Of all the herbs, mint may be my favorite and I’m honestly not sure why. While I like the taste, I’m certainly not obsessed with it. However, give me mint chocolate chip ice cream or some other sort of mint and chocolate combination and I’m all over it. I think what I like most about mint is the way it looks. When it comes to garnishing a cocktail, a bowl of fruit, or some other scrumptious concoction, mint always delivers.

Ginger & Mint Lime Floats | Inspired by Charm

As you all know, this past year I’ve teamed up with  Glade® to share ideas for creating the #bestfeelings in the world. And with temperatures on the rise and lots of mint planted, today I thought I’d explore this wonderful herb and create a fun little float for summertime porch sipping!

Ginger & Mint Lime Floats | Inspired by Charm

For this particular recipe, I’ll be using pineapple mint, which tops my list not only for its flavor, but its gorgeous variegated leaves as well. You seriously need this in your garden ASAP.

Ginger & Mint Lime Floats | Inspired by Charm

This fun little float combines so many refreshing flavors. In addition to the mint, the lime and soda make this drink so refreshing while the ginger simple syrup adds a bright little bite.

Even though this recipe is alcohol-free, you could easily turn it into a cocktail with the addition of a little citrus vodka. I think it also could work as a delicious punch. Gotta love that!

Ginger & Mint Lime Floats | Inspired by Charm

However, today I just mixed up a couple for a cozy chat on the porch with a friend. Paired with Glade®‘s new Live Loud™ fragrance from their Limited Edition Spring Collection, I have the perfect recipe for a relaxing afternoon. (You can learn how to make the adorable gold-dipped mason jar vase here.)

Ginger & Mint Lime Floats | Inspired by Charm

Let me show you how to make this delicious float.

Ginger & Mint Lime Float

Here's what you will need (for four floats):
1 cup water
1 2 1/2 inch piece fresh ginger (peeled and sliced)
3/4 cup sugar
8 lime wedges
4 springs mint (I prefer pineapple mint), julienned
1 cup lime sherbet
2 cups club soda, chilled

Begin by making the ginger syrup. In a blender, combine the water and ginger; then blend until pureed. Transfer this mixture to a small saucepan. Stir in the sugar. Bring the mixture to a boil then reduce the heat to a simmer. Heat for about 10 minutes or until the mixture starts to thicken slightly. Cool completely

For each float, pour about 1/4 cup of the ginger syrup into a glass. Squeeze in two lime wedges and then put the wedges in the glass. Add a pinch of the julienned mint. Then muddle. Fill the glass about 3/4 full with club soda. Add one or two scoops (about 1/4 cup) of lime sherbet. Garnish with a sprig of mint.

Hello, everyone! This is the first time I’ve ever participated in a blogger home tour series, and I couldn’t be more excited If you are stopping over from The Hunted Interior, welcome! Isn’t Kristin’s home fabulous? I am majorly in love with her outdoor space.

Gina of Shabby Creek Cottage is graciously hosting the 2014 Summer Tour of Homes. You can check out this post for links to the 25 bloggers who are participating in the series. Start there, and each blogger will guide you to the next person on the tour.

But before you do that, now that you’re here, you might as well have a look around my abode. Because I’m weird and the upstairs of my house is in a bit of a transition (meaning it’s a hot mess), we are going to stay on the first floor for this summer house tour. Sound good? Over the past year, there have been a lot of changes in my little house. For those of you who are new to Inspired by Charm, my house previously functioned as a Bed and Breakfast and Gift Shop. About a year and half ago, I closed my B&B and turned this big old 100-year-old house into my home.

This is going to be a photo tour so I will be brief with my words and let the photos do the talking. I will link up any relevant posts below the questions for more information and / or tutorials. If you have any other questions, please leave a comments and I will do my best to answer them.

Enjoy the tour and stay as long as you like. I’ll put on some coffee or pour a cocktail.

Well, I certainly hope you enjoyed looking around today! Hopefully, on the next tour, I can get things together and take you upstairs where all the magic (or lack thereof) happens! Looking at the pictures, I’m reminded how much this house has evolved over the years. I am filled with a sense of pride, but also realize there are so many things to improve and lots of projects left to complete.

Now, don’t let the fun stop here. As I mentioned at the beginning of this post, there are 25 bloggers participating in this tour so go check them all out (links below). I sort of feel like a schlub when I compare my home to theirs. For me, it’s just an honor to be included in the tour.

If you are following this tour in order, next up is the uber-talented Jennifer Rizzo. I’m excited to see her happy space all ready for summer!

Thank you again for visiting. I’ll post the full list of bloggers below to make things super easy for you.

About a month ago I went to California for the first time. I’ve actually been meaning to blog about that trip for a while now, but just totally forgot. In fact, last October I went to Portland, Oregon and never blogged about that. I’m a little behind, aren’t I? Maybe we need a travel week on IBC.

Sweet Heat | Inspired by Charm

Anyway, while I was in California I spent one afternoon with the fabulous people at Hello Society. They are one of the amazing companies that I work with that help to make IBC possible. They are truly a spectacular team. We went to lunch at an amazing restaurant right along the Pacific Coast Highway. The deck of the restaurant where we sat literally hung out over the ocean. Amazing. I had this cocktail there that was called Sweet Heat. I’d been wanting to recreate the recipe at home and today’s 80 degree temperature put me in the mood.

Sweet Heat | Inspired by Charm

I will admit that that ingredients in this drink are a little odd. Jalapeño. Weird, right? However, it’s epically delicious. It’s like a tropical drink with a little kick. The ginger helps, too. So while I realize this drink may not be for everyone, if you are into this sort of thing, you’re going to love it.

Sweet Heat | Inspired by Charm

I also think this is the perfect concoction to serve as your signature cocktail for some fabulous summer festivity. The ingredients are simple and the drink is pretty straight forward. However it’s totally unique and special enough to be memorable.

Sweet Heat | Inspired by Charm

If you’re looking for something different and delicious, give this Sweet Heat a go!

Sweet Heat | Inspired by Charm

Sweet Heat

Here's what you will need:

2 ounces vodka
1 1/2 ounces pineapple juice
1/2 ounce simple syrup
3 slices jalapeño, thinly sliced
2 slices ginger, thinly sliced
1 lime wheel for garnish

In a cocktail shaker, muddle together the jalapeño, ginger, simple syrup. Add ice and vodka. Shake vigorously. Pour into a glass and garnish with a lime wheel.

This Blueberry Cream Pie will quickly become a favorite in your arsenal of summer dessert recipes. Graham cracker crust, creamy custard, and sweet blueberries make a winning combination!

Blueberry Cream Pie:

Today on Inspired by Charm, we’re talking about pie! This delicious Blueberry Cream Pie!

Delicious, fruity-meets-creamy pie with a surprise in the crust. And that my friends is, without question, good.

As you may know, this year I’m making as many pies as I possibly can in order to perfect my pie making skills. With blissfully warm temperatures this week, I decided to try a cool cream pie loaded with fresh berries.

Blueberry Cream Pie | Inspired by Charm #ayearofpie

I also wanted to whip up my own graham cracker crust.

As tempted as I was to buy a pre-made crust, there is something about serving up a special homemade pie in a tinfoil pan that didn’t seem right. Plus, if I can tackle a traditional pie crust, this shouldn’t be that much harder.

How to Make Blueberry Cream Pie:

Begin by making the custard as it will require some time to cool. In a small saucepan, cook milk, egg yolks, sugar, and cornstarch over medium heat, whisking constantly until mixture thickens and boils. Stir in vanilla and butter. For your convenience, there is a full ingredient list and detailed instructions in the printable recipe card below.

Transfer custard to a bowl, press plastic wrap onto the surface (to prevent a skin from forming on the custard) and refrigerate for about two hours.

For the crust, begin by preheating your oven to 375 degrees F. Then, mix together the graham cracker crumbs, coconut, sugar, and melted butter until combined. Press mixture evenly into an 8 or 9 inch pie plate. Bake for seven minutes. Allow the crust to cool.

In a medium saucepan, mix one cup of blueberries with sugar, cornstarch, and water. Bring to a boil over high heat. Cook two minutes to thicken while stirring. Stir in lemon juice and butter. Remove from heat and let cool. Gently stir in remaining three cups of blueberries.

Finally, spread the chilled custard into the bottom of the chilled coconut graham cracker crust. Top with the berry mixture and refrigerate until set. About three hours.

Slice, serve, and savor!

Since I seem to have issues with making an extremely traditional pie, I decided to mix things up a bit and add some coconut to my graham cracker crust.

Why not, right? The more flavors we can bring to this pie party, the better.

Want more pie recipes? These are some of my favorites:

Talk about magic. This is the type of dessert that summers are made for! Creamy custard, tart berries, and a little crunch in the crust. It’s heaven in a pie pan.

It’s also a perfect recipe for helping to settle the unsettledness. At least for today.

Yesterday I showed you my freshly pained entryway. Among other things (welcome mat, coat hooks, and maybe a change in decor), I needed a light for this space. During the day the new door allows plenty of sunlight to shine in. However, in the evenings, this area is too shadowy to be welcoming.

DIY Pendant Sconce | Inspired by Charm

I searched online for a sconce that would work, but wasn’t loving what I found in my price range. (The ones I really liked were $300+). That’s when I decided this would be a fun DIY project! I’ve seen a few other fabulous bloggers create something like this so I thought I’d give it a go.

DIY Pendant Sconce | Inspired by Charm

This is an insanely simple DIY project that I’m certain even a novice could tackle. Plus, the end results are totally cute.

DIY Pendant Sconce

Here’s what you will need:

wire and socket (you can find similar ones here.)
wood bracket (Ikea)
wood stain (or paint) and sealer
drill and bit
two screws
light bulb

You’re going to begin with your wood bracket. The bracket comes drilled with two of the holes you need. You’ll need to drill one more hole at the bottom of the diagonal support bracket in order to run your wire through all of the holes.

DIY Pendant Sconce | Inspired by Charm

I also had to make the other two holes a bit larger (just use a larger drill bit and re-drill the holes) to fit the wire through.

DIY Pendant Sconce | Inspired by Charm

Once you have three holes that are the same size, paint or stain /seal your bracket. Use any color or stain you like.

When the paint / stain is dry, run your wire through the holes. Begin with the first hole you drilled, then work your way to the front.

DIY Pendant Sconce | Inspired by Charm

With the wire in place, attach the socket. (Since I’m not an electrician, I’m not going to give you the details on how to do this. It’s really simple, however. A quick Google search will show you how.)

Then use the screws and a drill to mount the bracket to the wall.

At this point you can adjust the cord to whatever length you’d like. Insert the bulb, plug in the wire cord, and flip the switch.

DIY Pendant Sconce | Inspired by Charm

That’s it, friends. Your new DIY sconce is ready to light up your life!

DIY Pendant Sconce | Inspired by Charm

I told you it was simple! And totally cute, right?

I’m so happy this little area is taking shape. It’s been driving me bananas for months. What fun DIY projects are you working on?

Happy Cinco de Mayo, friends! I hope you had a fabulous weekend. It was a little rainy and chilly around here, so I decided to spend most of the weekend inside completing a couple projects. If you remember, a few weeks ago I got three new entry doors installed in my house.

Color in the Entryway | Inspired by Charm

One of those doors was my front door. As you walk in that door, there is a small entryway between my office and dining room. Last year I had a leak in the bathroom above this space. When I painted the office, I was able to fix most of the issues, but this little entryway needed some love as well. I was going to paint it when I painted the office, but decided against that since I assumed the molding around the front door would be disturbed when the new door was installed. Long story short, I finally got this area painted.

Color in the Entryway | Inspired by Charm

While it’s not a huge space, it actually took most of Sunday. All of the trim, ceiling, and walls got a fresh coat!

Color in the Entryway | Inspired by Charm

Initially, I had planned to paint the walls the same color as the office, Aloof Gray. After giving it some more thought, I decided I needed to bring some color back into my life.

Color in the Entryway | Inspired by Charm

I’m not sure how I got there, but Banana Cream from Sherwin Williams was the winner. Fun fact: this is actually a lighter version of the color my dining room used to be before going gray.

Color in the Entryway | Inspired by Charm

As of right now, I really like the color, however I do not love it. Yet. I was hoping the current accessories would work with the new color, but they just aren’t doing it for me. I’m thinking about switching things around and going with a yellow, navy, and teal color scheme.

However, what I do love about the color is that it’s so welcoming and cheery for an entry. I always hated this space because it was dark and dreary. Now it’s so sunny and happiness inducing. Especially when you first walk into the space. Ultimately, I think the color will work. If not, I’ll try something else.

Color in the Entryway | Inspired by Charm

I’m now on the hunt for some front door decor. (As much as I love my bunny wreath, it’s no longer Easter.) I’m actually struggling with what to put on the front door. I want something unique and colorful. Any suggestions or sources?

Color in the Entryway | Inspired by Charm

This space also lacks any sort of light. Today I’m working up a little DIY fixture and, if all goes well, I’ll be sharing that on the blog tomorrow.

What do you think of the new color?

This Raspberry Beer Cocktail is the perfect summer cocktail. Made punch-style, it’s a refreshing beverage everyone will love.

Raspberry Beer Cocktail | Inspired by Charm

Raspberry Beer Cocktail:

I don’t know about you, but I am desperate for summer to get here. I’ve literally banned myself from looking at the weather online because it only makes me frustrated. I am hoping that old saying is true: “April showers bring May flowers.” With the coming of May I’m looking forward to all things summer and to get ready and have started to gather new recipes to try this season.

Raspberry Beer Cocktail | Inspired by Charm

Naturally, I need to throw in a few easy and refreshing cocktails for sipping poolside or packing up for an impromptu camping trip. To kick off this summer cocktail season, I’ve choseh this Raspberry Beer Cocktail. I was introduced to this deliciousness last summer when my dad’s wife whipped up a batch for a pool party.

We bobbed around in the pool and drank it red-solo-cup style. It was fabulous. Not only was the refreshment delicious, but the taste certainly conjured up wonderful memories in the sun.

I also love this cocktail because it’s ridiculously easy to make. Toss all of the ingredients into a bowl or pitcher, and you’re ready to go. Your guests are free to help themselves and you can walk away and enjoy the party.

Raspberry Beer Cocktail | Inspired by Charm

Yes, this drink does contain beer, but if you’re not a beer fan, have no fear. You can barely taste the beer. The tart fruit and juicy raspberries are the star of the show.

Raspberry Beer Cocktail | Inspired by Charm

How to make this Raspberry Beer Cocktail:

It’s really simple!

  • In a large jar or pitcher, stir together the beer, lemonade concentrate, and vodka.
  • Add ice and garnish with fresh raspberries and lemon and limes slices.
  • Serve in a glass with ice.

And that’s it! Now you’re ready for the party to begin!

I really love this recipe and I think you will, too. It’s such a great summer cocktail.

Looking for more summer cocktail ideas? Try these tasty recipes:

You probably noticed this amazing living succulent wreath hiding in the background of these photos. Amazing, right? It’s patiently awaiting the move to it’s permanent location on my backdoor, just as soon as the weather cooperates.

Raspberry Beer Cocktail | Inspired by Charm

I picked it up via RedEnvelope and I’m so pleased with it! I had one on my backdoor last year and loved it so much that I had to get another for this year. I’m trying to avoid using any sort of fake flowers, so this is a stunning alternative.

Raspberry Beer Cocktail | Inspired by Charm

OK, summer, the cocktails are poured and the wreaths are ready to be hung! Let’s do this.

These Frosted Sugar Cookie Bars are a delicious and easy way to feed a crowd. And, with an ombre inspired frosting, they are beautiful too!

Frosted Sugar Cookie Bars | Inspired by Charm

Frosted Sugar Cookie Bars:

I’m always on the hunt for super simple desserts that not only taste fabulous, but look amazing, too. After seeing various recipes for Sugar Cookie Bars on Pinterest, I thought it was time to give them a try.

Frosted Sugar Cookie Bars | Inspired by Charm

Frosted Sugar Cookie Bars | Inspired by Charm

For these sugar cookie bars, I took inspiration from a bouquet of orange tulips and created an ombre effect with the frosting on top of the bars. I think it turned out beautifully.

Frosted Sugar Cookie Bars | Inspired by Charm

How to Make Frosted Sugar Cookie Bars:

Begin by lining a 15x10x1-inch baking sheet with aluminum foil. (You can use a 13×9-inch pan for thicker cookies.) Grease the foil with cooking spray. Also, preheat your oven to 375 degrees F.

In a large bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside. For your convenience, there is a full ingredient list and detailed instructions in the printable recipe card below.

Cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy, about 3 minutes. Then, incorporate the egg, sour cream, and vanilla. Slowly add the flour mixture until well combined.

Very gently press the dough into the foil-lined baking pan. Bake for 14-17 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden. Allow to cool in the baking pan.

For the frosting, begin by creaming the butter. Then, slowly add the confectioners’ sugar, alternating with half and half until you achieve the desired consistency. Then add the vanilla and almond extract along with the salt. Food coloring can also be incorporated at this time. (I used four different colors to create an ombre effect.

Frosted Sugar Cookie Bars | Inspired by Charm

Since I know some of you are going to ask, I used AmeriColor gel food coloring. (I have this set and love it!)

The darkest pink is fuchsia. The lighter pink is deep pink with with a teeny bit of fuchsia. The lighter orange / peach is deep pink and orange. And the orange is orange.

Once the sugar cookie bars are cool, spread on the frosting. To achieve an ombre effect like I did, spread on the four different color frostings leaving about a half inch gap in between each. Then, blend them together. If desired, top with sprinkles before the frosting sets.

Aren’t they gorgeous?

I used a larger baking sheet, but if you want thicker bars, stick with a 13×9-inch pan. I also highly recommend lining the pan with aluminum foil. This makes it a breeze to get the bars out of the pan!

Ingredients

Frosting

Instructions

  • Begin by lining a 15x10x1-inch baking sheet with aluminum foil. (You can use a 13x9-inch pan for thicker cookies.) Grease the foil with cooking spray. Also, preheat your oven to 375 degrees F.
  • In a large bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  • Cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy, about 3 minutes. Then, incorporate the egg, sour cream, and vanilla. Slowly add the flour mixture until well combined.
  • Very gently press the dough into the foil-lined baking pan. Bake for 14-17 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden. Allow to cool in the baking pan.
  • For the frosting, begin by creaming the butter. Then, slowly add the confectioners' sugar, alternating with half and half until you achieve the desired consistency. Then add the vanilla and almond extract along with the salt. Food coloring can also be incorporated at this time. (I used four different colors to create an ombre effect.)
  • Once the sugar cookie bars are cool, spread on the frosting. To achieve an ombre effect like I did, spread on the four different color frostings leaving about a half inch gap in between each. Then, blend them together. If desired, top with sprinkles before the frosting sets.

Hey there, friends! Today I’m back with another quick and easy, but totally fabulous DIY. For the past couple weeks, my dining room table has become a bit of a catchall. (I think this happens to the best of us at times.) The table was definitely in need of a little refresh. And with so much color blooming outside, I was craving some serious color inside.

Gold-Dipped Mason Jars | Inspired by Charm

Last week I stumbled across these new green mason jars. Now I know mason jars are a little overplayed these days, but I could not resist having some fun with these green ones. There were just too perfect.

Gold-Dipped Mason Jars | Inspired by Charm

I decided to jazz them up a bit with gold spray paint and then fill them with flowers and scatter them around my table. I am loving the look since it’s no secret that gold and I are BFFs. However, I do want you to know that I tryied to mix it up for all of you. I originally wanted to do the jars in copper, but after finding no copper spray paint at multiple stores, I opted for gold. Maybe I’ll have better luck next time.

Gold-Dipped Mason Jars

Ok, for this little project, you will need: mason jars, blue painters tape, gold (or any color you’d like) spray paint, and some flowers.

Gold-Dipped Mason Jars | Inspired by Charm

Begin by taping off the mason jars. I wanted to give my jars a paint-dipped look so I went with mostly sharp diagonal lines. Be sure to press on your tape firmly to prevent drips.

Gold-Dipped Mason Jars | Inspired by Charm

Cover all the areas of the jar that you do not want painted.

Then, give them a quick coat of spray paint. I recommend three very light coats, instead of one heavy coat.

Gold-Dipped Mason Jars | Inspired by Charm

After the paint is dry, simply remove the tape.

It is likely that some paint will have leaked under the tape. Just used a sharp object to scrap it off. It should come off easily.

Gold-Dipped Mason Jars | Inspired by Charm

Finally, add water and tuck in flowers. Your Gold-Dipped Mason Jars are complete!

Gold-Dipped Mason Jars | Inspired by Charm

A round basket added texture and big blue vases provided even more sparkle and another burst of bright color. Pretty snazzy, right?

Gold-Dipped Mason Jars | Inspired by Charm

All in all, I’m loving the new look and this little DIY. Hopefully, it will encourage me to keep my table clutter free. Now that spring has finally arrived, I have this almost-compulsive desire to start planting and playing in the dirt Because there’s still a chance of frost around these parts until June, I have to pace myself. But how? The answer: create another indoor garden.

Succulent Garden Bowl | Inspired by Charm

When I was in California a few weeks ago, I came across these gorgeous succulent bowls at one of the area shopping centers. I wanted to buy one on the spot, but figured I’d have trouble bringing it home. I didn’t want to be “the guy that held up the security line trying to smuggle a succulent garden to Pennsylvania.” Instead, I snapped a picture with my phone and decided I could DIY one when I returned home. And that’s exactly what I did.

Succulent Garden Bowl | Inspired by Charm

Recreating this little bowl garden was sort of a surreal experience for me because it brought back such wonderful memories of my trip to California. For as long as I can remember I’ve wanted to visit the West Coast. Who would have thought that, because of this crazy and magical blogging career, that I’d be able to achieve so many dreams?! This little bowl garden is not just about growing plants, it’s about growing so much more than that. My friends at Miracle-Gro couldn’t agree more. Recently, they launched their Gro Something Greater campaign and want to hear from you about the great things that you are growing and why you love to garden. Share your ideas with them with #GroSomethingGreater on Facebook and Twitter.

Succulent Garden Bowl | Inspired by Charm

But before you head off to do that, let me show you how I made this Succulent Garden Bowl.

Succulent Garden Bowl | Inspired by Charm

This is probably one of the coolest gardening projectsI’ve ever put together. Don’t you think?

Succulent Garden Bowl | Inspired by Charm

Succulent Garden Bowl

Here’s what you will need:

large glass bowl (This is where I got mine.)
succulents and cacti
stones
sphagnum moss
reindeer moss
Miracle-Gro Cactus, Palm & Citrus Soil

(Stones, succulents, and cacti are from Wal-mart. Both mosses were purchased on Amazon.)

Succulent Garden Bowl | Inspired by Charm

Start by placing a layer of small stones in the bottom of your dish; then add a layer of sphagnum moss. The moss will help prevent the soil from falling in-between the stones.

Succulent Garden Bowl | Inspired by Charm

Succulent Garden Bowl | Inspired by Charm

Once the sphagnum moss is in place, add a layer of soil. You’ll want this to be about 1 – 2 inches from the top of your bowl.

Succulent Garden Bowl | Inspired by Charm

Succulent Garden Bowl | Inspired by Charm

Then, you’ll start filling in your succulents and cacti. Keep your plants close together. That’s one of the reasons this garden looks so interesting. I just tucked my plants about 1/2 inch into the existing layer of soil and then added more soil as I added plants.

Succulent Garden Bowl | Inspired by Charm

Once all of your plants are in and the roots are covered with soil, add a final layer of reindeer moss.

Succulent Garden Bowl | Inspired by Charm

After that, your garden is complete!

Succulent Garden Bowl | Inspired by Charm

With succulents and cacti, I water sporadically and keep the soil relatively dry. Other than that, your garden just needs lots of sunlight.

Succulent Garden Bowl | Inspired by Charm

I ended up making two different sizes and I’m so pleased with how they both turned out.

Succulent Garden Bowl | Inspired by Charm

This was the perfect little project to help satisfy my gardening itch until I can get outside and really start planting. How about you? Are you ready to get your hands in the soil?

Hey there, friends! Are you sick of recipes, yet? Don’t worry, I am too. I’ve actually been trying to eat healthier / lighter / less, and all of this food isn’t helping. So I’m hoping to get back to posting about some projects and decorating. Plus, now that spring is here I need to do some redecorating, cleaning, and decluttering. Does anyone else get that urge this time of year?

Today I thought we’d start with a little decorating. When I made over my office, I added shelves, and it’s been a while since I showed them to you. I also want to explain how I put things together and note / link where I got things in case anyone is interested.

Bookshelf Styling | Inspired by Charm

First off, these shelves are always changing, and it took some time to pull things together. While I could have dressed the shelves in a few hours, I didn’t because I love the curation process. I’m also super pleased with how they turned out. To me the look is very personal and collected and it speaks so much to where my style is right now. It’s obviously not going to suit everyone, and I kind of love that, too. I don’t really want it to look like anyone else’s home.

Bookshelf Styling | Inspired by Charm

And while most of this did happen organically, I do follow a few “rules” when it comes to decorating spaces like this. You may remember these guidelines from my coffee table styling post. (You can check that out here.) Anyway, here is what I tried to keep in mind.

Function – what you need this space to do.

Color – stay within your color palette.

Shapes – use a variety of shapes to create balance and add diversity.

Texture / Pattern – use different ones to create visual interest.

Spacing – leave some empty space (It’s the difference between collected and cluttered.)

Foliage – flowers and plants complete a space.

Sparkle – add something that sparkles – glass, metallic, mirrors, crystals, etc.

Personal – incorporate things that are meaningful and special to you.

Ultimately, these bookshelves need to function as beautiful storage. I love pretty things and need a place to put them so that I can enjoy them and they can also decorate my space. Done and done. My office area has a pretty wide color scheme: bold red, teal, sunny yellow, chartreuse, and navy. For the most part, I stuck with those colors on my shelves, however because ofbook spines and other pieces, I wasn’t too particular about a few different colors here and there.

Bookshelf Styling | Inspired by Charm

There’s obviously a variety of shapes happening here as well. I think this is one of the most important rules. Round vase, square books, geometric sculptures, and a few free-form shapes add interest. I also pulled in texture with some baskets at the bottom and included natural wood via a clock, the base of my tree sculpture, and a few other accessories.

Bookshelf Styling | Inspired by Charm

While I will continue to add things, I never want the shelves to feel cluttered. Leaving some empty space, a place for your eyes to rest, is always a good idea. Plus, open spaces help individual / important pieces stand out. While there aren’t any in-your-face botanical elements on these shelves, I did tuck in one succulent and my DIY clay cactus garden. Sparkle is always an easy addition for me. Gold and brass are my metals of choice for this space so I included them wherever possible. I even used a few of the the gold-leaf boxes I made at Christmas.

Bookshelf Styling | Inspired by Charm

Bookshelf Styling | Inspired by Charm

With this project, I added a new point to my design guidelines – something personal. As tempting as it can be to run to Target or HomeGoods and fill your shelf up with beautiful things you find there, it’s also important to make sure to incorporate items that have personal significance. This can be done with photographs, but I like to use more unique elements as well. The tiger head Christmas ornament, a gift from my friend, is one of my favorites. And, it’s the one piece that gets the most compliments. As I mentioned previously, I also put in a few of my own DIY items, plus a few mementos from trips I’ve taken over the past few years. Personal pieces are a must.

IMG_3518

And those are my shelves.

Bookshelf Styling | Inspired by Charm

If you haven’t noticed, I’d also like to point out all of the fabulous light, even from this angle, that my new front doors let it. Amazing, right? I’m still so in love with them.

Bookshelf Styling | Inspired by Charm

I hope my explanation helps you if you struggle with decorating shelves in your space. Ultimately, just take your time with it and allow your curation to happen organically. Choose things that make your heart sing and you really can’t go wrong.

Cherry Cream Cheese Bars:

I’m a big fan of dessert bar recipes like these Cherry Cream Cheese Bars. Why?

Well, typically recipes like these are really simple to make and tend to feed crowd. That’s certainly the case with this recipe as well!

How to make Cherry Cream Cheese Bars:

What makes these bars particularly tasty is it’s layers. It starts off with a layer of cake (which is so simple to make) and then followed by a cream cheese layer.

After that, sweet cherry pie filling gets layered on, followed by big dollops of cake. Yum!

Once the whole thing is cooled, these Cherry Cream Cheese Bars get a drizzle of confectioners’ sugar glaze for a finished sweet touch. Perfection!

Cherry Cream Cheese Bars| Inspired by Charm

The resulting bars are amazingly delicious. They would be amazing without the layer of cream cheese, but it just takes them to a whole other level of awesomeness.

Let me show you how to make them.

How to Make Cherry Cream Cheese Bars:

Begin by preheating your oven to 350 degrees F.

With a stand mixer, cream together the butter, sugar, and salt until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at time. Beat well after each addition. Then, put in the vanilla and almond extract. Finally, gradually add in the flour and baking powder. For your convenience, there is a full ingredient list and detailed instructions in the printable recipe card below.

Spread about 2 1/2 cups of this batter into a greased 15x10x1-inch baking sheet. (I found it easiest to use an offset spatula greased with a little cooking oil to spread out the batter.)

In a medium-size bowl, beat together cream cheese, sugar, and egg. Add this on top of the first layer of batter. Then, spread out the cherry pie filling.

Drop the remaining batter by spoonfuls over the filling. Bake about 35-40 minutes or until golden brown. Cool in pan on a wire rack.

Once the bars are cool, in a small bowl mix together confectioners’ sugar, extracts, and enough milk to reach a drizzling consistency. Drizzle over the top.

These Strawberry Hand Pies are all the things you love about pie, but in a handheld version. These hand pies are a delicious and cute summer dessert recipe.

Strawberry Hand Pies | Inspired by Charm

Strawberry Hand Pies:

Today are making some adorable and delicious strawberry hand pies. Yum!

For those of you who are new to IBC, I’m using this year to perfect my pie making skills with my series “A Year of Pie.

After trying a few more traditional pies, I’m now having fun mixing things up with unique takes on classic recipes.

My latest creations are these delicious Strawberry Hand Pies.

Since spring and summer are refusing to show their faces around PA (and I say spring and summer because usually winter is so long that spring lasts about a week and then summer is here.), I decided to take matters into my own hands and bring summer to my house.

For me, when it comes to fruit, there is nothing more summery than strawberries. And seriously, who doesn’t want a pie that you can hold in your hands.

How To Make Strawberry Hand Pies:

Begin by preheating your oven to 400 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with a silicone mat or parchment paper and set aside.

Next, in a medium bowl, combine strawberries, sugar, cornstarch, and vanilla and set aside.

Working with half of your prepared pie dough at a time, on a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough until it is about 1/8 inch thick. Using a 6-inch cookie cutter (or round bowl or plate with a 6-inch diameter), begin cutting out your rounds. Repeat with the remaining half of the dough.

Form any excess dough back into a ball, roll out and cut again. Repeat this until you’ve used as much dough as possible.

Strawberry Hand Pies | Inspired by Charm

Strawberry Hand Pies | Inspired by Charm

With all of the rounds cut, in a small bowl, whisk together the egg and water. Lightly brush this around the edges of each pie dough round. Then, place about 2 – 3 tablespoons of the strawberry filling onto one-half of each round. Fold the opposite side of the dough round over to enclose forming a half circle.

Using a fork, gently press the edges together to seal; then pierce the top of each pie to allow any steam to escape. Brush the tops of each hand pie with the egg wash and then generously sprinkle each with sanding sugar.

Bake for about 20 to 25 minutes until the pies are golden brown. Transfer the pies to a wire rack to cool slightly before serving.

And that’s it! Adorable and delicious little hand pies!

Strawberry Hand Pies | Inspired by Charm

While these are delicious on their own, if you like a little more sweetness, serve them with a scoop of ice cream. You could also drizzle them with a sugar glaze. Yum! However, for this recipe, I just opted with a little sanding sugar on top.

Strawberry Hand Pies | Inspired by Charm

I really like to serve these Strawberry Hand Pies at an informal brunch. They are also great for a picnic or even a delicious homemade snack on the road. While I love the strawberry filling, you can easily substitute whatever fruit you’d like.

As you know, I’ve been making progress in my office / living room. However, until recently my walls have been pretty bare. I’ve tossed around many ideas on how to fill the spaces, but have been afraid to pull the trigger. Since looking at empty walls is no fun, I thought I would give DIY art a try. Other than purchasing several blank canvases, I used supplies I had on hand. I figured that if I ended up hating the end result, it wouldn’t be a huge drain on my wallet. Thankfully though, I’m super pleased with how my Colorful DIY Art turned out.

DIY Colorful Artwork | Inspired by Charm

About a month ago I came across this gorgeous space / home in Melbourne, Australia. I was immediately attracted to the art that is part of a gallery wall in one of the rooms. I came back to that very image when creating my DIY art.

With some color and design changes, plus a little gold leaf, I’d say that I have a pretty fabulous and fairly inexpensive new and personal art collection for above my TV.

DIY Colorful Artwork | Inspired by Charm

What do you think?

DIY Colorful Artwork | Inspired by Charm

I’m really happy with the way the canvases turned out. The colors match my space perfectly, and the geometric lines work great with the other elements in the room. I think they will be hanging around for a while.

DIY Colorful Artwork | Inspired by Charm

In case you want to create the look for your space, let me explain what I did.

Here’s what you will need:
artist canvas
paint
painters tape
paint brush
gold leaf

Begin by taping off areas of the canvas you want to paint. Be sure to press the tape down firmly to ensure that none of your paint bleeds.

DIY Colorful Artwork | Inspired by Charm

Using your paint brush, apply paint to your canvas; then immediately remove the tape. Allow the paint to dry and add more tape and more paint. Repeat the process until you achieve your desired design.

DIY Colorful Artwork | Inspired by Charm

To give your canvas a bit of bling, apply gold leaf. I used Martha’s Stewart’s which is available at most craft stores.

And that’s it!

DIY Colorful Artwork | Inspired by Charm

This project does take a little time and patience, but it’s a fairly simple process and the results speak for themselves.

DIY Colorful Artwork | Inspired by Charm

As you can see from my finished pieces, I ended up following the patterns in the inspiration picture fairly closely. However, you can get as creative as you’d like with your designs.

What I also love about this art is that you can choose colors to suit your space.

DIY Colorful Artwork | Inspired by Charm

I hung all off the pieces with removable picture hanging strips. This made lining everything up so amazingly easy. Plus, I didn’t have to put six more holes in my newly painted walls. I usually don’t trust these strips, but the canvas is pretty light, so I expect them to stay in place.

DIY Colorful Artwork | Inspired by Charm

One wall down and a few more to go. Do you like my Colorful DIY Art? Are you going to make some pieces for that blank wall in your home?

Crostata is the lazy man’s pie. However, this Blackberry Crostata recipe is anything but lazy. With a flaky crust and rich berry flavor, this crostata recipe may become your new favorite summer dessert!

Blackberry Crostata Recipe | Inspired by Charm #ayearofpie

Blackberry Crostata:

Happy Friday, everyone! It’s the first official Friday of Spring and I couldn’t be more excited.  Yesterday I was busy in the kitchen making a couple pies for “A Year of Pie.” I’ll share one of the pies with you today: this Blackberry Crostata Recipe! (I’m saving the other for next week.)

Also, just a few minutes ago, I posted IBC’s Go-To Pie Crust. I know I haven’t been making pies that long, but after using this recipe for the past three pies, I’m confident in saying that I love it and that, moving forward, it will be my go-to crust. Now I can just link back to that post when I’m using a recipe involving that particular crust.

Blackberry Crostata | Inspired by Charm #ayearofpie

With that out of the way, let’s get to today’s pie!

What is a Crostata?

A number of you requested a rustic pie, crostata, galette, or whatever you want to call it, so I figured I would tackle that today.

I actually love this style of pie. In my opinion, when it comes to baking, the more imperfect or homemade looking the better. There’s just something about a rustic pie that like feels like home.

Plus, who wants to fuss over a cake for hours when all you really want to do is dive in with a fork with a big ol’ glass of milk on the side.

This recipe is for a fairly large crostata. I should also mention that the crust is pretty thick here. Which, I kind of love. (I could seriously just eat dough and ice cream.) However, if you like your pie crust a little thinner, only use 1/2 or 1/3 of the dough and save the rest for something else. Make it the way you like it.

Either way, you’re going to end up with a wonderfully delicious and fruity crostata.

How to Make Blackberry Crostata?

  • Begin by preheating your oven to 400 degrees F. Also line a baking sheet with parchment paper so it will be ready after you’ve rolled out the crust. For your convenience, there is a full ingredient list and detailed instructions in the printable recipe card below.
  • In a large bowl combine blackberries, sugar, lemon zest, lemon juice, cinnamon, almond extract, and cornstarch. Stir until combined; then set aside.
  • On a lightly floured work surface, roll out your pie dough into a large circle about 1/4″ thick. Transfer the pie dough to your baking sheet.
  • Pour the blackberry mixture onto the center of the dough. Gently pull the side of the dough up and around the blackberries, leaving some of the fruit in the center still exposed.
  • In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and water. Brush on the pie crust; then sprinkle generously with the sanding sugar.
  • Bake the crostata at 400 degrees F for about 40 – 50 minutes or until the fruit is bubbly and the crust is golden.
  • For a firm filling, allow the crostata to cool completely before cutting and serving. Or serve warm if you prefer a slightly runnier filling.

Like this recipe? I have a hunch you’ll like these too:

As with all fruit pies, I highly recommend this with a big scoop (or two) of vanilla ice cream. A little slice of heaven!

If you prepare your dough in advance, even the day before, this comes together so quickly. And, when you can serve it with fresh, in-season fruit, it is the bomb diggity.

Now you’re armed and ready to try this Blackberry Crostata recipe!

Have an amazing weekend, everyone! I hope the sun is shining and the birds are singing for this first weekend of spring!

This Homemade Pie Crust recipe has become my go-to when I want to bake a pie. It’s easy to make and results in a beautiful pie crust.

IBC's Go-To Pie Crust | Inspired by Charm #ayearofpie

My Go-To Homemade Pie Crust:

This is the year I’m honing my pie making skills After only a few months into “A Year of Pie” I’ve already found a recipe that has become my go-to for crust.

The recipe uses both butter and Crisco (the best of both worlds) and comes together in a food processor, so the crust is really simple and almost foolproof.

IBC's Go-To Pie Crust | Inspired by Charm #ayearofpie

My crust is loosely based on Ina Garten’s Perfect Pie Crust. A big thanks to the “Queen of the Kitchen” who is one of my cooking inspirations.

IBC's Go-To Pie Crust | Inspired by Charm #ayearofpie

Let’s make some crust!

How To Make Homemade Pie Crust:

In a food processor fitted with a steel blade, add the flour, salt, and sugar. Pulse a few times to mix.

Add the butter and shortening. Pulse until the butter is about the size of peas.

With the machine on low, pour the ice water down the feed tube and pulse until the dough begins to form into a ball.

Salted Caramel Honeycrisp Apple Pie #saltedcaramel #honeycrisp #applepie #pie #dessert #recipe #fallbaking #caramel

Then, place the dough onto a floured surface and roll into a ball. If you still have some dry flour, just sprinkle a little more water onto it until it combines with the rest of the ball.

Cut the dough in half (for a pie with a top and a bottom crust) or leave it whole. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least thirty minutes.

Salted Caramel Honeycrisp Apple Pie #saltedcaramel #honeycrisp #applepie #pie #dessert #recipe #fallbaking #caramel

And that’s it! A delightfully flaky crust that’s perfect for pies, crostata, mini-pies, and hand pies.

If you need ideas for using this crust, check out a few of my delicious pie recipes below.

These Baked Zucchini Fries are a delicious and healthy side dish recipe you’re going to love!

If you’ve been following cooking on IBC, you’ll know that I’m a huge fan of appetizers and desserts (or apps and zerts for my fellow Parks and Rec fans). I think my love for apps and zerts comes from a combination of things. First, they are typical easy to make. Second, they are usually ultra-flavorful. Just one little bite and your taste buds are happy. Finally, they are designed for sharing.

Baked Zucchini Fries:

Baked Zucchini Fries | Inspired by Charm

Among my personal goals for 2014 is to have more get-togethers. I’m always making delicious treats, but rarely have parties to share them with friends and family. I typically usually pack up the leftovers and send them on their way. For me cooking and baking for family and friends and enjoying their company is one of the best feelings. So, doing more of that this year is essential.

When going out to eat, zucchini fries are one of my favorites. However, they are usually deep fried and not so healthy. Today I thought I would try a healthy homemade version that was baked instead of fried.

Baked Zucchini Fries | Inspired by Charm

How to Make Baked Zucchini Fries:

The results were delicious and very easy to make. I paired them with a dipping sauce that is reminiscent of something that would come with a blooming onion. Since it’s not as healthy as the baked zucchini fries, you could certainly substitute a marinara sauce. I also found that these fries, with the spices and Parmesan cheese, are also quite good on their own. No dipping sauce required.

Baked Zucchini Fries | Inspired by Charm

Let me show you how to make them.

It’s really that simple!

Friends and family who are visiting will instantly feel welcome and at home if you serve up a plate of these.

Here’s to many fabulous get-togethers in 2014! Now I’m off to gobble up the rest of these zucchini fries. Give them a try. You’ll be glad you did.

I predicted this day would come. Back when I painted my office / living room, I told my friend Krista that I loved the turquoise color I chose for above my fireplace, but I had a feeling I would eventually tire of it. Well, it’s happened.

A Change of Color | Inspired by Charm

Goodbye, turquoise. Hello, gray.

A Change of Color | Inspired by Charm

Please don’t get me wrong. I loved the pop of color, but it just became too much for me. As I was accessorizing and furnishing the room, it seemed that it was fighting with everything I was trying to accomplish. Immediately after swapping out the bold color with a neutral gray (which is Sensible Hue from Sherwin Williams – a shade darker than the wall color, Aloof Gray.), the room felt so much calmer. Plus, it’s already allowed me to have more fun with the furnishings and accessories.

A Change of Color | Inspired by Charm

Speaking of accessories, I picked up a pair of these new poufs from Target. I’d been seeing them in lots of places and became obsessed. Not only do I love the color and pattern, but they provide a little extra seating for my space. (And apparently a new place for the cats to hang out.)

A Change of Color | Inspired by Charm

A Change of Color | Inspired by Charm   I always think it’s amazing how much a few simple changes can alter a space. What little tweaks have you made in your space that have made a big difference?

Purple Velvet Cupcakes:

Happy St. Patrick’s Day, friends! You’d think I would have something green-inspired on the blog today, but I’m going in another direction.

Yesterday my family held a benefit for my Aunt Mary who is battling Stage IV pancreatic cancer. We started the day before sunrise and by sunset had served up spaghetti dinners to over 300 people, raffled off more than 50 gift baskets, and sold bake goods that extended across six long tables. While the circumstances behind the event are heart breaking, it was amazing to see so many friends and family rally around my aunt.

All things considered, it was wonderful day and a true privilege to honor and support my awesome Aunt Mary.

Since there was a bake sale, you know I had to get involved in the action and provide a few goodies from the IBC kitchen! Purple is the color of support for pancreatic cancer so I thought a twist on red velvet would be perfect.

How to Make Purple Velvet Cupcakes:

The twist: I used a standard white cake mix, added the red velvet flavoring, and then turned it purple. The resulting cupcakes were not only festive, but totally delicious.

Paired with my go-to cream cheese frosting (tinted pale purple) and a few mini-flowers I picked up at Walmart, these cupcakes were adorable and loaded with flavor.

Like last week, when I adapted a box cake mix to make my Cinnamon and Sugar Cake, this recipe comes together very quickly. The small changes add richness and moisture to the cake. It’s actually hard to believe it’s a boxed mix.

**This giveaway has ended**

Today is National Pi Day and while math really doesn’t do much for me, pi(e) certainly does. Because of my “A Year of Pie” series, a few weeks ago my friends at Target asked if I wanted to team up with them to create a pie for National Pi Day. Of course my response was a resounding YES! Target + Pie = Amazing. Now that’s some math I can handle.

Last fall I joined Target’s Inner Circle, and it’s been a match made in heaven. This past November I went to their first Holiday House in NYC. More recently, I got the chance to talk to Nate Berkus and I may have another exciting adventure in the very near future. Whatever happens, I’m so thankful to Target and thrilled that I can share all of the ideas, recipes, and experiences with all of you.

Double Cherry Bullseye Pie | Inspired by Charm

Now back to the pie.

Double Cherry Bullseye Pie | Inspired by Charm

When I started my “A Year of Pie” series, Joe (who works for Target) commented on the post and told me that he uses food coloring to paint designs on his pie crusts. What a brilliant idea, right? Think of the possibilities!

So when I was challenged to make this pie, there was basically only one way to go about it: a bullseye.

Double Cherry Bullseye Pie | Inspired by Charm

There’s no denying who this pie is for.

Double Cherry Bullseye Pie | Inspired by Charm

Double Cherry Bullseye Pie | Inspired by Charm

To create the design, I just used a clean, new artist’s paintbrush and some watered down gel food color. It was that easy. However, most of you won’t be painting a bullseye on your pie, so you could do a picture of the fruit inside the pie or a celebratory message. The options are endless!

The inside of the pie is double cherry. A combination of frozen cherries and dried cherries. Served with a scoop of ice cream, it’s to die for! It tastes like a slice of sweet summer. You’re going to love it!

You can read more about this pie and get the recipe over on A Bullseye View.

And to help you celebrate National Pi Day, and recreate this recipe at home, my friends at Target are giving one lucky IBC reader a $100 Target Gift Card! Gotta love that!

This Guinness Float (or Guinness Shake) is a surprisingly delicious combination of Guinness Draught and ice cream to create on tasty dessert-inspired cocktail.

Guinness Float:

For a while now someone has been asking me via the comments to share a recipe for a Guinness Float. I tried to track the comments down, but I couldn’t find them. So hopefully the individual/s who requested this will leave another comment after reading today’s post.

Guinness Shake / Float | Inspired by Charm

Anyway, with St. Patrick’s Day right around the corner, I thought this was the prefect time to tackle this challenge. Plus, Guinness is actually one of my top five favorite beers. Now, I know some of you probably don’t like beer, even more of you probably don’t like Guinness, and even more of you think putting ice cream in beer is totally gross. However, if you ever get the chance to try this combination, I highly recommend you take a taste.

Guinness Shake / Float | Inspired by Charm

To me, Guinness almost has a chocolaty / coffee flavor, so if you consider that, putting it with ice cream is a no brainer. Also, because of the flavor, you might even try different flavors of ice cream, including vanilla, chocolate, or even coffee! I used a combination of vanilla and chocolate. Knowing all of this, even I was a little anxious about how the final product would taste. Needless to say (since I’m sharing the recipe with you), the combination is pretty fantastic. It may become another of my go-to treats!

Guinness Shake / Float | Inspired by Charm

How to Make Guinness Float:

Though it’s pretty straightforward, today I’m sharing two ways to enjoy this delicious combination. The ingredients are basically the same; it’s just the method that varies. This recipe makes two drinks. Let’s get shaking.

Even though the flavor is the same, I prefer the shake. I like all of the flavors nicely combined into silky smoothy goodness.

Okay, so Nate is not actually in my dining room. (I wish!) He is here, however, in design spirit and that’s good enough for me. Let me explain. A few weeks ago I got an email from my friends at Target asking if I wanted to work on a mini-redesign in my house with Nate Berkus and his exclusive collection with Target. Well, after I made sure I wasn’t dreaming and had myself a little freak out, I responded yes and had a call scheduled with him two days later.

Nate Berkus in My Dining Room | Inspired by charm

The folks at Target asked me to pick a room in my house that needed a little refresh. Nate would review pictures and offer suggestions and products during the call. As I’ve mentioned here on IBC, my style has shifted over the past few months. It didn’t take long for me to notice that my dining room could benefit from a little refresh. Basically, I was thinking a few new amazing accessories from his collection would certainly do the trick.

Nate Berkus in My Dining Room | Inspired by charm

It was a Friday morning when Nate called. (And yes, I was completely nervous and probably made a fool of myself on the phone.) To my surprise, Nate had bigger plans for my dining room. His first suggestion was to paint. Honestly, that threw me a bit since I had no intention of painting my dining room. Plus, he wanted me to paint my dining room a dark gray, Dior Gray to be exact. He also had other suggestions for improvement, including moving a few pieces of furniture around and adding in some new accessories. He did, however, say that he loved my curtain panels, which totally made my day because I made them myself a few years ago. Point for Michael! And I have to say, even from the ten-minute call I had with him. he is as kind, genuine, and friendly as you would expect. When the call ended, I was both ridiculously excited and totally nervous. Did I really just talk to Nate Berkus?

Nate Berkus in My Dining Room | Inspired by charm

Anyway, I was honestly most anxious about the paint change. I have had and loved this dining room for so long. However, I put my trust in Nate and went for it! And I’m oh so happy that I did!

Nate Berkus in My Dining Room | Inspired by charm

As you can see, the color, furniture changes, and bold accessories have given me a whole new space. I’m totally in love.

Nate Berkus in My Dining Room | Inspired by charm

As much as I loved my bright yellow dining room, this change is so welcome. Paired with the white molding and touches of green and gold, the gray walls are totally chic. while still warm and inviting.

Nate Berkus in My Dining Room | Inspired by charm

To help me bring this new look together, Target provided many pieces from Nate’s new Spring 2014 collection. You guys know I’ve been a fan of Nate’s designs for some time and I’m especially loving this collection. Everything seems to have a modern twist with lots of graphic patterns, yet it still feels unique and collected. Plus, it’s so affordable. Part of Nate’s philosophy is that a home should be a reflection of the people who live there. So, I used the new pieces that I love and mixed them in with lots of things I already owned.

Nate Berkus in My Dining Room | Inspired by charm

I think I was most excited to get this gold table lamp. Partially because it’s freaking stunning, but I’ve also been looking for a way to include more light in this room since I moved in five years ago.

Nate Berkus in My Dining Room | Inspired by charm

I actually DIY’d the table it’s on. Nate originally suggested using his Hexagonal Side Table (which I love), but it didn’t fit with my radiator. So I designed my own table to match his. It fits perfectly and is super functional.
