it really feels good. what started back in may of this year has finally come to completion!
even in the ‘dead of winter’ (thought today it seems more like spring) this quilt just makes me happy. i felt the same happy feeling last may when i stumbled across this quilt via in color order. yeah, i pretty much copied borrowed her design exactly. thank you for the amazing inspiration jeni!
the patterned squares are four charm packs from urban chiks ‘dream on’ fabric line. the yellow is corn yellow from kona. the gingham blue backing is actually a vintage sheet i picked up this summer at goodwill. i used the same corn yellow for the binding.
i attached the back of the binding to the quilt by hand and i’m so glad i did. i think it looks great and i really enjoyed the process. it gave me a chance to sit and relax, which i don’t get to do very often. i worked on it over a couple nights while watching tv. perfect! Initially i wanted to machine stitch my binding, but i think i’ll be doing all my binding this way.
i still have no idea what i’m going to do with it now that it’s finished. my goal is to make one for each of my guest rooms. i just need to figure out which room i want this one to go in.
either way i just love it and can’t believe it’s mine and that i made it!
what fun projects have you been up to lately?

I love it! LOVE IT! The colors are so bright and cheerful and the style is so timeless.
And, I’m totally wanting to try hand-binding. I think it would be less stressful for me. Maybe the next one will be hand-bound. Any tips or tutorials?
Also, what happened to all the awesome squares you were sent. I want to see those together! =)

Michael! It’s gorgeous and that yellow is soooo cheery! I need to get my quilt ideas out of my head…you’re an inspiration!
Awesome! That’s beautiful!!
That quilt is a ray of absolute sunshine, Michael! Congratulations on finishing it–that’s quite an accomplishment and you’re rightly proud!
Oh, and to your question about recent crafts, I had quite a bit of fun making this dollhouse and accessories for a friend’s daughter last week:

I kind of want one for myself now! 🙂
it looks great and I agree with you…hand sewing the binding is relaxing and satisfying. My first quilt I made was for my mother in law when she was diagnosed with cancer. It was such a special project and now that she’s passed away I have the quilt back to keep in memory of the wonderful woman she was. Good luck on getting the other quilts done! Can’t wait to see them.
I LOVE it! It’s just happy. 🙂
Michael, you are a rock star!!! I love this. Can’t wait to see where you put it!
You brightened a dreary (albeit springlike)morning. What a gorgeous and happy quilt. On my list of things to do. Now I am completely inspired. Thanks for sharing your beautiful work, Pam
Just found your blog through Craft Gossip. Yay you! Love your quilt! That line of fabric is one of my favorites. I’m working on a table runner now and that binding video was perfect. Thanks for sharing your creativity!
MANY congrats on your spectacular accomplishment. I will FINALLY finish my first quilt this weekend, so I totally understand the pride and relief you are feeling now that yours is complete. Will you make another one??
I absolutely love it!! You really did a great job. I’ve been wanting to give this same quilt style a try and seeing yours makes me want to start right away. Thanks for the inspiration!
I love that quilt! It’s so happy and cheerful. Job well done!
Micheal I love to see guys taking an interest in what is typically a “women’s” hobby! I would like you to look at the following blog http://www.sewcalgal.blogspot.com/
it is so fun. We are learning free motion quilting and I think you could check it out and see it that interest you at all.
OMG That is so sunny and beautiful. I have never thought of taking up quilting but seriously this may change my mind!
I love your first quilt, love the colors and the use of an old sheet. Have fun with others. I do quilt and I also put the binding on by hand. The feeling of joy that you get with the last stitch… Have you tried the quilt wall? Hang a vinyl tablecloth backwards and your pattern will stick to it, no more on the floor.
And it is easy to see and fast.
