Hey there, friends! I hope you had a truly wonderful weekend. It’s hard to believe it was the last weekend in July. Where is the summer going?
It was a pretty good weekend here. On Saturday my friends and I visited Tasting In the Wilds, a local wine and beer festival. We try to get there every year and always have a fabulous time.
I didn’t play all weekend, though. I’m pleased to report that I made some progress in my bedroom. As with my closet, this room needed crown molding, so I cut and installed that on Friday.
Also, I decided to move the ceiling light. When this home was turned into a B&B, walls were added so that closets could be repurposed as bathrooms. The result was that a couple of the ceiling light fixtures were off center. Because of the planned location of the bed in this room, it drove me bananas, so it had to be moved.
Moving the fixture meant that I had to patch a rather large whole in the ceiling. I spent most of the weekend patching, sanding, waiting for the spackle to dry, and cleaning up the dust. A dirty job, but someone has to do it.
I was hoping to at least get the ceiling painted, but it just didn’t happen. So, I’m now planning on carving out some time this week to get the entire room painted. Then, I can finally move onto the fun stuff!
While this isn’t too exciting, nonetheless it’s progress.
Also, I’m trying to figure out what light fixture to get for this space. I’d like something a bit different that is light and airy. Right now I’m considering these two: this Gold Capiz Chandelier from West Elm or a large (left), round capiz shell pendant from Restoration Hardware (right). Again, the color palette for this space is jewel tones.
I like both. I’m obviously attracted to the gold one because you know me and gold. A friend of mine said it was too feminine, but as you can tell from my existing style, I don’t really care too much about that. I prefer blurring those lines when it comes to decor.
Let me know what you think. Have you been loving any particular light fixtures lately that you think might look fab in my new space? I love picking out lighting, so it’s killing me I don’t already have something for this space. Help!

The one on the left!!! You should try and DIY your own version:) I am sure you would do an excellent job at it.
I have the capiz in the white color and love it! And my friend just got the gold one and it’s beautiful! The only caveat about these lights is that if there is a window open or a draft coming through, they do chime (which is a pretty sound) and I worry about the shells getting all caught up on themselves. My lights live in my mud room so they don’t see many drafts but in a bedroom where windows might be open more (or open at night), the chiming noise might be a factor to consider.
I love, love, love your blog! I vote for the gold fixture on the left of the page. Can you tell me a source for the wooden headboard shown in the image with the gray-painted walls and that fixture? Loooooove your posts!
Lynn – the picture is from West Elm, so I assume the headboard can be purchased on their site. Hope that helps.

Go for the gold. Love it!
Don’t think I’ve ever commented, but oooooooh that gold chandelier is SO beautiful!! Cant wait to see pics of the finished room (love your style!)
I LOVE the gold capiz!! I do not see it as feminine at all but it is quite a neutral piece actually. I mean I can see how the globe could be cool but the gold chandy just looks so much more dramatic and chic! Love it!
Thanks! 🙂

I like the whimzy of the gold chandy. I think a lot of the decision is based on scale, which is difficult to determine from my side of the laptop. Also, are the other accessories going to remain the same? It may be a little over the top with lots of pattern, but what the heck I like it anyway. 🙂
I am voting for the Gold Capiz Chandelier from West Elm. I do not think it is feminine; saw it in a few other bedrooms on Pinterest. It is more bold and unique. I liked the round capiz pendant light, but it just seems too big.
Thanks for your vote! 🙂

Have you thought about the Capiz Orb pendant from West Elm? It’s similar to the Restoration Hardware fixture, but I really like the honeycomb pattern on it: http://www.westelm.com/products/capiz-orb-pendants-w872/
Love the gold and the proportion is a better size, if we can really tell from the pictures. Love your blog. If I need ideas, I know where to come.
I actually like the globe better, but proportionally, from looking at the picture, and in relation to the objects around it, it seems far too big for over your bed. Just a guess without actual measurements. Can’t wait to see the finished reveal!
Thanks Alice! It does come in a smaller size. So that shouldn’t be an issue if I decide to go that direction. Thank you again!

Personally, I really like the Capiz Chandelier from West Elm. Much prettier and more glam. It’s much more of a statement piece, and I don’t think I would tire of it as much as I would the round one from RH.
Can’t wait to see the finished room! Your interior design posts are my favourites!
Good luck!
Thanks so much for your input! Such tough designs! And I’m so happy to hear you lie the design posts.

I like the one that looks like dangling gold leaf myself and I want the bed too.
That bed looks so comfy. What brand is it?
Thanks! It’s Sealy Postrurepedic. 🙂

I love the globe and from a practical standpoint it would be much easier to keep clean and dusted. Nothing feminine about either of these fixtures. Both are beautiful and functional. You can’t go wrong with either one. I love following all the great things you are doing to your charming home. Thanks for sharing.
Love the round capiz shell light fixture!
I love them both but feel that the globe would look better with the fixture you have in the new closet…
L.O.V.E both chandies! Not feminine at all. Classy!
Can I ask where you got your bed frame and mattress ( it looks soooo comfy!!!). My fiancé and I are bed shopping right now and I feel like I’ve exhausted all my options.
PS love the West Elm light!
xx Ashley
Haha. Thanks for noticing my bed! It’s a Sealy Posturepedic with a pillow top. I actually purchased through the Four Seasons Hotel when I worked for them several years ago. Hope that helps!

Thanks, Michael! 😀
Michael,
I don’t think the light fixture is feminine. I think it’s fabulous! A pink lace chandelier with unicorns now that might be considered feminine 🙂
You are amazing at picking out light fixtures! I love every last light in your house…even your closet has the best light!! I personally love the gold chandelier. Whether it matters or not, I don’t think it looks too feminine. The picture you included where it shows it in a bedroom doesn’t look feminine at all! I really like the other light too, but that gold one has just got that something extra special!
Awww! You are so sweet! I love picking them out. And I agree with you on the gold fixture! Decisions. Decisions.
