This past holiday season I shared the most wonderful space decorated for Christmas. It was an adorable Gardenhouse built by hand with thoughtfully sourced reclaimed materials. This post was by far the most popular I’ve shared, with over 150 comments. Many comments requested that I visit the Gardenhouse in the summer for another tour. So, I did just that.
A couple of weeks ago, I had the opportunity to visit again in a new season and let me tell you, the space was just as impressive. I spent a couple of hours there and took over 400 photos (I could have easily spent more time and taken even more).

If you haven’t seen this space decorated for Christmas, I highly recommend checking out that post. In that post, you’ll also get more insight into how I came to visit and photograph this magical location.
For a quick recap: Janice and her husband Allie built this Gardenhouse themselves from the ground up using an array of salvaged and repurposed materials they had curated over the years. The materials, design, and overall build have many beautiful and thoughtful details. Each board, beam, and window has a story of the life it lived before it was lovingly restored and used again.

As I did previously, I’m mostly going to let the photos tell the story of this remarkable space. However, I will chime in here and there to provide some commentary and personal favorites. Let’s get on with the tour!

Green is my favorite color, so I’m naturally attracted to the beautiful greenery in this space. This little corner is one of my favorites in the current decor (likewise when it was decorated for Christmas).

Another favorite area is this cozy nook. A simple shelf with hooks made from a collection of vintage boards creates a beautiful space for decorating. As the sunlight beamed through the vintage electrical shop door, this area immediately grabbed my attention.

Being a fan of vintage linens and quilts, I love how these items were used throughout the space to add texture, design, and another layer of story.

The display of small vintage glassware in front of the window was also an eye-catcher. It was almost like a 3-D version of a stained glass window, capturing the light and sparkling as I moved around the Gardenhouse.

I must admit I’m jealous of Janice’s collection of green pottery. It’s a common element throughout the space. You’ll spot small pitchers, planters, plates, and more! It’s cohesive elements like these, that help to bring the space together as one.

And how clever is this little bird nest nestled into a coiled-up ribbon placed on an iron candle stand? So clever!

Since my last visit, Janice added a new stained glass window. The stained glass tiles were built by her sister and then installed into a vintage window frame. The colors and design are spectacular.

The table was set with a quilt handmade by her sister used as a tablecloth. The place settings were beautifully layered with vintage dinnerware. A large floral display, made from real and faux flowers, sat in the middle of the table. The look is not only practical but also beautiful.

The outside of the building has received some attention as well with lush plantings and beautifully placed vintage adornments.

And that concludes the tour of Janice’s Gardenhouse during the summer! This space is a testament to creativity and sustainability built with salvaged materials and filled with vintage charm. Every corner of this space continues to impress and inspire me. I hope you enjoyed the Gardenhouse again just as much as I did.

I want to thank Janice again for allowing me to visit, photograph the space, and share it all with you. It takes days to decorate a space like this and countless hours to plan and curate all of the beautiful details. Her work is truly appreciated.
If you ever find yourself near St. Marys, PA, please visit Janice at her gift shop: The Olde Stone Gate. It’s as beautifully considered, curated, and decorated as the Gardenhouse. While the Gardenhouse isn’t open to the public, you can peek at its exterior since it is next to her lovely shop. I’ll link The Olde Stone Gate Facebook page so you can check her store hours and give her a follow.
