I’m pretty sure I have one too many projects going on around here. Oh well. It keeps me on my toes. I thought I might show you my new dinning room table today and ask for some advice on chairs, but I haven’t taken any pictures yet. There are still a few boxes of Gift Shoppe merchandise that need to find a home somewhere else. So, we will get to the table and the chairs question later this week or next.

You may remember that last week I mentioned I was collecting frames for a little gallery wall project in my hall.  Well, I’m finally ready to get started.

I don’t have all the frames, artwork, or pictures I need, but I have to start laying out the frames so I can determine what other sizes I’m going to need. Some of the spaces are pretty tight, so this could get a little tricky.

I’m pulling most of my inspiration from the gallery wall that Young House Love created in their hall. I have been in love with it since the moment I saw it. Of course, my area is much, much smaller.

To keep it organized, I plan to hang everything within a “band” that wraps around the space.

I’m going to use painters tape to mark off my “band” as illustrated in the pictures above. The frames and art will stay in those lines and the edges of the outer pieces of art work will line up with the edges of the tape creating a more deliberate look. Hopefully. This is just the plan.

Anyway, that’s my hall and wall before. Let’s hope I can wrap up this project prior to Thanksgiving. I”d like to host my first family and friends holiday party here – a Thanksgiving Eve Mixer. Sounds like fun, right?

I love gallery walls. I put one in my living room years ago but have never been satisfied with it. Not sure what it is but it’s never “popped” enough. It’s on my long list of projects. Thanks for sharing your ideas and for the link to Young House Love.

Love gallery walls. I think it will look great. While you are painting the posts throw some trim up on the wall then place the gallery above it. Some trim/wainscoting would give the area more depth.

    Have fun!

I’m a big fan of gallery walls, but I am nervous to tackle one. I just would want to be sure everything was evenly spaced and straight, so they intimidate me but I think that they look so great!!

I love my gallery wall, it continues to evolve and change with the rest of the house. Looking great Michael, thank you for the inspiration!!

The gallery wall idea is a good one – I had two in my old house and enjoyed them.

Michael, please don’t paint that lovely newel post (large railing post). You have natural wood showing on the treads and banister and you see how lovely they look with the white balusters. Newel posts like yours are not common and it has such a lovely look – you may lose some of the pop of the stairway. Just one woman’s opinion — no disrespect intended.

Defining the space makes sense. Photo galleries can easily get out of control
