I’m always happy to have another easy appetizer recipe in my back pocket, especially one that looks like I put in a lot more effort than I actually did. These Maple Dijon Sausage Bites are exactly that. They’re warm, a little sticky, wonderfully savory, and coated in a maple mustard glaze that is seriously good. So good!

I also love how versatile they are. I can picture a bowl of these sitting out for a football game just as easily as I can see them tucked into a pretty appetizer spread for Thanksgiving or a holiday party. They come together quickly, the ingredient list is refreshingly simple, and they’re the kind of little bite people tend to circle back for. Those are all good things in my book.

I don’t know about you, but I’m craving a little fall: cooler weather, shorter days, and lots of cozy recipes. I will definitely add these sausage bites to my must-make list. I hope you do too! Let’s get into the recipe.

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

  • Big flavor with very little effort. These Maple Dijon Sausage Bites have that wonderful sweet, tangy, savory combination that makes you want to keep going back for another. Maple syrup, Dijon mustard, rosemary, and a splash of apple cider vinegar turn simple smoked sausage into something that feels a little more special.
  • They’re incredibly easy to make. There’s no complicated prep or long list of unusual ingredients here. Slice the sausage, whisk together the glaze, toss everything together, and let the oven do most of the work.
  • Perfect for entertaining. Serve these warm with toothpicks, and you have an easy appetizer that works just as well for game day as it does for a fall gathering, cocktail party, or holiday spread. They’re hearty enough to feel satisfying, but still easy to grab and snack on.

Ingredients

Before we make these savory little bites, we’ll review the list of ingredients needed for this easy cocktail recipe. I’ll walk you through what I used below.

  • Smoked Sausage â€“ Fully cooked smoked sausage is the base of this recipe and gives the bites their savory, slightly smoky flavor. Kielbasa works especially well here, but you can use your favorite variety.
  • Pure Maple Syrup â€“ Use pure maple syrup for the best flavor and a natural sweetness that pairs beautifully with the mustard and smoky sausage.
  • Dijon Mustard â€“ Dijon mustard adds tang, depth, and just enough sharpness to balance the sweetness of the maple syrup and brown sugar.
  • Light Brown Sugar â€“ A little brown sugar helps the glaze thicken and caramelize while adding a warm molasses-like sweetness.
  • Apple Cider Vinegar â€“ This brightens up the glaze with a little acidity and keeps the sweetness from becoming too heavy.
  • Worcestershire Sauce â€“ Worcestershire sauce adds savory depth and a subtle richness that helps round out the maple Dijon glaze.
  • Fresh Rosemary â€“ Fresh rosemary brings a woodsy, aromatic flavor that feels especially perfect for fall and holiday entertaining.
  • Garlic Powder â€“ Garlic powder adds a subtle savory note without overpowering the other flavors found in the glaze.
  • Black Pepper â€“ A little black pepper adds warmth and helps balance the sweet and tangy flavors.
  • Cayenne Pepper â€“ This is completely optional, but a pinch adds just a touch of heat without making the sausage bites spicy.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does the maple Dijon glaze seem thin at first?

That’s completely normal. The glaze will look fairly loose when you first whisk it together, but the heat of the oven helps reduce and thicken it. Adding the glaze in two stages also helps build up that glossy coating rather than having everything run off at once.

What’s the best way to keep them warm for a party?

After baking, you can transfer the sausage bites to a small slow cooker set to warm. Add any glaze left on the baking sheet too, and give everything an occasional stir so the sausage stays nicely coated.

Can I double the recipe?

Absolutely, but I would use two baking sheets rather than crowding everything onto one pan. Leaving a little room around the sausage helps the glaze reduce and caramelize instead of creating too much liquid on the pan.
