Olive Wreath Holiday Appetizer:

I will admit it’s too early, but my brain has already switched to Christmas mode. It’s mainly because of my job. Like my fellow bloggers, I need to work a month or two in advance to get seasonal ideas posted in time for you to use them. If the holidays are not on your radar yet, I get it. Feel free to skip this post or save it for later.

Now that I’ve said that, today I want to share this creative olive wreath holiday appetizer with you. (I promised I’d get the recipe to you in my recent post about the 2019 BHG Christmas Ideas Magazine.) As I mentioned above, this appetizer is super simple. Plus, it will add a festive touch to your Christmas table or holiday get-together.

And speaking of holiday appetizer ideas, I have a huge collection of favorite Christmas Appetizer Recipes from IBC. Every time I scroll through the list, I start dreaming of making and eating these delicious yuletide treats. You can find all of them here.

What do you need to make an Olive Wreath Appetizer:

  • Fresh rosemary
  • Mixed olives
  • Cherry tomatoes
  • Mini mozzarella balls
  • Olive oil, flake sea salt, and freshly cracked pepper

These are the basic ingredients I used to assemble my olive wreath holiday appetizer. However, you could add other goodies, like teardrop peppers, marinated almonds, cured meats, and so on. Use whatever you and your family or guests will love.

How to Make an Olive Wreath Holiday Appetizer:

Start with a large round plate. Any kind of plate or even a cutting board will work, but I found that a round plate helps when shaping a round wreath.

Once you’ve selected the plate, spread a layer of fresh rosemary sprigs around the perimeter to create a wreath shape. I like to keep things organic and have a few pieces sticking out so it’s not a perfectly manicured wreath.

With the rosemary in place, start filling in with olives, tomatoes, and mozzarella. I prefer to mix up the ingredients as I’m putting them in place to keep things looking random and natural.

Finally, if desired, finish off the wreath with a drizzle of olive oil and a sprinkle of sea salt flakes and freshly ground pepper.

And with that, your Olive Wreath Holiday Appetizer is complete! As you can see, it’s a low-fuss dish with lots of impact. I recommend pairing it with a big cheese board for the ultimate holiday nosh!

  2. Love it. I like get to holiday ideas ahead of time because I plan ahead. I am definitely taking this to a Christmas party and also having it at one of my Christmas parties!! Thanks

  3. I LOVE this idea! And it presents beautifully as well. Where do you find fresh rosemary? I saw it at the local farm market back in the spring/early summer and have not seen it since, even in the Giant Eagle. Would love to find a source of fresh rosemary. A bouquet of fresh rosemary in a vase it lovely too, so fragrant and seasonal.

    1. I have no trouble finding fresh herbs throughout the year at the grocery store or even Walmart. They are sold near the lettuce and fresh vegetables. Usually in small clear plastic packages. (They aren’t live plants, but they are cut fresh and can last a week or so in the refrigerator.) Hope that helps!
