Ingredients

It’s time to gather all the ingredients needed to make this Chocolate Peanut Pretzel Toffee Bark. Here’s everything you’ll need:

  • Saltine Crackers: The perfect crispy base that adds a hint of salt and a light crunch to balance the rich toffee and chocolate layers.
  • Unsalted Butter: Used to create the buttery toffee layer that binds everything together with a deliciously rich flavor.
  • Light Brown Sugar: Adds a deep, caramel-like sweetness to the toffee layer, giving the bark its signature chew and flavor.
  • Kosher Salt: Enhances the sweetness of the chocolate and toffee while adding a touch of savory balance.
  • Pure Vanilla Extract: Brings a subtle warmth and depth to the toffee, complementing the other flavors beautifully.
  • Semisweet Chocolate Chips: A classic chocolate choice that melts smoothly over the toffee, providing a rich and slightly bitter contrast.
  • Milk Chocolate Chips: Adds a creamy sweetness that pairs wonderfully with the semisweet chocolate for a balanced chocolate flavor.
  • Cocktail Peanuts: Bring a bit of crunch and a salty-savory element that balances the sweetness of the chocolate and toffee.
  • Pretzel Sticks: Broken into pieces for extra texture and a hint of saltiness that complements the sweet, buttery layers.
  • Red and Green M&M’s: Festive pops of color and an extra layer of chocolatey goodness, make this treat perfect for the holidays.

  1. Begin by preheating your oven to 350 degrees F. Line a 15x10x1-inch baking sheet with aluminum foil, ensuring it covers the edges. Lightly grease the foil with nonstick spray or butter.
  2. Arrange the saltine crackers in a single layer on the prepared pan. Set aside.
  3. In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Stir in the brown sugar and kosher salt, then bring the mixture to a boil. Continue cooking, stirring constantly, until the sugar has completely dissolved, about 2-3 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use a different type of cracker as the base?

Absolutely! While saltine crackers work great for this recipe because of their light texture and touch of salt, other square crackers like graham crackers can be used for a different flavor.

How do I store the toffee bark, and how long does it last?

Store the toffee bark in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week. If you prefer it chilled, it can be kept in the refrigerator for up to two weeks. For even longer storage, freeze it in a sealed container for up to three months.

What should I do if the chocolate doesn’t spread easily?

If the chocolate chips aren’t spreading well after sitting on the hot toffee, pop the pan back into the oven for about one to two minutes. This will help the chocolate soften further, making it easier to spread evenly over the toffee layer.

What’s the best way to break the toffee bark into pieces?

Once the bark is completely set, you can use your hands to snap it into irregular pieces for a rustic look. If you prefer more uniform pieces, you can use a sharp knife to cut it into squares or triangles.
