Entryway Cabinetry Reveal
This Post May Contain Affiliate Links. Please Read Our Disclosure PolicyToday I’m excited to share the new custom cabinetry and bench in my entryway. What once was a basic, stud-and-drywall closet is now a custom cabinet with lots of intentional storage, a bench seat, and a decorative peg-rail shelf.
Friends, it’s a special day at my place. This entryway cabinetry reveal has been a year in the making. You might remember that last year during the kitchen renovation we ripped out my existing entryway closet. Despite not having money to replace the closet, I wanted to put in new flooring in the entire entry. Flash forward about a year and six months: I now have a whole new entryway!
Let me show you around.
Entryway Cabinetry and Bench Reveal:
Isn’t the cabinetry beautiful? I couldn’t be more pleased with how it turned out. The color, style, and details are exactly what I wanted.
As I mentioned when I shared the design for this cabinetry, I worked with a local cabinet maker, Drury Cabinetry. (I highly recommend them if you’re local to Pittsburgh.) They did a fabulous job!. The unit was designed and built at their workshop and then installed in my home.
Entryway Cabinetry and Bench Details:
The color is Pigeon by Farrow & Ball. It’s one of those chameleon colors in that it changes depending on the light. Sometimes it’s green; other times it’s gray. It’s truly a beautiful color.
I chose many of the details like the peg rail, shelf brackets, and beadboard to coordinate with the details of the cabinets in my kitchen and butler’s pantry. The style of the cabinet doors is also similar, but to keep things interesting, it’s not identical.
I opted for hardware in unlacquered brass. The pulls on the drawers below the bench are the same pulls I have in my kitchen, just a different finish. You can find those here. I used another pull in a different style but the same finish for the doors. You will find those here. And I also swapped out the light switch plate for a brass one. You can find that here.
Inside the closet, there is plenty of functional storage. When the original closet was removed, I asked my electrician to add an outlet in this space, knowing that I’d eventually install cabinetry.
I wanted an outlet here because this is where I store a cordless vacuum. The outlet allows the vacuum to charge while it’s in the cabinet. There is also a bar for hanging coats and additional shelves for holding other things.
As I mentioned when I shared the design plan for this cabinetry, I was hoping that the cabinetry color (which I’m obsessed with) and the navy blue walls would play nicely together. Well, now that the cabinets are in, I think the navy needs to go. Although I don’t think the combination is downright terrible (it looks better in the photos then in real life), I’m just not crazy about it, and I think I can do better.
After lots of researching and testing paint, I finally landed on Shaded White from Farrow & Ball. This is a surprising choice for me because I’m not a big fan of beige. However, as stated on the Farrow & Ball website, this color is “a light grey beige … not too warm nor too cool.” I think that’s a beige I can get on board with.
I also think the Shaded White looks lovely with the cabinetry color. I tested in on a section of the wall, and even though I didn’t cut in all the edges (and it will need a second coat), here’s how it’s going to look.
I think it’s an improvement. I may eventually wallpaper the top section of the wall, but I’m just not ready to dive into that right now. In the meantime, this feels like good middle ground.
As much as I loved the navy color, I did find it a bit dark and somewhat limiting. During the fall and at Christmas, the navy was challenging for my seasonal decorating. While I made it work (you can see here), I think a more neutral palette will help things flow together more seamlessly. But we shall see, Goodness knows, I may be changing it in another couple of months.
Right now I’m going to get this entryway painted and then decorated for fall! I’m currently on the hunt for a cushion for the bench. I’m also going to add a few decorations to the shelf and peg rail. I may even make some other decorative changes to the rest of the space.
I’ll be sure to share all of that with you as it comes together.

And in case you’re wondering (because everyone loves a good before and after), here is how the entryway looked when I first moved in:
Here is how it looked without the new custom cabinetry:
And here’s how it looks now:

Michael it’s going to be perfect. Love your final decisions and can’t wait for style follow ups from you.
Your entryway looks beautiful
Great choice
I think that getting rid of the navy was a good move since the cabinets aren’t a true grey. I like what you did here! Looks so clean and functional!
Thank you so much, Vicki!

Hi Michael,
Your cabinetry is just beautiful and it was definitely worth the wait. The color you have chosen is awesome. i ams so happy for you because you always put your heart and soul into all of your projects.
Michael! Your taste is impeccable and your color choices spot on!! Shhhh, don’t tell anyone, but you are my fav blogger!!!
The new cabinetry is beautiful but clearly doesn’t benefit from the navy walls. However changing the wall color to beige to complement the light cabinets looks a bit utilitarian, in my humble opinion.Like a mudroom that would belong near the back door, not the main entrance. That navy is so rich and dramatic; like opening the front door and stepping into a little jewel box. Have you considered painting the cabinets navy? They would look smashing with the brass hardware. Or possibly painting them to match the wainscoting? Please forgive my criticism but that navy had me at hello! It’s just too good to give up. Whatever you do, Michael, I’m sure it’ll look great.
Amy, I always appreciate the feedback. Thank you! I agreed the the beige is a bit “safe” and perhaps boring. However, I am a seasonal decorator. Once I style things out for the season, I think the space will really sing. To be honest, I feel navy is so over used these days, especially on cabinetry. I welcome the break from it. My ultimate goal is to find a really beautiful wallpaper for the top half of the wall and to add a bit more molding / trim detail to the wainscoting. I’m just taking it one step at a time. I think the beige will be a lovely transition color as I work towards my ultimate goal.

The new cabinets are gorgeous, Michael – and I like the new wall color also.
But, wait – my heart just skipped a beat – did you say CHRISTMAS???!!! I LOVE to see what you do for fall and winter decorating every year. Can’t wait again this year. Thanks for sharing your talent with us all year!
Oh, I Loved the navy. As I read it I was thinking, No, please don’t change it. Then when I saw 👀 the new color it gave me a whole new vibe. Navy produced one feeling and the new color instantly transformed my mood into a calm and beautiful fall day vibe. You can work magic with color. Bravo! Oh, lest I forget, the cabinetry is stunning. I have a very long built in bench in my dining room and I use very long table cloths from Ollie’s that I fold on and change with my tablescapes. Cheap and beautiful! Thanks for sharing. 😊
Looks amazing! I did love the navy but the new color is just as nice. So excited to see you work your styling magic!
Absolutely stunning! I’ve taken screenshots because this is amazing and I could see using it in a future home. Your color choice for the wall color change is perfect. It actually highlights the kitchen in the next room so well! It’s like it draws your eye to the kitchen and before your eye just landed on the Navy wall. I love it!! Such beautiful choices and so well done. I am so looking forward to seeing the next set of built-ins. You have beautiful taste!
looks beautiful!! Can’t wait to see how you decorate it for Christmas!!
It’s going to be awesome! Although I love the navy color, I too, think it’s not right with the new cabinet. Your new choice is beautiful! It flows with the rest of the house. Everything looks fabulous
100% agree. Thanks for your input, Cindi!

Your style is always absolute perfection! When it seems an area is already perfected, you go and take it up to a whole other level.
Thank you, Tara! I can’t wait to see this space once it’s all pulled together.

I love this , Michael and the navy paint. Its all really very beautiful and intentional. Well done as always.
I love your new cabinetry! I agree that the navy blue doesn’t work the best. The “beige” looks like a better option. Have fun painting and styling!
Thank you so much! And I totally agree. I think the new color will be a winner!

I love everything about it – particularly that brass hardware! And I think it’s great you opted to have the finishes and design similar to your kitchen cabinetry but not identical; the two spaces look cohesive but have their own character.
Agreed! There’s something about unlacquered brass that just gets me every time!

I think it’s gorgeous. I love the cabinet color! And I think the new wall color will be perfect. I was trying to make the blue work in my head before I read you were painting it 🙂 Although the navy is a great color, I think you’re right that it doesn’t go well with the cabinet color. Can’t wait to see it decorated for fall! 🍁
The cabinetry is beautiful and the new wall color will compliment it very nicely. I like the navy, but agree it needs to be changed with the new cabinet.
I think so too! I’m excited to get it painted. Thank you so much!

Love it Michael! Your color choices are sensational. Looking forward to seeing you style it up!
You are so sweet! Thank you!

Your entryway is perfect. My philosophy about decorating these days is if it doesn’t serve duel purpose as storage or a place to hang things I dont need it. I like the color and it is a good neutral that can be decor friendly in any season.
Love your new entryway, Michael! Can’t wait to see how you style it.
Thanks, Mary! It’s going to be fun!

I love that you included a charging station in the closet. Genius! Not a fan of the gray paint on the new cabinetry for some reason. Maybe because of its chameleon green/gray thing? I’m sure with your new wall color it will all come together beautifully. Looking forward to the holiday decorations!
Thanks for you input, Deb. I think with the new wall color and some styling it will all make more sense. Have a good one!
