Whether you need a quick gift idea or just want to treat yourself, I’m showing you how to make this fabulous Peppermint Sugar Scrub.

I can clearly remember the first time I experienced a sugar scrub. It was in the fall of 2006 and it was at a soap/bath and body shop in Soho (New York City.) The sale associate asked me if I wanted to try it and I said, “Sure.”. There was a fancy sink in the middle of the store and she washed my hands using the scrub. I was shocked at how soft my skin was when she was done. I don’t think I’ll ever forget that.

The good news is you can skip the $30 container at the store and instead, make a sugar scrub at home for just a couple of bucks. I’m going to show you how.

When I thought about how I wanted to package this peppermint sugar scrub, my mind immediately went to the Ball® 4oz Quilted Jelly Jars. I thought they would be the perfect size for using and gifting, Plus, I just love the quilted pattern.

This year I’ve been working with Ball® Home Canning as one of their ambassadors and it has been such a treat. If you missed it I used their versatile products to:

Ball® jars have been a go-to for me even before I became an ambassador. Whether I’m canning or creating a unique and beautiful storage solution, their products have never let me down.

And don’t get me started on their new Wooden Lids. Best invention ever!

Okay, back to scrubbing!

What is a Sugar Scrub?

Simply put, a sugar scrub is a bath product used to exfoliate and moisturize the skin.

Things like essential oils are added to provide a lovely aroma and make the experience of using a sugar scrub even more enjoyable.

How to Use

I personally like to just use my hands to apply the sugar scrub (where I want it or all over my body). You could also use a washcloth.

After rubbing in the sugar scrub, just wash it away with water. You’ll immediately notice how much softer your skin is. It’s pretty amazing.

It’s that simple! Ready to make some? Me too. Let’s do it!

Ingredients

You only need a few things to put together this scrub.

  • granulated sugar – You can use any sugar you’d like. I prefer granulated as it provides a gentle exfoliation.
  • fractionated coconut oil – I like using fractionated coconut oil here as it always remains in a liquid state.
  • peppermint essential oil – Be sure you’re buying all-natural 100% oil. I recommend THIS one.
  • food coloring – Adding food coloring is totally optional. I used THIS gel food coloring. You could also use something natural or a mica powder.
  • Ball® 4oz Quilted Crystal Jelly Jars – THESE jars are the perfect size for gifting.
  • ribbon – This is optional, but you can find the ribbon I used HERE.

Now it’s time to walk you through the instructions. It couldn’t get easier, but I’ll still break it down step by step. There’s also a printable recipe card at the end of this post with a full ingredient list and recipe instructions.

  2. Screw on the lid and add a ribbon to decorate.

It’s really that simple!

Whether you want a little self-care or need a quick and personalized gift idea, this is always a winner and something everyone and anyone can use.

Variations

Here are a few sugar scrub variations to try:

  • Use a different essential oil. You can use whatever essential oil that you’d like as long as it’s safe for the skin.
  • Use salt instead of sugar. The process is the same and salt can provide some different benefits.
  • Include some add-ins. Try adding things to your scrubs like dried flowers.
