Ideas for Fall Home Decorating

Every time one of these home tours rolls around, I find it hard to believe that another season is upon us. However, if there is one season I’m happy to make room for, it’s fall. With pumpkins (both for decorating and eating), slightly cooler temperatures, fall festivals, colorful leaves, and cozy evenings on the couch (Bring on the blankets and warm apple cider!), what’s not to love?
For this year’s Finding Fall Home Tour hosted by Laura or Finding Home Farms, I’m joining 16 other bloggers and Better Homes and Gardens! The previous destination on this festive tour was Liz Marie’s home from the Liz Marie Blog. I admire Liz and her style so much. It’s an honor to follow her in this series. If my house is your first stop, be sure to click back (start at the beginning here) to see what you missed.
If you are new to Inspired by Charm (IBC), let me extend a heartfelt welcome! My name is Michael. Here on IBC I share a little bit of everything. From recipes to home decor to DIY projects to entertaining tips, my goal is to inspire you with fun, doable, and colorful ideas.
Now that I’ve introduced myself, let’s begin the tour. If you have any questions, please leave them in comments. All of my paint colors can be found here. I’ve also linked up a few products at the end of this post to help you easily find some of things featured on this tour.
This is my living room. It’s probably my favorite space in my home (and it seems to be yours, too). I really love tweaking this room each season.
(Since I know someone will ask, I purchased the rug in the space was from CB2 a few years ago. Unfortunately, it is no longer available.)
I decided to begin my seasonal decorating with lots of fresh flowers. Even though I know they won’t last all season, you just can’t beat the real thing. (Plus, in a week or so, it will give me an excuse to get creative with my mantel again.) These flowers are from Farmgirl Flowers. They create rustic bouquets with in-season blooms and foliage. Given my limited access to unique flowers, they are a lifesaver. I want a shipment every week.
Over in my office, I decided to set up a little candy bar. With Halloween just around the corner, I thought this would be fun. However, having a plethora of candy within arms reach of my desk may not have been the best idea.
I even tucked in a few of my DIY Acorn Acorn Squash. You can learn how to make those here.
In the dining room, I opted for something less traditional in terms of fall colors. I focused on whites, greens, and deep purple.
I did add some orange with this wreath. I couldn’t resist.
In the kitchen (which I recently shared here), I kept things simple. A few pumpkins and some flowers give a seasonal touch.
Now, I didn’t do much fall decorating upstairs, so I’m going to show you those rooms at another time – hopefully in a week or so. However, I did want to point out a few things.
First, I picked up a new chair for my closet area. I’ve been looking for something for a while now, and thought this worked perfectly. Simply styled with a brass studded pillow, it makes a great addition to the space.
In my bedroom, I switched out the throw at the bottom of the bed with a faux fur blanket. I also added new artwork in the hall.
Secondly, I finally paid a little bit of attention to my second guest bedroom.
This was a goal from my last home tour. (It was likewise my goal to get my other bedroom painted, which I managed to do as well! Yay for progress. [More on that soon.]) I decided to clear some of the clutter and limit the color palette. While it still has a ways to go, it’s looking better already. What do you think?
These two seem to think so.
And that, my friends, wraps up another home tour here on IBC! I can’t thank you enough for stopping by. I hope you enjoyed seeing my home and picked up a few ideas for your space.
Next up on the tour is Emily from Jones Design Company. Her space is beautifully dressed for fall, so be sure to head over there for more inspired ideas.
Also, our friends over at Better Homes and Gardens are joining us on this tour too! Check out their post here. If you’re decorating your home for fall, but sure to share some pictures on Instagram. Happy Fall!
2015 Finding Fall Home Tour
More to come …
Love the ideals thanks
Your home is charmingly stunning! I love your use of color – eye capturing but not overpowering. Every room is perfection!
Thank you so much!!
xo Michael
Your house is so cute! So bright and cheerful! I LOVE your light fixtures – they are AWESOME! I don’t get to have any fun light fixtures because my husband grew up in Savannah, and it’s so darn hot there that you have to have a ceiling fan in every room. So, of course, I have a ceiling fan in almost every room! Thanks for sharing your home – it looks great!
Linked over from Thistlewood Farms…. I love your dining room rug, with the chairs, with the wall color, with the chandalier. So much inspiration and heart in every room, just like Karianne’s. I am subscribing now!
First visit here, but it won’t be the last. Subscribing to your email list.
Blessings, Karen
Oh my gosh. Are you our color twin, separated at birth? LOVE how bright and fun your home is! Can we come ova? ;} OUR FAVE is that dresser in the bedroom, though! LOVE LOVE LOVE it all!
Hi Micheal,
what an awesome Home you have …. I really like the poufs in your living room (white with yellow pattern) . Could you pls let me know where to buy those kind of pouf or even the same ones?
I’m a jewelry designer in Germany, but also have some homestaging clients.
Well, I can tell you they are from Target. However, that was over a year ago and I don’t believe they sell them anymore.
Hope that helps.

Hi Michael……your home is absolutely beautiful. Love how light and airy it feels, while also being very inviting and charming. Perfection! Thanks for sharing.
Thank you!! 🙂

I’m drawn to the accent pillows that are placed in the upholstered, curved-back chairs at your dining room table. Can you share where you found them?
I admire people who have a talent for mixing country farmhouse, with traditional, with eclectic, with elegant, with contemporary, with flea market find, with COLOR (!!), with neutrals…just beautiful!
Thank you for sharing your home with us!
Thanks so much, Regina – that would certainly explain my style. Haha! 🙂 And I LOVE IT!
Those pillows were part of Target’s Spring Threshold line. I don’t think they are sold anymore. 🙁

Your home is amazing! Where did your coffee table come from? I’ve been searching all over for the same style but their either too small or too big with our sectional.
Again, gorgeous and I love your blog. You are incredibly talented.

Alison – it’s the Halle Coffee Table from Wayfair. 🙂
And thank you!!

Always love your home and style Michael – and your home is so gorgeous decorated for fall! It is hard to choose a favorite element – but I am so loving your living room and that fireplace! Those branches, the tiny pumpkins, the flowers- perfection! 🙂
Awe, you are so sweet Courtney. That means so much coming from you. Thanks!!

Amazing space, sir! Love Love Love! We have a lot of the same pieces:) Now I’ll just know how to style mine! Ha
Just back from a long trip . . . and wow when I logged onto your site. Picture perfect home . . . .do you live there? 🙂 I love your design style — creative, colorful, clutter free, and unique. I am going to copycat a lot of your ideas to celebrate the fall season within our home. I like every single thing but the wreath really popped out for me. Your choice of lighting, rugs and furniture is absolutely wonderful. And, of course, the cats are a warm, soft, reality that enhanced the feel of the home. Thank you for sharing.
Wow. What a beautiful compliment. Thank you so much Sheila! 🙂

Hi I would like to know where you found the red step ladder/seat. I love it!
Annette, it’s actually vintage. I found it at a local thrift shop.

Everything is absolutely beautiful, Michael! I love that your home is infused with simple fall colors and yet still retains the essence of ‘YOU’!!
Michael, I’ve been folllowing IBC for awhile now but was always anxious to comment. But I have to stop creeping and actually say something after your tour, hahaha. Your home is absolutely beautiful. You make it seem so easy for people like me, first time homeowners looking for their own personal style. The fresh flowers are doable for anyone, but they look perfect in your home! Fall is my favorite season and was so excited to get the update with the tour! I’m sure you hear it all the time, but you are truly inspiring and have such a great mind for home ideas.
Enough of the creep, hahaha, can we see picture of your entryway? Caught a glisp of a great bench in there, i think.
Keep inspiring us to find our creative side!
Mary
Mary – I can’t thank you enough for taking the time to comment. You words really mean so much to me. They sum up exactly what I’m trying to do here in this little corner of the internet. Thank you. Thank you!
My entryway is really small and really challenging to photograph. However, you can see it better here: https://inspiredbycharm.com/2015/01/little-entryway.html and here: https://inspiredbycharm.com/2014/05/diy-pendant-sconce.html
Hope that helps.

I just found all the colors on your blog post! All of my trim is Extra White from SW in my home so adding a few complimentary walls colors will be easy! Can’t wait to get started! Thank you!!
Hi! I seem to do okay with furniture but I LOVE the way you have used complimentary paint colors from room to room. I tend to paint everything white so I do not have to deal with it. 🙂 Will you share the paint colors you are using in your rooms? So peaceful and gorgeous! xoxoxo
Hey Carrie,
Thank you so much! Re: Paint colors – I’ve actually made it pretty easy for you. All of my colors can be found here: https://inspiredbycharm.com/2014/07/inspired-by-charm-paint-colors.html
