It’s been a while since I showed you around my guest bedroom. That’s mostly because not much has changed. I do have a few little updates, so I thought I’d share them with you today. Then, the next time we take a look at this space, I hope it will be pretty close to complete … or at least I’ll have linens on the bed. Am I a horrible blogger for continuing to show you this space without bed linens!? #rebel
Now for a look at the bedroom progress. Most notably, I picked up a rug for the space. As you can see, I married the two design options I shared with you earlier.
I have to tell you I’m kind of bummed about this rug. (Rug details HERE.)
Yes, it works beautifully in the space. The colors are spot on. Plus, it looks super soft (and it is), and it’s a great size. However, at this particular moment, I’m terribly disappointed with the quality. It’s shedding like crazy, and because of the shedding, the marvelous design and colors appear blurry.
It looks better from certain angles, but it’s still bumming me out. I’m going to see how much it sheds after a few more runs with the vacuum and go from there. I understand that new rugs tend to shed a bit, but this seems excessive. Whomp. Whomp.
Still, from a how-it-looks-and-feels-standpoint, I do like it.
The next new item is this cool trunk that I found at T.J. Maxx a couple weeks ago. It was on clearance, and I thought it could make a unique side table. Plus, I love all of the hidden storage. (A place to stash my excess collection of throw pillow is essential.)
Finally, this past weekend, I started cleaning out my attic and garage. I was starting to feel like a hoarder. I ended up selling and giving away three dressers, multiple chairs, cabinets I never used, a Christmas tree, etc. It felt so good to clear the space and pass these things to new homes.
During this furniture shuffle, I moved a dresser up into this guest bedroom. I had this piece in mind for this room for a while. It’s solid wood and in decent shape. Plus, I adore the details. It’s the perfect touch of vintage.
Beyond touching up a couple of nicks and scratches and possibly changing out the hardware (I’m thinking these would be great.), I think it’s good to go. It’s already storing some out-of-season clothes, so I’m happy about that.
I also pulled the round mirror from my attic. I think it will work great above the dresser. I just need to hang it on the wall when I get a few more details figured out.
I’m loving being able to shop from my own house!
Finally, I was starting to get worried about the light fixture. As I’ve mentioned, I bought the fixture for this room many years ago. Instead of buying something new, I wanted to give this piece a shot in the space. As I started adding in more elements, I just wasn’t sure the style or color was going to work. So, I decided to test some things out. I brought in a few books in the same color tones as my glamorous chandelier. Lo and behold, they brought it all together. It’s amazing how one small tweak can make something work for the good. Right? I think this chandy might just work out after all.
I think that’s it for today. Consider yourself officially updated. Next time I promise to add some bed linens.
