i love the versatility of pancakes. start with an basic, yet amazing pancake recipe.
and let your creative mind do the rest. the finish product will speak for itself!
some of my personal favorite include:
blueberry and banana (add mashed ripe banana to the batter. then add blueberries when the pancake is on the griddle)
oatmeal and almond (just add old fashioned oats and a little almond extract to your batter)
crushed pineapple and vanilla (cut up fresh pineapple into tiny pieces, mix into the batter with good vanilla. make it extra special by serving them with fresh strawberries sprinkle with vanilla sugar.)
peanut butter chips (move over chocolate chips! these taste divine! just add the desired amount of chips (a lot in my case) to the pancake when it’s on the griddle.)

remember back in january when i planted some glass orbs with succulents? well over the past couple months i managed to break two of them (knots in fishing line are not sturdy). and the one that’s left … it’s thriving! see..
i don’t think i took a close up of this particular one before, but doesn’t it look great? i just love it. the plant has various names, but i know it as ‘string of pearls’. i found this plant on etsy, but recently saw a much larger version at lowes.
back in january i also found these glass beaker tubes for a steal on ebay. i was slightly discouraged after breaking two of my other attempts, but with a renewed spirit and a couple extra succulents i decided to try again. as they say, ‘if at first you don’t succeed…
…try, try, try again.’
so i put a couple stones at the bottom of each beaker, filled them with catus soil and planted my succulents.
i hung them in my dining room in front of the window. i think i need one more tube. and yes, i realize they are a bit weird/different/interesting but that’s why i love them. it makes my guests intrigued… it makes them ask questions. it’s fun. and i love to watch them grow.
i’m not sure how the light is going to be here, but i’m thinking it could be perfect. not direct, but plenty of it. we shall see. and again, i’ll keep you posted.
oh, and i was beyond thrilled this past weekend when a guest commented on how much they loved that my flowers matched my door and outdoor cushions. success!

so, even though i’d love to have a big beautiful vegetable garden, i don’t have the space. once you’ve had a fresh garden tomato or squash or anything you’ll never want to buy another vegetable in the store.
before i purchased the bed and breakfast (oh, and i’m celebrating my two year anniversary tomorrow … it’s hard to believe it’s been two years since i signed about a thousand papers and bought my own business. but, i’d do it again in a heartbeat.) … anyway, as i was saying, before i purchased the b&b, i live in philadelphia and tried to plant tomato plants in pots and i was highly unsuccessful. it was just bad.
what i recently learned is that you can go tomatoes in a container, but you’re not suppose to use terra cotta pots (which i did) because they dry out too quickly. i was determined to try again, because i love, LOVE cherry tomatoes. i have an excess of terra cotta pots and didn’t need/want to buy something else. so…
before filling with dirt, i lined my pots (i’m only trying two tomato plants this year) with garbage bags, poked a hole in the bottom, then filled with dirt! so now i have the look of terra cotta without it drying out. hopefully this works and i have plenty of delicious cherry tomatoes. time will tell.

i bought four climbing don juan rose bushes this spring and planted them around my little inn with hopes of eventually creating a canopy of roses overhead.
and to my suprise, i already have a rose coming!
don’t the petals look like a heart? now i wish my cold would go away so i could smell these beauties!

like Oprah, i too have many favorite things. and one of my most favorite is heading to the local greenhouses. that exactly what i did (with my mom) this past (beautifully sunny) weekend. i didn’t take any pictures while i was the the greenhouses (i didn’t want to look silly and i just wanted to enjoy the process). i did take pictures of what i brought home.
inspired by my newly painted front door and new chair cushions i went with oranges, reds and yellow this year. last year i did a mix of anything and it looked that way. pink mixed with reds mixed with purples mixed with oranges. it just didn’t look right.
sticking with a smaller pallet of colors makes everything look cohesive, while the variety of flowers keeps things interesting. plus it goes much better with the color of my house (red brick).
love geraniums. a must for my garden!
window boxes on the carriage house. i never really liked marigolds, but i took my mother’s advice and they couldn’t be more perfect. i love potatoe vine too!
i love planting too… even though my excitement makes the planting process happen really fast, before i know i’m done. i wish it would last longer.
every fall, when i clean up all the dead flowers, i tell myself i’m not buying as many next year, but some how i always do.
i just can’t help myself.

last summer i purchased a louisa weeping crab apple tree. when i purchase it i was told it would have pink flowers in the spring. so, , i’m excited that it survived the winter. and second, aren’t the flowers beautiful?
as i mentioned before i am not a professional photographer and i just use a basic, basic digital camera. so i may not win any awards, but i am thrilled with how they look. do they look ok?
over the past two days i’ve probably taken 200 pictures or more of these little flower. thank goodness for digital cameras! about 180 of those 200 are deleted. these are some of my favorites so far (yes, i’m going to take some more pictures). what i want to do is get 9 or 12 pictures i really, really love. print them out (maybe 8×10), frame them and hang then along a wall or above a bed. who knows?
i just think they need to be seen, rather than sitting lost in my computer. right?
last year i did a similar project in my dining room with pictures that carried the color scheme of my dining room. remember?
i just think art that you create is so much more unique and special. and original! no one else will have something quite like it. that’s cool.
AND…
i love, love this scribble art i saw the other day over at young house love.
looks amazing. right? and so professional. add it to my increasingly long to-do list. you can see the full tutorial here.
i know it’s really basic and simple, but i just think it’s brilliant. i do.

remember last week i showed you how i added some day lilies to my little backgarden project?
so i didn’t really explain. some of you may already know, but daylilies are quite amazing. Probably 8-10 years ago (wow, that’s hard to believe) my mom planted four daylilies. over time the plants got pretty big, along with their roots. why are they so amazing you ask? well, once they are establish you can easily split the daylily to plant somewhere else or to give to a friend! it’s super easy… just grab a shovel and dig (at least that’s what I do) … just make sure you get some roots and you are good to go.
this video will explain it better…
From my mom’s four plants over the past two years i think i ‘stole’ over 20 daylily plants!! amazing. right? they do start small, but grow so quick! and the best part is, they are already acclimated to this climate so their chances of survival are that much better. look a bud is coming already!
This process works with most perennials too! I have another little flower bed full of perennial from pieces of others plants. in fact, last year my neighbor’s sister gave me a piece of a hosta that was from a plant that was originally on this property some 50 years ago or more! too cool. welcome back hosta!
I am used to the standard yellow day lily, but i wanted some red/orangish ones to plant along the strip of my side walk that leads to my front door (i’ll show you when the arrived and i get them in the ground). ebay never seems to disappoint, so i did a little search and found exactly what i was looking for! and they were only a dollar a piece. nice!
last year i planted annuals (impatiences, i think) and it cost me around $35 to do so, and they didn’t even look that great. then in the fall, they had to be dug up and thrown away. (i hate that part.) not this year … i’m using daylilies! i only spent $24 on my and i will never have to plant them again. sounds like an amazing deal to me.
how have you made your planting easier and thriftier?

wow. so i just got the new vivaterra catalog in the mail yesterday and i want about 60% of the things in the catalog. although, while i love this catalog, in my opinion, some of their prices are just absurd! i don’t understand how things can cost that much. honestly.
anyway. here are seven of my favorite things. some are actually priced appropriately or on sale. others may just act as inspiration.
i like one pictured in the catalog better. again, total inspiration piece. i’m loving all the new wall gardens/living walls. have you seen them? cool. right? (oh and i just subscribe to that magazine. told you i was obsessed!)
Not sure i’d like this for a bathroom, but i’ll take two! one for my front door and one for the back. they are on sale and the price seem somewhat reasonable.
these are actually one of my favorites. again, on sale and a pretty good price. i’m going to save up for these. i think they would look ah-mazing hung from my trees (once they get a bit bigger of course [i do want to find a little buddha for back there too!).
awesome idea! just love these (in the white of course). i’d use mine for cereal. i actually have some large mouth mugs and i don’t like them for coffee/tea. the wide opening seems to make the beverage go cold to quick … but i love a handled cereal bowl!
i freakin’ love topiary forms! of any shape and size. i’m just so attracted to them. and these ones are just great, and on sale! love it!
i hope you likes my finds. what were your favorites?

remember last week i showed you the progress on my little mini garden project?
well on tuesday i got some daylilys from my mom’s house, broke them up and planted them.
see?
they are quite small at the moment, but should fill in quite nicely. here’s hoping they root well and survive!
i think the ‘green’ was much needed. next i want to get some large rocks in the woods behind my dad’s house. i would just go do it, but it’s probably going to take 3 or 4 people to lift one rock. thank goodness for older brothers. right?

sorry i didn’t get back here yesterday. wow. i decided to put in a new ventilation fan in my bathroom. i figured it would take about an hour… maybe 1.5 hours. wow. was i wrong! 4 hours later and seriously frustrated, i finished.
maybe things like that are why my unread magazine stack looks like this…
yes. yes. i do subscribe to a lot of magazines. and i love them all for their own unique reasons. you could call it an obsession. (wait till i show you all the articles, pictures and recipes i’ve torn out of past magazines) usually i have plenty of time (or excuses) to get lost in them, but lately the pile just keeps climbing. (in fact, i think there is another dozen or so in a basket under my bench in my kitchen…. who knows?)
i’ve even stopped flipping through them the moment i see them in my mailbox. they just get stacked on the pile.
i need some serious magazine time…
to drool over the 50 pancake and waffle recipes in may’s food network magazine.
or how i can upgrade my garden for $75 in may’s this old house (i wonder if i could hang a swing on my porch… hrmm)
and then the new martha stewart living came earlier this week. look at those colors!! if i was a color story. that would be IT! orange and green with a splash of red. beautiful!
or maybe i should start with january’s (yes, i am THAT far behind) better homes to figure out how to get organized.
it’s supposed to rain all next week. perhaps i’ll catch up then.

hellowdy! so, over the past two days i’ve literally taken hundreds of pictures of the blooms and buds and anything else pretty sprouting around my house. (dispite the fact that i’m sure my neighbors and everybody driving by thinks i’m crazy with my camera inches from my subject… and probably standing/sitting/laying in the most peculiar fashion.)
but i don’t care. they can think what they’d like.
anywho, i love close up shot of flowers and buds and pretty much everything. I just use a basic point and shoot camera (nothing fancy here – although i would like to get a ‘fancier’ one without spending thousands – i’m open to suggestions).
i was wondering today as i was snapping and snapping and snapping if these guys (and ladies) mind me getting all up in their business.
i know i would never let someone take a picture of me this close!
back up.
but aren’t they beautiful?
i guess when you are this stunning you really don’t mind how close people get.
it seems they are designed for people to get up close. maybe.
don’t you love tulips!? i wish they lasted all year.
but then again, maybe that’s what makes them so amazing and beautiful.
a little allium bud. just planted these bulbs last fall. so happy to see you guys!
not quite ready to open.
tada!
wow. now that’s close! but ah-mazing. right?
and a little apple blossom i had to remove from my espalier. but it found a home in a vase in my kitchen.
i wonder what will come up next?

hey everyone! hope you had a nice weekend. it snowed here and was/is quite cold. i honestly can’t take it anymore. spring/summer, wherever you are, please hurry.
thank goodness for my cozy quilt, tv and a good book. speaking of tv, do you watch sarah’s house on hgtv? it is by far, sorry candice, my favorite show on that network. sadly (or maybe not so much), it has become the highlight of my week! and let me tell you, this week didn’t fail.
if you don’t know, this woman (Sarah Richardson), buys a house (or in this case a farm) and resigns the whole thing. you could say she’s a ‘house flipper’, but she’s so much more than that.
this week she did the main bath in her farm house.
stunning right? and i got goosebumps when she used gray and yellow. (remember i mentioned i wanted a grey and yellow room) and my goosebumps got goosebumps when she did it with a country twist. amazing.
this bathroom isn’t huge on space, but she takes advantage of every inch she can. i love that. i can’t ever imagine living in a big house where it’s a struggle to fill every space. i love a smaller home where you actually use every room and take advantage of every space…comfy and cozy. anyway, the vanity is an old workbench she painted, added a marble top and sink. perfect. vintage light fixtures and a marble floor. so cool.
told you it was country. look at that sweet duck! (well, it’s kinda ugly…kinda, but i think that’s why i like it!)
a beautiful modern shower with glass enclosure. see the black stripe in there? they are little bitty black tiles with subway tile below and a molding tile above… brilliant!
and the clawfoot tub. amazing. totally vintage with a fresh coat of yellow paint. beautiful. and those curtains. super pricey ( i think $130 a yard.. wow!) but totally worth it right?
so, there are several pages you can check Sarah out. please be prepared to be inspired. Here’s the list. (spoiler alert… be warned if you are watching the show… it actually airs in Canada first, so some of the images on these sites are showing images of rooms that haven’t aired yet on hgtv in the state. not a huge deal, but i was a little disappointed to see some of the spaces finished before seeing the process on tv.)
anyway, here you go. i’d love to know what you think!
oh, and my friend, kim, over at newlywoodwards did a great post about sarah last week. check it out!

first things first, welcome to all of those visiting from thirtyeight20 (isn’t their house beautiful) and notes from the heartland. these lovely ladies both did a post about inspired by charm here and here. thanks so much for the generous, kind and thoughtful words! this is what it’s all about!
so, even though i will probably only finish one of these books this summer (as i mentioned before i’m not a big reader … even with blogs, i just tend to look at the pictures and skip the text… but i’m trying to be better) i still think it’s important to have a summer reading list. a good excuse to relax, to be selfish and spend a moment (or several) lost in the pages a book.
to make things easy for you, you click on the book title below each image and it will take you to the appropriate amazon page. cause if you are anything like me, you need to read the reviews before purchasing. and if you have read these books, please let me know your thoughts. or maybe i should switch one book for another? the only book i bought (and am currently reading is the lovely bones) nothing else is set in stone. (oh, and i did have one honorable mention… or maybe a fall read. The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson. Its seems like it may be a series of books? anyone read any of them? thoughts?)
so many questions… to little time.. anyway, here goes..
i think i’m most excited about this one. i will read this after the lovely bones.

remember when i said i wanted to create this look in my ‘backyard’?
well, i did! almost… i started the process… anyway, i started with this….
not so nice right? minus the trees in the pots it was a muddy area that collected water and leaves and eventually grew the biggest, scariest weeds i have ever seen. it was a mess people. and the fence made of railroad ties… HAD TO GO.
after removing the fence, moving some dirt, planting the trees (which are river birch – the same as featured in my inspiration photo above [mine are just a bit smaller at the moment]), putting down landscaping plastic (to prevent weeds from growing – take that weeds!) laying a brick boarder and finally putting down lots, and lots of mulch….
here’s what i came up with!
better right? i’m told these trees grow pretty quick. these were the largest i could find and i enjoy seeing things grow and trimming them to my desired shape/style.
now it’s time to accessorize! i’m planning on getting a new bench (the one i have is a pretty old hand-me-down). i’d like to find a red one to match my door (which i still need to show you – please remind me). if not maybe i can paint this one? i think i may have some extra paint.
i think it needs a little green, so i may do a row of daylilys behind the trees, or some ground cover. i haven’t decided.
and in case you were wondering, i would have planting the trees further back, but my property line stops right where the edge of the brick is, so i don’t think my neighbor would like if i planted trees in his yard. i think he’ll appreciate the mulch, but i need to know my boundaries.
i think a bird bath is also neccessary and maybe a couple of really big stones. who knows. i’ll be sure to let you know what i come up with.
oh! and remember i was telling/showing you my espalier? well… there are some leaves coming and hopefully some new rows of banches.
looks cool right? i love it, i really do.

first, i must say, this is my favorite use so far!
do you read the blog from the gals at makeunder my life? i mentioned their blog once before. they are always full of wonderfully inspired ideas and thoughts to get you through you day with a smile on your face, a twinkle in your eye and a little warmth in your heart.
anyway, i really liked their post yesterday. it was about the no compliant/happy string. i’m not going to go into to much detail because they do a great job explaining it here. but, this string serves as a reminder not to complain. a reminder to ‘accept the things we cannot change, have courage to change the things we can and have the wisdom to know the difference.’ a reminder to ‘find happiness no matter what our circumstances.’ nice thoughts, right?
it’s always great to have a reminder. see mine…
will it work, i think, but who knows. it’s worth a shot though. i think we could all use a little more happiness.

ahh, i’m back. still not fully rested i suppose, but ideas are starting to turn again. does your brain ever just stop working? agh. i hate when it happens!
anyway. this is one of my absolute favorite quiche recipes to make. spinach, bacon & swiss. doesn’t it look delicious?
typically i’m not a big paula deen fan, but this recipe is from her and amazingly its not loaded with butter and sugar. not that a quiche should be. and it’s pretty simple! even if you are not a big fan of spinach or swiss, give it a try. its yummy.
and … do you remeber natalie merchant? (i loved love her first cd. in fact, i still break it out every once in a while) well, she’ back! don’t you love when really great artists, that have disappeared, come back better than ever? me too!
i didn’t realize there are two version (which i hate -fyi. why the need for two versions?) anyway, i download the smaller one with just some of the songs. weird… i know. i’ve had it playing all day in the gift shoppe and while i really have LISTENED to it, i’m loving it already.
you can check it out here. so grab your ingredients for quiche, set your CD player to repeat and get ready for a magical experience!

so, i’m rather late in posting today because i have absoluetly no idea what to blog about. yikes. a first! so, i am just going to throw several random things at you and hope you enjoy!
first, thank you for all the wonderful banana recipe ideas. i will be freezing some… and i will file some of these recipes away for a later date as I’m currently trying to be more health conscious these days (reducing my sugar intake… i love sugar)… and i’m going to the store tonight to get a blender to make smoothies. i know, it’s sad i don’t have a blender, i’ve been holding out until i could afford this one. but i just can’t wait anymore. and do i honestly need a $200 blender? no!
second, don’t forget to sign up for our giveaway. it ends friday. and this giveaway is really cute… even more so in person.
third, i have a cell phone plan with verizon wireless and i can get a new phone tomorrow. i have been really struggling with the decision. i’ve decided on the palm pre plus, but i’m still having slight hesitation.
the runners up were the blackberry storm 2…
and the blackberry tour.
i wish i could smush them all together to create the perfect phone. they all have something i want and don’t want. if you have any advice between now and 8 AM on thursday, please comment. please.
fourth, i’m really excited for this album to hit the stores…
Court Yard Hounds (basically the dixie chicks minus their previous lead singer) i really liked dixie chicks, so i’m slightly nervous, but they sounds completely different so i don’t think it’s fair to compare.
fifth, i love this image and this landscape idea. i don’t know where i found the picture. sorry. but, it makes me upset i didn’t have this picture in my hands a year ago today when i changed my landscaping out front. i could have done something like this! it’s truly creative. the advice i got looks fine, but is totally boring and expected. i wish more people would be able to imagine stuff like this and take these risks instead of the same, boring things. it frustrates me to no end.
sixth, what the heck happened to spell checker on blogger? am i just not seeing it? i miss it. spelling is my weakness. (if you haven’t already noticed!)
and finally, do you watch Glee? it’s truly wonderful. it’s happy. it’s sad. it makes you think. it makes you feel good.
all the wonderful things you’ve heard about it…. totally true. all the bad things you heard … lies. anyway, it returns next week and i’m really happy about that. and their third cd comes out the following week. i’m really happy about that too.

so i only had a couple bananas left at the b&b, so when i went to the grocery store today i picked up some more. then when i got home my mom stopped by with more bananas. (she’s so thoughtful)
it was all a coincidence, but now i have a lot of bananas that are pretty ripe and ready to go.
but what else can i make with these bananas!? help! do you have a favoirte recipe that uses bananas?
i’m nervous too, because i’m almost out of peanut butter and i don’t know how many bananas with peanut butter i can eat in a couple days!
(and many apologies to my dear friend Krista who is not going to like this post as she is not a fan of bananas. maybe you’d have a recipe that could change her mind?)

and so is the maroon on my new japanese maple trees. i just planted them a couple weeks ago. i got them from plantsinthemail.com for an ah-mazin price. i got them in the mail (obviously) and they were four feet tall when they arrived… and boy are they lookin’ good.
have a great weekend everyone! where ever you are… who ever you are with… and whatever you are celebrating.

my new little apple tree looks like it’s hooked up to some torture chamber. poor thing!
but don’t worry, this little tree isn’t being tortured, it’s being trained. the true term is espalier. according to wikipedia here’s the best definition/explanation (because if i tried to explain it in my own words, you be probably be lost…)
“Espalier is the horticultural technique of training trees through pruning and grafting in order to create formal “two-dimensional” or single plane patterns by the branches of the tree. The technique was popular in the Middle Ages in Europe to produce fruit inside the walls of a typical castle courtyard without interfering with the open space, and to decorate solid walls by such trees planted near them.”
i know it sounds much more complicated than in really is… they are basically just trees trained to grow flat and pruned in a pattern. see..
supposedly is mostly done with fruit trees, but i guess it could work with others. anything is worth a shot right?
and here is mine!
pathetic right now. i know. this one i planted last year. i believe its a dwarf apple tree of sorts. maybe pear? i forget. it’s budding (see photos above), so i’m happy to see it survived the winter. (as you can see it planted in a hole i chipped out of the blacktop…not easy) the actual tree only cost me $20! great right!? if you buy a trees that’s already espaliered, they can run close to $200! yikes. plus… it takes away all the fun.
when choosing the tree, i did take the time to look for one that had two branches sort of coming out of the trunk at the same level. (sorry i didn’t take a picture of the tree when i first got it.) then i trimmed off the excess and tied things up. as you can see above i have three rows. one row is right where the siding meets the cement block (kinda hard to see). i’m going to create as many rows as i can on this tree. it’s in front of a shed of sorts. so i’d like it to extend to the top and all the way across. we’ll see!
then this tree i just bought a week or so ago. it’s a bing cherry. this one’s not quite as tall, but it was super straight and had four very good arms!
the goal for this one is to get it too look like this. neat right?
once the leaves on my trees come out, i’ll post some more pictures.
so what do you think? cool, right? do you have an espalier tree? do you want one? they are really, really easy, and you can’t screw up… i suppose. and for $20, who cares if you do.
just do a bit of research, like here or here or here if you want to learn more about growing/shaping one yourself.
and i have to tell you, i read the instructions myself, some ideas i did take away, but i’m not much of a planner…. so basically i’m doing what i think will work and hoping for the best! that’s how i roll.
my new little apple tree looks like it’s hooked up to some torture chamber. poor thing! but don’t worry, this little tree isn’t being tortured, it’s being trained. the true term is espalier. according to wikipedia here’s the best definition/explanation (because if i tried to explain it in my own words, you be probably be […]
i started painting my front and back door cherry tomato red this weekend. unfortunatly the rain as prevented me from finishing. hopefully i can wrao things up later this week when the rain stops and the temperatures reach the 70s! yahoo! i’ll share pictures then, but so far, i’m pretty happy with the look. it reminds me of those red telephone booths in england. it really add some spice and personality to the house.
as i was painting i was thinking about what i want on my door, if anything. so i did an internet search and came up with some ideas. not neccessarily all my favorites, but i was curious to see what you thought.
a plant/living wreath? oh, and i do love those stake planters! omg. it looks like a topiary without all the fuss of a topiary. i think i may need to try this. as long as i can find these stake planters at a reasonable price.
and i’m also loving these vinyl transfers both with house numbers and the ‘welcome’ below. while i found the above images on someone else blog, i know for a fact that this image is also in my file of favorite magazine images.
i know seeing my front door would be helpful, and i will post pictures soon, but what do you think? what’s on your front door? have your tried these vinyl transfers? what works for you? what look do you like?
any advice is appreciated. have a great week everyone!

a couple months ago i was at a barnes & noble and was simply overwhelmed by the amount a magazines they had. if you haven’t caught on yet, i have a bit of an obsession with magazines. i could sit in a barnes & noble for hours reading magazines…good thing there isn’t one closer. anyway, there were european versions of all my favorite magazines and some wonderful magazines from canada. one i really liked was canadian house & home. so, not thinking, i sent in the little card in the magazine to get a subscription. i think it was advertised for like $25 for a year. not bad i thought. well, that was until i got the bill. $60!! ouch. i guess the $25 was for delivery in canada. needless to say, i quickly returned unpaid bill and asked them to please cancel my subscription.
between them getting my notice to cancel, i actually have recieve two magazines. lucky me! and while the magazine is pretty good. it’s not worth $60.
but i was inpsired by something in the issue i just recieved last week.
i’ve been wanting to do something different on my dining room table. i thought this idea was super cool. i had one of the three tier disply thingys (i’m sure they have a name) and never really knew how to use it. if you can’t see they have african violets on top, herbs in the middle and fresh fruit on the bottom.
looks cool right? i’m sure creating their look cost thousands of dollars, but here’s what i came up with.
what do you think? the top tier is orange/yellow/red primrose from walmart. second tier is wine corks collected over the years. and the bottom is fruit. i’m really happy with the way it turned out. the three tier display i got at pottery barn about four years ago.
i also just added those big charcoal apothecary jars to my dining room too! do you like them? they have been in my gift shoppe for two years and no one bought them! can you believe it!? they are too cool, so instead of reducing them in price i decided to keep them. (yes, having a gift shoppe in your house does have it’s benefits) and i got an amazing yellow orchid from wal-mart for $12. that’s the deal of the week people. it’s beautiful! love it. have a great saturday everyone!

and although bird feeders seem to create nothing but a mess (seeds everywhere and little birdie ‘presents’ around), i still love having one. it’s nice watching the birds come and go. and hearing their sweet summer song.
i originally had it hung on that hook in the middle of the porch on that white beam, can you see it? anyway, that created a big mess. lots of cracked seeds all over the porch. so i decide to move it to this brick piller. i liked it so much that i bought another feeder. looks good right? there is a climbing hydrenda vine below (you can sort of see it climbing up). i’m hoping the vine will cover the brick pillar some day. another element of green!
anyway, i had tons of little birds when i just had my one feeder, but now, with two… a birdie buffet if you will… all the birds have gone. weird right? hopefully they come back.
oh, and my rain barrel arrived yesterday afternoon! yay! i hooked it up this morning and it’s already filling up at the dusting of snow (yeah… it snowed) melts off the roof. it looks amazing. i really, really love it. i’ll post pictures soon. tgif people. tgif.
