Ingredients

Before we get started, let’s dive into what makes these truffles so special. Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Crushed Peppermints: As the secret stars of the show, they add a festive, minty kick that makes these truffles a hit during the holidays or any time you crave something sweet with a twist.
  • Oreo Cookies: The beloved classic cookie brings a rich, chocolaty crunch to the mix, creating a perfect balance with the peppermint and making the truffles irresistibly indulgent.
  • Vanilla Extract: A dash of vanilla adds a subtle, aromatic depth to the truffles, enhancing the chocolate flavor and bringing a warm, comforting note.
  • Chocolate Melting Wafers: They melt smoothly and evenly, ensuring your truffles have that glossy, professional finish, making them not just delicious to eat but also a feast for the eyes. I love the ones from Ghirardelli. I used a mix of dark and milk chocolate.
  • Heavy Cream: This is what gives the truffles their luxuriously creamy texture which makes them melt in your mouth and leaving you wanting more.

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the best way to melt the chocolate wafers?

The best method is using a double boiler on the stovetop because it provides gentle, even heat. If you’re short on time, you can also melt the wafers in the microwave in short bursts, stirring frequently to avoid burning the chocolate.

How long do these truffles last?

Stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator, these truffles can last up to two weeks. They’re perfect for making ahead of time for a party or as gifts!

Can I freeze these truffles?

Absolutely! You can freeze them for up to a month. Just make sure to wrap them well and thaw them in the refrigerator before serving.

What other flavors can I experiment with?

The sky’s the limit! Try adding in different extracts like almond, or mix in nuts, dried fruits, or even a splash of your favorite liqueur. Get creative and make the recipe your own!

Can I decorate these truffles differently?

Definitely! While crushed peppermints are festive, you can also roll these truffles in cocoa powder, sprinkles, or even finely chopped nuts for a different look and taste. It’s a great way to customize these truffles for different occasions.

  1. I’ve made Oreo truffles before with cream cheese. Thought this sounded like a nice variation, but after refrigerating for 15 minutes the chocolate from the melting wafers hardened up and I had a terrible time forming the balls. Once finished they had a grainy texture that the cream cheese truffles don’t. I may try to combine the two recipes and see what happens.
