Dress Up Your Front Porch

Adorn your door with a festive wreath, add some mums to your planters, and toss in a few pumpkins in varying shapes and colors for good measure. That’s all you need for instant autumnal curb appeal.

Make a Wreath with Foraged Finds

I used balls from my sweetgum tree, but you can use almost any foraged find to create a unique and rustic wreath that’s perfect for your home. If you want to dress it up, hand it with a colorful ribbon for a fun and vibrant touch!

Update Your Artwork with a Free Printable

Swap out your existing artwork in a fun and whimsical way with this free printable. This Hocus Pocus Broom Co. was a chalkboard design I created years ago. Last year I drew it again so that I could turn it into a free printable just for you!

Add Cozy Touches to Your Living Room

While I love changing things up for the season, there’s no need to swap out your entire decor. Some chunky knit blankets and throw pillows in seasonal colors are all you need.

Looking to style your fireplace mantel? Here’s an idea – inspired by a reproduction artwork of a fox, my foxy fall mantel decor is styled with seasonal colors, vintage finds, cozy candlelight, and a few well-placed pumpkins. I’m sharing the look with you as well as my thought process for putting it all together.

Drape Your Porch in Magical Lights

If you don’t have an outdoor space strung with lights, you’re totally missing out. It’s the quickest and easiest way to create an outdoor space that’s begging to be enjoyed. It’s especially magical and cozy during the fall season. (A few pumpkins help too!)

Pro Tip: You may not have thought about this, but for me, music is always a consideration when it comes to decorating. I like to engage all of the senses. I also HIGHLY recommend my Ultimate Folk Playlist which is perfect for the season and contains over 8 hours of acoustic-inspired tunes everyone will love.

DIY This Colorful Wheat Decor

This might be my favorite fall project and it’s SO EASY. This colorfully wrapped wheat is an easy way to add beautiful and colorful detail to a rather basic decor item. I did this colorful version years ago. I loved this project so much that I repeated it last year with a more muted version. Use whatever colors suit your decor. Get the tutorial HERE.

Craft Custom Napkins with Stamps

Feeling crafty? Dress up plain napkins with ink and stamps. I created some with leaves and pumpkins, but you can use any design you’d like. Match something to your decor or celebration.

Style a Festive Feast for Friends to Enjoy

Clean off your kitchen island and style a delicious and beautiful feast fit for the Pumpkin King (or Queen)! This was a spread I created a few years ago in my apartment and I still love it to this day. And don’t miss my Everything Bagel Pumpkin Cheeseball. It is still one of the most viewed recipes on my blog during the fall season.

Create a Festive Banner with Tags

Typically, word decor isn’t my cup of tea. However, I think it can be such a fun and graphic touch for events, parties, and entertaining. Using sticker alphabet letters you can spell out your favorite greeting of the season.

Turn Acorn Squash into Jumbo Acorns

Want one more DIY? Turn acorn squash into jumbo acorns. The project is so easy and the results are adorable. Plus, since squash tends to last a while, once you’re done with them as decor, slice them open and roast them in the oven for a delicious side dish!

Add Simple Seasonal Touches to Your Kitchen

Keep it simple but seasonal. A few little touches (including some homemade apple desserts and pumpkin sweets) will instantly have your kitchen feeling ready for the season. In my kitchen, I like to have a seasonal candle, fresh autumnal flowers, pumpkins, and a few decorative items to complete the look.

  2. Great post. Love the fox picture on your mantle. Have a beautiful red fox we see frequently around our property. So beautiful. Will be looking for some artwork of them at my local thrift stores.
    Have a wonderful fall.

  3. Hey, thanks for the inspiring decorating ideas. Is there a tutorial for the feather wreath? It is gorgeous, and different from the usual wreath ideas. Thanks.

  4. It may not be an entirely new post, but it’s a refreshing change from everything summer. It’s so hot, it’s hard to enjoy a lot of summer. Thank you for reminding us that Fall is not so far away!

  5. Michael, I’m in SoCal and this is making things feel a little cooler…kind of. For us the heat goes well into October when I have pumpkins baking outside my door.😖

  6. Wow!!! Love this post and it’s never too early for Fall ideas for me 👏. Also…I’ve already been pinning Christmas ideas 😳.
Maybe because I live in AZ and we’ve been baking in the heat it’s my way of trying to feel cooler 😅

  7. Well! This is cheering me up today. Yes, I am in fact wondering how soon I can start the fall decor. I love the seasons, but especially fall and winter. Dread summer, because the sun at altitude in Boulder is obviously trying to cook us. I will also admit to wondering how soon I can start putting up some of the Christmas trees. Being older it takes me longer to get things done and I love the lights. Ha Ha, maybe we shall leave the trees up and hide behind the eccentric old people thing. 😆

  8. Wow, what wonderful decor and fun ideas. You’re definitely talented. How nice to see your emails in my inbox. I would love to frame your Hocus Pocus Broom Co. print, alas, there is a problem getting to your printable Library and using the password. I forwarded your email to a friend and she couldn’t get the Library to open either. Anyway, it’s kind of you to share. Looking for the next article.

  9. Michael, thank you for another inspiring post. I have a lot to do now that I’ve seen so many fun projects!
I am absolutely a fan of all your holiday ideas and grateful that you take me along for the fun and deliciousness.
Christmas better watch out… your Fall game is getting stronger!
