DIY Wood Styling Beads
This Post May Contain Affiliate Links. Please Read Our Disclosure PolicyI guess this is the week of reimagining previous projects here on IBC. Earlier this week I tackled my brushstroke painted plates again, but with a new look. Today I’m back with an everyday-inspired update for my beaded garland.
You may remember that this past Christmas I crafted an oversized wood bead garland using various wooden balls and blocks. Given that I chose a more traditional color scheme of red and green, I thought I’d rework the garland for winter.
I also wanted to create another string of beads to match so I bought some additional wood beads. Since these were smaller in size, they came pre-drilled which made this project even easier. I purchased this set and this set from Amazon.
First I unstrung the beads from the garland I’d made previously. Next, I repainted the red and burgundy beads so they are now a light or dark turquoise color. Again, I used Fusion Mineral Paint. As you know, I’ve done a few projects with Fusion Mineral Paint. I love how easy it is to pair colors. They always create the most beautiful combinations.
I was surprised to see how quickly the new paint covered the old. It only took about two coats. Once the beads were dry, I simply restrung them on the leather cording, and the project was complete.
For the smaller beaded garland, I created a more consistent pattern using three different sized beads with even color placement.
Since the predrilled holes on these beads were a bit smaller, I strung them on twine I had on hand. It was truly that easy.
As you can see, these garlands (a.k.a. wood styling beads) can be used in the traditional sense as a garland to adorn your mantle. I especially love the larger garland just spilling out of a bowl on a table or hung on a wall hook to create interesting and 3-D wall art.
Custom projects that work for multiple purposes are a winner in my home styling toolkit, so I definitely recommend giving this project a try. You can get the full tutorial for the larger garland here. Have fun creating your own unique look with different paints and bead shapes and sizes.
Happy Decorating!
I LOVE the garlands and the share beads really make it different and special!

I’ve seen those wood and brass candlesticks in several of your posts recently. LOVE! Where are they from?
They were from Target. I believe from their Holiday 2016 collection, so they might no longer be available. 🙁

The beads are lovely, truly, but the tote got the bulk of my attention. Do you know how hard it is to find a bag with long handles? ?
LOVE these colours, M! So much. Super sharp project!
