Birthday Cake Cheese Ball:

I don’t know if it’s the same for you, but birthday cake ranks near the top of my favorite desserts. I’m sure it sounds crazy to some folks. However, I’m even a fan of the classic grocery store birthday cake. Serve it up with a scoop of ice cream, and I’m a happy human. Anyone else? (BTW, for me, it needs to be vanilla cake, vanilla icing, and vanilla ice cream.)

I suppose that’s why a birthday cake-inspired cheese ball seems like an excellent idea. Covered with sprinkles, it’s not only yummy but fun and colorful, too!

How to Make a Birthday Cake Cheese Ball:

The process is simple. Start by whipping together cream cheese and butter.

Next, beat in funfetti cake mix, extra sprinkles, confectioners’ sugar, vanilla extract, and almond extract. There’s just a touch of almond extract in this recipe, but I think it adds a depth of flavor. I personally love desserts with almond extract.

Once everything is incorporated, transfer the mixture to a sheet of plastic wrap. As you wrap it, shape it into a ball. Then, place the cheeseball in the refrigerator so it can firm up.

Before serving, roll the ball in a bowl filled with sprinkles. It’s at this point that the magic happens! The ball instantly transforms into this colorful sprinkle-coated beauty. What’s not to love!?

After that, your Birthday Cake Cheese Ball is ready to be served. I chose vanilla wafers and shortbread for serving, but feel free to use whatever cookies you like best.

If you're looking for a fun, unique, and delicious way to celebrate, this Birthday Cake Cheese Ball is the perfect sweet treat. Colorful and full of birthday cake flavor, this dessert cheese ball is a crowd pleaser!
Ingredients
  • 16 ounces cream cheese softened
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 box (15.25 ounces) funfetti cake mix*
  • 1 1/4 cups confectioners' sugar
  • 1 cup rainbow sprinkles divided
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2-4 drops almond extract
  • Vanilla wafers and shortbread cookies for serving
Instructions
  1. In a large bowl, beat together the cream cheese and butter until smooth.
  2. Add the cake mix, confectioners' sugar, vanilla extract, almond extract, and 1/4 cup of extra sprinkles.
Recipe Notes

*The raw flower in cake mix may contain harmful bacteria. Before using the cake mix, microwave the mix until it reaches at least 160 degrees. This will take about one minute and 15 seconds in a standard microwave. I recommend stirring the mixture every 15 seconds while microwaving for best results.

Very fun idea. However, eating raw cake mix (even if you omit eggs) is not recommended by the FDA since the flour in the cake mix can harbor harmful bacteria. Maybe exposing the cake mix to high temperatures to kill potential pathogens then using it to make cake balls will help?

I’ve added a note to the recipe for anyone concerned with eating raw flour. The cake mix can be microwaved or baked before using in this recipe to prevent any issues.

This is so sweet to hear. I’m so nervous that no one would buy it, so I appreciate knowing at least one person would. Thank you!!

I am going to print this out and put it in my recipe notebook, my granddaughter cane make this dessert easily, and it can be adapted to Halloween and Christmas with the corresponding sprinkles!
