I don’t know about your family, but having a bowl of nuts out during the holidays has always been a staple in mine. Nuts are a quick and easy snack that people can enjoy while gathering to celebrate the season. Of course, a bowl of classic mixed nuts is great, but why not take it up a notch with a little seasoning and spice?

That’s where these Really Good Seasoned Pistachios come in. They’re incredibly simple to make and downright addictive. (Trust me, I can’t stop snacking on them!) I actually got this recipe from my sister-in-law, Missy. You might remember her Really Good Seasoned Pretzels—it’s almost the same recipe, just with a bit less oil.

These pistachios come together in minutes (hands-on time) and are ready to go whenever you need them. I made them for Christmas, but they’re perfect any time of year. They’d make a fantastic game-day treat, too!

You’re going to love these. The combination of spices is just so good, and the best part is that you can easily adjust it to suit your taste. Want a little more heat? Go for it. Prefer something milder? No problem. And while I’m using pistachios (my personal favorite), you can swap in any nut you love. Let’s get into the recipe details.

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

  • These seasoned pistachios are a step up from ordinary. While a bowl of nuts is a timeless snack, the added flavors and spices in this recipe make it truly special. They’re the perfect blend of salty, tangy, and spicy, but you’re in control. You can easily tweak the seasonings to match your preference.
  • They’re incredibly easy to make. With just a handful of ingredients and a few minutes of prep time, you’ll have a snack that looks and tastes like you spent way more time on it. A quick bake in the oven is all it takes to turn everyday pistachios into something memorable.
  • Perfect for every occasion. I first made these for Christmas, but they work year-round. Put them out for holiday gatherings, game day parties, or casual get-togethers. They also make a great snack to enjoy while watching a movie or as a quick nibble during the day.

Ingredients

It’s time to gather all the ingredients you’ll need to make these Spicy Ranch Pistachios.

  • Pistachios (in the shell) – Pistachios are the star of this recipe, offering their signature crunch and slightly sweet, nutty flavor. Keeping them in the shell makes for a hands-on, satisfying snack.
  • Vegetable oil / olive oil – Either option works perfectly here, so use what you prefer. Vegetable oil provides a neutral flavor, while olive oil adds a light, savory richness.
  • Dry ranch seasoning – This seasoning mix brings a burst of tangy, herby flavor that pairs beautifully with the pistachios. It’s the key ingredient that makes these nuts so irresistible.
  • Cayenne pepper – Cayenne pepper adds the perfect amount of heat. You can easily adjust it to suit your spice preference, making the pistachios as mild or fiery as you like.
  • Dried dill weed – The subtle, earthy flavor of dill ties everything together and adds a pop of fresh, herby goodness that complements the ranch seasoning perfectly.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make these pistachios ahead of time?

Yes! These seasoned pistachios are perfect for making ahead. Once cooled, store them in an airtight container or resealable bags for up to a week. This makes them a great option for holiday prep or party planning.

What’s the best way to store the seasoned pistachios?

Once the pistachios have completely cooled, transfer them to an airtight container or resealable bags. Store them at room temperature in a cool, dry place. They’ll stay fresh and flavorful for up to a week, but chances are they’ll disappear much sooner!

Can I use a different type of nut for this recipe?

Absolutely! While pistachios are my go-to for this recipe, you can easily swap them out for other nuts such as cashews, almonds, or pecans. Just keep an eye on the baking time, as smaller or larger nuts may need a slight adjustment.

How spicy are these pistachios?

With 2-3 teaspoons of cayenne pepper, the heat level is moderate. It’s enough for a little kick but not overwhelming. If you’re sensitive to spice, start with less and add more to taste. For extra-heat lovers, you can increase the cayenne to a tablespoon.
