I’m popping in today to share three housekeeping details. Motivated by the new year, new month, and comments from you, I’m making a few small changes and wanted to let you know about them.

First, while some of you never saw the old design / layout of Inspired by Charm and many of you probably don’t remember it, there are still a handful of you who miss the OLD old layout of blogs. And by OLD old, I mean the layout that allowed you to continuously scroll and see post after post in the order they were published. Over the past year several of you emailed me with said complaint (not just about my blog, but blogs in general), so I finally decided to look into it and find a solution. Sadly though, those of you who emailed me mentioned you were going to stop reading my blog because you couldn’t continuously scroll, so you probably won’t see this. However, I do listen and hope to make everyone’s IBC experience the best it can be.

So, for those of you who like the old-style format of blog reading, it’s back on IBC, and it’s very simple and convenient to access. I even included graphics to help you.

First, at the bottom of every page in the footer (the chalkboard area), you’ll see the words “ALL POSTS.” Click on those words, and it will show you the full feed of posts in chronological order.

Another option is at the end of every post. Just below the text of the post and above the “You May Also Like …” section, you will see the words “ALL POSTS.” Again, click on that, and it will show you the full feed.

I told you, “So simple!”

You’ll also notice I added options to click “PREVIOUS POST” and “NEXT POST.” This will give you another way to click through posts. Can I get a “Yay!” for options?

Alternatively, on the homepage at the very bottom just before the chalkboard footer (and in the footer as well [listed as ARCHIVES]), you will see the word “ARTICLES“. Articles shows you every post title along with the featured image in chronological order. This is a super quick way to look back at posts in order to find something or see what you might have missed.

So, with these two features, plus the main site design, you have multiple ways to view and read content here on IBC.

The second housekeeping matter: If you’re ever sharing something on Instagram that you recreated or made from an IBC tutorial or recipe, please be sure to include the hashtag #myIBC. Because of how Instagram is set up, it’s the only way I can easily find these types of posts.

I just love seeing your creations and what you were inspired to make, and I want to be sure I don’t miss anything.

PLUS on every series page here on IBC, I feature your #myIBC images with a link to your Instagram account. So, if you use the hashtag, you have the bonus of being featured here.

Finally (and most excitingly), there’s a new section here on IBC that I’m pumped about and can’t wait to share with you. I’m calling it Behind the Charm.

In essence, it’s a dedicated space on IBC where you can find my more personal and reflective-style posts. The land of blogging is constantly changing. While it’s wonderful that blogging has become a bit more polished and professional, I kind of miss having a space where I can share more freely and openly. Behind the Charm (BTC) is a special little blog within a blog where I can do that.

You can access this portion of IBC by clicking the image / link in the sidebar (or at the bottom of the page on mobile). These posts will not appear on the homepage of IBC or in the fancy new “archive” / “all posts” feed. They also won’t appear on your blog readers like Feedly, Bloglovin’ or Feedburner. The only way to access them is by clicking on that little “Behind the Charm” button.

I’ve already created one post to explain what prompted me to create BTC. (See, it’s already working!) You can access that post HERE. You can stay caught up on BTC posts by just clicking on that link once a week (or so). There’s no set schedule, but I do hope to post once a week or so.

Please click on over and check it out. I hope you find it as exciting as I do.

And that’s it, friends! Housekeeping is taken care of. No vacuums required. I hope you enjoy these tweaks and additions.

Do you take on blog design clients? I desperately, desperately need help with mine and your online design has always been an inspiration of mine. Let me know. Would love to work with you.

Emily, I don’t do my own blog design. You can get in touch with dashcg.com – Mike and his team manage the graphics / functionality of IBC.

Yay for the previous posts addition! Sometimes I miss a post and now this makes it easier for me to see if I missed one. Also look forward to reading the Behind the Charm posts!

  • Emma P. at

Oh this is an awesome addition to the blog. I agree sometimes I will miss a post and it is nice to scroll thru. I certainly would not stop reading because of this (I like this blog too much). Thank you for putting so much time and thought into your readers concerns!

  • Bridget W at

I follow you on Facebook & Instagram and I used to receive your blog updates daily by email. They suddenly stopped & when I have tried to sign up again, I don’t see an option to receive your posts by email. FB doesn’t always show me your updates & IG depends on whether I scroll far enough to run across your post. With email subscription, I never missed a post. Can you add that back as an option? Pretty please? *smile

    • Michael Wurm, Jr. at

Hey Bridget! Yes, you certainly have the option to get posts via email. You do that through Feedburner. In my social icons (located in the header, footer, and sidebar of the blog) there’s an icon that looks like a dot with two quarter circles around it. Click on that. You’ll be redirected to the IBC Feedburner page. There will be a box on the right. Click “Get IBC delivered by email” and you’ll be all set! You also have the option to subscribe to the IBC Mailing list (in the sidebar). This typically comes out 2-3 times per week with post updates. Hope that helps!

        Thank you so much!

Yay! As a relatively new reader it’s now easier to go back and read them all.

I’m also a new reader, and I’ve found that experience frustrating, when I’m trying to “get to know” a blogger and decide if I want to subscribe. So I appreciate that as well, and I also love that you greet us often with your charm and ideas. Thank you!

I really like your current layout (before today.) But NOW it’s just plain great! I easily went back to day one and am catching up. Oh – and right from the beginning – great recipes! Wouldn’t you know I have all the ingredients for your cheesecake brownies – good thing it’s getting colder tomorrow – a perfect thing to bake. I’m also looking forward to BTC. I noticed your early posts had more personal, reflective notes.

Michael! I’ve been reading your site since the “olden days” :). I think the year you started blogging! I can’t believe anyone would stop reading over the layout… Anyway-I just thought it was high time I commented and told you what a beautiful place you have-both online and IRL. I look forward to your Behind The Charm posts as well. Keep up the lovely work!! 🙂

  • Melissa Leach at

Love the update! I am especially happy to see your new photograph. I don’t think the old one did you justice.

  • Mackenzie at

YES YES YES!! Thank you for these options. I love and miss the traditional blog format and am so happy that I can return to it. You can’t please everybody, but you sure made ME happy today! 🙂

  • liz n. at

Well, I feel a bit silly, because I had no problems with the prior version of your site, but now that I’ve been exploring, I find it so much easier to navigate!

    Hindsight and all that.

The only thing that ever drives me away from blogs I really enjoy is when they become so heavy with advertisements that finding actual content becomes more frustrating than it’s worth. Thankfully, you have’t done that with IBC!

And I second Melissa’s comment: the new photo is perfect!

  • Agatha at

I was still looking for “ALL POSTS” link. It appears to be before comments. I guess I am not the only one who reads others comments and after that jump to next post. It is just me. I love the idea of continuous reading.
