Ideas for Fall Home Decorating

Every time one of these home tours rolls around, I find it hard to believe that another season is upon us. However, if there is one season I’m happy to make room for, it’s fall. With pumpkins (both for decorating and eating), slightly cooler temperatures, fall festivals, colorful leaves, and cozy evenings on the couch (Bring on the blankets and warm apple cider!), what’s not to love?
For this year’s Finding Fall Home Tour hosted by Laura or Finding Home Farms, I’m joining 16 other bloggers and Better Homes and Gardens! The previous destination on this festive tour was Liz Marie’s home from the Liz Marie Blog. I admire Liz and her style so much. It’s an honor to follow her in this series. If my house is your first stop, be sure to click back (start at the beginning here) to see what you missed.
If you are new to Inspired by Charm (IBC), let me extend a heartfelt welcome! My name is Michael. Here on IBC I share a little bit of everything. From recipes to home decor to DIY projects to entertaining tips, my goal is to inspire you with fun, doable, and colorful ideas.
Now that I’ve introduced myself, let’s begin the tour. If you have any questions, please leave them in comments. All of my paint colors can be found here. I’ve also linked up a few products at the end of this post to help you easily find some of things featured on this tour.
This is my living room. It’s probably my favorite space in my home (and it seems to be yours, too). I really love tweaking this room each season.
(Since I know someone will ask, I purchased the rug in the space was from CB2 a few years ago. Unfortunately, it is no longer available.)
I decided to begin my seasonal decorating with lots of fresh flowers. Even though I know they won’t last all season, you just can’t beat the real thing. (Plus, in a week or so, it will give me an excuse to get creative with my mantel again.) These flowers are from Farmgirl Flowers. They create rustic bouquets with in-season blooms and foliage. Given my limited access to unique flowers, they are a lifesaver. I want a shipment every week.
Over in my office, I decided to set up a little candy bar. With Halloween just around the corner, I thought this would be fun. However, having a plethora of candy within arms reach of my desk may not have been the best idea.
I even tucked in a few of my DIY Acorn Acorn Squash. You can learn how to make those here.
In the dining room, I opted for something less traditional in terms of fall colors. I focused on whites, greens, and deep purple.
I did add some orange with this wreath. I couldn’t resist.
In the kitchen (which I recently shared here), I kept things simple. A few pumpkins and some flowers give a seasonal touch.
Now, I didn’t do much fall decorating upstairs, so I’m going to show you those rooms at another time – hopefully in a week or so. However, I did want to point out a few things.
First, I picked up a new chair for my closet area. I’ve been looking for something for a while now, and thought this worked perfectly. Simply styled with a brass studded pillow, it makes a great addition to the space.
In my bedroom, I switched out the throw at the bottom of the bed with a faux fur blanket. I also added new artwork in the hall.
Secondly, I finally paid a little bit of attention to my second guest bedroom.
This was a goal from my last home tour. (It was likewise my goal to get my other bedroom painted, which I managed to do as well! Yay for progress. [More on that soon.]) I decided to clear some of the clutter and limit the color palette. While it still has a ways to go, it’s looking better already. What do you think?
These two seem to think so.
And that, my friends, wraps up another home tour here on IBC! I can’t thank you enough for stopping by. I hope you enjoyed seeing my home and picked up a few ideas for your space.
Next up on the tour is Emily from Jones Design Company. Her space is beautifully dressed for fall, so be sure to head over there for more inspired ideas.
Also, our friends over at Better Homes and Gardens are joining us on this tour too! Check out their post here. If you’re decorating your home for fall, but sure to share some pictures on Instagram. 2015 Finding Fall Home Tour
More to come …
absolutely gorgeous!! So many inspiring ideas! ♥
Such a stunning home and attention to detail in your decor. Love it
I love this tour! All the color is so inspiring!! You have a beautiful and creative home!
Beautiful fall decorating Michael! Your house is so beautiful but so approachable, makes me wish I could just move right in. I have to ask – the grey felt and leather basket with the throws – where is it from? And the throws with the leather, so clever. Are they DIY with belts or do they come that way?
What an amazing tour! Very unique but at the same time true to the Fall season! Loved it! Best, Silvana
What a gorgeous space you’ve created! It was a pleasure to tour your beautiful home.
Michael everything looks AMAZING!!! And this is probably totally random but can I just tell you how much I loved seeing the remotes on your coffee table?! LOL! It represents the fact that we can have pretty things mixed with our everyday things and have it all work together beautifully. Love it!
Right!? Everyone says, “hide them”, but I’m not about to hunt for a remote or open a box when my favorite show is about to start. Ha!
Thanks so much!!
xo Michael

Michael, I ALWAYS love taking a walk through your home. It just always looks so fresh and inviting. Absolutely beautiful. May I ask if you like the lighting fixture in your foyer? I’m looking at something very similar and wondered how the lighting was.
Karen, Thank you SO much. 🙂 Yes, I love that fixture. It was a must-have when it first came out (from Pottery Barn several years ago [they no longer sell it]) and it’s still one of my favorite purchases. I have it set to a dimmer which is really wonderful. T
Thanks again!

Your house looks so inviting and colorful! Would you mind sharing where your dining chairs are from?
Thank you!! My dining room chairs are called Wishbone Chairs. They are available at many retails these days (in a variety of colors too). However, I found mine on Overstock. Hope that helps!
