so on sunday, when i went to wrap my dad’s father’s day present, i realized i didn’t have any appropriate wrapping paper. in fact, the only wrapping paper i had was paper from last christmas. yikes!
so i put my thinking cap on, and here’s what i came up with.
not to shabby, right?
luckily, since i put together baskets here at old charm, i usually have plenty or ribbon on hand. so i took my left over christmas paper and used the back of it as a blank slate.
using some black paint and an empty half pint jar i covered the paper with circles.
after it dried, i wrapped it all up with some ribbon and viola!
pretty perfect, right?
now i know i’m not the mastermind that originally came up with this idea, but i thought i’d share my creation anyway.
how’d i do?

Lovely! I hadn’t though of how many household objects could make interesting stamps…
So glad I found your blog today! I’m off to peruse your archives. 🙂
My favorite wrapping paper is the brown packing paper from the dollar store 🙂 So nice job!
it looks lovely! love the black and craft paper, very stylish. i generally use a brown craft paper and if i can find polkadots i’m good too. love using the backside as well. keeps my options open. do you adore mputting together the gift baskets? i used to do book baskets and miss it!
Michael – your self-made gift wrap is absolutely ingenious. It looks downright elegant. The two type of ribbon add so much! and I adore your penmanship. Your Dad is a lucky man to have you for his son! Please tell him I said so.
I really like the circle touch. I picked up a secret like this from all places, the TV. Clinton, from What Not to Wear, once went on a rant about gifts, and never buying wrapping paper. He instead used white or brown mailing paper, or butcher paper if in a pinch, and then finished it off with ribbon, as you did as well.
I’ve always been well stocked no matter what time of year, or whatever the occasion, thanks to that little tip.
Michael…I am SO going to come back again to your blog – way too much fun. I may show up at your B&B one day with my apron on and just watch you all day, how does someone end up with so much talent and humor? I was thinking about starting a diet but I’ve chucked that idea so I can eat my way through your recipes:)
I’d say you did pert near perfect!
Love the dotted ribbon with the blue…circles!!….great handwriting to boot!
Can you wrap all my gifts for me?
It looks great! You did a fab job, as usual!
It’s muy gorgeoso, Michael. Far better than anything you can get in a store! The blue and black ribbon look fab. I’m sure your father was pleased!
Best,
Kimberly
I love it! I am such a fan of kraft paper, the perfect blank slate 🙂
Excellent. I love wrapping in white or brown craft paper. I love the way you added the black circles – very clever. They look so modern and chic with the ribbon.
My best- Diane
You did great, love it! You have the best ideas!
Debbie
Too cute…smart thinking 🙂 Laurel
Genius! Looks great! I usually prefer the kraft paper look anyway….I’ve scored some awesome patterend craft paper rolls at the Dollar Tree actually.
You did great! I love the look of brown paper on gifts. Dressing it up a little just made it even more charmimg. 🙂
I love how easy brown paper is to work with! I buy it by the roll from the dollar store and use it for everything!
I’d say genius…because I did the same thing!! 🙂
