vintage food mill turned planter

A couple weeks ago, this post from the always inspiring Design*Sponge, popped up on my blog roll and I was instantly in love with idea. Turning a vintage food mill into a planter … put it on a table … instant (and beautiful) summer centerpiece.

So i searched and searched at a couple antique shops with no luck finding what i needed. I headed to the ever trusty Ebay, and there they were, vintage food mills (some also labeled as colanders and/or strainers) lots of them … calling my name!

I answered! I actually answer several times buying two for me and one for my mom. These things happen when a good great idea strikes.

I planted mine with a scarlet colored plant (known to me as ‘a million bells’) and this fun indoor plant/vine that I originally saw here. Sorry, I’m not sure what it’s called. Apparently, she doesn’t either. I’m hoping to bring the whole thing inside when the weather changes. We’ll see.

I’m super happy with the way it looks: simple, pretty, unique. What’s not to love?

    MY kinda planter for sure!

That’s actually an applesauce strainer. My mom had one identical to it. 🙂 All that’s missing is the wooden rolling pin that spins the fruit around inside.
