I’m always interested in learning about people’s favorite things: How they like their coffee, what’s their favorite movie, what type of peanut butter they prefer, what’s their top place to shop, and so on. For me, it’s a wonderful way to learn more about a person I admire AND at the same time, discover things I might like to try or do.

With that in mind, I thought I’d create a new series here on Inspired by Charm where I share a few of my favorite things. Depending on whether you love or hate this idea, I’ll share some of my favorites every couple weeks. Sound good?

In each post, I’ll share two lists: one will feature my current favorites and the other will highlight a few of my all-time favorites. I’ll keep my lists short so it’s not too much information at once. Here’s hoping you’ll discover some new things as you learn a little more about me.

Current Favorites

Favorite Fruit: Sumo Oranges
I talked about Sumo Citrus on my Instagram stories the other day. If you haven’t tried them yet, I recommend you find some ASAP. They are amazing, and I’m not sure how long they will be around. Apparently they are an orange and mandarin hybrid. They have a sweet flavor, super easy to peel, seedless and juicy without being messy. I’ve probably eaten more than 20 of them in the past few weeks, and I haven’t had a bad one yet. The only downside is the price: $2-2.50 per orange.

Favorite Read: Girl, Wash Your Face – Rachel Hollis
I may have mentioned this before, but I’m not a big reader. I prefer audiobooks because of my struggles with reading. Nevertheless, I’ve been gobbling up Rachel Hollis’ new book Girl, Wash Your Face. In less than a week, I’m almost halfway through it with plans to reread it so I can highlight my favorite parts. It’s full of life advice, self-help tips, and personal motivation. I’m a huge fan of Rachel’s writing style. She writes like she’s talking to a friend.

Favorite Record: By the Way, I Forgive You – Brandi Carlile
Brandi Carlile has been one of my favorite artists since her first album was released back in 2005. This past week she launched By the Way, I Forgive You, and this latest album doesn’t disappoint. A few of the tracks I’m loving are “The Joke,” “Whatever You Do,” and “Party of One.”

Favorite Fragrance: Y – Yves Saint Laurent
This is the newest men’s fragrance from Yves Saint Laurent. I received it as a Christmas gift and have been enjoying it ever since. It’s light and fresh – not overpowering. I think it’s the perfect choice for spring and summer. (Which reminds me, I’ve also added a Personal Style section to the SHOP IBC page. You can check that out here.)

All-Time Favorites

Favorite Starbucks Drink: White Chocolate Mocha Grande Nonfat Milk, No Whip
I get super excited every time Starbucks launches a new drink or a seasonal special. However, I have yet to find something I love more than a White Chocolate Mocha Grande Nonfat Milk No Whipped Cream. There is something about this drink that tickles my heart each time I take a sip. It does come in at 300+ calories, so it’s definitely a treat. But oh so worth it.

Favorite iPhone Game: Plants vs. Zombies
We all need a little fun in our lives, right? Although I don’t spend a lot of time playing games on my phone, I do appreciate a distraction every now and then. Plants vs. Zombies 1 & 2 have been my guilty pleasures since they launched. I don’t play the original version anymore, however, I do check into PvZ 2 every day or so to play the daily “Piñata Challenge”.

Favorite Hair Product: American Crew Fiber
Thanks to family genetics I’ve been cursed with both thin hair and a receding hairline. As much as I would love to sport a cool pompadour, I’ve come to appreciate the hair I do have. Through the years, I’ve tried countless products that don’t live up to the hype. However, I have been using American Crew Fiber for more than 10 years and still love it. It gives my hair some texture and sheen as I style it.

Favorite Fast Food: Panda Express Orange Chicken
Because I’m currently trying to shed the few pounds I put on this winter, thoughts of Starbucks and Chinese food are swirling in my brain. Back when I was a student at Penn State (2001-2005), there was a Panda Express in one of our common areas known as the HUB. That’s when I fell in love with their Orange Chicken. For many years after I graduated it was rare for me to eat it because I didn’t live near a Panda Express restaurant. However, now that I’m in Pittsburgh, that’s changed. Needless to say, I’m not complaining. I like the Orange Chicken best paired with their lo mien noodles. Yum!

That’s my list for today, friends! I hope it gave you some ideas. Do we share any favorites things? What are some new things you’re loving?

I love Panda’s orange chicken bowl made with their steamed veggies instead of rice. Mmmmm!

I am OBSESSED with sumos! I will now check into all of your other recommendations because you clearly know what is what :). My Starbucks fave is the nitro cold brew, but I’m a minimalist.

    • Michael Wurm, Jr. at

Seeeeee, I would LOVE that too, but I haven’t seen it around here yet. I’m sure that would easily be a warm weather favorite. LOVE nitro coffee!

Now I need all of these things! I’m trying to lose my winter bulk so no orange chicken or Starbucks right now, but cheat day? I’m coming for it! Thanks for an inspiring post, Michael! You’re my favorite!

Trying to find the oranges in Ohio. Hope I am not too late for this season. My favorite Starbucks drink right now is a tall blonde flat white. (Watching my waistline 😂). Looking forward to more of your favorite things!

Please keep up the great work on the blog! I love that you are not like the other bloggers.. Always great content, design and recipes! you have a true talent for what you do. I have stopped reading a lot of ‘diy’ bloggers because they are either pushing products (I know it’s the nature of the business), outfits of the day, or some random post on why they like a sponsored item.

Hi Michael. I think you need to develope your own recipe for orange chicken using your Sumo oranges. I think its a great way to combine 2 of your favorites.

My current favorite and weakness is the Spicy Thai Chicken Salad from Panera. It is astounding how often my car just steers itself there 🙂 Thank you for sharing your faves!

I like this series- great ideas! Thanks!

I’m a Penn State grad as well (08-12), and share your fondness and love of Panda. It was a Sunday ritual for my friends and I. I have great memories of our group scuttling over to the Stacks with to go containers of their orange chicken and lo mein.

Very cool hearing more of your background! I found you on Pinterest, and have been following ever since! I’m an event planner at Shippensburg University, not far from PSU or Pitt… your ideas inspire so many of my events! Thanks for being you! 🙂

Like the new addition of favorite things…love pa day orange chicken and going to look for the oranges..

Love this series idea! So many things I love, orange chicken is also one and the idea above by Mary to make your own with the sumo oranges! I always love your ability to put things together that might seem random but end up working so great, keep up the great work on the blog! Love it.

Michael, have you tried the Starbuck’s slightly sweetened chai tea latte (hot)? It is so delicious. Also, thank you for the info on Sumo oranges….picking some up this weekend.

  • Kathi Massaro at

My Cali friend raved about those oranges just a few weeks ago. She got hers at an organic produce store in Manhattan Beach ($$$$). I’m in NY and haven’t come across them in my local Shoprite but am curious and am still looking. Btw…what I am loving: your photography here. Beautiful. Nice job!

  • Jackie at

Haven’t found the sumos yet but I’ll keep my eyes peeled! We are Starbucks twins! Occasionally I’ll add an extra shot (or two!) I love it iced in the summer too! Look forward to more of your favorites! 💜

that was fun! as was reading all the fun comments that come your way. You throw out a lovely presence and I’ve enjoyed the read! First time I’ve commented (I think?) but I’ve been following you for a few years now. I so appreciate your admissions of self doubt…OMG…(I use the term loosely), a HUMAN blogger, living a not so perfect life. Thanks so much for your imperfections and sharing them with all of us! And miss you when you extend your absences! I am an (70y/o) older woman that likes to attempt to be current. You are a GREAT aid! Please know appreciation for you runs the gambit in age groups!

I love all your ideas and your pictures and your recipes . I can’t wait when I get a email from you to read it to see what you’ve been doing . I am a 77-year-old grandma and love keeping up with you kids . I am just now learning how to use all this technical stuff and it is so interesting.

I love this post! And I have been craving Chinese. One of the things I miss here is Panda Express. We would go there for lunch or sneak over for a 9. pm snack.

I love this new post. Love to find new things to try. My favorite orange right now is Sunkist Cara Cara (the power orange) delicious. I will have to try the sumo oranges. Some of my favorite TV shows that I’ve watched is “Black List”, and “Person of Interest”. They were so good I had to make myself not binge watch them when they were on. Will definitely have to check out what is on your list. Love, love, love your blog. Its the best!!!!

    • Debra W at

Found the sumo oranges at our local Kroger. You were so right. They are now my favorite. So good.

  • Rachel at

Fun post–I’m gonna find & try a sumo for sure.

ps. I miss the mini you that jumps out and waves at the end of your posts 🙁 where did he go?

    • Michael Wurm, Jr. at

Awww. Thank you! Someone sent me a not-so-pleasent email about it, so he’s currently retired. He may come back, but I have to give it some thought. I’m happy to know that someone misses him. 😉

      xo Michael

Sheesh, what could anyone say about it that wasn’t pleasant? …some people… who cares what they think 😉
