Serving Suggestions
To elevate the experience of your gourmet ham and puff pastry sandwich, consider serving it with a side of fresh fruit or a simple green salad. The salty ham and flaky puff pastry pair well with the sweetness of fruit, while the freshness of a salad provides a refreshing contrast. My apple pecan salad, summer berry salad, or shaved brussels sprouts salad would compliment this sandwich perfectly.
Another option is to pair the sandwich with a cold glass of white wine or a refreshing iced tea. My white wine sangria and mint julep sweet tea also work well. The light and crisp flavors of these beverages complement the richness of the sandwich.
For a heartier meal, serve the sandwich alongside a warm bowl of soup or a side of roasted vegetables. The combination of flavors and textures will make for a satisfying and well-rounded lunch.
No matter how you choose to serve it, this gourmet ham and puff pastry sandwich is a delicious and impressive meal that everyone can enjoy!
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I make this recipe ahead of time?
Yes, you can! While this ham sandwich is best served warm, it’s delicious at room temperature too. Once baked, I would wrap individual sandwiches in parchment paper and keep them stored in the refrigerator until you’re ready to enjoy.
Can I use different types of cheese?
Absolutely! You can use any cheese that you like or have on hand. Cheddar, Swiss, and Gouda all work well in this recipe.
Can I substitute the ham for another type of meat?
Yes, you can! You can use sliced turkey, chicken, or even roast beef instead of ham. You can also use vegetarian options like sliced tomatoes or roasted peppers.
Can I freeze the ham and puff pastry sandwich?
No, it’s not recommended. The puff pastry doesn’t freeze well and can become soggy when thawed.
Can I add lettuce/greens to this sandwich?
I wouldn’t recommend it. The greens wouldn’t do well in the oven, and it’s not something you’d want to add after baking. Instead, I recommend serving it with a side salad. My apple pecan salad, summer berry salad, or shaved brussels sprouts salad are three fantastic options.
In just a few easy steps, you can elevate your lunch game with this ham and puff pastry sandwich. Now, it’s time to serve and enjoy this delicious meal.

Why add the breadcrumbs? I will omit if I make again
Spent a lot of $ on ingredients and breadcrumbs just fell out. 😠
Did you mix the breadcrumbs with the cheese? If so, the bread crumbs shouldn’t fall out as they will be held in place by the cheese. You can certainly make without the breadcrumbs if you wish.

I don’t understand what you mean in step 2, “one inch wide all the way around.” Thanks – it looks delicious! Barbara
I’m sorry! It should have been “wider” 1 inch wider all the way around. Thanks!

What do you mean when you say to roll out the thawed puff pastry “to 1 inch wide all the way around”?
