You can never have enough cocktail recipe ideas for the holidays, right? Since I love experimenting with cocktail flavors almost as much as I love Christmas, I have another recipe to share with you. This one is for a Cherry Almond Cocktail.
Like me, you’ve probably noticed that creamy drinks – eggnog, Kahlua and Cream, and White Russians – are especially popular around the holidays. Inspired by these classics, I thought about other flavors that would work well in a cream-based cocktail. Cherry and almond immediately came to mind. It’s one of my all-time favorite flavor combinations and perfect for the season.
The combination of cherry brandy and amaretto in this drink makes for an easy-sipping beverage that’s wonderfully festive.
To top off this cocktail, I added a chocolate covered cherry. You can certainly use store-bought, but I recommend making your own.
A few years ago I shared this recipe for Chocolate Covered Spiked Cherries. What I did was soak the cherries in liqueur for a few days and then dip them in chocolate. While they are delicious on their own, they also make a delightful garnish. You can get the full details on how to make them here.
With cherries made and the rest of the ingredients on hand, let’s whip up a cocktail or two.
makes one cocktail
Here’s what you will need:
1 ounce cherry brandy
1 ounce amaretto
2 ounces half-and-half
Dipped cherries for garnish
Add the liqueurs to a tumbler filled with ice. Top with half-and-half. Stir to mix; then garnish with a chocolate dipped cherry.
It truly is that simple. Plus, if you have a well-stocked bar, you probably won’t need too many other things to throw this together when company arrives.
