Hidden Treasure Adventure

I just wanted to pop in today with this short but oh-so exciting FYI post. I’m headed out on an adventure. GMC has invited me and some fellow bloggers to participate in their annual Hidden Treasure Adventure.

What is the Hidden Treasure Adventure? Let me explain. It begins today. I’ll be meeting up with GMC and the other bloggers in Detroit, Michigan. We will then spend four days traveling the World’s Longest Yard Sale (700 miles of yards sales, people). Along the way, each of us will be shopping for furnishings and decor for a specific room in a house. When we get to Atlanta, Georgia, (after we’ve shopped our hearts out and depleted our limited budget), we will decorate and furnish a Habitat for Humanity home for a deserving family.

GMC has been doing this Hidden Treasure Adventure for the past several years. I’m so excited to be a part of this joy-filled philanthropic event. The homeowners have no idea their home will be fully furnished until they step inside. Since most of these families have few possessions, it’s an exciting day for them.

This afternoon we are meeting to learn more about the family, get our room assignments, and meet the awesome blogging crew that’s turning the house into a home. And then we’re off!

The map below shows the approximate path we’re following. So, if you happen to be attending the yard sale or live along the route, please shoot me a message! It would be so much fun to say, “Hello!”

In talking to other bloggers who have participated in the event, the schedule is pretty intense with not much down time. Nonetheless, I am going to make an honest attempt to pop back in here at least once to share my/our progress. Then, next week, I’ll wrap everything up and show you my space.

If you can’t wait until then, love going to yards sales, or just want to follow along, there are several ways to do that.

First, I’ll be sharing what I can via Snapchat @inspiredbycharm. Lately, this has been the easiest way for me to share moments, glimpses of projects, and short videos.

I’ll also be posting updates on InstagramTwitter, and Facebook. So, you can follow along there as well.

Finally, there’s an app (yes, another one!) that recently came out called Periscope. You can find me @inspiredbycharm. I’m on the app, but have yet to use it. It’s a live broadcast video. It seems pretty fun, but I haven’t tested it. It seems that some of the other bloggers who are participating in the adventure will be using it, so I might jump on the bandwagon. So, be sure to add me there. Just in case.

Finally, if you want to follow the group as a whole, you can search the hashtag #GMCHTA on Instagram and Twitter.

I’m off! Hope to see you there (or here)!

Thank you for supporting Habitat for Humanity. I am a “Habitater” πŸ™‚ and have been in my home 9 years. There are truly no words to describe being done with horrendous rentals or worse and stepping into your own home and knowing your family will be safe. Where I am they don’t do anything like this! I think it’s an absolutely awesome thing to do! You guys are touching lives so deeply and you may never know the full impact. Thank you, again!

I have heard about this sale. What a wonderful opportunity to shop for and serve the greater good. Good luck and happy trails.

This sounds so fun! I kind of wish I could see the Cinci part but I’ll be out of town πŸ™

That sounds like so much fun. I hope you will be able to buy a few little things for yourself too. Can’t wait to see the end product. This has been on my bucket list for a long time and one day I will get to do it too. Have fun.

Wow!!! I would LOVE to be in your shoes doing this. Sounds like fun. So much to see, so little time. I would be saying “I want that and that and that”!And ending it on a happy note by helping a family with Habitat for Humanity. You guys are great. πŸ™‚

LOVE that you’re doing this for a deserving Habitat family. Know they (and all of us from your post) will love your design for them.
You always know how to keep the F.U.N. in life (because there’s still a little bit of the FUN KID in you – as evidenced by “so excited” & “and then w’er off” in this post — and so many of your inspired designs, recipes, etc). Don’t ever lose that creative whimsy (aka FUN) in your design and your life – your fun bits are what make you different & elevate everything you do to memorable.

How cool, and what an awesome opportunity! My husband is a yard sale fanatic, so I’ll make sure to NOT tell him about this. Ha! Otherwise, I know where and when we’d be taking our family vacation next year. πŸ™‚ Have a great time — can’t wait to see your finds!

How FUN!! I LOVE that it is for such a great cause. Have fun shopping till you drop!

Whoa! It does sound like fun! I ‘visited’ several yard sales when in the US and I love English charity shops but 700 miles? It’s for professionals only! Kids don’t do it at home! πŸ˜‰
