ask me.

i have a feeling that once hit the ‘publish’ button on this post i’m going to hear crickets chirp. But i’m okay with crickets.

so, today i figured i’d turn the tables and see if any of you have questions for me. i have had this little page, on and off, for about three years now.  and ever since 2012 came rolling in i’ve had a new appreciation for my little home on the web. with hopes and goals of growing this into something great… but, i need your help.

ask me.

so let’s bring on some questions! is there something you want to know about me but never asked?  do you want to know my secret recipe for pumpkin pancakes? what a ‘day-in-the-life of an innkeeper’ is like? or where i like to shop for clothes?  or why i have a ridiculous number of pinterest followers?

feel free to throw in suggestions for the blog! do you want to see me post more about this and less about that? maybe something you want me to explore more. or something new you’d like me to try. now’s the time!

now, i can’t promise i can or will answer every question, but i’ll give it my all! oh, and there is a little post about me here, so that may answer some of your questions.

i’ll give it some time and once i have enough stuff, i’ll do up a post or two (again, depending on the amount of questions) answering everything i can. sound good?

feel free to leave a comment below or email me at (email is the best option if you feel a question may be a little too personal or not appropriate for the comments below. thanks!)

ready. set. go!

Now that you mention it, Michael, I’ve always wondered what it was like to be an inn-keeper. Where on earth do you find the time to blog? Also, where do you find the time for any crafting or quilting, etc?

  • Pammy pam at

i think your sweet little inn would be the perfect spot for a mommy blogger conference site in the summer. did you say pumpkin cupcakes?

Wow Michael, you weren’t kidding! You have a gazillion followers on Pinterest ! Just wanted to say that I love visiting your blog ~ I’ve also been blogging for about 3 years, only 70-something followers, but I’m okay with that! I would love to know what inspires you ! I love your home decor and tutorials. Thanks for inspiring!

Holy Cannoli, you do have sooo many followers on Pinterest! Well, you can add one more! ๐Ÿ˜‰

I find you adorable and refreshing. Can you tell me what your most favorite item is in your home? Yep, just pick one.

How DID you get so many Pinterest followers?!?!?!?!?

How about some pointers for how YOU use Pinterest to organize, inspire, inform, educate yourself and others. How do you not just get sucked into wasting a lot of time on Pinterest?

How do you have time to accomplish all that you do — innkeeper, blogger, Pinterest aficionado, quilter? How?!

I think you have a great sense of style and charm. You could be the next Eddie Ross, maybe?

I’m new to your blog, very new, but I already love it! I have a question for you about blogging itself.

How many blogs did you have before this one? Was there ever a time when you wanted to stop blogging, and if so, why?

This is my third attempt at blogging. The first two didn’t work. Maybe I had the wrong motives, I’m not sure. But this time I’m thinking I’ll be able to make it work ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Jessica at

I would imagine being an innkeeper isn’t easy, but you seem to do it with such joy and exuberance.

My question is this: What drives you? And, are you a morning person? (Sorry, two questions!)

  • Stephanie at

Michael, I love your blog, it’s truly a gem. ๐Ÿ™‚

I would love to know where you got your eye for decorating. How did you learn what looks great where? Or have you always had the knack?

Thanks for 3 years of InspiredByCharm.

As an innkeeper I’m sure you have to keep long (crazy?) hours. Do you ever get a day off? And one more…how’s your attic coming along? I can’t wait to see the end result.

BTW, I LOVE your style, food/ recipe choices, outlook…Your blog is very inspirational and it makes me happy ๐Ÿ™‚

I’m a fairly new follower…..what would you say is the best thing about your little town of St. Mary? What draws people there?

  • Carrilynn at

Hi Michael I started following you on Pinterest and loved your pins so much I started following your blog and twitter. My question is what’s an average day of breakfast, lunch and dinner ? Is your cooking taste more exotic or earthy ?

  • Kristen at

    Love your blog!

What’s there to do in St. Mary’s? I am outside of Philadelphia, and I confess, I had never before heard of your town before I started reading this charming blog.

  • Krista at

This post is such a fun/great idea!

First and foremost, i have to cheat and steal one of the the pre-written questions you selected for yourself because it is so appropriate. “Your spelling and grammar (you spelled that word wrong in your post btw!) makes my head spin. Can you work on that please?!”

My real question, is when are you going to get a lady friend kitty for jax and sebastian?? I feel it’s way overdue.

And yes, i just posted a comment on here! *gasp*

  • Nicci at

When you became an innkeeper, did you (do you) have a mentor? Someone with experience that could give you direction and happily watch you succeed? Would you be willing to be that person for someone just starting out? (Don’t worry, the only place I’m in innkeeper is in my head, I’m not askin’) ๐Ÿ˜€

  • Funnelcloud Rachel at

Oh, I have lots of questions!

First, I’d love for you to do a post about the day in the life of an innkeeper. I love reading those kinds of posts and innkeeper is such a unique job, that I know it would be really interesting!

Also, I’ve always been wondering – do you live in an apartment that is attached to the inn? A separate innkeeper’s cottage? Have you ever posted a tour/photos of your actual living quarters?

How did you know how to buy/run an inn at such a young age?

How do you deal with the challenges and responsibilities of running an inn and living in a small town? How do you meet people? Have a social life? Take vacation? Do you ever get to sleep in?

Sorry for all the questions, but your blog and lifestyle truly fascinate me and I’d love to learn more about it!

And I *am* really really curious – just how did you get all those Pinterest followers?!?! What is your secret?! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  • Maureen Cracknell Handmade at

I’d like to know what made you decide to take on owning an Inn in the first place?? I love it, but it’s so ambitious, SO much work, but so very cool!

And, did you figure out how you got so many pinterest followers!?? Your number is outstanding!!!

  • Funnelcloud Rachel at

Oh, and one more blog suggestion – would love to see you do a video! Maybe answer some of the questions you get via video?

  • Lili at

I’ve always wondered if you have a staff to help you with your inn or your gift shoppe, or do you do everything by yourself? You’re so creative and I enjoy keeping up with your blog! ~Lili

  • Shannon at

I’m curious as to how you manage your social media time. Since your the current reigning internet god that I know, how do you not spend the entire day linking to every possible thing over and over and spending all your time checking your stats all over the place? I would (and have on the occasion my little blog gets some attention) gone insane and can’t be unglued from my laptop & smartphone.

And can we be IRL BFF’s too?

  • Ali Richardson at

    Hmmm…qestions….Ok here’s a few.
    How old are you??
Is your bedroom “in” the Inn near the other bedrooms??
Do you do all the cooking/cleaning in the Inn or so you have staff??

  • at

Scanning through the comments above, I totally agree with 1) wanting to know more about the day to day running of the inn and 2) a pinterest tutorial (I think I don’t fully grasp the concept)

  • Deb @ Paper Turtle at

Hi Michael ~ Thanks for visiting my blog and leaving a nice comment. :o) I’ve seen your comments on my daughter’s blog and I always wondered, “Is he REALLY an innkeeper?” :o)

  • Kim @ NewlyWoodwards at

I, too, would love a day-in-the-life post. And I’d love more deets about how you ended up where you are. Was it your dream for a while or did it just happen?

  • Debra from Bungalow at

    Hi Michael,
I came across your blog a few months ago and have been hooked ever since. I am a PA blogger too, near Hershey.

My question is, how did you get so many followers on pinterest???? I hope you pin something from my blog and sooooooo many people see it!

    I’m sending an email.
