My Best Pasta Salad Recipes:

Delicious Pine Nut and Arugula Pesto Pasta Salad Recipe #pasta #salad #pesto #pinenut #arugula #pastasalad #recipe #sidedish

Pine Nut and Arugula Pesto Pasta Salad

This pasta salad recipe contains four things I love: pine nuts, arugula, feta, and pasta. The delightful flavor combination is sure to impress even the most discerning palates. And besides all that deliciousness, there’s no chopping involved!

Really Good Macaroni Salad #macaronisalad #recipe #pasta #salad #macaroni

Really Good Macaroni Salad (Mayo-based)

Knowing that some folks have strong feelings about macaroni salad, it took me a while to muster the courage to share my favorite. This version uses mayonnaise and a lot of other ingredients that guarantee it’s “really good.” (This salad is also part of my “really good” recipe collection on IBC. So is the Really Good Pasta Salad recipe that’s linked later in this post.)

Macaroni Salad (Miracle Whip Based) Recipe #macaronisalad #summer #grilling #recipe #pasta #salad #sidedish

Macaroni Salad (Miracle Whip-based)

The inspiration for this recipe came from the salad my dad fixes for our family’s annual Fourth of July celebration. As with his pasta salad, mine has the familiar zip and tang of Miracle Whip. But being who I am, I’m compelled to take things up a notch with the addition of red pepper, celery, dill relish, and a few seasonings.

This Broccoli and Chicken Pasta Salad is a unique and delicious pasta salad recipe. #broccoli #chicken #pastasalad #pasta #sidedish #salad #side #recipe

Broccoli and Chicken Pasta Salad

I recently made this salad for the first time, and I couldn’t be more pleased with it. It’s a mashup of classic broccoli salad and chicken pasta salad. If you enjoy either salad or both of them, this is the entrée you’ll want to whip up for that next special luncheon or supper.

Made with pasta, beans, corn, peppers, cheese, and jalapeños - this Southwest Pasta Salad is a winner! #pastasalad #pasta #salad #southwest #recipe

Southwest Pasta Salad

In this fun twist on the classic, wagon wheel pasta is mixed with corn, beans, roasted red peppers, jalapeños, and ranch dressing. The touch of heat and Southwestern-inspired ingredients add up to a pasta salad recipe that’s the ideal side for any time you want to kick up your heals.

How to Make Delicious Tortellini Pasta Salad #tortellini #pasta #salad #pasta #pastasalad #recipe #sidedish

Tortellini Pasta Salad

Take your pasta salad game to the next level with this Tortellini Pasta Salad. Just combine cheese tortellini, pepperoni, cheese, mixed veggies, and pine nuts and toss all of that with a bold red wine vinaigrette. A new go-to for lunch? Dinner? Get-togethers? Yes, all of the above!

More Delicious Pasta Salad Recipes:

Delicious Sun-Dried Tomato Pasta Salad Recipe #pastasalad #sundried #tomatoes #pasta #recipe #side

Sun-Dried Tomato Pasta Salad

The star of this dish is the flavor-burst from the sun-dried tomatoes. But the supporting players-garbanzo beans, artichoke hearts, arugula, and feta cheese-are equally noteworthy. Your friends and family will applaud your decision to make this pasta salad recipe.

Pasta Salad with Roasted Mushrooms

For this pasta salad recipe, you first roast tomatoes and any kind of mushrooms you like. (Your kitchen will smell heavenly.) Once cooled, they are mixed with the pasta of your choice, cannellini beans, Parmesan cheese, and an oil and vinegar dressing that has a hint of sweetness. What an easy and delicious salad!

BLT Pasta Salad

Anyone who’s a fan of the ever-popular bacon, lettuce, and tomato sandwich will adore this pasta salad recipe. Just as you’d expect, the dressing is mayonnaise-based. Plus, it doesn’t take long to mix up a bowl of this salad for a light summer supper or last-minute cookout with loved ones.

Really Good Pasta Salad recipe packed with flavor and perfect for summer entertaining #pastasalad #pasta #sidedish #picnic #summer

Really Good Pasta Salad

I promise you this pasta salad recipe lives up to its name. Besides corkscrew pasta and olive-oil-based Italian dressing, it has pepperoni, salami, sharp cheddar, banana peppers, green peppers, broccoli, grape tomatoes, and olives. It can’t get much better than that!

Fall Harvest Pasta Salad

Although this pasta salad recipe is resplendent with the colors of fall, the flavors are wonderful year-round. Roasted sweet potatoes, broccoli, red onions, dried cranberries, multi-colored pasta, and more are mixed with poppyseed dressing. My guess is you’ll be making this every chance you get.

Roasted Vegetable Pasta Salad #recipe #roasted #vegetable #pastasalad #pasta #sidedish

Roasted Vegetable Pasta Salad

This pasta salad is loaded with veggies-zucchini, yellow squash, onion, green and red peppers, and eggplant-that you roast on the grill or in the oven. All that goodness is combined with whole wheat pasta, tomatoes, julienned basil, and a bit of pesto. Yum!

This California Cobb Pasta Salad Recipe with bacon, avocado, blue cheese, romaine, and tomatoes is perfect for summer entertaining! #pasta #salad #recipe #appetizer #pastasalad #cobb

California Cobb Pasta Salad

I love Cobb salad and probably enjoy it, even more, when it’s combined with pasta. The Golden State reference in the recipe name is a nod to the chopped avocado that you add right before serving. The simple olive oil and balsamic vinegar dressing make this salad light and bright for a mid-day or evening repast, whether you live on the West Coast or in a cooler clime like PA.

Which of these pasta salads do you like best? For me, it’s hard to pick just one. As regular readers of IBC know, my faves are always changing as I continue to create new recipes!

Cheesy Bread Dip

I am not exaggerating when I tell you that I LOVE cheese and bread. I especially like it when the cheese is warm, gooey, and all kinds of melty. That’s exactly what this Cheesy Bread Dip is like. Healthful? Probably not, but we can enjoy it in moderation, right?

This dip recipe makes a delicious and easy appetizer that is great for entertaining, especially as we enter the cooler months. The dip is hearty and full of flavor. I also think the presentation is delightful. Who doesn’t love a bread bowl?

Looking for more delicious dip recipes? I have an entire blog post dedicated to my favorite recipes. You can find them HERE.

As with many of my recipes, this dip is super simple to make. You only need to combine a few ingredients, toss them into a hollowed-out bread loaf, and pop that in the oven. I told you it’s simple.

Let me walk you through the steps.

How to Make Cheesy Bread Dip:

Begin by preheating the oven to 350 degrees F.

While the oven is warming up, grab a large bowl and mix together the cream cheese, cheddar cheese, onions, mayonnaise, sour cream, and Worcestershire sauce. You can add salt and pepper to taste.

Cut the center out of one of the loaves of bread. Slice the section of bread that is removed into cubes and reserve those for later.

Then, spoon the cheese mixture into the cavity you created in the bread. Place the cheese-filled bread on a baking sheet (just in case anything runs over). Bake for 35-40 minutes or until the cheese is bubbling and starting to darken on top.

In the meantime, slice the second loaf of bread into cubes for serving. I also like to serve this dip with sliced cucumbers. They go wonderfully with the cheese and are a healthful option.

The Cheesy Bread Dip is now ready to be served.

Gingerbread-Inspired Christmas Tree #christmas #tree #christmastree #gingerbread #decor #decoratings #diningroom #holiday #christmasdecor #ornament

Inspired by my newfound love for baking and decorating gingerbread, I’ve styled a gingerbread-inspired Christmas tree in my dining room and I’m thrilled to show you how it looks!

Gingerbread-Inspired Christmas Tree #christmas #tree #christmastree #gingerbread #decor #decoratings #diningroom #holiday #christmasdecor #ornament

Well friends, we did it! I’m fairly certain that this Gingerbread-Inspired Christmas Tree will be my final new post before Christmas 2020 arrives. (I have another post scheduled for tomorrow; it’s an amazing update to one of my all-time favorite Christmas posts.)

I may have a few final holiday moments to share with you between Christmas and the New Year, but we will see how that all plays out. To be honest, as I look at the amount of content I created and shared, this may have been my busiest Christmas season ever. I feel like a break is in order.

With that being said, this is my favorite time of year to create and share. I also know that for many of you, it’s one of your favorite times to follow along. I hope that what I’ve shared this season inspired a little holiday magic in your hearts, homes, and tummies. Honestly, it’s such a joy to share stylings and ideas with you and I’m forever grateful for your kindness, support, and general merriment along the way. Thank you!

Now, “back to our regularly scheduled program!”

Gingerbread-Inspired Christmas Tree

Let me give you a closer look at this adorable little tree and then I will tell you more about it.

Gingerbread-Inspired Christmas Tree #christmas #tree #christmastree #gingerbread #decor #decoratings #diningroom #holiday #christmasdecor #ornament

Back at the end of October, I told myself I was only going to create two new Christmas trees this year. Well, as you can see, I surpassed my goal. I’m officially up to three. (Well, technically four if you count my 3-ft kitchen Christmas tree.)

The idea for a Gingerbread-Inspired Christmas Tree came to me one afternoon and there was no stopping me. Originally I had envisioned something a little different. I had wanted to use dried orange slices, but that trend went bananas this year. Everyone seemed to be doing it, so I hopped off that bandwagon right away. (I LOVE the look; I just wanted to do something different.) Instead, I went with a gingerbread theme and the design came together from there.

Gingerbread-Inspired Christmas Tree #christmas #tree #christmastree #gingerbread #decor #decoratings #diningroom #holiday #christmasdecor #ornament

If you were following along last year, I went with a vintage-modern look in this space with bright reds and green. (You can see how that looked HERE and HERE.)

As the photos reveal, this year is the complete opposite. It’s almost a bit neutral, but there are still beautiful pops of color: the burgundy ornaments, the rich golden browns in the gingerbread, and a speckling of rust colors in the garland.

Gingerbread-Inspired Christmas Tree #christmas #tree #christmastree #gingerbread #decor #decoratings #diningroom #holiday #christmasdecor #ornament

Now, I typically like to share sources with you, but unfortunately, I don’t have many for this tree. Things are either sold out or I found them locally.

Here’s is the info I have to share with you:

The tree I selected is 4.5 feet, even though my plans called for something just a bit taller. Consequently, I decided to put the tree into this vintage picnic basket. (Fun fact, there is a picnic basket under all three of my trees this year. You can see my other trees HERE and HERE if you missed them.) Inside the picnic basket there is a box which raises the height of my tree, so the base of the tree is just an inch from the top of the basket. It added almost an extra foot to this tree making it the perfect height for this little corner of my dining room.

I covered the base of the tree with a piece of linen fabric. Then on top of that I filled in with some extra ornaments and a ball of twine. Around the picnic basket I added in some wrapped gifts and some unusual treasures like this vintage thermos and a little metal house bottle of maple syrup. It’s the cutest and holds my favorite maple syrup from Finding Home Farms.

As I mentioned above, all of the gingerbread ornaments on the tree were made by me. You can learn more about that process HERE. I can’t get over how much I love the look of gingerbread ornaments on the tree. I may have to leave this tree up through the month of January!

Gingerbread-Inspired Christmas Tree #christmas #tree #christmastree #gingerbread #decor #decoratings #diningroom #holiday #christmasdecor #ornament

If you look closely, you’ll also see my gingerbread “snow globe” sitting on the sideboard. It’s one of my new favorite Christmas decorations. I just love the way it turned out!

Gingerbread-Inspired Christmas Tree #christmas #tree #christmastree #gingerbread #decor #decoratings #diningroom #holiday #christmasdecor #ornament

In fact, the whole dining room has somewhat of a gingerbread theme as my DIY gingerbread wreath is hanging on the French doors on the opposite side of the room.

DIY Gingerbread Cookie Wreath #christmas #holiday #wreath #gingerbread #cookies #gingerbreadcookies #craft #christmasdecor

Other items included on this tree are extra large pinecones (a nod to my living room tree), some burgundy ornaments, a few gold ornaments for a little sparkle, and some paper snowflake ornaments. I also used one of my favorite new ribbons from Tidbits Linens on this tree. This particular ribbon is the All Natural 1″ Ribbon.

Gingerbread-Inspired Christmas Tree #christmas #tree #christmastree #gingerbread #decor #decoratings #diningroom #holiday #christmasdecor #ornament

To complete the look, I wrapped the tree with this beautiful beaded garland. I had ordered this garland months ago in hopes that it would match. It was on backorder for the longest time. I was overjoyed when it arrived and matched my tree perfectly.

Gingerbread-Inspired Christmas Tree #christmas #tree #christmastree #gingerbread #decor #decoratings #diningroom #holiday #christmasdecor #ornament

I also scored this vintage spoon rack from House of Harvest. I think it looks perfect here on the wall adorned with some wooden spoons and coordinating ornaments.

And with that, my final tree of 2020 is complete. To my eye, it turned out wonderfully well! What do you think?

Gingerbread-Inspired Christmas Tree #christmas #tree #christmastree #gingerbread #decor #decoratings #diningroom #holiday #christmasdecor #ornament

As always, I hope you enjoyed another detailed look at one of my trees. I assume it’s a little late in the season for you recreate a similar look, but you can always use it as a springboard when planning for next year.

It’s been such a joy having you in my home all season and all year long. Merry Christmas, my friends!

Christmas is a magical season. It looks and feels even more magical in the evening when all the lights and candles are aglow. I couldn’t be more excited to welcome you back into my home for a look at my Christmas Nights at Bayberry House.

Christmas Nights at Bayberry House #christmas #decor #christmaslights #lights #holiday #decorating #ideas #home #hometour

A couple of years ago I did a Christmas Nights Tour here on Inspired by Charm. It’s such a fun tour as the images, being photographed at night, are illumined with the glow and magic of the Christmas season. This tour is especially exciting as I’m being joined by many of my blogger friends. This tour is hosted by Rachel of Maison de Pax who is the first house on the tour. If you’re stopping over from her home, welcome! If this happens to be your first stop on the tour, no worries, I’ve included links to all of the stunning homes at the end of this post.

For this particular post, I’d like to do things a little differently. Typically, when I share a tour, I narrate my styling, explain every detail, share links, etc. However, something about this post begs me to be quiet thus allowing you to enjoy all that is calm and all that is bright.

My Entryway Christmas Decor #entryway #christmas #decor #decorating #holiday #entrywaydecor #christmasdecor #stocking #garland

Welcome back to Christmas at Bayberry House. I couldn’t be more delighted to give you a tour around another area of my holiday home. Today, I’m sharing my entryway Christmas decor and showing you how I created a festive welcome for all that enter.

My Entryway Christmas Decor #entryway #christmas #decor #decorating #holiday #entrywaydecor #christmasdecor #stocking #garland

Sharing my entryway Christmas decor is especially exciting this year as my walls have a new paint color and I have an all-new custom cabinetry closet and bench. (Details on that HERE.)

This past fall I had some stunning custom cabinetry installed after tearing out a built-in closet during my kitchen renovation last year. This is the first time I’ve really been able to decorate this new space and I couldn’t be more pleased with how it all came together.

The fun part about my entryway is that when you are standing in it, you can see into my family room, living room, and my kitchen. So, as part of my little entryway Christmas decor tour, you’re going to get a little sneak peek at some of my other spaces too. I’ve blogged about most of these rooms, so I’ll be sure to share a link to those spaces so you can see more.

Let me show you around!

My Entryway Christmas Decor:

We’ll start with this view, which is one of my favorites. (I’m going to be saying that a lot because basically every view into and beyond this room makes me giddy.)

My Entryway Christmas Decor #entryway #christmas #decor #decorating #holiday #entrywaydecor #christmasdecor #stocking #garland

I actually shared this photo on Instagram several weeks ago and it quickly became the most liked photo I’ve ever shared. Ever! It’s pretty incredible.

In this photo, my front door is on the left, my family room (with the big brick fireplace) is in front of me, my kitchen is to the right, and my living room is behind me.

My Entryway Christmas Decor #entryway #christmas #decor #decorating #holiday #entrywaydecor #christmasdecor #stocking #garland

My Entryway Christmas Decor #entryway #christmas #decor #decorating #holiday #entrywaydecor #christmasdecor #stocking #garland

I chose the place for my Red and White Christmas Tree here in my family room because of the sight line from my entryway. I love that you can see the tree right away when you enter my house. In fact, you can see both of my trees from the entryway.

On the banister I added a traditional-meets-modern garland. While this styling may look complicated, it’s actually really easy to do. My secret is the ornament garland HERE.

My Entryway Christmas Decor #entryway #christmas #decor #decorating #holiday #entrywaydecor #christmasdecor #stocking #garland

It’s simple to style, just add a pine garland first, then weave in the ornament garland. It’s such a simple way to get a really dynamic look. To finish it off, I added in a string of lights and a few oversized pinecones.

I use these garland ties to attach my garland to my banister. I’ve been using them for years and they work like a dream!

My Entryway Christmas Decor #entryway #christmas #decor #decorating #holiday #entrywaydecor #christmasdecor #stocking #garland

Just behind the banister, heading up the stairs, you’ll see I started a little gallery wall. It’s nothing perfect and I’d like to continue it up the stairs, but I’m loving how it looks so far. It was one of those projects that I was putting off and then one random Tuesday afternoon I just got it done. No thinking, just doing.

From this view you can also get a peek at my Christmas ribbon cabinet. This has become one of my favorite things to decorate. So much so that I wrote an entire post about it HERE.

Next to the front door I hung a mirror and added a festive wreath to it. Below that, I have a small chair topped with this vintage Christmas grain sack pillow I got from Fabric Scout Studio. I love her work!

On the opposite side of the entryway, I have my “formal” living room. I wrote a couple posts about this space including a detailed look at my Christmas tree HERE and a tour of my new living room mantel and custom cabinetry HERE.

On the opposite side of the door I have this fabulous lettering artwork from Lindsay Letters. It’s called “Welcome Here Manifesto” and I just love the message it offers to all that enter my home. All are welcomed here.

And now for the main feature of my entryway: my new cabinetry!

My Entryway Christmas Decor #entryway #christmas #decor #decorating #holiday #entrywaydecor #christmasdecor #stocking #garland

I was so excited to get this all styled for Christmas and couldn’t be more pleased with how it all came together. I actually had some fun Halloween / fall ideas for this space, but then life happened and it just wasn’t meant to be. Next year!

I took inspiration from my butler’s pantry and the slight green tone in this cabinetry. I knew a pop of bold Christmas red would be the perfect addition. I was right. … or at least I think so!

(You can find details on all the paint colors I’ve used in my home via this post HERE.)

On the shelf, I started with a base of faux greens and lights. I then added in a felt ball garland, tucked in a few glass trees, and finished it off with some vintage tins. One of the tins is from Fabric Scout Studio, and the other is a Scotch tape tin that I just barely won in a heated eBay auction. It’s supposedly pretty rare and I got it for a steal.

My Entryway Christmas Decor #entryway #christmas #decor #decorating #holiday #entrywaydecor #christmasdecor #stocking #garland

Below that I hung some knit stockings. These are new, but I love that they have that vintage look and feel. (The knit ones are sold out. The quilted one is another Fabric Scout Studio find!)

On the bench I added a new French mattress style cushion which I got made HERE. I adore it and think it’s the perfect style for this bench.

To that, I added in a couple pillows, (the tree pillow is sold out everywhere, but you can find the pinecone pillow HERE), a vintage woodgrain thermos, and a few wrapped gifts.

My Entryway Christmas Decor #entryway #christmas #decor #decorating #holiday #entrywaydecor #christmasdecor #stocking #garland

Speaking of wrapped gifts, I tucked a few next to my staircase too. Yes, I’m still obsessed with plaid wrapping paper. However, this year I tried something new with my ribbon. I used this stunning linen ribbon from Tidbits Linen. It’s gorgeous and I just love how it looks on my packages.

And with my gifts wrapped, I’d say my entryway is ready for Christmas, wouldn’t you?

Oh, and I forgot to mention, from this angle, you can see into my kitchen. If you missed it, last week I shared a little tour of this space all decorated for Christmas. You can find that HERE.

Creative DIY Gingerbread Decor Ideas #christmas #gingerbread #holiday #decor #diy #cookies #gingerbreadcookie #decorating

From wreaths to ornaments, I’m sharing creative DIY gingerbread decor ideas that you can use to dress up your home for the holiday and winter season.

Creative DIY Gingerbread Decor Ideas

When it comes to Christmas and the holiday season, gingerbread is a classic. Not only is it delicious, but it can be a beautiful decorative item that you can use in many ways throughout your home. How do I know? I’ve done it.

After perfecting my gingerbread cookie recipe back in 2019, I’ve been having so much fun playing and experimenting with new gingerbread decor ideas. With a handful of fabulous and unique ideas, I thought I would create this post in the hope of inspiring you to give decorating with gingerbread a try.

To get started, you’re going to need my gingerbread cookie recipe. You can find the recipe HERE.

I also wanted to mention that I have yet to save any of these gingerbread decorations from year to year. However, I’m going to give it a try this year and see how they fair after a year. I’m hopeful they will look just as good! I’ll be sure to update this post with my findings.

Looking for gingerbread recipes you can eat? I have those too!

Check out my favorite Gingerbread recipes to spice up the holiday season HERE.

Gingerbread Cookie Ornaments:

Let’s start with the basics: ornaments. This is one of my favorite uses. In fact, this year I decorated a small, 4 foot tree in my dining room and decked it out with these gingerbread cookie ornaments. (I’ve included a few pictures here, but I’ll be sure to share more once I photograph it and get it on the blog.)

To make the hole at the top of the ornament, I just used a metal straw. It’s the perfect size. Just press the bottom of the straw into the top of your ornament before baking and then you’ll have a hole in your gingerbread ornament so you can hang it on your tree with an ornament hook, ribbon, or twine.

I love the homemade and rustic look these gingerbread ornaments add to your tree. You can choose any cookie cutter shape and even dye your royal icing a color to match your decor. The options are nearly endless. They also smell wonderful on your tree.

Gingerbread Garland Accessories:

Now that you have your gingerbread ornaments made, you can use them in a variety of ways around your home. Here, I added a couple ornaments near the ends of the garland I hung on my living room mantel.

Festive Ideas and Inspiration for Living Room Christmas Decor #christmas #holiday #decor #decorating #ideas #livingroom #mantel #christmastree

It’s all about the details and I think these gingerbread cookies add such a special touch to this garland.

To hang them, I just strung some twine through the hole I created before baking and thus was able to tie them to one of the branches. It’s a really easy way to add a custom and personal touch to a garland. You can see more of this garland in my living room tour HERE.

Gingerbread Cookie Gift Embellishment:

Another look I love, is to use these cookies as gift wrapping embellishments. Again, just like you did with the ornaments, add a little hole to the top of your cookie and you’re ready to tie these onto a gift for the perfect finishing touch.

Delicious and festive Gingerbread Cookies! #christmas #cookies #gingerbread

I just use a piece of baker’s twine to attach a cookie to my gift. It’s that simple and the gift wrapping looks like it came from the pages of a magazine.

Gingerbread Cookie Wreath:

Here, I took my gingerbread cookies and glued them to a round wreath hoop to create this fabulous Gingerbread Cookie Wreath. It’s one of my new favorites.

In fact, I wrote an entire blog post about this project which you can find HERE.

I think this is such a unique and special wreath idea. As you can see, I tried it in a few places throughout my home. It looks fabulous no matter where I put it.

More Gingerbread Decor Ideas

Gingerbread House Cake:

These gingerbread cakes are temporary gingerbread decor, but I had to include them on this list.

This Gingerbread House Gingerbread Cake is the perfect holiday treat! #dessert #holiday #christmas #gingerbread #recipe

I made these festive gingerbread cakes a fews years ago and I still look back at them fondly. I think they turned out so beautiful. And while I made these cakes to eat, you could certainly bake them and use them solely as decor if you’d like. I wouldn’t recommend keeping them for more than one season, but they would be stunning on a holiday buffet.

This Gingerbread House Gingerbread Cake is the perfect holiday treat! #dessert #holiday #christmas #gingerbread #recipe

They are really easy to make too as you use a special cake pan that’s shaped like the houses. Just bake and decorate. You can find the recipe and more details on these HERE.

Tiered Cookie Tray:

Again, I’m not sure if this classifies as decor, but I wanted to include this idea on this list. I recently shared a tour of my kitchen decorated for Christmas and one of my displays was this stunning tiered tray (which I made out of cake stands) full of sweet treats and cookies. As you can see, a few of my gingerbread cookies made the display.

Festive Christmas Kitchen Decor Ideas #christmas #kitchen #decor #decorating #ideas #holiday

While this display will hopefully be temporary as guests enjoy all the cookies and treats, I think it makes a gorgeous centerpiece for your kitchen island or dining room table.

Besides, who doesn’t love decor that does double duty. It’s a grand display and a festive snack. You can see more of this in my kitchen HERE.

Gingerbread House Cup Hugger:

I have been wanting to make these for years and I finally did it!

Creative DIY Gingerbread Decor Ideas #christmas #gingerbread #holiday #decor #diy #cookies #gingerbreadcookie #decorating Creative DIY Gingerbread Decor Ideas #christmas #gingerbread #holiday #decor #diy #cookies #gingerbreadcookie #decorating #mughugger

You can easily create these gingerbread house cup huggers using a cookie cutter like THIS ONE. All you do is cut out two of each piece and then assemble them using royal icing.

The doors on the house create a little indent that “hugs” the side of a mug. Are they not the cutest?

As you can see, I created a handful of them and I decorated each one in it’s own unique way.

If you want to keep these as an edible treat, I recommend storing them in an airtight container. If you want them to be a more decorative item, then no storage is required.

Gingerbread “Snow Globe” Village:

If you like those gingerbread house cup huggers as much as I do, then you’re going to love this project too.

I decided to create a gingerbread “snow globe” village using one of those little houses and a forest of decorated gingerbread trees.

Creative DIY Gingerbread Decor Ideas #christmas #gingerbread #holiday #decor #diy #cookies #gingerbreadcookie #decorating Creative DIY Gingerbread Decor Ideas #christmas #gingerbread #holiday #decor #diy #cookies #gingerbreadcookie #decorating #village

Creative DIY Gingerbread Decor Ideas #christmas #gingerbread #holiday #decor #diy #cookies #gingerbreadcookie #decorating Creative DIY Gingerbread Decor Ideas #christmas #gingerbread #holiday #decor #diy #cookies #gingerbreadcookie #decorating #village

I assembled everything in this vintage glass cake plate and dome to create what may be one of my favorite decorations.

To attach the trees to the plate, I just used a bit of royal icing. It does take some time to harden, so you’ll need to prop the trees up with something while the icing dries.

Creative DIY Gingerbread Decor Ideas #christmas #gingerbread #holiday #decor #diy #cookies #gingerbreadcookie #decorating Creative DIY Gingerbread Decor Ideas #christmas #gingerbread #holiday #decor #diy #cookies #gingerbreadcookie #decorating #village

With the trees in place, I used granulated sugar around the base as “snow” and then tucked in one of my houses and two little gingerbread people. (The gingerbread people are sugar cake decorations I found at the craft store.)

The resulting gingerbread “snow globe” village became the perfect centerpiece to decorate the sideboard in my dining room. I’m obsessed with the look.

Bonus – Gingerbread Cookies:

I wanted to include this as a final little note. While I shared my gingerbread cookie recipe above, I wanted to mention it again here at the end of this list.

In fact, this year, I even took my classic gingerbread cookie recipe to the next level by adding detailing as I decorated them with royal icing. Let me show you.

Classic Gingerbread Cookies:

You can find my classic gingerbread cookie recipe HERE. Have fun with the wide variety of cookie cutter shapes that are available and the many creative options that you have when piping on the icing. It can be such a fun process. Make it your own.

Decorated Gingerbread Cookies:

Here, I made my classic recipe, but cut out the cookies a bit thicker and then covered the top with a really decorative piping.

Christmas Tree Gingerbread Cookies #christmas #gingerbread #cookies #gingerbreadcookies #holiday #holidaybaking #recipe #royalicing

This was only my second time piping cookies with royal icing, but I so enjoyed the process. In fact, I even made some adorable mushroom cookies which you can find HERE.

Christmas Tree Gingerbread Cookies #christmas #gingerbread #cookies #gingerbreadcookies #holiday #holidaybaking #recipe #royalicing

This style of cookie decorating does take time and patience, but I think it is so much fun!

That’s a Wrap on DIY Gingerbread Decor Ideas:

And that’s a wrap on my gingerbread decor ideas. As you can hopefully tell, I’ve been having so much fun baking and decorating with this classic recipe.

I’m certain that I will come up with a few more ideas next Christmas. I’ll be sure to update this post when I do.

As always, I hope this was helpful and gave you a few new ideas on how you can incoporate gingerbread decor into your home.

Happy Decorating!

It doesn’t get any cuter than these cookies. I’ve taken my classic gingerbread cookie recipe and turned it into these festive, colorful, and wonderfully delicious Christmas Tree Gingerbread Cookies. You’re in for a TREEat. (See what I did there? Ha!)

Christmas Tree Gingerbread Cookies #christmas #gingerbread #cookies #gingerbreadcookies #holiday #holidaybaking #recipe #royalicing

Christmas Tree Gingerbread Cookies:

Honestly, I had no big plans of sharing this Christmas Tree Gingerbread Cookie recipe with all of you. Last week I had already made and shared my mushroom cookies with you. I had so much fun making those cookies (it was oddly therapeutic) that I decided to make a tree version using my gingerbread cookie recipe. I was just going to make these cookies as a treat for family and friends, but since they turned out so cute, I couldn’t resist sharing them.

In fact, I didn’t even do my typical recipe photo shoot, so there are not a lot of pictures and there are no in-process photos of me making these. But, hopefully you get the general idea. You can check out my Mushroom Cookies HERE and my Gingerbread Cookies HERE if you want some helpful images.

Christmas Tree Gingerbread Cookies #christmas #gingerbread #cookies #gingerbreadcookies #holiday #holidaybaking #recipe #royalicing

Beyond that, these cookies are just the cutest and my goodness are they ever delicious. I’ve been having such a love affair with gingerbread lately. It’s quickly moving to the top of my list of favorite flavors.

If you’re looking for more of my favorite Christmas cookie recipes, I have an entire blog post dedicated to them. You can find that HERE. There are so many good recipes you’re going to want to try.

I also need to give a shout-out to Holly Fox (@hol_fox) on Instagram for the design of these cookies. Since I’m new to decorating cookies with royal icing, I googled inspiration and found one of her images and fell in love with it. She created trees like these in three different color palettes and they are STUNNING. She also sells a Christmas tree cookie cutter just like the one I used here. You can find them in her Etsy shop HERE. Thank you for the inspiration Holly!!

Christmas Tree Gingerbread Cookies #christmas #gingerbread #cookies #gingerbreadcookies #holiday #holidaybaking #recipe #royalicing

One thing I wanted to mention before I walk you through the recipe is that royal icing can be tricky. It requires a lot of time, patience, and some general knowledge of the right consistency.

If you’re a novice baker and want to tackle this recipe, be sure to set aside some time and a lot of patience to play and practice.

With that being said, once I figured out the right constancy, I found the process of piping the icing to be so much fun and I just love how it looks. It does take time, but for me it was time well spent.

Okay, now on to the recipe!

Christmas Tree Gingerbread Cookies #christmas #gingerbread #cookies #gingerbreadcookies #holiday #holidaybaking #recipe #royalicing

How to make Christmas Tree Gingerbread Cookies:

In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, ginger, cinnamon, baking soda, cloves, and salt. Set aside.

In the large bowl of an electric mixer, cream together the butter and brown sugar for 3-4 minutes or until light and fluffy. Add the egg, molasses, and vanilla. Mix to combine.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients. Mix to combine. Cover and refrigerate the dough overnight or for at least 4 hours.

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Divide the chilled dough in two. On a lightly floured surface, roll out half of the dough so it is about 1/4 to 1/2-inch thick. Cut out desired shapes with cookie cutters. Place the shapes about 1-inch apart on a cookie sheet. Place the baking sheet of cookies into the freezer for about five minutes.

Delicious and festive Gingerbread Cookies! #christmas #cookies #gingerbread

Remove the cookies from the freezer and bake 9-11 minutes or until the edges of the cookies barely start to brown. Cool for 30-60 seconds on the cookie sheet. Then transfer the cookies to cooling racks to cool completely.

Repeat with the remaining dough.

While the cookies cool, prepare the royal icing.

Add the confectioners’ sugar and meringue powder to the bowl of a stand mixer. (You can also use a hand mixer.) Whisk to combine.

With the mixer on low, add one tablespoon of warm water at a time. Once all six tablespoons have been added, add in the corn syrup.

Continue to mix on low-medium speed adding more warm water, one tablespoon at a time, to achieve the desired consistency. The ideal consistency is something that is a bit thicker than corn syrup.*

Divide the icing into four separate bowls. Add food coloring to each of the bowls (except for one) to achieve the desired color. I used teal and green.

Transfer the icing to a piping bag or piping bottle. You can find the piping bottles I used HERE.

Christmas Tree Gingerbread Cookies #christmas #gingerbread #cookies #gingerbreadcookies #holiday #holidaybaking #recipe #royalicing

For the dotted trees, pipe the colored icing onto the cookies first and then immediately add the white dots. Once that has hardened you can add the white tree trunk.

For the trees with the garland / lights, pipe the colored icing onto the cookies first. Let it harden, then add the garland and white tree trunk.

Allow the icing to completely harden. Then pack and store these cookies in an airtight container.

It doesn't get any cuter than these cookies. I've taken my classic gingerbread cookie recipe and turned it into these festive, colorful, and wonderfully delicious Christmas Tree Gingerbread Cookies.

Ingredients

Gingerbread Cookies:
Royal Icing:
  • 4 cups confectioners' sugar
  • 3 tablespoons meringue powder
  • 6 tablespoons warm water - to start, plus 4-6 more
  • 1 tablespoon corn syrup
  • teal and green gel food coloring

Instructions

  • In the large bowl of an electric mixer, cream together the butter and brown sugar for 3-4 minutes or until light and fluffy. Add the egg, molasses, and vanilla. Mix to combine.

  • For the trees with the garland / lights. Pipe the colored icing onto the cookies first. Let it harden, then add the garland and white tree trunk.
  • Allow the icing to completely harden. Then pack and store these cookies in an airtight container.

Notes

*Making "proper" royal icing takes time and practice. You need to get a feel for it to know the consistency you need. It took me 30 minutes to figure it out and I still needed to adjust things. Have patience and take your time.
*You can find the icing bottles I used HERE.
*Yield size will vary on the size and thickness of your cookie. For this particular size cookie, I made a bit over 4 dozen cookies.

I’m overjoyed to welcome you back into my home to share some ideas for a festive Christmas kitchen decor!

Festive Christmas Kitchen Decor Ideas #christmas #kitchen #decor #decorating #ideas #holiday

Festive Christmas Kitchen Decor Ideas

I had no intention of doing a kitchen tour this holiday season (I shared one last year), but I recently put together a post for a brand and I was so pleased with how it turned out that I couldn’t resist showing you my 2020 Christmas kitchen decor.

Yes, much of it looks very similar to last year, but I did add some new and unique touches. Plus, I figured that some of you wouldn’t mind a look around again and I assume some of you may have never even seen my kitchen before.

Also, if you’re new here, I wanted to mention that in 2019 I completed a major kitchen remodel and wrote a whole blog post about it. So, if you have questions about anything you see in this space (that’s not Christmas related) it’s likely that you’ll find the answer or source in this blog post HERE. I hope it’s helpful in answering any questions you may have.

And with that being said, let me show you around.

1. Create a Display of Treats

While Christmas may be a little different this year, typically I recommend having a little display of cookies and treats out for guests.

Speaking of … If you’re looking for my favorite Christmas cookie recipes, I have a blog post dedicated to them. You can find that HERE.

Here on my peninsula I set up this tiered tray of delicious and festive holiday treats. I wanted to go vertical and didn’t have an actual tiered tray, so instead, I stacked together three different sizes of cake stands to create the same look.

I also decided to use these sturdy cardboard cupcake liners as “plates.” Guests can grab one of these liners and fill it up with treats from the display.

With a bouquet of flowers in coordinating colors added to the mix, I think this turned out wonderfully well.

2. Decorate with Greens

Last year I decided to hang some small wreaths, that I found at a local Christmas store, on my kitchen windows. I loved the look so much that I repeated it this year. I used some small clear Command hooks to hang the wreaths and then added a red ribbon.

I found a garland that matched the wreaths, so I decided to add that to the ledge on my range hood. I love the look.

My wreaths and garland are faux as I need them to last a for a long time as I start decorating pretty early and my forced air heat tends to dry things out quickly. However, you could easily create the same look with real greens if you prefer.

3. Add a Mini Tree

Speaking of greens, I also decided to add a small Christmas tree to my kitchen as well.

This wasn’t planned, but I stumbled upon this amazing tree at a local floral shop and had to bring it home. I wasn’t sure where I was going to put it, but as I was trying it out in a few areas around my home, when I set it here, I knew I had a winner.

Festive Christmas Kitchen Decor Ideas #christmas #kitchen #decor #decorating #ideas #holiday

Back in the fall, I picked up this large pitcher bowl which became the perfect nesting place for my new tree.

To hide the base of the tree, I filled the pitcher with vintage ornaments.

Naturally the tree needed a little holiday decor, so I wrapped it with some mini lights, added some linen ribbon (from the fabulous Tidbits Linen) and then used vintage cookie cutters as ornaments. I have a collection of little cookie cutters, so it was the perfect use for them.

And with that my kitchen Christmas tree was complete! It’s the cutest!

4. Create a Hot Cocoa Station

One of my favorite little moments in my kitchen is my hot cocoa station. This look is really easy to replicate and can take up as much or as little space as you’d like.

I kept things really small and simple, taking up just a small area on my countertop. I love things that are pretty and functional.

I used a cutting board as a base for the display and then added in my homemade hot cocoa mix (you can get the recipe HERE), some mini marshmallows, peppermint sticks, a set of seasonal dishes, and my favorite vintage metal thermos.

DIY Bottle Brush Drink Stirrers #drink #stir #stirrer #christmas #holiday #bottlebrush #bottlebrushtree #cocktail #hotcocoa #hotchocolate

What I love about this is that I can easily move the whole display onto my worktable or peninsula when I need it for entertaining.

5. Craft Seasonal DIY Decorations

I also added a few seasonal DIY decorations to my kitchen to add an extra special personal touch. One of the projects I’ve already shared with you: my DIY bottle brush tree drink stirrers.

DIY Bottle Brush Drink Stirrers #drink #stir #stirrer #christmas #holiday #bottlebrush #bottlebrushtree #cocktail #hotcocoa #hotchocolate

Again, I love these because they are both functional and decorative. You could add these to your hot cocoa bar, coffee station, or even a cocktail bar / bar cart. They are so simple to make and add such a festive touch to any beverage you are serving. Get the tutorial HERE.

And speaking of cocktails, if you’re looking for some new libations to try this year, I have a collection of amazing holiday cocktail recipes. You can find that HERE.

Even though the next DIY item might look familiar to some of you veteran IBC readers, it was actually made by my mom last year as a Christmas present for me.

Festive Christmas Kitchen Decor Ideas #christmas #kitchen #decor #decorating #ideas #holiday

It’s a marshmallow wreath!

The quick back story on this is that I made one of these for myself many years ago. (You can see it HERE in the kitchen of my previous home.) However, I made the mistake of storing it in my attic the first year I lived in my current home. The heat from the attic melted the marshmallows on my beautiful wreath into one big misshapen blob. After hearing this, my Mom was kind and thoughtful enough to craft another one for me.

The wreath is now proudly hung on the door to my basement. I don’t have a tutorial for this item . If you’d like one, let me know and I’ll put one together for you.

6. Style your Pantry

At the start of the holiday season I wrote an entire blog post dedicated to my butler’s pantry which I styled for the season. I’ll give you a little peek at how the space looks, and if you want to see more, head on over to this post HERE for all of the details.

DIY Gingerbread Cookie Wreath #christmas #holiday #wreath #gingerbread #cookies #gingerbreadcookies #craft #christmasdecor

Inspired by a Scandinavian design, I’m showing you how to craft a wreath out of gingerbread cookies. This DIY Gingerbread Cookie Wreath is a beautiful project that will certainly add a festive touch to your holiday home.

DIY Gingerbread Cookie Wreath

I’m thrilled to be bringing you another fun and festive DIY project to add something special and unique to your Christmas decorating. I was actually inspired to make this Gingerbread Cookie Wreath after seeing the idea on one of my favorite instagram accounts: @vibekedesign. As soon as I saw this stunning wreath hanging in Vibeke’s home, I knew I had to make one. I adore her account by the way. If you’re not following her, do yourself a favor and check out her account.

Based on the pictures she shared of her wreath, the design seemed pretty straightforward.

DIY Gingerbread Cookie Wreath #christmas #holiday #wreath #gingerbread #cookies #gingerbreadcookies #craft #christmasdecor

As you might remember, last year I shared my recipe for gingerbread cookies (which you can find here). I whipped up a batch of these gingerbread cookies for the wreath and the rest of the items I either had on hand or ordered online.

Once the cookies were baked and iced, this Gingerbread Cookie Wreath took no time to assemble. I think the results are beyond cute.

DIY Gingerbread Cookie Wreath #christmas #holiday #wreath #gingerbread #cookies #gingerbreadcookies #craft #christmasdecor

As you can see, I have the wreath hanging on the French doors in my dining room. Because the doors are mostly windows, the wreath was a little bit challenging to photograph. Therefore, I moved the wreath to the cabinet in my living room for a moment to capture a few more photos. This also gives you the opportunity to see the wreath used in a different way.

DIY Gingerbread Cookie Wreath #christmas #holiday #wreath #gingerbread #cookies #gingerbreadcookies #craft #christmasdecor

DIY Gingerbread Cookie Wreath #christmas #holiday #wreath #gingerbread #cookies #gingerbreadcookies #craft #christmasdecor

While I think the wreath looks wonderful in both locations, I’m keeping it in my dining room as I have a little gingerbread theme going on in there. I added some extra gingerbread cookies to a tree I have tucked in the corner and I even made some gingerbread cookie trees to create a little “snowglobe” in a cake stand. You can get a sneak peek of what it looks like on my Instagram account HERE.

While I assume this Gingerbread Cookie Wreath project might seem straight forward to some, let me walk you through the steps I took to create it.

DIY Gingerbread Cookie Wreath #christmas #holiday #wreath #gingerbread #cookies #gingerbreadcookies #craft #christmasdecor

How to Make a Gingerbread Cookie Wreath:

For this project you will need:

  • gingerbread cookies (you can find my recipe HERE)
  • 19″ round wreath hoop painted black (or whatever color you prefer)
  • faux pine branches
  • twine
  • hot glue gun

First, start by baking your gingerbread cookies. Again, you can get the full recipe HERE along with the royal icing recipe. I stuck with different snowflakes and stars for my wreath, but you can use whatever shapes you like. I did purchase THIS cookie cutter set and then used other cookie cutters that I had on hand.

DIY Gingerbread Cookie Wreath #christmas #holiday #wreath #gingerbread #cookies #gingerbreadcookies #craft #christmasdecor

Once your cookies are baked and the icing has fully hardened (let them sit out overnight), you are ready to assemble your wreath.

I used the wreath hoop that I linked above and spray painted it black.

To attach the the cookies to the wreath, I added a dab of hot glue to the back of each cookie as I positioned it where I wanted it on the wreath hoop. Just hold the cookie in place until the glue hardens.

DIY Gingerbread Cookie Wreath #christmas #holiday #wreath #gingerbread #cookies #gingerbreadcookies #craft #christmasdecor

Once all the cookies were attached to the front, I carefully flipped the wreath over and added more hot glue where the back of each cookie met the wreath hoop to ensure each cookie was fully secured.

DIY Gingerbread Cookie Wreath #christmas #holiday #wreath #gingerbread #cookies #gingerbreadcookies #craft #christmasdecor

With all the cookies in place and the wreath still face down, I snipped several pieces of faux pine (approx. 6 inches in length) from a garland and attached them to the back of the cookies with more hot glue. In keeping with the Scandinavian design, I kept things sparse, but did add the pine all around the wreath.

DIY Gingerbread Cookie Wreath #christmas #holiday #wreath #gingerbread #cookies #gingerbreadcookies #craft #christmasdecor

As a finishing touch, I added three more gingerbread cookies to the center of the wreath. I attached them using some twine which I tied to the top of the wreath hoop.

DIY Gingerbread Cookie Wreath #christmas #holiday #wreath #gingerbread #cookies #gingerbreadcookies #craft #christmasdecor

And with that, my gingerbread cookie wreath was complete!

To hang the wreath on my French doors, I added a Command hook to each door, right where they meet. The wreath will need to be moved if I want to access the doors, but I don’t use these doors much in the winter, so it shouldn’t be a problem.

DIY Gingerbread Cookie Wreath #christmas #holiday #wreath #gingerbread #cookies #gingerbreadcookies #craft #christmasdecor

All in all, I couldn’t be more pleased with how this came together. I need to give another shout-out to Vibeke as this project was fully inspired by her beautiful creation.

While I followed her design closely, you could really have fun with this and create something to match your home or style. You could even have fun with different color frostings or cookie cutter shapes.

Orange-Almond Mushroom Sugar Cookies

I know we are knee-deep into the Christmas season and you’re probably thinking, “Michael, mushrooms aren’t very Christmassy.” Well my friends, I’m here to tell you otherwise. If you’ve been following along, you’ll know that I decorated a Christmas tree in my family room in the colors of red and white. I also filled it with dozens of whimsical mushroom ornaments. They are pretty special. So in my world, mushroom cookies are totally Christmas.

(If you’re looking for even more Christmas cookie recipes, I have you covered. I have an entire post dedicated to my favorites. You can find that HERE.)

#GoodCheerSquad

I also wanted to make something fun and different in an effort to spread some good cheer! As you know, 2020 has been one heck of a year, so if I can do something … anything … to make someone smile, I’m in. That’s why I’ve teamed up with some blogger friends of mine to create the #GoodCheerSquad. Each of us is sharing a fun and festive idea to help spread some good cheer. I chose mushroom cookies! We are also putting our money where our mouth is and helping out a cause or person dear to our hearts.

This season I’ve made a donation to Foster Cat which is a Pittsburgh based non-profit dedicated to the proposition that all cats deserve safe, loving, and permanent homes. I also made a separate donation to the gentleman that fostered my new kitty (you can meet him at the end of this post HERE), so that he can continue his work in fostering and feeding stray cats.

My blogger friends and I would love to have you join us in spreading some good cheer this holiday season and beyond! If you do jump aboard, feel free to tag us and use the hashtag #GoodCheerSquad on Instagram. Even the smallest of acts can make a big difference. Making Orange-Almond Mushroom Sugar Cookies:

I have to tell you how much fun I had making these cookies. This was the first time I’ve ever used royal icing to decorate a cut-out sugar cookie. I was a bit intimidated, but once I got the swing of things, I really enjoyed myself.

With that being said, royal icing can be tricky to master. You need just the right consistency for things to flow and to get a smooth cookie. If you’re a novice baker, set aside a good chunk of time when you dive into this recipe. You’ll need it, along with a good dose of patience.

Orange-Almond Sugar Cookies #mushroom #cookie #christmas #holiday #recipe #sugarcookie #cutout #royalicing #orangealmond

Also, a shout-out to my friend Glory for this recipe, her fabulous tips and her encouragement. These Orange-Almond Mushroom Sugar Cookies wouldn’t have been possible without her. She made some of these cookies for me last year and I went crazy over the orange / almond flavor combination. It’s ridiculous in the best way possible.

I’m going to walk you through the recipe now and share some tips along the way. You can find the full ingredient list and instructions in the printable recipe card at the end of this post.

How to Make Orange-Almond Mushroom Sugar Cookies:

Begin by preheating your oven to 350 degrees F.

In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.

To the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, add the butter and sugar. Beat on medium until light and fluffy: about 3 minutes. I really recommend a stand mixer for this as it’s a sturdy dough to beat.

Next, add the egg, zest from one orange, almond extract, and vanilla extract. Beat for another 1-2 minutes to combine; scraping down the sides of the bowl as necessary.

Orange-Almond Sugar Cookies #mushroom #cookie #christmas #holiday #recipe #sugarcookie #cutout #royalicing #orangealmond

Now, add the flour mixture to the butter mixture in thirds. Start with your mixer on low, then speed up to combine. Continue adding and mixing until all of the flour is incorporated.

The dough will seem crumbly. This is normal. You’ll know the dough is ready when it starts pulling away from the side of the bowl and the bowl looks clean. Remove the bowl and knead the do ughwith your hands to fully combine and form into a ball.

Orange-Almond Sugar Cookies #mushroom #cookie #christmas #holiday #recipe #sugarcookie #cutout #royalicing #orangealmond

Take half of the dough and roll it out onto a lightly floured surface. Roll out to 1/4 to 1/2 inch in thickness. Then cut out your cookies into the desired shapes and place them onto an ungreased cookie sheet. Place the baking sheet of cookies into the freezer for about five minutes.

Orange-Almond Sugar Cookies #mushroom #cookie #christmas #holiday #recipe #sugarcookie #cutout #royalicing #orangealmond

Orange-Almond Sugar Cookies #mushroom #cookie #christmas #holiday #recipe #sugarcookie #cutout #royalicing #orangealmond

If you’re looking for the exact mushroom cookie cutters I used, you can find them HERE.

Remove the baking sheet from the freezer and bake the cookies for 9-11 minutes. (The time will depend on the size and thickness of your cookies.)

Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for just about one minute. Then move them to a wire rack to finish cooling.

Orange-Almond Sugar Cookies #mushroom #cookie #christmas #holiday #recipe #sugarcookie #cutout #royalicing #orangealmond

In the meantime, let’s make some royal licing.

Add the confectioners’ sugar and meringue powder to the bowl of a stand mixer. (You can also use a hand mixer.) Whisk to combine.

With the mixer on low, add one tablespoon of warm water at a time. Once all six tablespoons have been added, add in the corn syrup.

Continue to mix on low-medium speed adding more warm water, one tablespoon at a time, until you have achieved the desired consistency. The ideal consistency is something that is a bit thicker than corn syrup. As I mentioned above, making “proper” royal icing takes time and practice. You need to get a feel for it in order to know the consistency you need. It took me 30 minutes to figure it out and I still needed to adjust things. Have patience and take your time.

Once you’ve reached the ideal consistency, remove half of the royal icing and place it into a separate bowl. Add food coloring to achieve the desired color. I used mostly red, with a very small touch of orange. (I really like this food coloring HERE. I have the set and it’s fabulous. It is pricey, but it included a ton of colors and has lasted me for years. )

Orange-Almond Sugar Cookies #mushroom #cookie #christmas #holiday #recipe #sugarcookie #cutout #royalicing #orangealmond

Transfer the icing to a piping bag or piping bottle. If you’re looking for the bottles I used, you can find them HERE. They worked wonderfully well! The tip is the perfect size for detail and flooding the cookie with icing.

Orange-Almond Sugar Cookies #mushroom #cookie #christmas #holiday #recipe #sugarcookie #cutout #royalicing #orangealmond

Pipe the red icing onto the cookies first. Let it harden, then move onto the white icing.

Allow the icing to completely harden. Then pack and store these cookies in an airtight container.

And that’s it. Your Orange-Almond Mushroom Sugar Cookies are complete and undoubtably looking as adorable as these mushroom cut-outs!

I think these are going to make the perfect addition to my Christmas cookie tray. Don’t you? They are so fun, unexpected, and crazy delicious. The orange / almond combination is off-the-chain yummy!

DIY Bottle Brush Drink Stirrers

Friends, this project has been years in the making. I’m honestly so happy to be finally sharing these DIY Bottle Brush Tree Drink Stirrers with you!

A little backstory….

I want to say it was 4 or 5 years ago that I found these bottle brush tree drink stirrers in the Dollar Spot at Target. I use them almost every year as a little decoration on my bar cart or when I’m styling a Christmas drink. No matter when I post a picture of them, I get dozens of requests for where I found them. As you probably know, when something is purchased from Target’s Dollar Spot, odds are you will never see it again. Such was the case with these adorable drink stirrers. They’ve never been sold again.

DIY Bottle Brush Drink Stirrers #drink #stir #stirrer #christmas #holiday #bottlebrush #bottlebrushtree #cocktail #hotcocoa #hotchocolate

Every year I tell myself that I’m going to create a DIY version of these stirrers and then Christmas slips by and so does the project. Well, this year I made it a point to make this project happen and I finally did! In fact, I even bought the supplies back in October so I was certain to get started and complete it.

Either way, I’m thrilled to share this insanely easy (and insanely adorable) project with you.

You only need four supplies and under 30 minutes to whip up the cutest holiday drink accessory in all of the land. When corralled in a small pitcher or glass, they even double as festive decor for your bar cart, holiday drink station, or hot cocoa bar.

Speaking of … if you need some holiday cocktail ideas, I have a blog post dedicated to my favorite recipes. You can find that HERE. I also have the most delicious hot cocoa mix recipe. It’s a must for your hot cocoa stations. You can find that HERE.

You can also find the Santa Mugs HERE.

As you will see in this post, I use these bottle brush drink stirrers for cocktails, hot cocoa, and everything in between. You can even toss one in Santa’s milk on Christmas Eve. He’ll be so impressed that you may even get an extra present or two under the tree!

So, without delay, let me show you how to make these.

Where to find 1-inch Bottle Brushs:

As with any craft, you’re going to need some supplies. Other than the sandpaper (which I had on hand), I found everything on Amazon. (I’ve linked everything in the supply list below.) However, I’m sure you could find these things at your local craft store too.

Before I share my list, I did want to mention that for the best look, you really need a particular size bottle brush tree. (They need to be 1-inch tall.) Many are too big. I actually purchased four different ones to find the best size. You can find the ones I used HERE.

UPDATE: It looks like the trees I used are sold out. They sell out every year and the 1″ size are really hare to find. I’m very sorry! Here are some alternatives:

  • THESE (Item #M6015GLS or Item #M6015G1) seem to be the best option. It looks like one has a gold base and one has a natural base.
  • THESE also look like a good option based on the description. Great price too.
  • THESE are the same brand, size, etc. as I used.
  • I found THESE. However they are 1.4-inches tall verse the 1-inch tall that I used.
  • You may also want to check in-store at Michael’s or Joanns.

With that being said, let’s craft!

DIY Bottle Brush Tree Drink Stirrers Tutorial:

For this project you will need: (each item is linked below)

You want to start by creating a flat surface on the ball of the lollipop stick. To do this, set a piece of 80 grit sandpaper on your table. Hold the ball end of the lollipop stick. Now keeping the stick straight up and down, rub the ball end against the sandpaper to create a flat surface.

DIY Bottle Brush Drink Stirrers #drink #stir #stirrer #christmas #holiday #bottlebrush #bottlebrushtree #cocktail #hotcocoa #hotchocolate

You don’t need to sand for very long: maybe 5-10 seconds. You can see in the image above that I only sanded away a bit to create that flat surface.

Next, after removing any excess dust, add a small drop of super glue to the sanded edge of the lollipop stick. Then, top with the wood base of your tree.

Hold it in place for about 20-30 seconds while keeping the tree and stick aligned as straight as possible.

DIY Bottle Brush Drink Stirrers #drink #stir #stirrer #christmas #holiday #bottlebrush #bottlebrushtree #cocktail #hotcocoa #hotchocolate

Voila! That’s it.

Yep. It’s honestly THAT simple. I had over 2 dozen of these made in under 30 minutes.

DIY Bottle Brush Drink Stirrers #drink #stir #stirrer #christmas #holiday #bottlebrush #bottlebrushtree #cocktail #hotcocoa #hotchocolate

They make any drink exponentially more Christmassy!

And, as you can see, the little collection of bottle brush tree drink stirrer looks so cute displayed on a counter. This way you have them ready for whenever a drink requires an extra special festive touch. They are just the cutest.

Welcome back to my Holiday Home! Today I’m inviting you back into my living room to show you my second Christmas tree of 2020. Grab a cup of tea or coffee, nestle in, and enjoy the tour.

2020 Living Room Christmas Tree

It’s always a fun day for me when I get to share one of my Christmas tree designs with you. If you can believe it, this is my 12th year of blogging during the Christmas season. It blows my mind. If you’ve been following along since then, you’ll know I’ve shared a newly designed tree (or often times two) every year. I put together a post HERE with 16+ of my best Christmas tree designs.

For the 2020 season, I have two new tree designs: My Red and White Christmas Tree, which I shared with you HERE, and today I’m back with my Living Room Christmas Tree. (Yes, I couldn’t really decide on a name for this one, so we’re going with 2020 Living Room Christmas Tree. So creative! Ha.)

Last week, you might have caught a teaser of my 2020 Living Room Christmas Tree design when I shared my mantel and bookcase decor. (You can see that HERE if you missed it.) And today I’m finally prepared for the big reveal. Without further suspense, let’s take a look!

I couldn’t be more pleased with how this tree came together and how beautifully it works in this space. It’s actually quite interesting because this was not the tree I had planned to do in this room.

Originally, I wanted to bring back my rainbow gradient tree while giving it a more traditional look. I tried and tried, but something in my gut told me it just wasn’t going to work in this space. I think I was right. So, I switched gears and this is what I came up with instead. I’m so glad I did.

Blue, Green, and White Living Room Christmas Tree #christmastree #christmas #holiday #tree #decor #decorating #livingroom #christmasdecor

I also wanted to make a quick note about sources and links for items on this particular tree.

Living Room Christmas Tree Sources:

Typically I get a lot of questions about where to find certain ornaments or decorative items. However, for this tree I don’t have many links to share with you. This tree came together with a lot of things I already had on hand or things that I found locally that aren’t available online. I will link whatever I can. If it’s not linked, it’s safe to assume I do not have a source.

Also, if you’re curious about my cabinetry / mantel decor you can check out this post HERE. You can’t see much of the living room, but if you’re looking for general living room sources / paint colors, check out the end of this post HERE. I hope that helps!

Living Room Christmas Tree Details:

After my failed attempt at the rainbow gradient tree, I pulled inspiration for my color palette from the artwork above my mantel which just so happens to work lovely with the rest of the room. I stuck with greens, blues, and aquas, and grounded everything with white, sliver, and just a touch of gold.

As I mentioned above, I used a lot of the ornaments I had on hand. The ribbon and the big white stars are new and I found them at a local store in Pittsburgh.

Blue, Green, and White Living Room Christmas Tree #christmastree #christmas #holiday #tree #decor #decorating #livingroom #christmasdecor

From there I added in large mercury glass ornaments that I tucked deep into the tree to create depth.

I wanted this tree to have a pop of color so I filled in sporadically with the green, blue, and aqua ornaments. A lot of these ornaments came from the navy blue tree I did several years back. (Yes, the actual tree branches were navy blue. It was so fun! Check it out HERE.)

Blue, Green, and White Living Room Christmas Tree #christmastree #christmas #holiday #tree #decor #decorating #livingroom #christmasdecor

When I shared my mantel decor last week, you could see I used a lot of pinecones in the design. Therefore, I decided to pull that same theme into the tree. I have a fairly large collection of glass pinecone ornaments (a lot them are from last year’s Woodland Glam tree), so I filled the tree with those. I even included mini versions of the large white-tipped pinecones used on my mantel. I just sat them on branches throughout the tree.

Blue, Green, and White Living Room Christmas Tree #christmastree #christmas #holiday #tree #decor #decorating #livingroom #christmasdecor

I also like to add a few quirky elements to my tree. This year I included a felt merman, because I thought he was just the cutest.

Blue, Green, and White Living Room Christmas Tree #christmastree #christmas #holiday #tree #decor #decorating #livingroom #christmasdecor

Blue, Green, and White Living Room Christmas Tree #christmastree #christmas #holiday #tree #decor #decorating #livingroom #christmasdecor

Although this tree is completely different from my Red and White Christmas Tree in the other room, I like to have some element that ties the two together. Did you notice which ornaments were the same?

I was in love with these beaded snowflake ornaments from Balsam Hill, so I decided to use them on both trees. Fun fact: When I went to order more for this tree they were sold out (and still are). For a solution to my problem, I decided to purchase the matching beaded snowflake garland, cut the snowflakes off of it, and then just use the snowflakes on the tree. I made it work!

Blue, Green, and White Living Room Christmas Tree #christmastree #christmas #holiday #tree #decor #decorating #livingroom #christmasdecor

My tree topper is new and it’s from CB2. It’s actually still in stock and reasonably priced. You can find it HERE.

Blue, Green, and White Living Room Christmas Tree #christmastree #christmas #holiday #tree #decor #decorating #livingroom #christmasdecor

Underneath the tree I used a chunky knit tree skirt which I found at HomeGoods last year. I also wrapped some faux presents to act as decor.

Blue, Green, and White Living Room Christmas Tree #christmastree #christmas #holiday #tree #decor #decorating #livingroom #christmasdecor

As per usual, I like to add some unexpected treasures under the tree. I’ve been loving picnic baskets under my tree, so I added in another one here. I also used a spool of chunky yarn and this vintage black lunch box that I found while antiquing earlier this year. I love how the black ties in with the hardware and lights on my bookcase.

I also wanted to share another fun feature of this Christmas Tree. This is the 7″ Silverado Slim Twinkly Light Show Tree from Balsam Hill. With this particular model I can control every single light on the tree from an app in my phone. You can also create light shows like twinkles, moving patterns, etc.

I often get asked how to decorate a tree with colored lights so I thought it would be fun to show you this tree as an example.

Blue, Green, and White Living Room Christmas Tree #christmastree #christmas #holiday #tree #decor #decorating #livingroom #christmasdecor

Here I’m using the “rainbow setting” from the app. The rainbow gradient slowly moves up and down the tree. It’s so fun! (It’s difficult to show the light show here, so be sure to follow me on Instagram HERE. I will be showing you how it works there.)

Blue, Green, and White Living Room Christmas Tree #christmastree #christmas #holiday #tree #decor #decorating #livingroom #christmasdecor

My answer on how to decorate a tree with colored lights is to do it the same way you’d decorate a tree with white lights. I’m traditionally a white lights person, but I think the colored lights in this tree are just as beautiful. You can see how beautiful the tree looks with white or colored lights. You do you!

And with the presents tucked under the tree, I’d say that’s a wrap on another Inspired by Charm Christmas Tree!!

Blue, Green, and White Living Room Christmas Tree #christmastree #christmas #holiday #tree #decor #decorating #livingroom #christmasdecor

As I mentioned above, it’s always such a joy to share my trees with you. I have to say that coming up with 2-3 new designs every year can be a bit much (not to mention expensive), but I know how many of you enjoy seeing something new every year, so I do it for YOU.

I sincerely hope you enjoy the design and that it inspires you to get creative and have fun with your own tree.

And as a final treat for you, meet Leo (aka Little One). He’s a new addition to my little fur family. I couldn’t be more excited to show him here.

This little spot on the back of the couch is one of his favorites so I couldn’t resist snapping a couple pictures. Bonus points to you if you happened to have spotted him hiding out in one of the posts above.

Regardless, I have lots more to share with you in the days leading up to Christmas, so be sure to check back often. If you want to be sure you don’t miss anything, you can subscribe to the Inspired by Charm Mailing List HERE.

Delicious and Easy Waldorf Salad #waldorfsalad #salad #recipe #sidedish #thanksgiving #christmas #holiday

Although delicious anytime of the year, Waldorf salad has been a holiday side dish in my family for as long as I can remember. Today, I’m sharing my family’s recipe for this “must have” holiday dish.

Delicious and Easy Waldorf Salad #waldorfsalad #salad #recipe #sidedish #thanksgiving #christmas #holiday

Waldorf Salad

Yes my friends, we’re taking it old school today with this classic side dish recipe that dates back over 100 years. It has become a holiday staple in my family and is served every Thanksgiving and Christmas. I’m thrilled that I get to share it with you today.

I’m also joined once again by my Tastes of the Seasons blogger friends. This week, we’re all sharing a Christmas side dish. So, if you’re looking to shake up you holiday menu or just want to try something new, be sure to check out all of the recipes I’ve linked up at the end of this post.

What is in Waldorf salad?

The recipe below is the one that my family has been using for years. I did a little online research, and while some recipes vary, the standard ingredients for Waldorf salad include:

  • apples
  • grapes
  • celery
  • walnuts
  • marshmallows
  • mayonnaise-based dressing

If you’ve never had Waldorf salad before, this might seem like a really strange combination of ingredients, but it’s really a wonderful combination of flavors and textures.

Why is it called “Waldorf salad”?

I’m sure many of you have heard of the famous Waldorf-Astoria hotel in New York City. Well, that’s where it gets it’s name. The recipe originated there back in 1896 when it was created and served at a charity ball given in honor of the St. Mary’s Hospital for Children.

Delicious and Easy Waldorf Salad #waldorfsalad #salad #recipe #sidedish #thanksgiving #christmas #holiday

How do you make Waldorf salad?

You’re in luck because today’s recipe is beyond easy. Essentially, you just toss everything into a bowl, give it a big stir and then refrigerate for a few hours. That’s it.

However, let me break it down for you. (Full ingredient list and instructions are available in the printable recipe card at the end of this post.)

In a large bowl, add the apples, grapes, celery, walnuts, and mini marshmallows.

In a small bowl, create the dressing by whisking together the mayonnaise and heavy whipping cream.

Pour the dressing onto the apple mixture and stir to evenly combine. Refrigerate for at least 2-3 hours before serving.

Delicious and Easy Waldorf Salad #waldorfsalad #salad #recipe #sidedish #thanksgiving #christmas #holiday

You really want to let this salad sit in the refrigerator for a few hours before serving. The dressing breaks down the marshmallows a bit which helps to add sweetness to the dressing which is really quite delicious.

And that is it, my friends! I told you this was an easy recipe. Another thing I love about this Waldorf salad is that it seems to get better the longer it sits. This is one of my favorite leftovers as it’s even better the day after the holiday meal.

How to Make Christmas Pinwheel Cookies #christmas #pinwheel #cookies #holiday #holidaybaking #christmascookies #recipe #dessert

Your Christmas cookie trays are about to get a striking, colorful, and delicious addition thanks to these Christmas Pinwheel Cookies.

How to Make Christmas Pinwheel Cookies #christmas #pinwheel #cookies #holiday #holidaybaking #christmascookies #recipe #dessert

Christmas Pinwheel Cookies:

I have been wanting to make these Christmas Pinwheel Cookies for the past few years. Well, this year I finally decided to make them a priority and I’m so glad I did. They turned out better than I ever expected and are as delicious as they look.

This is one of those recipes that I believe has been floating around for many years (with many variations) in cookbooks, magazines, and online. And it makes perfect sense as they are eye-catching and relativity easy to make. They are essentially a slice-and-bake cookie, but do require a little bit of prep work to create that perfect swirl.

How to Make Christmas Pinwheel Cookies #christmas #pinwheel #cookies #holiday #holidaybaking #christmascookies #recipe #dessert

How to Make Christmas Pinwheel Cookies #christmas #pinwheel #cookies #holiday #holidaybaking #christmascookies #recipe #dessert

If you’re unfamiliar with the term slice-and-bake, it’s essentially just a log of cookie dough that you slice into round discs and bake in the oven. In fact, once you make this dough, you can freeze the log until you’re ready to bake. If you do all of the prep work in advance, then you can have these fun and festive pinwheel cookies whenever the mood strikes.

If you’re looking for more of my BEST Christmas cookie recipes, I have an entire post dedicated to them. You can find my favorite Christmas cookie recipes HERE.

While the process to make these cookies is generally pretty easy, it does take a few steps and there is some chilling time between each of the steps. So while it’s not hard, it will take some down time to get them completed.

Let me take you through the recipe step by step.

How to Make Christmas Pinwheel Cookies #christmas #pinwheel #cookies #holiday #holidaybaking #christmascookies #recipe #dessert

How to Make Christmas Pinwheel Cookies #christmas #pinwheel #cookies #holiday #holidaybaking #christmascookies #recipe #dessert

How to Make Christmas Pinwheel Cookies:

Add the butter and sugar to the bowl of a stand mixer. With the paddle attachment, beat at medium speed until creamy: about 3 to 4 minutes. Add the egg and vanilla and beat well. Scrape down the sides of the bowl as necessary. (For your convenience, I’ve shared a full ingredient list and detailed instructions in the printable recipe card below.)

In a medium bowl, add the flour, salt, and baking soda. Whisk to combine. With the mixer on low speed, gradually add the flour mixture and beat to combine. Remove the dough from the bowl and divide it into thirds.

Return one portion of the dough to the mixing bowl, add in the red food coloring, and beat until evenly colored. Remove the dough, wipe the bowl clean, and repeat with another third of dough and the green food coloring. The final third of the dough requires no food coloring. Shape each portion of the dough into a ball, wrap in plastic, and refrigerate for 1 hour.

How to Make Christmas Pinwheel Cookies #christmas #pinwheel #cookies #holiday #holidaybaking #christmascookies #recipe #dessert

Remove from the refrigerator and roll each ball between two sheets of parchment paper into a 7-inch square. Refrigerate the dough again, keeping it between the parchment paper.

How to Make Christmas Pinwheel Cookies #christmas #pinwheel #cookies #holiday #holidaybaking #christmascookies #recipe #dessert

How to Make Christmas Pinwheel Cookies #christmas #pinwheel #cookies #holiday #holidaybaking #christmascookies #recipe #dessert

Stack the dough onto a piece of parchment paper starting with the red, followed by the green, and ending with the plain. Add a piece of parchment paper to the top and roll out the dough into a 12×8-inch rectangle. Remove the top sheet of parchment paper. Then, starting on one of the long sides, tightly roll up the dough into a log. The tighter your roll, the more rings you’ll have inside your cookie. Wrap the log in the parchment paper and freeze for one hour.

How to Make Christmas Pinwheel Cookies #christmas #pinwheel #cookies #holiday #holidaybaking #christmascookies #recipe #dessert

Now it’s time to bake them! Start by preheating your oven to 350 degrees F. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper and set aside.

Use a serrated knife to cut the dough log into 1/3-inch thick slices. Roll the edge of each slice in the red sanding sugar. Place the slices 1 inch apart on the prepared baking sheets.

Bake for about 8 to 10 minutes or until set. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 1 minute before removing to cool completely on a wire rack. Once completely cooled, pack and store in an airtight container.

I just love how these pinwheel cookies turned out. I wanted mine to be really vibrant and colorful so I went heavy on the food coloring to get a really deep, rich color. I’m so glad I did.

And speaking of food coloring, I’m a huge fan of the gel-based food coloring and definitely recommend it for this recipe. You can find the set I used HERE. It’s a great set and gives you basically every color option.

Naturally, you can make these cookies whatever colors you like. They don’t even need to be a Christmas cookie. You can have the colors match any holiday, event, or even something to support your favorite sports team. The options are almost endless.

The same thing goes for the sanding sugar. You can use any color sugar or sprinkle you like to give these cookies an extra layer of interest and fun.

No matter how you bake and share them, I hope you love and enjoy this Christmas Pinwheel Cookie recipe as much as I do.

I’m thrilled to welcome you back into my holiday home to show you my Living Room Christmas Mantel Decor. It’s decked out for the season and full of ideas to inspire!

Living Room Christmas Mantel Decor #livingroom #mantel #christmas #fireplace #holiday #decor #bookshelf #bookcase #garland

Living Room Christmas Mantel Decor #livingroom #mantel #christmas #fireplace #holiday #decor #bookshelf #bookcase #garland

It’s such a treat to be able to share this with you today. If you’re new here, a few weeks ago I shared that I completely changed the look of the cabinetry and fireplace mantel in my living room. It was one of those projects I was so excited to complete; I especially wanted it to be completed in time for the Christmas season. (If you missed this, I detailed the entire project HERE including sources and paint color.)

Living Room Christmas Mantel Decor

With the new cabintery installed and the conversion of my fireplace from wood burning to gas, the stage was set to add in a lot of holiday cheer! Let me show you what I created.

Living Room Christmas Mantel Decor #livingroom #mantel #christmas #fireplace #holiday #decor #bookshelf #bookcase #garland

Living Room Christmas Mantel Decor #livingroom #mantel #christmas #fireplace #holiday #decor #bookshelf #bookcase #garland

Ta-da! Pretty spectacular, right?

I couldn’t be more pleased with the end results. It was everything I had hoped for and then some. Now, to be honest, I was a little bit intimidated by styling such a massive display. While I was certainly excited to get it decorated, there was a slight feeling of panic within me from the thought that I might get it all wrong.

So, instead of letting panic set in, I employed one of my new favorite mantras: “Progress, not perfection.” – this got me started. I mean, what’s the worst that could happen – it’s just decor? And just like that, things started to come together. Oftentimes I think the fear of starting is worse than the actual doing.

Yes, there was some trial and error, but all in all, I’m obsessed with the look. Let me show you around and share a little insight into what I did in hopes that it will help your holiday decorating endeavors.

Let’s start with the mantel.

Living Room Christmas Mantel Decor #livingroom #mantel #christmas #fireplace #holiday #decor #bookshelf #bookcase #garland

I started things off with a big garland. (I used three different greens. I don’t have a specific source for any of them.) I decided to hang the garland asymmetrically this year for something new. I’m really loving the look. It’s also really nicely balanced because on the right hand side of the fireplace I have a Christmas tree. You can get a sneak peek of the tree in a few of these pictures. (I’ll be sharing the full reveal of the tree next week. Stay tuned.)

I get a lot of questions about how to hang a garland without messing up your mantel. I may need to do a full post about this. For this syling project I used these Command hangers. I added one on each side of the mantel and used floral wire around the nail head to attach the garland. It was really pretty easy and required no holes in my new mantel.

Next, I added some of these oversized pinecones with white tips to the garland. I found them HERE. With the pinecones in place I added two garlands to my garland. Ha!

Living Room Christmas Mantel Decor #livingroom #mantel #christmas #fireplace #holiday #decor #bookshelf #bookcase #garland

One of the garlands is a vintage crochet star garland I scored on eBay – what a special find! And the other is a gem and pearl garland from Balsam Hill.

Living Room Christmas Mantel Decor #livingroom #mantel #christmas #fireplace #holiday #decor #bookshelf #bookcase #garland

I also tucked in a few stockings on the right hand side of the mantel. They are mostly just for decoration. I love the look of them all clustered together. The white knit stockings are Target and HomeGoods finds. The green stocking is new and can be found HERE.

In front of the fireplace, I used my favorite oversized gold Santa (no longer sold) and a vintage magazine rack filled with birch branches.

Sidenote: If you’re curious about my gas fireplace insert and wondering how I converted from wood burning to gas, I wrote a post all about the process HERE.

Living Room Christmas Mantel Decor #livingroom #mantel #christmas #fireplace #holiday #decor #bookshelf #bookcase #garland

On the mantel, I displayed my absolute favorite holiday collection: my vintage plastic deer. This collection started when I received three of them from my Gram and Pop. Since then, I’ve been picking them up whenever I see them on my antiquing adventures. They are actually pretty hard to come by.

Living Room Christmas Mantel Decor #livingroom #mantel #christmas #fireplace #holiday #decor #bookshelf #bookcase #garland

On either side of my deer family, I added some wood and glass trees.

To complete the look of the mantel, I hung the most beautiful canvas art print which was done by the fabulous Lindsay Letters. As soon as I saw this piece in her 2020 holiday collection, I knew it would be perfect for this space. I think I was right!

I’m always honored to hang a Lindsay Letters piece in my home. This one is no exception.

Living Room Christmas Mantel Decor #livingroom #mantel #christmas #fireplace #holiday #decor #bookshelf #bookcase #garland

With all of that in place, I tackled the bookshelves on either side of the mantel. I won’t go through every detail, but instead, I’ll just point out a few things.

Living Room Christmas Mantel Decor #livingroom #mantel #christmas #fireplace #holiday #decor #bookshelf #bookcase #garland

When I started styling the bookcases, I began with books. I have a lot of books so I thought this would be a good place to start. I rounded up all the books that fit into my color scheme. Anything that was white, green, blue, aqua, gold and/or black was fair game. Thankfully I had plenty of books from which to choose.

Once the books were in place, I filled in with some holiday decor. I didn’t go over the top here, but just wanted to add a few subtle touches of the season.

Living Room Christmas Mantel Decor #livingroom #mantel #christmas #fireplace #holiday #decor #bookshelf #bookcase #garland

On the left bookcase, I added a trio of cloches that I tucked little house ornaments into. I don’t have a source for these unfortunately, but any mini house would give you a similar look. This might look familiar as I used them in a similar way last year as my dining room centerpiece.

Living Room Christmas Mantel Decor #livingroom #mantel #christmas #fireplace #holiday #decor #bookshelf #bookcase #garland

To continue with my pinecone theme, I filled a big bowl with pinecones and added that to my shelves. Other details on this shelf include an old wooden box filled with greens and garlands, a vintage metal house, and a mini pine tree.

Living Room Christmas Mantel Decor #livingroom #mantel #christmas #fireplace #holiday #decor #bookshelf #bookcase #garland

Living Room Christmas Mantel Decor #livingroom #mantel #christmas #fireplace #holiday #decor #bookshelf #bookcase #garland

One final touch that I added on this set of book cases is these two brass mice. Did you spot then? I think they are ring holders, but I love using them as Christmas decor. It reminds me of the well-known phrase from The Night Before Christmas: “Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.”

On the right hand side bookcase I created a similar look. I added more books, a different bowl with some smaller pinecones, a few more trees, and another antique wooden box embellished with pine and a beaded snowflake ornament.

One of my favorite additions to this side of the cabinet is the male bust. I’ve always wanted one of these and finally found one while antiquing this past spring.

Living Room Christmas Mantel Decor #livingroom #mantel #christmas #fireplace #holiday #decor #bookshelf #bookcase #garland

The final addition to this shelf, tucked into the lower right corner, is my Sonos speaker. If you know me, I typically have music playing and these are my favorite speakers. I love them so much that I have five of them scattered around my house. I highly recommend them. (And speaking of music, I have four fabulous Christmas music playlists. You can find them all HERE.)

Oh, and here you can also get a little sneak peek of my living room tree!

Living Room Christmas Mantel Decor #livingroom #mantel #christmas #fireplace #holiday #decor #bookshelf #bookcase #garland

With Christmas music playing, the mantel decorated, and the tree trimmed, I’d say this tour of my living room Christmas mantel decor is complete!

Living Room Christmas Mantel Decor #livingroom #mantel #christmas #fireplace #holiday #decor #bookshelf #bookcase #garland

I do have more to share from this room including my tree and a look at how I styled the rest of the space, so stay tuned for that. I’ll be sharing both in the coming weeks.

In the meantime see more of my 2020 Christmas decor here:

I hope you enjoyed this little tour and gathered a few ideas and inspiration for you own home. As always, thank you for joining me and happy decorating!

I’m thrilled to welcome you back into my holiday home to show you my Living Room Christmas Mantel Decor. It’s decked out for the season and full of ideas to inspire! It’s such a treat to be able to share this with you today. If you’re new here, a few weeks ago I shared that […]

Looking for a unique way to give a holiday gift? Let me help! I’m teaching you how to make these festive Vintage-Inspired Christmas Gift Bags.

Vintage-Inspired Christmas Gift Bags #craft #christmas #holiday #giftbags #gift #printable #transfer #giftideas #vintage #vintagechristmas

Vintage-Inspired Christmas Gift Bags

Yes, my friends! I whipped up some adorable treat bags once again!

These Christmas Gift Bags might look a bit familiar. That’s because this past Halloween I made almost exactly the same thing, but used vintage Halloween graphics instead of Christmas graphics.

Vintage-Inspired Christmas Gift Bags #craft #christmas #holiday #giftbags #gift #printable #transfer #giftideas #vintage #vintagechristmas

Vintage-Inspired Christmas Gift Bags #craft #christmas #holiday #giftbags #gift #printable #transfer #giftideas #vintage #vintagechristmas

I heard from dozens of you that you loved these so much and wanted a Christmas version. Ask and you shall receive.

I was more than happy to oblige as I’m such a big fan of this project and they are SO easy to make! The resulting Christmas gift bags are such a unique way to present a gift. What could you put inside them?

Here are a few ideas:

  • gift card
  • cookies/candy
  • jewelry
  • lottery tickets
  • … and the list goes on!

As you can see throughout this post, I styled these gift bags in various places throughout my home. Even if you decided to not give them as a gift, I think they’d make great décor too!

Vintage-Inspired Christmas Gift Bags #craft #christmas #holiday #giftbags #gift #printable #transfer #giftideas #vintage #vintagechristmas

Vintage-Inspired Christmas Gift Bags #craft #christmas #holiday #giftbags #gift #printable #transfer #giftideas #vintage #vintagechristmas

I love an old-fashioned Christmas, so for the graphics, I wanted to go vintage again. As usual, I found amazing vintage art at The Graphics Fairy. She has the best selection of vintage clip art, graphics, and illustrations.

Sidenote: If you’re looking for a more modern version of these bags, I have you covered. Check out these DIY cookie bags I made a few years ago.

I found so many that I loved, but decided to narrow the collection down to my eight favorites. These eight are available as a free download below. However, feel free to do a search for your own images if you don’t love the ones I’ve selected.

Speaking of these vintage graphics, remember last Christmas when I used a bunch of vintage graphics to craft printable holiday gift tags? It was so much fun collecting and sourcing the graphics for those gift tags. They filled me with nostalgia and the magic of Christmas traditions. If you like these bags, you’ll love those too! Be sure to check them out as I offered a free printable for those as well. Why buy gift tags when you can print them from the comfort of your own home?

But this post isn’t about tags, it’s about bags! Let me show you how easy these Christmas bags are to make!

Vintage-Inspired Christmas Gift Bags #craft #christmas #holiday #giftbags #gift #printable #transfer #giftideas #vintage #vintagechristmas

How to Make Vintage-Inspired Christmas Gift Bags:

For this project you will need:

*If you use a different type or brand of fabric transfer sheets, please follow the directions on the package.

**There are a variety of bags that you can buy. You will find the ones I used HERE. These bags are constructed from a thicker material, so they’re a bit more expensive. (They also sell out quickly, but keep checking back as they do restock them.) For a more affordable option, I recommend THESE.

Vintage-Inspired Christmas Gift Bags #craft #christmas #holiday #giftbags #gift #printable #transfer #giftideas #vintage #vintagechristmas

Begin by downloading the printable file:

Vintage-Inspired Christmas Gift Bag Download:

You can access the download in the IBC Printable Library, which can be found HERE.

If you’re new to Inspired by Charm, you can get access to this library by SUBSCRIBING HERE. Once you’ve subscribed, you will immediately receive an email that contains a link and password to access this download.

If you’re already on the IBC Mailing List, you can find the password to access the Printable Library at the bottom of any email from Inspired by Charm.

With your PDF download successfully saved to your computer, load the printable fabric transfer sheets into your printer.

Adjust the printer settings to the highest quaintly and then print.

(You’ll notice that the printable looks backward or mirrored. This is okay. Since you’ll be ironing these transfers with the printed side down, the image of the graphic needs to be mirrored so it will read correctly when the paper backing is removed.)

Vintage-Inspired Christmas Gift Bags #craft #christmas #holiday #giftbags #gift #printable #transfer #giftideas #vintage #vintagechristmas

Once printed, cut out each graphic as neatly as possible.

Next, make sure your iron is empty of water. Turn off the steam and then set the iron on high heat (cotton setting).

Iron the bag to remove any wrinkles. Then place the graphic on the bag so that the printed side of the graphic faces down. I positioned the graphic a bit closer to the bottom of the bag rather than in the center of it to allow for the gathering at the top when the bag is cinched shut.

Vintage-Inspired Christmas Gift Bags #craft #christmas #holiday #giftbags #gift #printable #transfer #giftideas #vintage #vintagechristmas

Using the iron, apply heat to the transfer for 45-60 seconds. Apply medium pressure and be sure to move the iron around to avoid scorching the bag.

Repeat this heat transfer process with all of the bags and graphics. Let each bag sit until it’s cool (2-3 minutes) before gently peeling off the paper backing.

Vintage-Inspired Christmas Gift Bags #craft #christmas #holiday #giftbags #gift #printable #transfer #giftideas #vintage #vintagechristmas

The Christmas Gift Bags are now complete and ready to be filled with whatever gifts you’re giving this holiday season.

Vintage-Inspired Christmas Gift Bags #craft #christmas #holiday #giftbags #gift #printable #transfer #giftideas #vintage #vintagechristmas

 Vintage-Inspired Christmas Gift Bags #craft #christmas #holiday #giftbags #gift #printable #transfer #giftideas #vintage #vintagechristmas

I am majorly pleased with how these turned out! They are even better than I envisioned.

Enjoy!

Poinsettia Pomegranate Martini #holiday #cocktail #martini #recipe #PomegranateMartini #Pomegranate #gin #Christmas

We’re celebrating the season with a delicious and festive holiday cocktail recipe. This Poinsettia Pomegranate Martini is an easy, delicious, and refreshing drink that’s perfectly styled for the season. Let’s shake one up!

Poinsettia Pomegranate Martini #holiday #cocktail #martini #recipe #PomegranateMartini #Pomegranate #gin #Christmas

Poinsettia Pomegranate Martini:

As you know, I’ve made many Christmas cocktail recipes here on Inspired by Charm. In fact, I have an entire post dedicated to them. (You can find that HERE.) As I thought about what I wanted to add to that already fabulous list, I realized that a Pomegranate Martini would make the perfect addition.

Poinsettia Pomegranate Martini #holiday #cocktail #martini #recipe #PomegranateMartini #Pomegranate #gin #Christmas

Poinsettia Pomegranate Martini #holiday #cocktail #martini #recipe #PomegranateMartini #Pomegranate #gin #Christmas

So, that’s exactly what we’re making today. In fact, if you’ve been following the blog closely, you may remember seeing this cocktail when I shared a post earlier this week with all of my best Christmas entertaining tips and ideas. (You can find that HERE if you missed it.)

As I will mention below, gin is not my go-to when I reach for a drink. However, I was really surprised at how much I loved it in this recipe. It complements the pomegranate and lime juices beautifully. In fact, I like these so much, I’m going to whip them up for my mom this weekend. I know that gin isn’t her favorite either, but I’m certain she’ll love these as much as I do!

Poinsettia Pomegranate Martini #holiday #cocktail #martini #recipe #PomegranateMartini #Pomegranate #gin #Christmas

Let’s whip a few up!

What goes into a Pomegranate Martini:

Before we get started, let me tell you what you’ll need to whip up this delicious pomegranate martini!

For this recipe you will need:

  • gin
  • pomegranate juice
  • freshly squeezed lime juice
  • simple syrup. (You can get my recipe HERE.)

I really think gin is the best choice for this recipe even though gin isn’t my favorite when it comes to liquors. However, it pairs so wonderfully with the pomegranate juice and lime that it’s a must for me. Even if you’re not a big gin fan, I think you’ll enjoy it in this recipe.

With that being said, you can also use plain vodka.

Poinsettia Pomegranate Martini #holiday #cocktail #martini #recipe #PomegranateMartini #Pomegranate #gin #Christmas

How to Make a Pomegranate Martini from scratch:

Start by adding a couple teaspoons of pomegranate seeds to the bottom of your martini glass. Set aside.

In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, add the gin, pomegranate juice, fresh lime juice, and simple syrup. Shake vigorously. (You can find the full ingredient list and detailed recipe instructions in the printable recipe card below.)

Strain into your prepared martini glass. Garnish with a fresh lime slice.

Poinsettia Pomegranate Martini #holiday #cocktail #martini #recipe #PomegranateMartini #Pomegranate #gin #Christmas

Poinsettia Pomegranate Martini #holiday #cocktail #martini #recipe #PomegranateMartini #Pomegranate #gin #Christmas

Sip and enjoy!

I served mine with some of my Seasoned and Roasted Cashews. So good! You can find the recipe for these HERE.

I love how simple these are to make. You can also mix up a large batch of the pomegranate martini base and then just shake up a cocktail with ice anytime someone needs a drink. This makes entertaining really easy!

While you can find ALL of my favorite Christmas cocktails HERE, I think you’ll especially enjoy these.

And if you’re looking to find some of the same pieces that I used to make and serve these pomegranate martinis, here’s where you can find them:

And that’s a wrap my friends! I hope you’ll give this Poinsettia Pomegranate Martini a try this holiday season.

Cheers!

Gingerbread Cinnamon Rolls #gingerbread #cinnamonrolls #breakfast #holidaybaking #dessert #baking #recipe

Cinnamon rolls are getting a festive upgrade. These Gingerbread Cinnamon Rolls, complete with Spiced Brown Butter Frosting, are a must-make, holiday breakfast treat. If you thought regular cinnamon rolls were good, just wait until you try these!

Gingerbread Cinnamon Rolls #gingerbread #cinnamonrolls #breakfast #holidaybaking #dessert #baking #recipe

Gingerbread Cinnamon Rolls:

Oh friends, I couldn’t be more excited to share today’s recipe with you. Cinnamon rolls are one of my favorite breakfast treats; add a warm, cozy, and spiced upgrade for the season and I’m in heaven. Yes, we are making Gingerbread Cinnamon Rolls!

Gingerbread Cinnamon Rolls #gingerbread #cinnamonrolls #breakfast #holidaybaking #dessert #baking #recipe

Gingerbread Cinnamon Rolls #gingerbread #cinnamonrolls #breakfast #holidaybaking #dessert #baking #recipe

I’m also extra thrilled for today’s post as I’m once again joined by my Tastes of the Seasons blogger friends. We are all sharing a delicious holiday treat to help add a little sweetness to your Christmas. If you’re looking for some new holiday recipe ideas, I’ve linked everyone below. There are some tasty treats, so be sure to check them out before clicking away.

Now, back to these Gingerbread Cinnamon Rolls.

You might remember that a while back I made some Pumpkin Cinnamon Rolls for fall. Those were my favorite way to make cinnamon rolls… until today.

Gingerbread Cinnamon Rolls #gingerbread #cinnamonrolls #breakfast #holidaybaking #dessert #baking #recipe

You know that I’m a huge fan of all-things-pumpkin. Yes, yes, I’m one of those pumpkin-spice-everything lovers. However, as my tastes evolve and change, I’m becoming an even bigger fan of the seasonal flavors of Christmas.

To be honest, a lot of the spices used are the same, but there’s something about that rich, deep flavor of molasses that just takes these cinnamon rolls to the next level.

Gingerbread Cinnamon Rolls #gingerbread #cinnamonrolls #breakfast #holidaybaking #dessert #baking #recipe

Gingerbread Cinnamon Rolls #gingerbread #cinnamonrolls #breakfast #holidaybaking #dessert #baking #recipe

Oh, and the spiced brown butter frosting is off-the-chain delicious. I need to make more things with brown butter. It’s just so good and so easy to make.

If you make these for Christmas morning or anytime during the holiday/winter season, you are going to be the queen or king of the morning! I promise!

Let’s whip up a batch.

How to Make Gingerbread Cinnamon Rolls:

To make the dough, begin by whisking together the sugar, yeast, cinnamon, ginger, salt, cloves, and 1 3/4 cups flour in the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the dough hook attachment. I’ve provided all of the ingredient amounts and detailed recipe instructions in the printable recipe card below.

Then, in a small saucepan combine the milk and butter and cook over low heat until the butter has melted and the temperature reaches between 105 degrees F and 110 degrees F.

Gingerbread Cinnamon Rolls #gingerbread #cinnamonrolls #breakfast #holidaybaking #dessert #baking #recipe

Add the milk mixture, egg, and molasses to the flour mixture. Beat with the dough hook on low until moistened. Continue beating, gradually adding the remaining 1 3/4 cups flour. If the dough seems too sticky add another 1/4 cup flour. Beat for about 4 to 5 minutes or until dough ball begins to form.

Gingerbread Cinnamon Rolls #gingerbread #cinnamonrolls #breakfast #holidaybaking #dessert #baking #recipe

Gingerbread Cinnamon Rolls #gingerbread #cinnamonrolls #breakfast #holidaybaking #dessert #baking #recipe

Transfer the dough to a lightly buttered mixing bowl, cover with a towel, and set in a warm place to rise for about 1 hour. The dough should double in size.

In the meantime, prepare the filling. In one bowl, whisk together the brown sugar, cinnamon, ginger, and cloves. Set aside. In another bowl, beat together the butter, molasses, and kosher salt. Set aside.

Next, butter a 9 x 13 baking dish.

On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough into a 12 x 16 rectangle. Spread the molasses butter over the dough. (I love using an offset spatula for this; it’s one of my favorite kitchen tools.)

Gingerbread Cinnamon Rolls #gingerbread #cinnamonrolls #breakfast #holidaybaking #dessert #baking #recipe

Gingerbread Cinnamon Rolls #gingerbread #cinnamonrolls #breakfast #holidaybaking #dessert #baking #recipe

Then, sprinkle evenly with the sugar mixture. Starting with the long edge closest to you, roll the dough into a log. Trim off the ends, then cut into 12 pieces. Place the pieces into the buttered dish cut side up. Cover with a towel and let rise until doubled in size: about one hour.

Gingerbread Cinnamon Rolls #gingerbread #cinnamonrolls #breakfast #holidaybaking #dessert #baking #recipe

Gingerbread Cinnamon Rolls #gingerbread #cinnamonrolls #breakfast #holidaybaking #dessert #baking #recipe

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F. Bake for about 25 minutes or until cooked through and lightly browned.

Next, make your Spiced Brown Butter Frosting. In a small saucepan melt the butter over low until the butter turns a light brown color and smells nutty. Remove from the heat and allow to cool. In a medium bowl, beat together the cooled browned butter, cream cheese, confectioners’ sugar, vanilla, salt, cinnamon, ginger, and cloves. If your frosting is too thick, add splash of milk. If your frosting’s too thin, add a touch more confectioners’ sugar.

Gingerbread Cinnamon Rolls #gingerbread #cinnamonrolls #breakfast #holidaybaking #dessert #baking #recipe

And finally, spread that delicious frosting over the warm rolls and serve.

Gingerbread Cinnamon Rolls #gingerbread #cinnamonrolls #breakfast #holidaybaking #dessert #baking #recipe

The heat from the rolls makes the frosting melt a bit and thus it seeps into all of the little crevices of the roll making for such a delectable treat. And don’t worry, you’ll have extra frosting should you prefer more on your cinnamon rolls.

Gingerbread Cinnamon Rolls #gingerbread #cinnamonrolls #breakfast #holidaybaking #dessert #baking #recipe

Gingerbread Cinnamon Rolls #gingerbread #cinnamonrolls #breakfast #holidaybaking #dessert #baking #recipe

If the dough seems too sticky, add another 1/4 cup flour. Beat for about 4 to 5 minutes or until dough ball begins to form.
  • Transfer the dough to a lightly buttered mixing bowl, cover the bowl with a towel, and set in a warm place to rise for about 1 hour. The dough should double in size.
  • In the meantime, prepare the filling. In one bowl, whisk together the brown sugar, cinnamon, ginger, and cloves. Set aside. In another bowl, beat together the butter, molasses, and kosher salt. Set aside.
  • Next, butter a 9 x 13 baking dish.
  • On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough into a 12 x 16 rectangle. Spread the molasses butter over the dough. Then sprinkle evenly with the sugar mixture. Starting with the long edge closest to you, roll the dough into a log. Trim off the ends, then cut into 12 pieces. Place the pieces into the buttered dish cut side up. Cover with a towel and let rise until doubled in size: about one hour.
  • Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F. Bake for about 25 minutes or until cooked through and lightly browned.
  • Finally, make your Spiced Brown Butter Frosting. In a small saucepan melt the butter over low until the butter turns a light brown color and smells nutty. Remove from the heat and allow to cool. In a medium bowl, beat together the cooled browned butter, cream cheese, confectioners' sugar, vanilla, salt, cinnamon, ginger, and cloves. If your frosting is too thick, add splash of milk. If your frosting's too thin, add a touch more confectioners' sugar.
  • Spread the frosting over the warm rolls and serve.

Red and White Christmas Tree #christmas #christmastree #tree #decor #decorating #holiday #christmastreedecor #ornaments

I’m thrilled to welcome you back into my home to share my first Christmas tree of 2020! Today we’re in my family room to take a look at my Red and White Christmas Tree.

Red and White Christmas Tree #christmas #christmastree #tree #decor #decorating #holiday #christmastreedecor #ornaments

Red and White Christmas Tree

It always feels like the unofficial start of the Christmas season when I have one of my trees completely decorated. (I suppose it also helps that Thanksgiving is now behind us.) So let the season begin because my Red and White Christmas tree is ready. There may even be a gift or two underneath the tree for those that made the nice list.

If you want a look at over 16 unique trees that I’ve decorated in the past, check out this post HERE. It features many of my favorites and provides a lot of inspiration if you’re looking to change up your Christmas tree decor.

Today is especially exciting as I’m honored that Balsam Hill invited me back to be a part of their 12 Trees of Christmas. As you know I’m a big fan of Balsam Hill. They have become my go-to for the most realistic trees. I also love their ornament collections, wreaths, garlands, and other holiday decor. Be sure to visit their site HERE for Black Friday deals and there are also hosting a fabulous giveaway HERE.

Without further waiting, let’s take a closer look at my Red and White Christmas Tree.

Red and White Christmas Tree:

As I mentioned above, this tree is in my family room. As I’ve done the past two years, I went with a red-inspired look in this room. Maybe I will switch it up one of these years, but I just love how the red looks in this space. It’s such a cozy and classic Christmas look. In previous years I did a nostalgia-inspired tree and last year was my Cozy Lodge Christmas tree.

This year, I went in a different direction and decided to focus on red and white.

Unfortunately, I don’t have sources for all of the items that I used on my tree. However, I did link whatever I could at the end of this post including the tree, some of the ornaments, tree skirt, and more! I hope that it’s helpful!

Red and White Christmas Tree #christmas #christmastree #tree #decor #decorating #holiday #christmastreedecor #ornaments

Inspiration for this tree came from a few different places. First, I love many of the ornaments from Balsam Hill’s Nordic collection. I especially loved two of their Nordic Christmas Stockings from this collection which I have hanging on my mantel. (If you missed it, I shared a look at my mantel decor HERE.) These items inspired the look, but from there I made it my own.

Red and White Christmas Tree #christmas #christmastree #tree #decor #decorating #holiday #christmastreedecor #ornaments

When decorating a tree I always like to start with the ribbon. (You can find my Christmas Tree ribbon tutorial HERE.) For this tree I used this Candy Cane Stripe Ribbon. It’s beautiful and even has a little sparkle to the top of the ribbon. Every tree needs a little sparkle.

Red and White Christmas Tree #christmas #christmastree #tree #decor #decorating #holiday #christmastreedecor #ornaments

Red and White Christmas Tree #christmas #christmastree #tree #decor #decorating #holiday #christmastreedecor #ornaments

As you know I like a fully decorated tree, so with the ribbon in place, I just continued to add ornaments that fit into my color scheme. If I had to give a rough count, I’d say there are over 250 ornaments on this tree – not including the ribbon or garland.

In fact, many of you were curious about my tree decorating process. This year, I documented the entire thing and shared lots of tips on Instagram stories. If you missed it, have no fear as I’ve saved it to my Instagram story highlights. You can head over HERE and watch the whole series.

One of my big tree decorating tips is that I like to add lots of solid colored glass balls to my tree in various sheens and sizes. This can be an easy and inexpensive way to make a tree feel full.

Many of my solid color glass ornaments were purchased from thrift stores over the past 10 years or so. Balsam Hill also has Essentials Classic Christmas Ornament Set if you’re looking for some of the the solid color ornaments. I love that they come in two sizes and two sheens. On this tree I’ve used the red and white.

Red and White Christmas Tree #christmas #christmastree #tree #decor #decorating #holiday #christmastreedecor #ornaments

Another thing I always like to do is add a few quirky touches to my tree. This year, I opted for mushroom ornaments. I had used some of these on a tree I did many years ago and have been itching for a reason to use them again.

When I decided on a red and white theme, I knew they would make the perfect quirky addition. I had a couple dozen from my previous tree and I picked up a few new ones from Pottery Barn.

Red and White Christmas Tree #christmas #christmastree #tree #decor #decorating #holiday #christmastreedecor #ornaments

I found this beautiful Ulsta Tree Skirt at Crate & Barrel. As soon as I saw it, I knew it would be the perfect match for my theme.

Red and White Christmas Tree #christmas #christmastree #tree #decor #decorating #holiday #christmastreedecor #ornaments

The finishing touch to my tree was this beautiful Felt and Wood Beaded Garland – another Balsam Hill find.

I also used my vintage metal star tree topper. I’ve been using this topper for years and it’s one of my favorites. In fact, the first time I used it was when I did my “famous” rainbow gradient tree.

Red and White Christmas Tree #christmas #christmastree #tree #decor #decorating #holiday #christmastreedecor #ornaments

And after I wrapped up a few presents to tuck underneath, I would say that my Red and White Christmas tree is complete and ready to welcome in the Christmas season.

It’s always such a joy to share my Christmas trees with you. I hope you enjoy this one as much as I do. I also hope that it provides a little inspiration as you decorate your own tree this holiday season.

I have so much more to share with you this 2020 holiday season so stay tuned for my holiday decor, seasonal recipes, and festive cheer. If you’re not on the list already, be sure to subscribe to the IBC Mailing List HERE so you don’t miss a thing.

These Seasoned and Roasted Cashews make a delicious addition to any holiday spread, a fabulous cheeseboard, or snacks for the big game. With a little heat and a whole lot of flavor you’re going to love this recipe.

Seasoned and Roasted Cashews

I don’t know about your family, but seasoned nuts, pretzels, and even crackers are a staple during the holiday season for mine. You can always find one or all three spread around the table when family is gathered together.

In times past I haven’t made them myself. (It’s just me here and the last thing I need sitting around is a bowl of snacks which I can’t stop eating.) However, the recipes are so good and the idea around them brings me so much joy that I got the recipes from family and friends so that I can add them to my own collection and share them with all of you.

Seasoned and Roasted Cashews #snack #seasoned #roasted #cashews #nuts #recipe #appetizer

Seasoned and Roasted Cashews #snack #seasoned #roasted #cashews #nuts #recipe #appetizer

Today we are making Missy’s (my sister-in-law) Seasoned and Roasted Cashews. This is one of my favorite seasoned snack recipes, since I love cashews. The added flavoring just makes them that much better!

As I mentioned above, you can serve these on their own, but they do pair lovely with a big cheeseboard (get my cheeseboard styling tips and homemade mustard recipes HERE) or make a lovely complement to any holiday appetizer spread.

They are almost as easy to make as they are to eat! Let me walk you through the recipe.

Seasoned and Roasted Cashews #snack #seasoned #roasted #cashews #nuts #recipe #appetizer

How to Make Seasoned and Roasted Cashews

Begin by preheating your oven to 200 degrees F.

Add the cashews to a large bowl. Drizzle with extra virgin olive oil. Toss with a spatula to evenly coat. (You can get the full recipe with ingredient amounts and detailed instructions in the printable recipe card below.)

Seasoned and Roasted Cashews #snack #seasoned #roasted #cashews #nuts #recipe #appetizer

Sidenote: Missy recommends using unroasted cashews as she found the roasted variety gets a bit too hard after baking. Also, if you choose to use salted cashews, remove the added salt in the recipe.

Next, sprinkle with the two packets of Ranch seasoning, dried dill, cayenne pepper, and salt. Again, toss with a spatula to evenly distribute the seasonings.

Seasoned and Roasted Cashews #snack #seasoned #roasted #cashews #nuts #recipe #appetizer

Spread the cashews out onto a large baking sheet and place in the oven for 45 minutes, stirring every 15 minutes.

Seasoned and Roasted Cashews #snack #seasoned #roasted #cashews #nuts #recipe #appetizer

Let the cashews cool before packing in an airtight container.

And that’s it my friends. Your Seasoned and Roasted Cashews are complete! You can store them in an airtight container to snack on them all season long or pull them out when company arrives.

Christmas In my Bulters Pantry #kitchen #christmas #decor #holiday #pantry #decorating #santamugs

Decorating the shelves in my butler’s pantry has become one of my favorite things to style for the holidays. Today I’m inviting you inside to share a closer look at Christmas in my Butler’s Pantry. I’m also sharing a sneak peek at some of the other spaces I’m decorating around my home.

Christmas In my Bulters Pantry #kitchen #christmas #decor #holiday #pantry #decorating #santamugs

I’m so happy to welcome you back into my home today for a little more holiday magic. It’s extra exciting as I’ve teamed up with my Seasons of Home blogger friends again. Each of us are taking you inside our home to share how we’ve decorated for the season. I adore this group and each of their spaces is more magical than the next. Once you’re done here, be sure to click through to each of their blogs for a little more holiday decorating inspiration. I’ve linked them all at the end of this post.

Looking for more Christmas inspiration? This list is for you!

The Ultimate Christmas Idea and Recipe Resource List:

Christmas In my Butlers Pantry

If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll know that I’m still working on decorating my home for Christmas. (I’ve been doing my best to share a behind-the-scenes look at my process, so be sure to follow along HERE if you’re interested.) I feel a bit behind as it seems everyone else got a head start this year. However, I’m doing my best to take my time and just enjoy the process. This time of year is one of my favorites for decorating, so I’m savoring every step.

One of the first spaces I decided to decorate was my butler’s pantry. If you’re new here, last year I completed a major kitchen remodel (see the reveal here) and added a butler’s pantry to my home. One thing I wanted in this space was a wall of open shelves so that I could put my favorite kitchen items on display.

Christmas In my Bulters Pantry #kitchen #christmas #decor #holiday #pantry #decorating #santamugs

Christmas In my Bulters Pantry #kitchen #christmas #decor #holiday #pantry #decorating #santamugs

For Christmas, I decided to add pops of red in this space. I love how it works with the sage green color of my cabinetry. (You can find all the details of this space in my kitchen reveal post HERE.)

A couple years ago I started a collection of Santa mugs. Some are new. Some are old. It has been such a fun thing to hunt for when I’m out on my antiquing adventures. Some of the newer Santa mugs are from Pottery Barn. They have a standard size mug HERE and some of the mini mugs HERE. It’s a great place to start if you’re looking to begin your own collection.

I also have a couple sets of Santa and Mrs. Claus salt and pepper shakers. They are newer. I’m particularly fond of the pair that is kissing. They got a more prominent display on my shelves. After I put my collection of mugs and S&P shakers in place, I filled in with some faux greens. This is such an easy way to make a space feel more cozy and seasonal.

Another one of my favorite additions to this space is my little ceramic light-up tree. This one is vintage. I found it at an antique store a couple years ago. It adds a touch of nostalgia, whimsy, and color.

Opposite the tree, I have a window and sink here in my butlers pantry. This area doesn’t often get photographed because it’s at such a strange angle. However, I did want to show you that I hung a small wreath with a piece of red satin ribbon on this window. It matches the wreaths I’ve hung in my kitchen.

I also added a couple of small Christmas touches to my vintage tray wall. I swapped out one of the trays for a “Season’s Greetings” tray and added a small bottle wreath to another.

Christmas In my Bulters Pantry #kitchen #christmas #decor #holiday #pantry #decorating #santamugs

Just outside the pantry, in my kitchen, I tucked a small tree into a large bowl. (The tree I found at a local store HERE and the large bowl I found HERE.) I think I’ll add some lights and decor to it as well – perhaps some cookie cutters as ornaments.

Christmas In my Bulters Pantry #kitchen #christmas #decor #holiday #pantry #decorating #santamugs

I also have a peg hook under my clock. Here I hung a small faux wreath and some bells. It’s just enough to make it feel like Christmas.

Now I know a lot of my Seasons of Home friends are sharing a larger and grander look throughout their entire home. I’m still over here decorating, but I did want to give you a peek at some of the things I’m working on and how the rest of my holiday decor here at Bayberry House is coming along. So here’s a sneak peek at what’s to come:

Converting a Wood Burning Fireplace to Gas #gasfireplace #realfyre #fireplace #convert

Today I’m sharing my experience with converting my wood burning fireplace into a gas burning fireplace. I’m sharing why I made this decision, the gas fireplace insert I selected, and more!

Converting a Wood Burning Fireplace to Gas #gasfireplace #realfyre #fireplace #convert

Converting a Wood Burning Fireplace to a Gas Fireplace

Disclaimer: Before we get into my experience, I want to mention that I’m not a professional in this area. I highly recommend that you consult with an experienced professional that you trust – that’s what I did. There’s no room for error here. You’re dealing with fire, gas lines, ventilation, etc. I do not recommend attempting this yourself. In this post I am sharing my experience with the process; this is not meant to be a how-to guide. Do your homework. Hire a professional.

If you’ve been following along, I recently updated the cabinetry surrounding my fireplace in my living room. The installation is complete (see it here) and I couldn’t be more pleased with the results. As part of this update, I decided to convert the fireplace from wood burning to gas.

Living Room Cabinetry Reveal #custom #cabinetry #livingroom #fireplace #builtin #bookcase #mantel #woodwork

Converting a Wood Burning Fireplace to Gas #gasfireplace #realfyre #fireplace #convert

I’m very lucky as I have three fireplaces in my home: one in my living room (that we’re looking at today), one in my family room, and one in my basement. All three fireplaces are wood burning. If I only had one fireplace in my home, I’d likely keep it as a wood burning fireplace. Nothing beats the heat, smell, and crackle of a wood burning fireplace. However, since I have three, I decided to change the one in my living room from wood burning to gas.

I have been in this home a little over two years and up until now, I have never used this fireplace. With the convenience and mess-free advantages of gas, I knew that I would get significantly greater use out of this fireplace.

Additional advantages of a gas fireplace include:

  • cleaner
  • easy on and off
  • less maintenance
  • no wood required.

How to Convert to a Gas Fireplace:

As I mentioned above, start by seeking out a professional. Initially I had planned to visit a local place that sells fireplace inserts / gas logs. However, a neighbor was kind enough to recommend a local fireplace expert that not only repairs and cleans fireplaces, but is someone who could assist me with the conversion of my fireplace from wood to gas.

From there the process was really simple. (Because I just had to pay the man and didn’t have to do any of the work.)

Converting a Wood Burning Fireplace to Gas #gasfireplace #realfyre #fireplace #convert

About my Gas Fireplace Set:

The system I used for the gas logs is called Real Fyre. I believe there are different systems out there, but this is the one my installer works with and recommends.

My set (G46 Burner) is vented; that means I will keep my chimney flue open when the fire is on. They also make vent-free options should your situation require that.

In terms of the actual unit, I selected the G46 which is a mid range model. This model gives me a variable flame which means I can adjust the size of the flame. My unit is controlled by a remote or through the control panel on the unit.

Converting a Wood Burning Fireplace to Gas #gasfireplace #realfyre #fireplace #convert

Converting a Wood Burning Fireplace to Gas #gasfireplace #realfyre #fireplace #convert

Speaking of the control unit, I’d have to say that this is the only disadvantage of a gas unit as it is a bit obvious that it’s there. They do provide a faux rock to place in front of it, but it’s still there.

When you are shopping for your gas fireplace unit, be sure to ask where these controls will sit. There are some models that require the unit to sit on the hearth of your fireplace which would be even more difficult to conceal.

Converting a Wood Burning Fireplace to Gas #gasfireplace #realfyre #fireplace #convert

Converting a Wood Burning Fireplace to Gas #gasfireplace #realfyre #fireplace #convert

You will also need natural gas for this type of fireplace. (I suppose that’s fairly obvious, but it’s worth mentioning.) I was fortunate in that my gas line comes into the house right below the fireplace, so running the line was fairly simple. My fireplace was also equipped with an ash dump, so it was even easy to install the gas line. (I believe there are some options available for propane if that’s what you have.)

My particular unit does not require electricity, so no electrical wires (or electrician) were needed.

Does a Gas Fireplace Produce Heat:

Yes!

I was actually surprised at the amount of heat it produced. I would say it’s somewhat comparable to my wood burning fireplace.

Converting a Wood Burning Fireplace to Gas #gasfireplace #realfyre #fireplace #convert

About the Ceramic Logs:

There are a variety of log sets available. You can do everything from charred wood, to birch logs, to more modern options like spheres, cones, and even glass. There’s really something for everyone.

I opted for the Charred Oak. I love the look of the charred wood. The set also comes with glowing embers. The embers are the glowing bits below the logs. These really add to the realistic look of the fire. While the logs should last you a lifetime, the glowing embers may need to be replaced every year.

Converting a Wood Burning Fireplace to Gas #gasfireplace #realfyre #fireplace #convert

Converting a Wood Burning Fireplace to Gas #gasfireplace #realfyre #fireplace #convert

Another thing to note is that once you have your unit in place, you can buy new logs if want to change the look seasonally or just to try something new.

In addition to the logs and embers, my installer added some lava rock around the base of the fireplace. (This is not included in the kit.) I think this adds a really nice look, so it’s something I would recommend considering. You can find lava rock at home improvement stores or even on Amazon.

Other things to note:

  • When they are installing your gas line, be sure it’s wide enough. Narrow lines can create a whistling sound when the flame / fire is on its highest setting.
  • I don’t know what the requirements are for having a screen or doors on a gas fireplace. Be sure to check with you installer to see if you’ll need these. My installer told me I didn’t, though I may opt to add some sort of screen down the road.
  • If you are considering a gas fireplace, install a carbon monoxide detector if you don’t already have one. This is a must.
  • Plan on yearly maintenance and cleanings. It’s really important that you continue to have your system cleaned and inspected so that everything continues to function properly.

Alright, I think that’s it. I’m certain I missed something, so if you have additional questions please drop them in the comments below and I’ll be sure to answer them there and / or update this post.

I hope this was helpful. Overall, I’m incredibly pleased with this decision and would do it again in a heartbeat.

My Christmas Ribbon Cabinet #christmas #ribbon #wrapping #decor #decorations #holiday #christmasribbon

It’s back! After its popularity last year, I decided to dedicate an entire blog post to my Christmas ribbon cabinet. Whether this cabinet is new to you or a familiar favorite, I hope it provides a little joy and holiday inspiration.

My Christmas Ribbon Cabinet #christmas #ribbon #wrapping #decor #decorations #holiday #christmasribbon

My Christmas Ribbon Cabinet #christmas #ribbon #wrapping #decor #decorations #holiday #christmasribbon

Some of you may have seen this last year as part of my Christmas family room tour or you may have spotted it on Instagram or you may have no idea what I’m talking about, but my Christmas Ribbon Cabinet is back.

A little back story … last year I found this vintage wood cabinet on one of my antiquing adventures. (If you’re local to (or visiting) Pittsburgh, you can find my favorite antique stores HERE.) At first, the cabinet sat empty for most of the summer and through the fall season as I hadn’t decided what I wanted to fill it with. When Christmas came around I knew I needed to come up with something to put inside. I was racking my brain and just couldn’t come up with the perfect thing. Then, as I was pulling all of my Christmas decor down from the attic, I saw my tote of Christmas ribbon and inspiration struck. Why not use something that I have instead of trying to find something new?

Why Christmas Ribbon?

I should explain that I have a peculiar addiction to Christmas ribbon. Why? Who knows. I think it ties into my general love of office supplies, paper products, gift wrap, etc. Anyone else? If you know, you just know.

I have a full, large tote that is only filled with Christmas ribbon. Some might call this a problem; I call it wonderful!

Could I ever use this much ribbon in my lifetime? Probably not. However, it brings me joy and we could all use a little more joy in our lives.

Either way, here we are. And why let this beautiful collection just sit in a tote when it can be on display?

Where Do I Buy My Christmas Ribbon?

I get asked this question quite a bit, so I thought I would answer. The short answer is anywhere and everywhere, but that’s not very helpful so here are some of my go-to sources:

  • Amazon– In recent years Amazon has become a great source for ribbon. There are just so many options and the price is typically right. In fact, in my Amazon Storefront, I put together a collection of some of my favorites. You can find that HERE under “My Go-To Ribbons.”
  • HomeGoods / TJ Maxx / Marshalls – Did you know that these are all the same company? Yep! These stores might be my favorite as they tend to have the biggest selection and the lowest prices.
  • The Container Store – They have fewer options, but I’ve found some of my favorites here. This is also where I get the glittery twine.
  • Joann / Michaels – Not the same company this time, but they both have a great ribbon selection. The only thing I don’t love about their ribbons is that they typically come on cardboard or paper spools. It’s not a deal breaker, but I defiantly prefer wood if possible.
  • Etsy – Surprisingly, I’ve found several ribbons here. I like Etsy as a source because it is where I often find some of my most unique and special ribbons. They can be more expensive, but I find them to be worth it.
  • Nashville Wraps – This is my go-to source for my gift wrapping ribbon. For the past several years I’ve used their satin ribbon when I’m wrapping all of my gifts. I enjoy working with it and I love how it looks. This cabinet doesn’t have any of this ribbon in it, but I thought it was worth mentioning. (I’m planning on putting together a gift wrapping post, so stay tuned for that.)

See a ribbon in my cabinet you love and want a source? Unfortunately, I don’t have links or sources for every (or any) specific ribbon. I apologize in advance. I suppose it’s my best worst kept secret. However, if you check out some of the places I shared above, I’m certain you’ll find some beautiful ribbons for your own decor and collections.

Do I use this Christmas Ribbon?

Yes and no.

Most of the ribbon in this cabinet is mostly decorative. However, there are times I will use it to wrap presents as you can see in the image above. Most of the gifts are tied up with my go-to satin ribbon, but I did use that wonderful lantern ribbon on one of the packages. Here is another example from under my Navy and Green Christmas Tree from last year. I did use some of this beautiful plaid ribbon along with my satin ribbon.

Sidenote: The gift tags available are available as a FREE download! You can find those HERE.

There is at least two ribbons in this cabinet I’ve used on my trees. I love adding ribbon to my tree. If you’re curious about my process I have a full tutorial (with video) on how to add ribbon to your Christmas tree. I know you’ll find it helpful. You can find that post HERE.

Okay, I think I’ve covered all of the possible questions (feel free to leave more in the comment section below), so let me show you my Christmas ribbon cabinet!

Here she is in all her glory.

I did a rough count and there are about 80 spools of ribbon (or twine) tucked into this little cabinet.

I’m not sure why, but this just brings me so much joy. And it’s not just about ribbon; I love the idea of a carefully crafted collection too. A collection says a lot about it’s collector. These items weren’t chosen randomly. They sparked joy. They stirred an emotion. They meant something. They stood out among the other options.

And in this case, while I know it’s just ribbon, I suppose it’s also about the journey, the collecting, and the hunting.

If you like this cabinet, stay tuned as I will be doing a full tour of this room all decked out for Christmas. In fact, I already shared how I decorated the mantel which you can see HERE.

Curious about what I put in this cabinet the rest of the year? Well, I decided to start a collection of vintage tins. I’ve been building this up over the past year or so and I think it looks pretty great! Here’s a look at how it’s filled the rest of the year.

How to Make Whipped Shortbread Cookies:

Begin by preheating your oven to 300 degrees F.

In a large bowl, cream together the butter and confectioners’ sugar until light and fluffy – I recommend using a stand mixer, but a hand mixer will work just fine. (I’ve shared ingredient amounts and instructions in the printable recipe card below.)

Next, add in the salt and vanilla extract. Beat again to combine. You can also use almond extract here if you wish. Both are delicious!

Gradually add the flour and cornstarch and beat to combine.

Take one tablespoon of dough and roll it into a ball with your hands. Place balls one inch apart on an ungreased baking sheet. Press lightly with a floured fork. Top with sprinkles or nonpareils. As you can see, I used a varieties of “sprinkles.”
