Can you believe it’s almost mid-May? If I could, I’d pause the clock at this point so I could do all of my summer prep and then enjoy the season when it finally arrives. Wouldn’t that be nice?
Since I can’t stop time, I thought I’d just put together a list of 6 Tips to Prepare Your Home for Summer.
Created in Partnership with Charmin.
1. Get Organized
There’s a reason for spring cleaning. After a long winter, it’s an opportunity to give everything a deep cleaning. And when you’re moving things to clean, it’s also chance to get organized.
On the next rainy day, take a few minutes to rid yourself of some of your excess stuff. Having less allows you to put everything in its place, which helps you to get and stay organized. I know that one of the biggest battles I had in my previous home was not having a designated spot for a lot of items. This made it too easy for things to get and stay messy.
And don’t forget about the garage!
However, when things are organized, returning items to where they belong is easy and quick, giving you more time to enjoy what you love most about summer!
2. Stock up on Essentials
It’s likely you’ll be hosting a party or an event at your house, even if it’s a small get-together. Before summer hits, I like to stock up on all the essentials: paper towels, paper plates, plastic cutlery, cleaning supplies, batteries, and toilet paper.
And speaking of toilet paper (which admittedly feels like a funny thing to say), I have a fantastic deal to tell you about, if like me, you’re looking to stock up.
Right now on Amazon, Charmin is offering a $3 savings on their 24 count Charmin Family Mega Roll Ultra Strong Clean Touch or Ultra Soft Cushiony Touch.
Use the coupon code: 3MEGACHARMIN
There’s even an additional coupon that can be applied at checkout for a total savings of $5! I love a good deal!
Plus, 1 Charmin Family Mega Roll = 5+ Charmin Regular Rolls (based on the number of sheets).
And although you may think that’s a crazy thing to think about right now, running out of toilet paper is not something you want to happen when you have guests. Am I right?
Make a list of all your essentials and plan ahead!
3. Be Party Ready
When you’re stocking up, get yourself party ready, too!
-Keep lots of beverages and snacks on hand for impromptu gatherings.
-Make sure the grill is clean and has plenty of propane.
-Clean the outdoor chairs and cushions.
-Check outdoor lighting and candles. Purchase a new lighter.
-Pick up a few outdoor games to entertain guests.
-Stock up on bug spray and sunblock.
Also, take a few minutes to clean and freshen up your entryway. This is often people’s first impression of your home. A thorough cleaning, a couple potted plants, and a pretty wreath go a long way!
4. Invite Summer Indoors
Another way I like to prep my home for the summer is to bring the outdoors in. I do this by picking up a few new indoor plants, creating a little herb garden in my kitchen, or cutting a few blooms from the garden to style the coffee table.
This is also the time to clean all your window and door screens. You want to make sure they are ready for those beautiful days when you want to let the fresh air in.
5. Do Preventative Maintenance
These might be the least fun things on your “Get-Ready-for-Summer List,” but they might also be the most important.
Take time now to inspect the following:
-Air-conditioning unit(s)
-Lawn equipment
-Hot water tank
-Outdoor grills/fire pits
It’s especially important to check out things you haven’t used during the winter to ensure they are functioning properly. We all know how frustrating it can be to have the air-conditioning break down on the hottest summer day. Prevent what you can and then plan ahead in case of a problem.
6. Dress-up Outdoor Living Space
Since the warm and sunny days are an invitation to spend time outdoors, spiff up your outdoor spaces for maximum function and comfort.
Does your deck or patio need to be cleaned or re-stained? Do it now while the weather is still mild and before you fill the space with furniture and plants.
Pillows, cushions, and throws add comfort and style. Or maybe you enjoy dining al fresco? Set up a table and dining chairs. Get ready now for the season so you can enjoy the summer months to their fullest.
And that’s it, my friends! I hope my list of tips for preparing your home for summer is helpful.
While I’m certain there are many more things you can do to plan and prepare, start with these so you’re ready to relax and make a summer full of great memories! (And don’t forget to stock up on that Charmin!)

You are so right about toilet paper. When I hear that someone is ill or has a sick spouse/partner, I always include toilet paper in my care kit. No one wants to run out for it when they are having company or caring for others. I live in Florida. It is always summer, and what did we run out of on our Memorial Day party? Propane gas! Excellent tips.
I love your deck space, Michael!! we also love and buy Charmin mega rolls, thanks for coupon code – I just ordered!!
Thank you!! And yes, it’s so nice to be stocked up on certain things.
