Yesterday I bought a little notebook and spent the better part of the evening filling it with lists of ideas and projects. I had been feeling slightly scattered and overwhelmed the past couple weeks. Other than getting my Gift Shoppe into shape, it didn’t seem as if I’d accomplished much. This was starting to bum me out, especially since there is so much to doaround here. Does this happen to anyone else?

I guess I was just in a creative lull, a blogger’s block. I’ve been in this spot many times. I don’t like it. As I focus more time on achieving certain dreams, I needed to find a better way toorganize my thoughts, create some game plans, and simply get some stuff done!

After hours of brainstorming, I feel more inspired and have some clear directions and goals. As a new week, a new month, a new season is about to begin, I now have a new plan. Let’s do this!

I actually even gave myself an hour to sneak away from my little inn to hit some some of my favorite antique shops. I wasn’t looking for anything in particular, but found a fewtreasures to bring home.

Part of my brainstorming session included some ideas for fall, including giving my dining room shelves a touch of autumn.

I dug through a shelf of books and found this beautiful stack in green and orange. It’s one of my favorite color combinations, and it’s perfect for fall. The books should work out beautifully!

I also stumbled upon a small collection of hand brooms. I’m hoping to work them into my display as well.

Finally, I found a pair of blue shutters and a long reddish-orange level. I’m totally in love with the saturated color of these pieces.

I’m not sure where they are going or how I’ll use them, but I just knew they had to come home with me.

So, with a little antiquing and brainstorming under my belt, I’m ready for this new week, new month, new season, and all the adventure that comes with them!

Have a happy Labor Day weekend, everyone!

This post as summed up the exact thoughts and feelings — and frustrations — going through my very own mind!

I don’t know what it is, but come August I postpone everything until after the kids go back to school …

    … like I’m in a holding pattern!

Just saw a class for a fabulous project at the wonderful Junque Drawer Studio in Olathe, KS. They are gluing pages from old books to a wooden birdhouse and putting the open cover on the roof. So cute. This must be vintage book day!

My thoughts and feelings exactly. Had a great day of retail therapy with my wonderful SIL and she pulled me right out of my funk. I thought I was on the verge of a nervous breakdown fo a few days. Thank God for great friends!

My feelings exactly right now! I have tons of ideas, but almost too many because they get all jumbled up in my head and I can’t seem to get a handle on any of my works in progress. I, too, have turned to a notebook for jotting down those ideas and thoughts and making to-do lists. Great minds… now if my projects will only turn out as awesome as yours! I love to decorate with old books! And those blue shutters are just beautiful!
Looking forward to seeing your fall displays. You shop looks great!

I find that a pen/marker/etc and fresh, new paper can cure all sorts of ills.

We saw Brandi Carlile in Bend this past Saturday, and now we are almost done building a front yard fountain
( it used to be a working well!).

Will be looking forward to seeing where those shutters turn up 🙂

I’ve been scattered as well the past few weeks. Out of sorts as my mother used to say. :o) I find it helps if I make a list so a few days ago that’s what I did. It’s long but do-able. Love your treasures…especially the blue shutters. Well done.

It is amazing what making some lists can do for ya! I am a total pen and paper gal myself but recently I have started using Evernote. Have you heard of it before? I find it keeps me MUCH more organized! I am a new follower of your blog and absolutely love it! Very inspiring, keep up the great work and I can’t wait to see what you have to share in this new season!

Good to know you’ve sorted your thoughts and ideas out Michael. Having time out to take stock of our thoughts is always such a productive process. I really can’t wait to see what surprises (and gorgeous photos) you have in store for us.
I look forward to every post you do.

Ciao Michael, you’re really sweet, this is what I feel reading this post… as a new blogger, I often feel exactly like you, I feel as if I have nothing to tell, nothing to say, sometimes I feel like “may be blogging is not for me”.. then I get so inspired by you and other talented people, it gives me so much enthusiasm and energy. And probably making a list, putting thoughts down is the solution. A friend of mine told me not to stop posting and writing, I might slow down but I won’t quit, so please keep inspiring me with all the funny stuff you make!
    Ciao Lisa – Shabbypassion
