As I mentioned yesterday, last Thursday I joined my friends from BHG and hundreds of volunteers from the Meredith Corporation, Lowes, Rebuilding Together, and Crate and Barrel to work on rebuilding a community devastated by Hurricane Sandy. Our efforts were focused on several homes in Gerritsen Beach, Brooklyn.
It was such a joy and honor to be able to assist these families who so deserved and appreciated the help.
After several inspiring and motivating speeches. we got to work. Split up in teams, our focus was a house located on Melba Court where the homeowners Dominic and Susan also pitched in! At this particular site, the volunteers rebuilt a garden, added a fence, painted the interior, installed tile, and even sided the house. Actually, that was my project. I teamed up with Liz Frantz, BHG’s Social Media Editor and Gayle Butler, the Editor-in-Chief to put new siding on the house. It was hard work, but we had a blast. It was a huge honor to work beside these talented and giving ladies.
At the end of the day, the place was truly starting to come together. It was quite magical. It began to look like a home again.
Once the project is completely finished, I’ll be sure toshare more photos. You may even see the space in the pages of BHG Magazine.
