Weekend Wanderlust: No. 23

I’m sort of in a mid-summer slump. To be honest, that is just a nice way of saying that I’m a hot mess. My diet is out of whack, my motivation is at an all-time low, plus a recent barrage of other general crappiness – not to mention I’m turning the big 3-0 in less than two weeks. I can’t even. Anyway, that’s my own issue to deal with. Anyone else feeling the same? Here’s what kept me busy (and temporarily out of the doldrums) this past weekend.

Wear – This just may be my new favorite shirt. If you’d like to rock the same awesomeness, you can find it here.

Snuggle – During the summer months it’s rather unusual to find my kitties snuggled together. Thankfully, I had my phone in hand when this magical moment occurred.

Drink – Okay, so Cupcake Vineyards makes some of my favorite wines and I don’t care who knows it. I was so happy to see this little guy pop up. I have yet to open it, but it sounds delicious. Thanks to all of you who recommended it via Instagram. What’s your favorite winery?

Celebrate – This past weekend was our annual family reunion at my dad’s. This year, we had more people than I’ve seen in a long time. It was a blast hanging out with my family. That’s my Dad, my brothers, my nephews and niece and me.

Bake – For the reunion, I whipped up another cake-in-jar. Remember my last one? This one was an Ooey-Gooey Chocolate Butterfinger Cake. It was pretty incredible, but I failed to take any pictures. (Evidence of what I said above – midsummer slump, hot mess, crappiness!?). I guess I will just have to make another one. Stay tuned for the recipe.

Dip – My friends and I stopped for some ice cream at the local DQ. It was one of those-wish-it-could-last-forever summer evenings – cotton candy skies and a vanilla ice cream cone dipped in cherry sauce. Perfection!

Flip – Thanks to multiple recommendations from The Handmade Mama, a.k.a. Maggie, I decided to try the new Key Lime Crumble from Chobani. Um, they are brilliant. Maybe if I start eating more of these and less cake-in-jar and ice cream, I might get my diet a little more on track.

Decorate – Last but not least, I worked on some new posts for my friends over at BHG. You know how much I love my bar cart. Well, I put together a collection of some of my favorite bar cart accessories. There is even a pig corkscrew. You can check that out here. As always, your comments there are amazing and much appreciated.

I hope you all had a fabulous summer weekend. What kept you busy?

I am sorry to hear you are feeling “slumpish”. I would never have guessed it. This is such a bright & cheery place. Thanks for that. I like your weekend wanderlusts. I look at my weekends differently now. Honestly, instead of always trying to create these incredible, fun filled, family time packed, never a dull moment weekends, I have slowed down and let them happen on their own. I think your wanderlust posts reminded me that we could do those things but if we didn’t take a second to step back and at least take a mental snapshot it was all wasted. Again, thanks.

Enjoy your upcoming special day and treat yourself well! 30’s are fantastic.

Awww! That’s awesome! I’m so glad you enjoy them and are taking advantage of your own weekends!

And everyone keeps saying 30’s are fantastic. I sure hope they are right. 😉

    Hi Michael,
So sorry to hear about your mid summer slump….yes, I get it. Although my slump has taken up residence elsewhere for the time being. I just want to tell you, I remember when I turned 30. Depression, slump, I found it so hard to believe that I was entering into the next chapter, my 30’s and how awful that made me feel. Until I realized that there really was no other option and to embrace it with grace and thankfulness that I was actually given the opportunity to experience it. Let me tell you, it only gets better, Michael. Embrace it! Life is what you make of it, do not give in to the depression that tried to rob me of one of the greatest chapters of my life. Happy 30’s!

Very well said Sue. Thank you! That’s my goal – to embrace 30. Hopefully, my 30s will be some of the best years of my life.

Thanks for sharing your story. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate it!

    Hi Micheal,

I feel the same way. I have so many incomplete tasks staring me in my face daily. I can’t seem to get’em done. I finally convinced myself that I’ve lost my ambition that I once had. I’m not sure where it’s all coming from, but I’m going to keep {loving} along. Thirty is fabulous by the way!

By the way I love your pics. Do you mind sharing what type of camera you use?

I’m learning the best way to get out of a slump is to try changing things up a little bit. Healthier foods, a new morning routine, a little more exercise. It seems to be working. I hope you find your ambition! Maybe a new hobby?

Thanks for the picture love! I use a Canon Rebel T1i. (Thought I’d like to upgrade in the next year or two.) 80% of my shots I take with my Canon Macro Lens EF 100mm. Hope that helps!

Yes, Michael…I too feel the same “mid-summer slump”! I am hoping this leaves me very soon. Don’t fret over turning 30. Honey, we get better as we age. It is a new chapter for you, and you are going to make it fabulous; this I know.

    • Michael Wurm, Jr. at

Yes. Yes. Thank you. I’m certainly trying to embrace 30 with open arms. I greatly appreciate your encouragement!

Sorry about your slump…been there, that’s for sure! It WILL pass, hopefully sooner than later. Just snuggle up with your cute kitties and a BIG spoonful of your Ooey-gooey Chocolate Butterfinger cake, and surely you’ll feel better:)

    • Michael Wurm, Jr. at

Thanks Sue! That sounds like a perfect plan.

I know what you mean. Commuting a kid for a summer job to outskirts of D.C. everyday has worn on me. Not to mention that everything seems to need fixing in this house. Hot mess indeed!

    • Michael Wurm, Jr. at

Ack. Sorry you are in the same boat. I’m learning that I’m the only one that can get myself out of it. Hope you find a way to enjoy the rest of your summer!

      xo Michael
