This tasty shot recipe lives up to its name. It tastes just like an oatmeal cookie. I’m always amazed at how you can combine a few liquors to create a drink that tastes just like a given food item. It’s pretty remarkable.

We’ve covered several shot recipes here on Inspired by Charm and this one might be my new favorite. The mini beer, cinnamon toast crunch, and birthday cake shots follow closely behind.

The older I get the less I drink. However, I do imbibe on special occasions or when out for a nice dinner. I think shot recipes like this oatmeal cookie shot are great as an after-dinner treat or a fun way to celebrate something special.

Why You’ll Enjoy This Recipe

  • Uniquely Dessert-Inspired: This isn’t just any shot; it’s a dessert in a glass. The rich flavors of butterscotch, Irish cream, and a hint of cinnamon whiskey blend to mimic that freshly baked oatmeal cookie we all love. For the record, my mom had an oatmeal cookie shot and she loved it too.
  • It’s unique. The garnish of caramel sauce and oatmeal cookie crumbs adds a gourmet touch that’s effortless to achieve. It makes this shot recipe stand out and feel special.
  • It’s made with bar staples. When I went to make this recipe, I thought I would need to run to the liquor store, but it turned out I had everything I needed in my bar cart. Love that.
  • After-Dinner Delight: When you want to wind down the evening with something sweet, this shot doubles as a liquid dessert. It’s a cozy way to finish off a meal without having to bake a thing.

Ingredients

  • butterscotch schnapps – I tend to reach for the DeKuyper brand, but your favorite will work too.
  • Irish cream liqueur – Baileys is what I keep on hand. I currently have the salted caramel flavor and it worked really well in this recipe.
  • cinnamon whiskey – Fireball is a great option here. It’s affordable and tasty!
  • caramel sauce and oatmeal cookie crumbs to garnish – I prefer a thicker caramel sauce here. Thinner caramel sauces will tend to run down your glass. Any store-bought oatmeal cookie will work to make crumbs, but feel free to make your own oatmeal cookies if you’re feeling extra ambitious.

Recipe Tips

Even though it’s a simple recipe, I have a few tips to share with you.

  • Be sure to shake it with ice. While some shot recipes are served at room temperature, I recommend most be served chilled. It makes for a more enjoyable drink, especially in this case.
  • Don’t skip the garnish. I love an intentional and unique cocktail garnish. It elevates the experience for me. This garnish definitely takes this from a drink to a dessert.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make these shots ahead of time?

Absolutely! Mix up a big batch before your guests arrive, and when it’s time to party, all you have to do is pour and garnish. Just give it a quick stir before serving to make sure all those yummy flavors are perfectly blended.

Easy peasy! Just rim the edge of the glass with a little bit of caramel sauce, and then dip it into crushed oatmeal cookie crumbs. The sauce acts like a tasty glue, and you get that perfect cookie-crumb finish.

Can these shots be served as a dessert?

Yes, they’re a perfect dessert! Think of them like the grand finale to a great meal. They’re sweet, satisfying, and they give you that dessert vibe without having to bake a single thing.

My shots are too strong, what can I do?

If the shots come out stronger than you’d like, try adding a splash of milk or cream to mellow the flavors. It’ll smooth out the edges and add a creamy richness that complements the overall taste.

What’s the best way to serve these shots at a party?

Think of serving these shots as part of a ‘dessert bar’ setup. Line up the glasses, have your garnishes ready, and let your guests watch the magic happen as you prepare each shot. It’s both interactive and indulgent!
