I hope you are having a wonderful week. Things have been a little bit weird in my world lately, but it’s time to push ahead and keep on keeping on. The only direction is forward, right?

Today I wanted to quickly share some updates in my bedroom. A few weeks ago, I showed you my dresser and ottoman. (Thanks for all of the love.) This time round, I wanted to talk about my curtains (actually just the rings), show you my new blinds, and let you know about that rug.

Let’s start with the curtains. Several years ago, I installed these wood and forged nail curtain rods above the windows in both of these rooms. You can find the tutorial here. Ideally, I would have gone with something different for this makeover, but this “curtain rod” is a bit permanent. And since I still really love it, I decided not to change it.

After finding the right curtains, I needed a better way to hang them on my existing rods. If you’ll recall, I simply hung them with clip rings in order to share photos of them with you. That interim solution worked for snapping pictures, but it made the curtains look frumpy.

Fortunately, I found some rings to sew onto the curtains. These are metal d-rings that you’d use to attach straps if you are making a purse. I purchased them via Etsy. I decided to go with an aged brass because you know how much I love me some brass.

I hand sewed the rings near each tab on the top of the curtain panel. I tried sewing them to the tab, but they didn’t hang correctly. This was the best option.

With all the rings attached, my curtains are officially complete!

And as you can see, they hang SO much better.

Plus, strangely enough the curtains turned out to be the perfectly length. They hide the bottom of the “curtain rod” and they just barely touch the top of the floor. Honestly, when I ordered the curtains, I didn’t know they’d work out this well. I assumed I’d have to hem them.

Anyway, much better, right?

You’ll also notice that I have new blinds. I used Direct Blinds again. (I have these in my living room / office as well.) I purchased the bamboo shades in canton oak. I also went with the blackout liner. This is a great option for privacy. Plus, since this is my bedroom, it really keeps the light out. (I’ve been sleeping much better since I installed them. I’m generally not a good sleeper.)

Overall, I’m very pleased with them and definitely recommend them. They are a bit pricey, but you get what you pay for. If you’re interested in purchasing them, keep an eye out for a coupon code before doing so. Every once in a while Direct Blinds offers 35% off.

Last but not least, I wanted to talk about that cowhide rug in my closet. It’s real cowhide, and I purchased it form eCowhides.

I was a bit hesitant about adding it to the space, but I love the way it looks. Each rug is different. I went with the unique cowhide. I actually ordered two hides and sent one back. The first rug was a bit too small. Just pay attention to the dimensions if you do decide to order.

I should tell you that there was a slight chemical odor when I first placed the rug in the room, but it’s mostly disappeared at this point. Also, I’m still struggling with getting the hide to lay flat in a few spots. Does anyone have any suggestions? Even so, it does look great in the space, and it’s super soft.

That’s the latest on my bedroom makeover. Next up, I need to find a bed frame. After that, I think I’ll finally be ready to wrap up this space. I’m SO ready for it to be finished.

Everything is perfect and I LOVE that cowhide! STill laughing about “I already ate the cow so…”
    That is hilarious!!

Hi Michael, I love what you did, the nail curtain rod is so unique. I read the comment about someone saying the cowhide is gross….I myself got my very first cowhide this year. I told one of my vegetarian friends that I already ate the cow in the past, so it’s considered a recycle right?? LOL …anywise great job. My first visit to your blog. Christine from Little Brags

Love the curtains and I really love the wood and nail curtain rod. The whole room looks beautiful and masculine at the same time. The rug and ottoman are perfect too.

Michael, I love the curtains and the rug but I have to saw that the light fixture is not one of my favorites. You have great taste in lighting so this one was kind of a shock to me. I would have pictured somethign a bit more elegant. Love the ottoman though.

    • Michael Wurm, Jr. at

Silvana, thanks! Which fixture were you referring too? The one in the bedroom or closet?

Either way, I wasn’t going for elegant in the space. I wanted a bit more masculine, cool, and industrial. I think both fixture gave me exactly what I was looking for. 🙂

I really appreciate you feedback though. Thanks!

I’m so glad to see you are using that little blue/gray bench/table. It’s one of my favorite pieces of yours. I was hoping you wouldn’t scrap it. The room has progressed beautifully. Job well done, as always.

Interesting window treatment, never saw this before. The cow hide is just gross, why have a part of dead animal on your floor? bad karma.

    • Michael Wurm, Jr. at

To each their own I suppose. I really love it in the space. Thanks KL.

A pet peeve of mine is drapes that are too short. Yours are perfect. They look great.
I love your hide. I have one layered over a seagrass rug. If it’s curling up in spots you can trim off a sliver with scissors. That should fix the problem.

      Thanks for the tip Mary!

The cowhide rug looks nice but….ewww….its kinda creepy. I don’t think I would want to touch it.

Yeah, I hear ya. I was nervous at first, but I really like it.

Love that window. I have 4 new windows in our renovated upstairs and one is quite large. This would work perfectly and save me some money. Thank you!
