Ingredients

It’s time to gather all the ingredients needed to assemble this salad. I’ve broken them down into the dressing and the main salad.

Dressing:

  • Avocado Oil – This oil is mild and smooth, giving the dressing a light texture that lets the other flavors shine without overpowering them.
  • Balsamic Vinegar – Adds a touch of sweetness and depth to the dressing, complementing the maple syrup with a rich, tangy finish.
  • Pure Maple Syrup – A natural sweetener that brings a warm, slightly caramelized sweetness, perfect for balancing the savory flavors.
  • Dijon Mustard – Adds a hint of sharpness and a bit of creamy texture to the dressing, helping to bring all the flavors together.
  • Honey – A drizzle of honey enhances the sweetness of the maple and rounds out the dressing with a touch of smoothness.
  • Smoked Paprika – Just a pinch adds a subtle smoky note, giving the dressing a deeper, richer flavor that pairs well with the balsamic and maple.
  • Kosher Salt – Balances the sweetness in the dressing and brings out the flavors in the salad, making each ingredient pop.
  • Black Pepper – Adds a gentle warmth and a hint of spice to the dressing, rounding out the overall flavor.

Salad Base:

  • Sliced Almonds – Lightly toasted, these add a delightful crunch and a mild, nutty flavor that complements the creamy goat cheese.
  • Baby Spinach – The base of the salad, baby spinach is tender yet sturdy enough to hold the warm dressing while adding a fresh, earthy flavor.
  • Honeycrisp Apple – The sweet, juicy apple slices add a refreshing crunch and a hint of tartness to balance the warm flavors in the salad.
  • Fresh Blueberries – Tiny bursts of sweetness that add a fruity brightness to the mix, creating a perfect contrast to the dressing.
  • Honey Goat Cheese – Creamy, tangy, and lightly sweetened, this cheese melts slightly into the salad, adding a soft texture and rich flavor that ties everything together. I love the honey goat cheese, but if you can’t find it regular is great. You can also use feta or even blue cheese.

How To Make

Okay, let’s put it all together to make this Spinach Salad with Warm Maple Dressing. I’ll still take you through the steps below. I’ve also provided a full ingredient list and detailed instructions in the printable recipe card below.

  1. In a glass jar with a lid, combine the oil, vinegar, maple syrup, mustard, honey, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Secure the lid tightly and shake the jar vigorously until all ingredients are well-blended. Set the dressing aside.
  2. Warm a small skillet over medium-high heat. Add the almonds and cook, stirring frequently, until they become golden brown and fragrant (about one to two minutes). Remove from the heat, transfer the almonds to a plate, and let them cool.
  3. In a large bowl, combine the spinach, apple slices, blueberries, honey goat cheese, and toasted almonds.
  4. Pour the prepared dressing into the skillet and heat over medium just until it starts to simmer (about one minute). Drizzle about six tablespoons of the warm dressing over the salad and toss gently to coat. Season with salt and pepper to taste. If desired, serve with additional warm dressing on the side.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use other greens besides spinach?

Definitely! While spinach offers a nice balance of flavor and texture, other greens like arugula, baby kale, or mixed spring greens also work well. Each brings a slightly different flavor profile, allowing you to change the salad while keeping it fresh and interesting.

Can I make the dressing in advance?

Yes! The dressing can be made up to five days in advance. Store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator and before serving, reheat it on the stovetop or microwave until warm. This makes it easy to prep ahead, especially if you’re planning to serve the salad for a gathering.

Can I serve this salad cold instead of with a warm dressing?

Yes! While the warm dressing adds a cozy touch, this salad tastes great when served cold. You can prepare the dressing without heating it or pour it cold over the salad. It will still be refreshing and delicious, perfect for a lighter, summery option.
