Sitting at my makeshift desk, I took this photo with my cell phone at about 4:30pm today.
As you can tell, there is a lot going on around here. A package delivered today still sits in the entryway where it immediately became a catch-all for paint samples. My dining room table is full of random remnants of a post I worked on all day yesterday (coming soon) and stuff I quickly shot pictures of this afternoon before the sun went down. (Are these shorter days getting on anyone else’s nerves?) A bag of garbage (It may or may not contain a pizza box.) is just chillin’ out with the vacuum. I guess I’m just keepin’ it real today and showing you that things aren’t always picture perfect around here.
But now on to some pretty things. Here is what ‘s happening around IBC Headquarters.
You may have noticed in the picture above that one of the walls in my office has a new color. As I mentioned previously, it’s Lighter Mint from Sherwin-Williams. I’m really loving this color.
There is a part of me, however, that may be a teeny-tiny bit nervous about it. Nonetheless, I’m not passing judgment until everything is painted and I start pulling the furniture and accessories together.
Just this afternoon I started painting the wall above the fireplace with this cheerful color. It is Larchmere from Sherwin-Williams. Again, this is a strong color and it instantly makes me happy when I walk into the space. It’s just so unexpectedly wonderful. I’m excited to see this room coming to life.
In other news, I took a tiny break from work and painting to hit up my local resale shop and one of my favorite antique shops. I was so glad I did!
At the antique shop, I found a pair of brass birds. They immediately reminded me of this pair. At half the price ($7 a piece) I scooped them up. I think they will be fun on a mantle or side table.
I also bought this large glass jug. About a month ago, Melissa of The Inspired Room created a lamp out of a jug. I’m hoping to do the same thing. I think the slight blue / green color of the glass will match my office perfectly. It was a steal at $25.
I also fell in love with the color and shape of this glass bowl. It was $12. Once my office takes shape, I hope to put together a little collection of colored glass. This piece will be a great start to this new collection. Oh, and the candle in the picture behind the bowl is from Anthropologie. I’m literally obsessed with the scent which is Tobacco Almond. I know that sounds really strange, but I can’t get enough of it. Plus the jar is super adorable.
After that I headed over to the resale shop and almost peed my pants. First, a little backstory. About two years ago I saw a similar set of these plates / mugs at Goodwill and couldn’t decide if I wanted them. I ended up passing on them. About two weeks later, an issue of Country Living arrived and these exact plates were featured in the magazine. They were valued around $40 per set. With the hope they’d still be at Goodwill, I crossed my fingers, dropped everything, and drove there. Sadly, they were gone.
I was elated when I saw a set of six of the very same plates and mugs at the resale shop today. (And I cannot for the life of me think of what this style of dish is called. I
f anyone knows, please leave a note in the comments.) They are called Candlewick Luncheon Plates. To top it all off, this shop was having a 50% off sale on all plates. I walked out of there with the six plates for $5. Get. out. of. town! Patience pays off I suppose. I think these are going to be amazing for holiday entertaining. From cookies and milk to veggies and dip – these will certainly come in handy.
And last, but not least, I’m taking part in my first Google+ Hangout tomorrow. The amazing folks at RedEnvelope asked me to join them for this fun event as they relaunch their signature red gift box. Several other style inluencers will join me. We will be talking gifts, style, and the joy around giving and receiving the perfect gift. You can read more about it here or join the event here. The fun starts tomorrow, October 18, at 1pm EST. Hope to see you there!
That’s it for me today. I’m going to go clean up this mess I made and maybe get another coat of paint on my fireplace wall.
