Christmas, Collected: My 2025 Christmas Tree

I’m popping in quickly today to share my 2025 Christmas tree. I had every intention of doing a full show and tell, but I think this time it’s going to be more show and a little less tell. I hope that’s okay. I’m running on fumes at the moment, but I still wanted to get this post up before the big day.

Once the season settles and I have a bit more energy, maybe I can come back and add a little more detail to this post. But then again, does a tree design need a full explanation to be enjoyed? With that said, if you have any questions, feel free to leave them below, and I’ll do my best to answer them when I circle back.

Let’s get into it, and I’ll share a few thoughts along the way.

I’m calling it my Christmas, Collected tree. Why? Because it feels like a culmination of all the trees I’ve decorated over the years, and that feels really nice. I think I’ve been working toward this look without fully realizing it, and it finally feels like I’ve landed. What I love most is that it holds little pieces of all 26+ trees I’ve designed and decorated through the years.

I only decorated one tree this year, and I have a feeling that may be how things go for the foreseeable future. As much as I loved designing new trees each season (and maybe I’ll return to that someday), I think I’m ready to pause and enjoy something familiar, something that feels like me, year after year.

The tree itself is new. It’s from Lieben Riebe; I’ve admired his trees for years. I couldn’t have been more excited when he announced he was selling a line of similarly shaped trees. I’m not sure if this exact one is still available, but I’m fairly certain there will be more in the future.

I sort of threw everything at this tree, and I know to some it might look that way. But honestly, this was the hardest tree I’ve ever decorated. It reminds me of how people often assume painting a loose or abstract image is easier, when in reality it can be the most challenging. The shape of this tree added to that challenge more than I expected, so that’s just something to keep in mind if you’re ever drawn to purchasing a tree like this.

As in years past, I have added a handmade element. My pipe cleaner loop garland (for which I shared the full tutorial last week) made its way onto the branches. It’s simple, easy to make, and I love the bit of sparkle and nostalgia it brings to the whole thing.

And that’s where I’ll leave things for now. While this tree was an adventure to bring to life, and there were moments I wasn’t sure it was going to work at all, the more time I spend with it, the more I love it. Every time I look at it, I notice small echoes of Christmases past. Somehow, this tree meets me exactly where I am right now, and that feels really good.

Merry Christmas, my friend!

  1. What an absolutely lovely tree! Mine is always an accumulation of ornaments collected through the years from kids, grandkids and out travels. Wishing you a restful and Merry Christmas.

  2. Love this tree! So full of memories. Every year that’s our tree. We’ve been married almost 50 years and the tree speaks to our time together, raising children and now having grandchildren. No fancy theme or color scheme. Just Christmas memories taking a spot on each branch. It’s always a sentimental day and often tears are shed for those no longer with us, when we decorate her. I love your homemade touches the most! Love your blog. May your days be merry and bright, Michael.

  3. What an absolutely beautiful nostalgic tree. I anxiously await your Christmas tree post each year; yours is always my my favorite. Blessings to you and yours in 2026!

  4. Your decorations and tree are especially beautiful at night, as well as your staircase (and beautiful kitty cat silhouette). Thanks for the annual inspiration — I copied the idea of your ombre tree a few years back!

  5. Michael, this is my favorite tree of all the beautiful ones you have created. I keep looking at it. It radiates Joy!
Appreciate all your postings during the year.
    Have a peaceful, blessed Christmas.

  6. Merry Christmas, Michael! This tree and its decorations sure take me back. As I look closely, I see so many of my own memories in this tree. I wish I still had my childhood ornaments. I remember sitting with my mom for what seemed like months, making those handmade ornaments with sequins, ribbons and little jewels pushed in with straight pins. We would admire them and then try to outdo each other on the next ones we made. We filled an entire tree with those ornaments! They are wonderful memories and I see them now so vividly in your tree!

I always enjoy your posts and love your recipes!

Have a very Joyous New Year!

    Kim
