A while ago my mom told me about a treat that she and her friend enjoy. They spread goat cheese on toast and top it with fresh jam. Being a fan of goat cheese and jam, this sounded so good to me.

Flash forward to a week ago when I spotted a similar idea while scrolling on Instagram: Ricotta Toast with Three Jams. In my subsequent research, I discovered that ricotta toast is actually “a thing” and there are a variety of ways to serve it. Naturally, I had to give it a try.

One bite and I was hooked. I have to add it to my list of favorite easy breakfast recipes next to my yogurt with granola, overnight oats, and the best blueberry muffins.

Ingredients

To make ricotta toast, you’ll only need a few simple ingredients. Here’s what you’ll need to get started:

  • Bread: Any type of bread will work, but I recommend using a rustic, country-style loaf for maximum flavor and texture. If you’re looking for something a bit more calorie friendly try Dave’s Killer Bread thin-sliced.
  • Ricotta cheese: Look for a fresh, high-quality ricotta cheese at your local grocery store or specialty food shop.
  • Jam or honey: Choose your favorite flavor of jam or honey to spread on top of your toast. I bought local jam (from Freedom Farms) at the farmer’s market.
  • Optional toppings: Get creative with your toppings! Some of our favorite additions include sliced fruit, chopped nuts, dried fruit, granola, or a sprinkle of sea salt.

Since this recipe only has three ingredients, you want to make sure you use the best possible ingredients. It will make all the difference.

How to Make

I’ll walk you through the steps for making this tasty ricotta toast. I’ve also provided a full ingredient list and detailed instructions in the printable recipe card below.

  1. Place the ricotta into a bowl and beat with an electric mixer for 4-5 minutes until the cheese becomes creamy. Add a pinch of salt and mix well to combine. (If you have a sweet tooth like me, you may be tempted to add sugar. Don’t. I promise you it’s not needed.)
  2. Toast the sliced bread.
  3. Spread the ricotta on the toasted bread. You’ll want about 2 tablespoons per slice depending on the size of your toast. (You will have leftover whipped ricotta. Just put it back in the container and store in the refrigerator.)
  4. Top with three different jams of your choice. Serve and enjoy!

Recipe Variations

To take your ricotta toast to the next level, try experimenting with different jams to add a burst of flavor to your breakfast. Here are three delicious combinations to get you started:

  • Fig Jam and Honey – Spread a generous amount of fig jam on your ricotta toast and drizzle it with honey. The sweetness of the honey perfectly complements the earthy flavor of the fig jam, making it a perfect balance of flavors.
  • Strawberry Jam and Balsamic Vinegar – Add a tangy twist to your ricotta toast by spreading a layer of strawberry jam and drizzling balsamic vinegar on top. The combination of sweet and tangy flavors will tantalize your taste buds.
  • Raspberry Jam and Nutella – If you’re in the mood for something indulgent, spread Nutella on your ricotta toast and top it with a dollop of raspberry jam. The combination of chocolate and fruit is a match made in heaven and will leave you feeling satisfied all morning.

However you fix it, this is an easy and creative way to make something unique and delicious for breakfast or an afternoon snack.

  1. You need to try it (ricotta) spread on toast, then sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar – And then I lightly toast it again in the broiler/toaster oven. Even works great with cottage cheese (and cinnamon & sugar), then broiled in the toaster oven.
(Tastes kinda like a cream cheese stolen with way less calories!)

  2. nice simple recipe, at least by the ingredients, but creative combination of them to make a very nice snack, the ricotta is what’s the most interesting here, I’f never have thought of it, thank you!
