Fall Decorating Ideas from Bayberry House

I’ve already kicked off autumn of 2021 by sharing a few fall decorating ideas which mostly were from previous years, so I thought I would invite you back into my home to share some of my current fall decorating.

This post is part of my Seasons of Home holiday decor series. This week my blogger friends and I are giving you some fabulous fall decorating ideas by sharing our Fall Home Tours. All of these talented ladies are linked at the end of this post. When you are done looking around here, be sure to click through to see all of their stunning homes and inspired ideas.

More Fall Decorating Ideas:

When it comes to seasonal decorating, I never feel like I’m done. (Yes, this is both a blessing and a curse.) Consequently, this little Fall Home Tour is more of a “this is how things look right now” rather than “this is a completed look at my home for the season.” Hopefully, that makes sense.

With that being said, this tour may feel a bit random (that’s because it is), but be sure to stop back because I’m certain I’ll have more new things to share as the season unfolds. I also highly recommend joining the Inspired by Charm Mailing List if you want to ensure you don’t miss a thing. Additionally, I have a fun email series on how to create a picture-perfect fall. You can join that series HERE if you’re interested.

With that, let’s get on with the tour!

Fall Decorating Ideas – Living Room:

Last week I gave you a look at how I styled my living room for the fall season. In case you missed that, I’ll give you a mini-tour here. (Check out this post for more details.)

Even though this room is somewhat white and bright, the addition of amber and rust tones, fall decor, cozy texture, and flickering flames helps this space feel warm and inviting. Brass elements, a lantern, and other seasonal accessories tie into the color scheme and add warmth to the room.

Since sharing the previous post, I did make a little addition that I wanted to show you. If you’re following me on Instagram (@inspiredbycharm), you might know I just completed a 30-day art challenge. Well, I took one of my oil paintings from the art challenge, a pumpkin, and added it to my bookshelf. I love how it looks.

That was a quick tour of this room, so if you want to see more, you can find the full post about this space HERE.

Fall Decorating Ideas –  Entryway:

I also recently shared my Witchy Halloween Entryway Decor HERE. This was so fun to style and decorate and I love the end results.

Again, since I did a full blog post about this, I’m just sharing a couple photos of  it here. You can see more HERE. That post also includes sources for a lot of items that I used.

Fall Decorating Ideas –  Family Room:

Over in my family room, I kept things pretty much the same with just a few slight changes.

First, I created a new “boo-tiful” fall mantel using my collection of handmade pottery tealight ghosts from Mollie Jenkins Pottery. (You can read all about this mantel HERE.) The ghost are currently not for sale. She typically sells these ghosts on a given day in August and they sell out in minutes. I’ve purchased a couple every year for the past three years to build up this collection.

Along with the ghosts I added a little DIY chalkboard, fall leaves, white pumpkins, and a few candlesticks.

I have an entire post dedicated to this mantel, if you want to see more. You’ll be able to see how it looks with all the candles and tealight ghosts lit up. It’s pretty fun! Visit that post HERE.

To the left of the fireplace, I have a wall space that I never know what to do with. I had a little shelf here but didn’t love it, so I decided to swap it out for a little peg rail that I styled with a bunch of throws and blankets. I’m really loving how this change looks! Plus, it’s totally functional as we head into the cold-weather season. Bring on all the cozy feels.

I may have gone a little too matchy-matchy with the hues, but I like it nonetheless. Either way, it’s nice to have some cozy blankets for chilly weather.

Another change I made to this room was swapping out the wall sconces on either side of my TV. I think the ones that I had here previously looked nice, but they only directed light downward which made them kind if of useless. This room doesn’t have any sort of overhead lighting so it can get pretty dark in here. These new lights offer so much more light and really brighten up the room. Plus, they look fabulous!

Fall Decorating Ideas –  Dining Room:

My dining room got a few new changes and cozy elements including a new chandelier and curtains. This is a space I’m still working on, so for now, you just get a little sneak peek. I am LOVING the changes. I’ll share more about this space soon.

Fall Decorating Ideas –  Kitchen:

I kept things pretty simple in the kitchen. A few ceramic pumpkins and beautiful blooms were all I needed. (If you have any questions about sources for this space, I have an entire post dedicated to that HERE.)

  1. Love your home!! Importantly, I must share a couple experiences I had with candles.
I had one burning and when it got low, almost out, the heat got so hot that it
set nearby dried plumes on fire! Thank goodness I had spaghetti for dinner and quickly grabbed the pot to fill with water, putting it out.
Another time, at my friends house, she had a candle on the kitchen counter a little bit under the upper cabinets. While watching TV, we smelled something burning and here the candle had burned/melted the cabinet. Luckily no flames, but new kitchen cabinet was needed.
So, while candles provide such a cozy atmosphere, I would really impress upon your readers to be very, very careful or to use battery operated candles. Happy fall!

  2. Micheal, I love your home. No love your Halloween ghosts, and they look perfect on your mantle. You always rock Micheal. Your home is nit only beautiful, it’s so warm and welcoming.

  3. Lovely, as always! Is the blue ottoman/coffee table new? I don’t remember that before. And what about the black and white stripe zig zaggy decoration? Not to rush things, but I can’t wait to see your Christmas decorations this year!
    Best to you, Nancee

  4. I’ve commented before but have to reaffirm you are my favorite blogger and designer! You are so talented Michael and have perfect taste! If you ever want to re-design my house, I’m IN! I love how you share your special touches and this year I was lucky enough to get some Molly Jenkins Ghosts! What a fast paced sale that was! I hope to expand the collection it in years to come1 Thank you for all you do! xoxoxoxo

  5. Beautiful ideas. I really like the ideas and decorating ideas you share. It’s a style I can relate to mixing old with new but in the end it’s beautiful and inviting. Not too stuffy and not too much. Thank you for sharing.

  6. Wow, Once again you knock it out of the park Michael! And your timing was perfect for me, just when I needed to see fall colors, I got your email. Even the color and the shapes of your pumpkins are to die for! I love, love the dining room curtain fabric and Iook forward to reading more about them!! It looks like a modern folk art adaptation of a William Morris design. Whatever it is it’s fabulous, just like the rest of your house. Love your kitchen more every time I see it. Thank you for your time and effort to give us such inspiration.

  7. Love the fall curtains in the dining area. As I look at them it seems like a perfect place to do different curtains each season…thats me though, more is more. 😏 I put up the fall Sept. 1 and Halloween Sept. 15…since I am older and it takes longer to do. I will start Christmas the lat week of October because 7+ trees etc. Looking so forward to your holiday decor, it is always fabulous.

  8. Oh my! I simply LOVE everything. Your ability to mix in just enough color and make everything so warm and cozy! Oh! that I could pick your talented decorating brain for the new little place I just purchased to retire to in Wyoming. Exactly what I’m looking for – Cozy, warm, inviting with some color thrown in! PERFECTION!!

  9. I’m revisiting this fall decorating post from 2021. Loved it then, love it now! Your living room is beautifully designed & decorated. I love your fireplace…the batten board & marble (?) surround are so classic and the use of amber bottles on the mantle is a wonderful contrast. I’m addicted to ottomans so I’m drawn to the beautiful blue round one in the living room, but it’s the leather one is the family room that is calling my name. And let’s not overlook those gorgeous draperies. Your attention to detail, right down to little brass accents, is what makes each room so successful!

  10. Once again, beautifully curated and put together. Love your unique style. Upscale cozy comes to mind. Question: how do you get your sofa pillows so fat and cushy looking? Thanks.
