These "acorns" made with acorn squash are a quick and easy DIY to help decorate your home for the fall. inspiredbycharm.com

This week I’m busy “fallifying” my house. In recent years I’ve been posting seasonal home tours with some blogger friends, and our fall tours kick off next week. It feels a tad early (especially since it’s been in the upper 80s this past week), but I keep reminding myself that it is almost mid-September.

With decorating on my brain and DIY twitches in my hands, I wanted to tackle a few fall-inspired DIYs this year. My first project: DIY Acorn Acorn Squash.

Aren’t they cool? I thought the squash would add an interesting touch to my decor. The idea is to make an acorn squash look like an acorn by wrapping rope around one end. (Acorn squash are great for this project since they resemble the nut portion of the acorn – hence their name.)

When it comes to including natural elements in my decor, I try to use the real things. (There are times, of course, when that’s not possible.) So, for these acorns, I opted to use real acorn squash that I picked up at the grocery store. However, feel free to use what works best for you: some mini pumpkins, faux gourds, or squash. You might even switch up the rope color. Do what suits your taste and decor. Make it your own.

On a side note: if you enjoy using natural elements in your home and love a good DIY, you will want to check out my friend Stacy’s (the fab blogger behind Not Just a Housewife) new book, Natural Accents. It’s packed with fun and inspiring projects for decorating your home using things from nature.

I’m enjoying my copy of Natural Accents and have already dog-eared a few pages with directions for projects I plan to try. Head on over to your local bookstore or HERE on Amazon to buy the book.

Okay, back to my acorn squash. Let me show you how to make them. This is a super simple project.

Here’s what you will need:
acorn squash
rope
hot glue gun and glue sticks
scissors

Begin by breaking or cutting off the stem of the squash.

Next, apply a dab of hot glue to the top of the squash and attach the end of your rope. Create a small one inch loop with the rope and glue it to the top of the squash.

Then start wrapping the rope around the loop, applying hot glue when needed to hold the rope in place.

Continue wrapping the rope around the top of the squash, gluing occasionally to ensur that the rope stays in place. Once you’ve covered about 1/3 of the squash with rope, cut off the rope at an angle and glue the end of it to the squash.

Voila! Your Acorn Acorn Squash is complete.

Now, all you need to do is tuck the squash into your decor and you’ll have a unique and natural fall element for your space.

Again, feel free to get creative by changing the rope, painting the squash, using a pumpkin, etc. If you do give this a project a try, be sure to share it on Instagram. I love seeing your creations. Use the hashtag #myIBC.

These are soooooo sweet! Love the idea of having huge acorns on the table! I could see getting out a sharpie (gold, maybe?) and adding a little to them as well.
