ooh, i’m so excited. this is the first week for my lovely friend kim’s dare to diy blog party. the first week was was a dare to create a thanksgiving project.

i’m not a huge thanksgiving decorator. it’s sort of a forgotten holiday as christmas sweeps in quickly around here. so, this challenge was particularly tough.

but, the other day, while shoppin’ around the local goodwill, i found this amazing mirror! it was priced at $2.99 and they were having 50% off everything. crazy, i know. so for about a buck and two quarters, here’s what i came up with.

a chalkboard serving tray! tada.

now, i know what you’re thinking, ‘this isn’t thankgiving-y’. i know. i know. but the pumpkins help, right? …and the cocktail … apple cider topped with prosecco. yum! and that’s festive!

and it’s so pretty. i just removed the mirror. there was wood behind it, so i spray painted that part with chalkboard paint. then painted the frame lacquer white, then reassembled. i also sprayed some mini pumpkins white. cute!

when you’re not using this lovely guy as a tray it can be hung on the wall as a great chalkboard. i love multi use items.

i also update my homemade prints in my kitchen. this was the before. you can seem them closer up here.

LOVE.THEM.MICHAEL. The tray is amazing…it’s crazy to find one so ornate that is so symmetrical! It’s like it was intended all along to be used as handles!! And the prints…swooning. One more project I’ll have to copy. 😉

I LOVE the frame/tray! The ornate script edge is perfect for a tray, and the white really makes it pop. I could see that selling in a trendy little shop for $40. The prints are great too- little touches make all the difference. A+

I love, love, love the tray! I would never have thought of using a frame for a tray, but it is perfect.

And the prints are fantastic. Love all of them.

    The tray is amazing!

And why does everyone’s Goodwill seem to have great finds, while mine just has junk? Seriously, no amount of spraypaint can save the stuff at my Goodwill.

LOVE it!! I’ve been semi-stalking my local Goodwill for an awesome frame but haven’t been quite so lucky. (Well, there was one almost-find but I wasn’t willing to spend $10 on it. Just seemed wrong.) Your prints are also quite awesome.

Freakin genius! And once again, I’m green with envy at another blogger’s awesome goodwill find. Mine just stinks…literally & figuratively. But I love it! And a cocktail makes any project festive.

Oh and great diy prints too! Too funny, I made a Thanksgiving version of the Keep Calm poster too…using it next week’s Dare.

This looks amazing. Although, I’m not at all surprised, Michael. You are so awesome. Love the tray, and love that it’s versatile enough for many seasons.

And, do you think it’s too early for fancy cider? Cause I’ve got a jonesing for one.

And the keep calm and eat on print??? I’M DYING OVER HERE. Just love it.

Thanks for joining in. The party will definitely be better now that you’ve arrived. 😉

I love that tray! I am so jealous that you found that mirror for less than $2!

  • Laurel @ Ducks in a Row at

I love it as a tray! How cute!

  • Holly @ Roller Coaster Life at

Shut the front door!! A buck 50!! You can’t beat that!! That mirror at the goodwill I go to would have been overpriced!!

And I love it as a tray!!! And it hangs… It doesn’t get much better than that! =)

    god… i love you!

my little “word verification” for this comment is “natedid” Nate Berkus did… everything amazing! haha get it!?
