Rockin’ Around the Vintage Christmas Tree
This Post May Contain Affiliate Links. Please Read Our Disclosure PolicyWell, it’s November 8 and my Christmas tree is up.
I know some folks dislike seeing anything remotely holiday-related so early in November, but my mind is in full -blown holiday mode at this point. So, welcome to an Inspired by Charm Holiday! As I mentioned when I showed you my Peace Wreath, I hope my earliness gives you time to recreate or be inspired by these ideas for your own decor. So with that said, on with the show!
The reason I put this tree up so early is that the awesome folks at Treetopia offered to send me one of their trees to decorate. Originally, I’d wanted a traditional green tree, but they talked me into doing something with more pizazz. I looked through their colorful tree collection.- Their selection is unbelievable. However, after spotting the All That Glitters Gold / Platinum Tree, my search was over. When gold is an option, it’s the hands-down winner.
After selecting the gold tree, I needed to devise a decorating plan. I went back to my eBay collections and started gathering inspiration. After some searching, I decided to go all vintage. I wanted to get ornaments that on their own would seem sort of old and tacky, but when put together, would tell a story of tradition and vintage holiday cheer. I also knew I had to have color!
My go-to source for vintage Christmas decor is eBay, so I began building a collection of vintage lighted tree toppers. (You can follow my eBay collections here by the way to get a sneak peek of what I’m up to. In fact, I have a collection for vintage ornaments, tree toppers, and other holiday goodies.) I thought, instead of placing the tree toppers in their traditional location, I would to scatter them around the tree for a little color and sparkle everywhere. Cute, right?
I then started collecting the ornaments. The goal was to get really interesting and unique ornaments. I didn’t just want plain glass balls. I found an amazing collection of these beaded and sequined ornaments. It was such a score.
A few of my favorites are this stove / chimney with a little fire and stockings.
I also got a set of six felted and sequined ornaments. Three are snowflakes and three are birds. The detail on these is amazing.
Finally, I got these gorgeous mercury glass beaded ornaments from this fab eBay seller. They may be small, but they make this tree extra special.
I finished things off with a pink and gold vintage mercury glass garland.
I saved my favorite tree topper for the top.
Okay, now that I explained things to you, let me show you how I did it!
And yes, I totally pulled inspiration from Young House Love and their fun tree trimming time lapse videos. They are so fun, and it certainly was good practice for my first video.
While I plan to gather a few more ornaments, I’m so pleased with the way this tree came together. I’m positively in love with the actual tree as well. As you can tell from the video it was so simple to set up. Plus it’s pre-lit and that saves tons of time. I will say, though, that my favorite part is the color of the branches. I’m so glad I was encouraged by Treetopia to try a non-traditional tree for this challenge. The mix of gold and platinum needles almost makes this tree look like vintage silver and I just can’t get enough of that.
I may end up moving this tree into my dining room and setting up my Tree of a Different Color in this space. Given their color schemes, I think that would be the ideal, but time will tell.
I’ll also be on the hunt for a tree skirt. Right now I’m just using an old tablecloth. It works, but I can do better.
And that about wraps it up. What do think of my vintage-inspired gold tree? What are your plans for your tree this year?
A huge thanks to my new friends at Treetopia for this fun challenge. Be sure to say hello to them on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and Instagram.
My eBay collections were curated as part of my collaboration with eBay. As always, the thoughts and ideas are all my own. #FollowItFindIt

Oh the joy! The video just made my day. I have a job, that I despise. So, anything to entertain me (at work) is much appreciated. I enjoyed the section when you bump the table and the candle falls, the many times you come and go, the zoom zoom of cars passing and how you placed the star on top and took steps backwards to view it’s placement. Not to mention your song choice! This is so charming. Many thanks for the giggles and smile.
Tis’ a beautiful tree, indeed!
That tree is amazing. Your decorating time-lapse is so much fun.
The color gives the tree enough of an edge to be interesting yet enough warmth to still say cozy Christmas. Your vintage ornament collection is perfect.
After seeing the gold/platinum tree I need to rethink my silver tinsel tree with 50’s robots and spaceships. It might be time for a change.
Beautiful tree and as your blog suggests, everything you do oozes charm. Thanks for the beautiful inspiration.
You are so sweet Janet! Thank you! Oozing charm is a trait I don’t mind having. And your robot tree sounds so cute! Maybe you can make it a table top tree and go bigger with gold! Haha. We all need two Christmas trees, right? Haha.

I love the video! And I am a totally jealous hater that you have that gorgeous tree already set up in your home! Thanks for all your inspirational projects and your humorous writing. Your blog is the number one blog that inspired me to start my own. I think everything you do is visually stunning and near perfect. Plus you seem like you are still a pretty down to earth kind of guy.
Awww Jen! You’ve seriously made my day – maybe even my week! Thank you so much for your amazingly kind words. They are so appreciated!

I love the tree toppers! I for one have been waiting for your tree! I was thrilled when you mentioned previously that you were using vintage decorations. Perfect mix of now & then. Loved the video. You are adorable!
Terri – you are so sweet! Thank you! I’ll have another tree coming soon too. 🙂 Maybe I’ll have to do another video.

It’s not too early! As far as I’m concerned the season starts November 1st 😉 I love the tree! I have started collecting vintage ornaments as well, though I will be keeping those to myself and using them in my garden office on a 3-foot desktop tree. Still unsure of the house tree’s theme for this year. All I know is it will be going up tomorrow evening while Bing, Dean, and Nat croon in the background with the table full of festive finger foods. I make a full-blown event of tree decorating day!
PS – It killed me to see that Target’s got a collection of ornaments that look EXACTLY like many of the vintage ornaments that I paid MUCH more for! This makes me both happy and sad! lol
Yay! I’m glad I’m not the only one that likes to start this season early! I hear you on the ornaments, but I’m a huge Target fan so I’ll probably love them. Haha. I must check that out.

I love this even though it is painful to think of Christmas this early. Love when the candlesticks fell. You are beyond adorable! Love your blog, love your ideas!
Thanks sooooo much Tracey! Glad you like the video, the blog and my ideas. That means so much!!

A gold tree?? I die. That video was AWESOME – and I laughed so hard when you paused on “Deck” and then with the candlestick falling. LOVE THIS. I am so going to try and do that but with three boys we’ll see. lol Your ornament collection is ahhhh-mazing. Pinning and sharing this on FB now.
Have a great weekend! xo
Haha! I know – the gold is amazing. Glad you like the video! Thanks Claire!

What a fun video! I really love your tree, I’ve never seen one like that – the gold/platinum mix is so pretty. And, the vintage ornaments are great, too. I have a few but that is one thing that I want to start collecting. Very nice! Happy Holidays
Thanks a million Kari! It’s such a gorgeous tree! And vintage ornaments are so timeless.

Amazing! It’s modern and old at the same time. Thanks for the inspiration.
You are so sweet! That’s exactly what I was going for. Thank you!!
