Okay, so I’m not really taking names, but I am hanging chairs.
As you may have guessed from my recent posts, I’m on a mission to complete some projects in my house. Why I picked the middle of summer to do this is beyond my own comprehension. However, things are getting finished, so I not going to complain.
In addition to putting a few things on the walls in my living room / office (which I’m making progress on), there are a few other small tasks I wanted to tackle. The first one is filling up a corner behind the island in my office. I went back and forth about what to put in this area, but couldn’t get the thought of a hanging chair out of my head.
Hanging chairs have been popping up all over the blogosphere lately, and I was ready to embrace this trend. Let’s take a look.
I think one of the first spaces I saw one indoors was via Emily Henderson (my design goddess).
I’ve also spotted hanging chairs on A Beautiful Mess a few times. image source
Apartment Therapy.
And Oh Happy Day.
Despite my initial indecision, the choice was really simple. A hanging chair in the corner of my office was the solution to my empty space.
Voila!
While this corner is still lacking artwork and a big punch of color, I’m totally in love with my hanging chair.
I ordered this one from Serena & Lily. Thus far, I’ve been extremely impressed with the quality. And, as you can imagine, it arrived in a huge shipping box., probably the biggest I’ve ever received.
I used a heavy duty eye-hook to hang the chair from the ceiling. After using a stud finder to locate a stud, I drilled a hole and screwed the hook in. The chair included a rope, so in less than fifteen minutes, my chair was hung and feeling amazingly sturdy. I assume there is a weight limit, but the chair has no problem supporting me.
I’m hoping to style it up a bit with a more vibrant pillow and maybe a sheepskin throw. I’d also like some sort of small table and lamp under the window. I’m on the hunt!
All-in-all I’m super excited about my new hanging chair. I can’t wait to snuggle in it with a cup of coffee and my laptop in the morning or a glass of wine and a magazine in the evening. It’s the perfect little spot.
What do you think of the hanging chair trend? Would you take a swing?
Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!

Do you have issue keeping your chair facing out? Just hung ours with a single rope and it’s always turned inward. Wondering if the rope will finally “settle”
Which knot did you use? I’m trying to figure out how to hang and knot this swing. Thanks!
Hi! I am considering buying this chair but it is really hard to find reviews of it online! I am considering it for a nursery–do you think its been easy to get in and out of, and is it pretty comfortable? I appreciate your feedback and it looks beautiful!
Alyssa, of all the hanging chairs, I would recommend this one. It seems really durable and sturdy. My brother, who pushes 300lbs, fit in it perfectly. In terms of comfort, you will need some pillows, padding, or blankets for extended sitting. I think it’s more of a statement piece than a functional chair. I didn’t find myself spending a lot of time in it. Hope that helps!

Any chance you can still tell us how to tie that knot to make it secure??? Thanks!
Hi! I just recently got the hanging chair from Serena and lily and put it in a corner of my sunroom. It always turns around to face the wall. Do you have any suggestions for how to fix this?
Where can I purchase this chair, it’s amazing!!
Hi Michael, So I have the chair, and can’t figure out whether I should hang it in the girls’ playroom (my original intention) or if I should take the plunge and put it in the living room. What are your thoughts?
Hi Michael! I am about to hang the same chair and was wondering what type of knot did you use to tie the rope? Love your blog! Thanks, Stephanie
Where did you get your bamboo blinds? I am indecisive on roman shades vs bamboo.
Hey Kayla. They are from Select Blinds. You can get more deets here: https://inspiredbycharm.com/2014/01/un-decorated.html

Yay! I found the hanging chair post! I think I’m going to go for it, Michael. I’ve been eyeing these forever, and I’m ready to take the plunge. First thing to do, though, is to make sure there’s a stud in the right place. THANKS! I’m so inspired by your home’s decor! Love it!
Heck yes Michael! Love the solution to use the hanging chair in the corner. It looks just like it was always meant to be!
Love the chair Mike. Looks great and lots of fun!
I love this! Maybe it ‘s the kid in me, but I want one so badly! It looks really great in your room.
Thanks so much Sue! Keep your eye open at thrift stores and HomeGoods too. I’ve heard of people finding them there. I wasn’t so lucky. Ha!

I love hanging chairs but I’ve always been too scared to actually hang one.
I was too, but it’s so fun! And if you find a floor board stud, it’s very secure.

Adore the chair! The Fiddle Leaf Fig is totally fabulous too, I’m on the hunt for one for my place 🙂 Your office looks so homey and peaceful!!
Thanks so much! I’ll be talking Fiddle Leaf Fig soon! 🙂

I did not know there was a trend with the hanging chair. I have always wanting one, maybe because my best friend had one at her parents house.
Your place look amazing
Maybe it’s just a trend in my world. Hahaha. And thank you!

I bet a ceramic stool would be nice and simple beside it! I love the look of that chair- the bamboo is gorgeous! Looks like the perfect place to nap and get some inspiration 🙂
Wow! Love your new hanging chair and it goes in that corner perfectly! Is it really comfortable, Michael? It looks like it has a very nice shape to it in the lower back area. How fun it will be to sit in the evenings and gently sway away the cares of the day while enjoying your favorite libation! 🙂
I love your hanging chair! When I lived at the beach I had one installed on my balcony and it was my favorite place for just what you said: coffee in the morning and a glass of wine in the evening watching the sunset. I know your will get your money’s worth in pure enjoyment.
