curtains! finally.

i did it! after months of this fabric sitting in my cupboard i finally made my curtains. and there’s even some leftover fabric for a pillow or two! yay.

so … what do you think?

Inspired By Charm

i love them.

Inspired By Charm

the process of sewing them was really smooth. i did learn a few things for the next time i made curtains. but there is no tutorial here. i’m just lucky they are made and hung. i loosely used this tutorial and this tutorial as a guide.

Inspired By Charm

and they are not perfect.

Inspired By Charm

but perfect is overrated.

Inspired By Charm

i love that i made them.

Inspired By Charm

i love that they are original and that no other house in this whole world has curtains like these. there’s something to be said for that.

Inspired By Charm

and i still love this fabric. and now i get to look at it everyday.

Inspired By Charm

and for those of you that have a sewing machine that’s still in a box … or unused. don’t be afraid. trust me. if i can do it. you can do it.

Inspired By Charm

and besides … what do you have to lose.

*UPDATE* the fabric is an antique store find – totally vintage.

Awesome job on the draperies! The fabric is perfectly perfect. Now that you have that first pair under your belt, you’ll be sewing up a storm!

I just posted a listing of online home dec fabric resources on my blog called The Fabric Files that Carrie (above comment) might find useful.

Hi..I’m new here..came over from Miss Mustard Seed..and so glad I did. You have an amazing blog and I am totally in luv with your curtains. You did a fabulous job..
and don’t you know that “it doesn’t have to be perfect to be beautiful”!!!
I am a great grandmother and have never learned to like sewing. It makes me throw hissy fits and pull my hair out. I made drapes for my daughter’s house once…and nevah again! :)) But, you did so good.
Now, I am going to look at your first quilt. You, my dear, are an amazing person.
I think I’ll just link up to follow you..:)
    Come see me sometime.

Nice job on the curtains, looks like the work of a professional to me. Just used the same color combo in my master bedroom and am looking for fabric for curtains. Do you mind sharing your fabric choice & resource?

I LOVE the fabric! You’ve got a great color scheme going. And really cool photo angles. Thanks for sharing.

These are beautiful. I love how you used the rings at the top and the pattern on your fabric is perfect!

What do I think? I think they are freakin’ gorgeous! Kudos to you for SEWING DRAPES! I am in awe. That fabric looks stunning as drapes and I’m betting it looks equally gorgeous as pillows.

You say they are not perfect, though they look that way to me. I’d love to find out from you any problems you ran into during the process, and what you’d watch out for next time or do differently. My BFF wants to sew some huge drapes for his fabulous sky pad and I’d love to help him, but I think having some tips from someone who has “been there” would be invaluable. I think all your readers would love some tips!

    Best,

You’ve done a beautiful job!! I’m quite impressed! The fabric is amazing. Congratulations on finishing this project. Perhaps I’ll feel inspired now. I’ve had fabric for my living room draperies sitting in a cabinet for about a year now.

Will you show a picture of your hallway leading up to the curtains? I want to see what the circle wall art looks like front on!

Just found your blog today and am sad I didn’t find it sooner!

Oh Michael they are just lovely. I love the blinds, rod, just everything. Whenever I sew panels like that the edge seams never lay quite right, but who cares! 😉

Beautiful! I am in LOVE with your fabric choice! I actually just took my sewing machine out of the box for the first time and had myself a little lesson! I might be jumping the gun but curtains are totally on my to-do list…thanks for the inspiration!
