Living Room Decor Ideas for Spring #spring #livingroom #decor #decorating #ideas

It’s official! The first day of spring is this week, and I’m giddy with excitement! To celebrate, I thought it’d be fun to give you a look at my living room decor for spring.

You may remember that back in December I updated most of the furnishings in my living room (I also call this my family room.). When I first moved in, I used furniture from my former apartment. That worked OK for a while, but I wanted the room to function better and look brighter.

Just in case you missed that post, let me show you around the space and share my latest additions for spring!

Living Room Decor Ideas for Spring:

In reworking the space, I opted for two sofas instead of one. What a good decision that has been! I now have much more seating, and the light upholstery makes the room feel larger!

(The sofa, ottoman, and tv console are from Raymour & Flanigan, You can ready more about them in this post.)

For spring, I decided to update the living room decor with new throw pillows. After I put away everything from the holidays, the space was looking a bit bland.

I tried a few different color pillows but ended up loving this mauve color. I was lucky to find all of these pillows at HomeGoods. The larger mauve ones are from Ralph Lauren and seem to be high quality. I found the small maroon and white striped ones in the clearance section for only $8 each. Score!

To my eye, the colors in the pillows pick up the subtle purples in the brick, the various browns in the room, and the black in the rug.

Living Room Decor Ideas for Spring #spring #livingroom #decor #decorating #ideas

Oh, and speaking of the rug, many of you are still asking for the source. You can find it here. I ordered the 9×12 in black. I’ve been pleased with the purchase, except that the material does tend to clog up my vacuum and vacuum brush. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the shedding will end soon, but only time will tell.

Living Room Decor Ideas for Spring #spring #livingroom #decor #decorating #ideas

On my ottoman, I placed this mirrored round serving tray. In fact, it’s just a mirror. To my delight, Schoolhouse recently opened a brick-and-mortar store here in Pittsburgh. (You must visit if you’re local or happen to be in the area.) Anywho, when I was at the store, they had a display set up this way, and I really loved how it looked.

Along with the mirror, there are a few books and vases that I found at Target. (Here and here.) I couldn’t believe how well the colors worked with the new pillows.

Living Room Decor Ideas for Spring #spring #livingroom #decor #decorating #ideas

The small black side tables were a Target find this past holiday season. It’s my understanding that they are no longer being sold. The lamp is from IKEA. It’s not my favorite, but I just haven’t found one I like better.

More Living Room Decor Ideas for Spring:

Since we’re on the subject of lamps, let’s talk about my wall sconces. Back in the fall, when I had my electrical panel updated, I also had the electrician hide my television cable in the wall and wire in the two sconces.

Living Room Decor Ideas for Spring #spring #livingroom #decor #decorating #ideas

You can find the sconces here. I love how they look and function. I bought them on impulse because they were an excellent price, and I needed something that could be installed immediately. It should be mentioned, however, that they require assembly. It wasn’t difficult, but I realize some folks want to avoid that step.

Living Room Decor Ideas for Spring #spring #livingroom #decor #decorating #ideas

I also adorned the walls of the living room with new artwork.

This amazing vintage wood mold was a HomeGoods score. If you’re lucky and look closely, you might stumble upon a few legit vintage pieces at HomeGoods. Such items are rare and often pricey. However, they are likely to be less expensive than something comparable from a salvage store or flea market. For example, this mold was $39.99.

Living Room Decor Ideas for Spring #spring #livingroom #decor #decorating #ideas

As I’ve done more and more decorating at Bayberry House, I have been rekindling my love for vintage pieces, so this mold was a super exciting find. I think it works so well as wall art.

Across the room, I added a splash of color with this abstract painting. Does it look familiar? It had been hanging in my dining room and was seen in the background of my recent Easter table. I liked the art in that room, but I especially love the bold pop of color it brings to this space.

And while my bar cart isn’t new, I still adore it. You can find it here.

Over on the mantel, things are pretty simple. The long vintage military print is from a local antique shop. I’m not sure the print will live here forever, but I needed a spot for it and thought this worked well. There are also a few hyacinth bulbs in bulb vases. (I found them at Traders Joes but have seen them at Aldi’s and in a few other stores.)

The candleholder is another HomeGoods find. I thought it fit nicely with the rest of my spring mantel decor.

One other notable addition in this space is my terrarium. I posted on how to make it a couple of weeks ago. (Get the tutorial here.)

It was such a fun project I put together with a $14 vase I found at HomeGoods. I’m happy to report that it is thriving!

And that my friends, is my living room decor for spring! While I’m loving how everything looks, I think a few more touches are needed here and there. I’ve kept things simple for now but will likely add to the space as the season progresses.

A delicious Bees Knees Cocktail recipe! #beesknees #cocktail #recipe #summer #spring

This Bee’s Knees cocktail is a classic. The drink originated during Prohibition but is still a fresh and delicious libation for today!

It’s been a hot minute since I’ve shared a cocktail recipe here on Inspired by Charm, so I thought we’d change that today with this Bee’s Knees cocktail!

I’ve been waiting to make this cocktail recipe for a while now, and with sunnier skies and warmer temperatures outside, I finally was inspired to do so.

Bees Knees Cocktail:

In case you haven’t heard of a Bee’s Knees cocktail, it actually dates back to the Prohibition Era. The drink came about when citrus and honey were used to disguise the rather pungent smell and flavor of bathtub gin.

But don’t let its history scare you away. This Bee’s Knees cocktail is … well … the bee’s knees (a.k.a.the best)! And it just might be the new spring go-to at Bayberry House!

A delicious Bees Knees Cocktail recipe! #beesknees #cocktail #recipe #summer #spring

A delicious Bees Knees Cocktail recipe! #beesknees #cocktail #recipe #summer #spring

A modern Bee’s Knees cocktail still contains gin, but don’t let that worry you if you’re not a fan of gin. The other flavors in the drink mask the gin. I used (and recommend) Henrick’s Gin for this recipe, however, you can use any brand you like.

A traditional Bee’s Knees cocktail is just gin, honey, and lemon. Because I wanted something a bit more approachable and “now,” I added pineapple juice and grapefruit juice.

The combination of flavors is so-o-o good.

How do you make a Bees Knees Cocktail?

Well, this recipe is super simple. Just put all of the ingredients in a blender and blend until frothy.

That’s it!

Once the froth settles, pour the drink into glasses over ice and garnish with a grapefruit slice.

I served my Bee’s Knees cocktails in these French wine glasses and added these golden bee drink stirrers for the perfect finishing touch.

Kitchen Remodel Inspiration

My kitchen adventure continues. Today I’m showing you some of the inspirational images that have helped me define a look and style for my new space.

Thank you so much for all of your comments last week regarding this project and the start of demolition. I’m officially entering Week 2 today, and the preliminary work is now underway.

I’ll be sharing a demo update soon, but thought I’d use this post to talk about my inspiration for the space. Before we get to that, however, I did want to let you know that I’ll be creating videos to go along with these posts. I’m sharing the first video today! It’s inserted toward the end of this post.

I will also upload everything to YouTube. You can subscribe to my channel for updates.

Kitchen Remodel Inspiration:

Normally, I shy away from sharing others’ images here on the blog. However, in this instance, they’re essential for explaining the sources of my inspiration for the kitchen. I have limited the number of photos, but I think the ones I chose will give you a good idea of the overall design. I will mostly be directing you to images on Instagram since those are easiest to source. If you like any of the images I share, I encourage you to click the source and check out more of the creator’s work.

If you’re looking for more images that inspired me, visit my Pinterest page and take a look at these three boards: kitchen, pantry, and powder room.

Kitchen:

Where to begin? Let me start by saying that I found a lot of inspiration via deVOL Kitchens and Humphrey Munson. I definitely recommend checking out their beautiful kitchen spaces.

I’ll get into more detail about the new layout of the kitchen next week. However, it’s worth noting now that my kitchen isn’t huge, and there are five door openings. This isn’t a bad thing, but it’s definitely a design consideration.

The plan is to install custom cabinets, which will be painted. I also will conceal the refrigerator and dishwasher behind cabinets. I’m looking at white quartz for countertops. The entire first floor, including the kitchen, will have hardwood floors. The floors in the other rooms will be refinished to match the kitchen.

I do not have space for an island. Initially, I was bummed about this because an island is often the hub in a kitchen. However, I’m convinced my new kitchen will have so many other wonderful features that an island won’t be missed.

The design for my kitchen does include a large peninsula/work table providing ample counter space. I was so excited when I stumbled upon this image for the work table inspiration:

Kitchen Remodel Inspiration House Beautiful

Mine will be similar but shorter. There will be room for two stools underneath. (That image just served as table inspiration, so please ignore the rest of it.)

Are you getting a feel for my new space?

In general, I’m sticking to the Modern Country Colonial aesthetic I wrote about when I first discussed the design plan for Bayberry House.

I also plan to incorporate fun touches when it comes to light fixtures, accessories, and decor. There are so many exciting layers in this project. While at times I’ve felt a bit overwhelmed by all of the choices, it’s been a delight to explore possibilities!

Pantry:

As I mentioned, my kitchen isn’t large, so I’m turning to some underused areas nearby to create additional storage, functionality, and style. This reconfiguration will allow me to have a small pantry. The pantry will also serve as a beverage station with a built-in coffee machine and a wine/beverage cooler. I am so looking forward to having a dedicated space for this!

Although the color is still TBD, I’m considering a subtle color for the cabinets and possibly a fun wallpaper moment.

Powder Room:

Part of this kitchen remodel involves changing the powder room. That space has been gutted and will be built back up.

Even though it’s not a huge space, and the walls won’t be tiled (maybe down the road), I want to infuse style in there. This image suggests the overall aesthetic. I would also like to have a similar vanity situation.

And that’s it!

I’m not sure if all of this is helpful, but I do hope it gives you a general feel for what I have in mind. Again, you can visit my Modern Colonial Pinterest board for a look at all my behind-the-scenes planning for every space in Bayberry House.

Kitchen Remodel Demo Video:

Now, before you click away: As I mentioned above, I wanted to try something new this week and share a video along with my post. I’m not sure I’ll be able to do this every week, but I thought some videos might provide a different look at the project.

This is the first video I’ve done in which I’m talking to the camera. I appreciate your patience while I learn the ropes of filming and video editing. The video is not terrible, but there’s always room for growth.

The videos will be in my various update posts on the kitchen remodel project and on my YouTube channel. If you use YouTube regularly, I recommend subscribing there on my channel. I will probably upload videos there first, so you’ll get a sneak peek. After subscribing, you can also hit the “bell” notification button if you’d like to be notified when I upload new content.

I hope you have enjoyed looking at some of the inspiration images for my kitchen. It’s a pleasure to tell you about my ideas for the space.

In my next Kitchen Remodel update, I’ll be sharing more details on how the new kitchen will look and be laid out. Stay tuned for that!

My kitchen adventure continues. Today I’m showing you some of the inspirational images that have helped me define a look and style for my new space. Creative and Colorful Easter Decorations for Your Dining Room #easter #decor #decorations #spring #entertaining #diningroom #tablescape

Add a little color and whimsy to your Easter decorations with these creative and eclectic options for the dining room.

For the past few years, I’ve been sharing Easter decorating and entertaining ideas here on Inspired by Charm. (If you missed them, you can check out the 2018 Easter decorations from my apartment here and the 2017 Easter decorations at my previous house here.)

Even though I typically don’t host Easter celebrations, I like decorating for the holiday. After a dark and dreary winter, it’s an excuse to bring out something fun and colorful. And that’s exactly what I did for this year’s Easter tablescape.

In getting ready for spring, I’ve also teamed up again with my Seasons of Home blogger friends! Today we are sharing our Easter creations. I’ve linked up all of them at the end of this post so be sure to check them out!

Colorful Easter Decorations:

To get started, here’s a look at how I set my dining room for Easter.

The inspiration for this particular table came from a set of flatware I found at HomeGoods. This iridescent finish has recently become popular. And while it certainly isn’t a traditional finish or style for Easter, I thought it was a fun twist for the holiday.

Creative and Colorful Easter Decorations for Your Dining Room #easter #decor #decorations #spring #entertaining #diningroom #tablescape

Creative and Colorful Easter Decorations for Your Dining Room #easter #decor #decorations #spring #entertaining #diningroom #tablescape

If you’re looking for a set, I spotted some here and here.

Speaking of fun, I also was inspired by this cute collection of teacups and saucers. I decided to pick up six sets in different patterns. When I was choosing my designs, I did try to coordinate with the colors in the flatware. I thought traditional teacups with the modern, trendy flatware would be an interesting juxtaposition.

Creative and Colorful Easter Decorations for Your Dining Room #easter #decor #decorations #spring #entertaining #diningroom #tablescape

Creative and Colorful Easter Decorations for Your Dining Room #easter #decor #decorations #spring #entertaining #diningroom #tablescape

You can find teacups in lots of places. If you’re on a budget, I recommend checking out thrift shops or antique stores. I saw teacups at a local shop for $4-5 each. HomeGoods, which is where I purchased mine, has a great selection.

With those two bold details in place, I set the rest of the table with mostly neutrals, including white plates, small bowls, and clear glassware.

However, for a little more color, I added a speckled napkin. Again, I selected something that picked up some of the colors (pink, blue, and yellow) in the flatware.

The napkins are actually a tablecloth I cut into squares. A simple hem around all four sides made quick and custom napkins.

Since it’s Easter, a few chocolate eggs were a must. I simply filled a small bowl with purple Easter grass and tucked in a trio of colorful foil-wrapped eggs.

For the centerpiece, I opted for fresh flowers. These tulips and roses fit my color scheme perfectly. Although I did have to go to two different grocery stores, I was lucky enough to find these at a good price.

I think the saturated and bold colors work wonderfully together. They also happen to go well with this modern art piece that I’ve hung above the sideboard.

Creative and Colorful Easter Decorations for Your Dining Room #easter #decor #decorations #spring #entertaining #diningroom #tablescape

I actually purchased the artwork for my family room (which I’ll be sharing with you next week), but I couldn’t resist hanging it up in my dining room to complement my Easter decorations. It was pure serendipity how it all came together.

You might have noticed the other little surprise on my sideboard. It’s my Easter Bunny Rice Krispies Treat.

Creative and Colorful Easter Decorations for Your Dining Room #easter #decor #decorations #spring #entertaining #diningroom #tablescape

Creative and Colorful Easter Decorations for Your Dining Room #easter #decor #decorations #spring #entertaining #diningroom #tablescape

I shared the recipe with you last week. (You can find it here in case you missed it.) Now you can see why I chose to dye it purple. It fits in wonderfully, doesn’t it?

It had been a while since I’d eaten a Rice Krispies Treat, and I had forgotten how yummy it is. In fact, it was so good, I had to get it out of the house before I ate any more of it. I had intended to save the bunny to use in another photo shoot, but oh well….

Creative and Colorful Easter Decorations for Your Dining Room #easter #decor #decorations #spring #entertaining #diningroom #tablescape

And with that, my Easter table was set.

I realize these bold colors and creative combinations aren’t for everyone, but it was great fun trying something new for my Easter decorations this year. It never ceases to amaze me how one piece (in this case, colorful flatware) can inspire an entire room.

Pink Lemonade Thumbprint Cookies #spring #easter #cookie #thumbprint #recipe #lemonade

The Monday after we spring forward to daylight saving time always seems a bit challenging for me. To make this time change a bit sweeter, I thought we’d kick off this week with Pink Lemonade Thumbprint Cookies.

Pink Lemonade Thumbprint Cookies:

Pink Lemonade Thumbprint Cookies #spring #easter #cookie #thumbprint #recipe #lemonade

As I posted this past Friday, my kitchen renovation has officially begun. This means a work crew will be knocking on my door at 7:30 a.m. for the foreseeable future. I’m typically an early riser, but waking up at 6 today still felt like waking up at 5. Even though DST requires a bit of an adjustment at first, I know I will appreciate the extra daylight in the evening after the workers leave for the day.

Last week before things got all torn up and dusty due to demolition, I whipped up these Pink Lemonade Thumbprint Cookies. I don’t know about you, but I especially enjoy lemon-based desserts in the spring (and summer). This sort of treat always tastes bright and refreshing, and this cookie recipe is no exception.

Pink Lemonade Thumbprint Cookies #spring #easter #cookie #thumbprint #recipe #lemonade

These Pink Lemonade Cookies are soft and the glaze filling is both tart and sweet. Pair them with a cup of hot tea, and your taste buds will thank you.

These cookies are also fairly easy to make.

Pink Lemonade Thumbprint Cookies #spring #easter #cookie #thumbprint #recipe #lemonade

How to Make Pink Lemonade Thumbprint Cookies:

The dough is similar to a shortbread. As you’ll see in the recipe below, the dough needs a little time in the freezer. You might be tempted to skip this step, but don’t Freezing helps the cookies keep their shape, and this is important since you’ll be making a small indent to hold the glaze.

What is a Thumbprint Cookie?

I am fond of thumbprint-style cookies. Yes, that name is sort of self-explanatory. Typically, you use your thumb to indent the top of the cookie. That little indent then gets filled with something delicious. In this case, it’s a lemon glaze, but I’ve also used jelly, salted caramel, and even Nutella!

Pink Lemonade Thumbprint Cookies #spring #easter #cookie #thumbprint #recipe #lemonade

However, I usually don’t use a thumb (or recommend it) to make the indent. There’s something about touching a 325-degree cookie that doesn’t seem safe. Instead, I like to use a rounded teaspoon. It creates a nice circle. The end of a rounded wooden spoon handle also works.

Once the indented cookies are cool, they are filled with a simple glaze made from confectioners’ sugar, lemon juice, and a couple of raspberries for color. I used a piping bag to carefully add the filling, but you could also spoon in the filling.

And voila! Your Pink Lemonade Thumbprint Cookies are perfect for spring entertaining.

However you decide to serve them, I think you’ll enjoy these tangy and sweet cookies.

Ingredients

Glaze:

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 325 degrees F.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, 1/2 cup confectioners' sugar, and kosher salt.
  • In a large bowl, beat together the butter, 1/4 cup confectioners' sugar, lemon zest, and lemon juice. Beat until light and fully combined, about 4-5 minutes. Beat in the flour mixture on low speed until just combined.
  • Next, roll the dough into 1-inch balls. Place the dough balls in the freezer for 12-15 minutes. Transfer, dough balls to a parchment paper- or silicone-lined baking sheet, making sure the dough balls are about 2 inches apart.
  • Bake for 10 minutes. Then, gently press the rounded part of a teaspoon or end of a wooden spoon handle into the center of each ball to create an indent. Continue to bake for 16-18 more minutes or until the cookies just start to brown on the bottom. Place the cookie sheets on a wire rack to cool.
  • While the cookies cool, make the glaze by whisking together the confectioners' sugar, lemon juice, and raspberries. (You can break up the raspberries with a fork to evenly distribute them in the glaze.)
  • Dust the cookies with confectioners' sugar. Then spoon or pipe the glaze into the indents. Let the cookies set for at least 10 minutes.

Kitchen Remodel: The Before #renovation #kitchen #remodel #before #bayberrykitchen

Well, friends. It’s official: Operation Kitchen Renovation has begun!

I’ve been talking about the remodel for several months now, and finally, all the pieces have aligned. We are starting my kitchen renovation! (It feels so good to type that!)

Over the next several months I’ll be walking you through the process. I plan to share updates every week or every other week, depending on how things are progressing. If you want a closer, real-time look at how things are coming along, be sure to follow me on Instagram at @inspiredbycharm. I’ll also be using the hashtag #bayberrykitchen

Surprisingly, after 10 years of blogging, this is my first major home renovation. As you can probably imagine, this is a thrilling (albeit nerve-racking) time for me. I’m bursting with excitement to take you along on this adventure!

To kick things off, I thought we’d start at the beginning.

Kitchen Remodel: The Before

Here is my kitchen as it is now.

After using this space for the past 8 months, I can say that it’s not terrible, except for the lack of a range. However, it just doesn’t work for what I do and how I want it to function. (When I purchased this home, my plan was to tackle the kitchen right away. That’s why I don’t have a range.)

I will give you the full plans for the kitchen in the coming weeks, but I will tell you now that this remodel is a full gut job. That means new cabinets, floors, countertops, appliances, windows, doors, and lighting. The works!

Kitchen Remodel: The Before #renovation #kitchen #remodel #before #bayberrykitchen

Kitchen Remodel: The Before #renovation #kitchen #remodel #before #bayberrykitchen

Although I shared the kitchen in my “New Home Tour,” here’s another look around. (Official layouts of my space are coming.)

The kitchen is in the middle of the back of my house. When you’re facing the back wall of the house/kitchen, the family room (with its big brick fireplace) and a bathroom are on the left. On the right is the dining room.

Kitchen Remodel: The Before #renovation #kitchen #remodel #before #bayberrykitchen

The kitchen also has a door to the deck and a door to the basement.

Because the kitchen is the heart of my home, this reno will affect most of the first floor. I could have broken this job into smaller projects, but it just made sense on many levels to tackle it all at once. Here’s what will be done in the other first floor spaces:

Powder Room:
Remove shower stall to create more kitchen storage.

Entryway:
Address crumbling and damaged slate floors. Remove built-in closet.

Living Room and Family Room:
Refinish hardwood floors.

Dining Room:
Refinish hardwood floors and add more natural light.

For this major remodel, I have hired a designer and a contractor to help me through the entire process. I wish I had the knowledge and ability to do all of this myself, but I don’t. I will talk more about why I made this decision in future posts. I will say, so far, it has been an excellent decision on both fronts.

Of course, there is much more to come, but I think that’s where I’ll leave off for today.

Next week I’d like to share some of the design ideas, inspiration, and images I collected to help me decide on a look and style for my new kitchen. See you then!

Kitchen Remodel Demo Video:

Also, I wanted to try something new this week and share a video along with my post.

I hope you enjoyed the video!

Well, friends. It’s official: Operation Kitchen Renovation has begun! I’ve been talking about the remodel for several months now, and finally, all the pieces have aligned. We are starting my kitchen renovation! (It feels so good to type that!) Over the next several months I’ll be walking you through the process. I plan to share […]

Bunny Rice Krispies Treat for Spring and Easter #dessert #recipe #spring #ricekrispies #easter #bunny

This oversized Bunny Rice Krispies Treat is a unique take on the classic. It’s a tasty and colorful dessert that you can quickly make for spring and Easter.

Yes, my friends, we’re going old school on the blog today with a traditional dessert loved by many: Rice Krispies Treats.

However, in true IBC fashion, I’m giving the usual recipe a bit of a twist by dying it purple and molding it in a bunny shape to create a memorable Bunny Rice Krispies Treat. (I know you’re going to thank me for this cute idea, so you’re welcome in advance. Ha Ha!)

Bunny Rice Krispies Treat for Spring and Easter #dessert #recipe #spring #ricekrispies #easter #bunny

Bunny Rice Krispies Treat:

As you know, I love me a beautifully molded cake. Through the years, here on IBC, there have been a variety of them, including a skull, beehive, gingerbread house, and, of course, the classic bundt.

A couple of weeks ago I spotted this bunny mold at HomeGoods and immediately thought about how I might use it for spring. (If you can’t find the mold at your local HomeGoods, you can pick one up on Amazon.) Instead of going with cake this time around, however, I decided to make one big Rice Krispies Treat.

I gravitated toward this idea because it’s insanely easy, and who doesn’t love a homemade Rice Krispies Treat?

How do you Make a Bunny Rice Krispies Treat?

As I mentioned, it’s super simple. Start by thoroughly greasing each half of the bunny mold. Baking spray worked perfectly for me.

Next, whip up a big batch of the Rice Krispies mixture. I find it easiest to melt the marshmallows and butter in the microwave, but if you prefer the stove top method, that’s fine, too.

Bunny Rice Krispies Treat for Spring and Easter #dessert #recipe #spring #ricekrispies #easter #bunny

Once the marshmallows and butter were melted, I added purple food coloring. (This set of gel food color is my favorite.) Of course, you could use your favorite color instead or not use any food coloring at all. The choice is yours.

Finally, mix in the Rice Krispies. You’ll want to move quickly here to get everything mixed thoroughly before it starts to set.

Bunny Rice Krispies Treat for Spring and Easter #dessert #recipe #spring #ricekrispies #easter #bunny

Now firmly press the mixture into each half of the mold. I recommend leaving an extra 1/2 inch of the mixture extending above the top of the mold half. This will give your bunny a plump figure when the halves are pressed together.

Bunny Rice Krispies Treat for Spring and Easter #dessert #recipe #spring #ricekrispies #easter #bunny

Finally, push both halves of the mold together. Let the mixture cool completely before removing the mold. Once the bunny has been unmolded, you can gently smooth any rough spots and remove any excess Rice Krispies mixture.

And that’s it! Your Bunny Rice Krispies Treat is complete.

You are welcome to dress up the bunny with frosting or candy decorations, but I prefer it unadorned. A few chocolate eggs scattered around the plate is all that’s needed to up the fun factor if you’re serving it at Easter.

No matter when or how you serve it, this molded bunny makes a delightful and delicious treat for spring!

Also, if you’d like to see more of this colorful table, I’ve shared all the details here including where you can find that unique flatware!

Strawberry Ice Cream Cheesecake:

Cold weather blew into Pittsburgh this week, so posting about an ice cream dessert might seem a bit silly. However, I like to think ahead and plan for warmer days to come. If you do, too, you’ll definitely want to add this Strawberry Ice Cream Cheesecake to your spring and summer menus.

This Strawberry Ice Cream Cheesecake is a delicious summer dessert recipe. #summer #strawberry #cake #cheesecake #icecream #recipe #dessert

I was excited to make this recipe because I love ice cream-based desserts. They remind me of the past and fun times with family. This connection is probably because of the ice cream salad (which actually isn’t a salad) that my great aunt made. The mere mention of ice cream desserts always makes me think of it. (Note to self: Make that recipe and share it on IBC!)

Anywho, even though summer is still months away, I thought this picture-perfect Strawberry Ice Cream Cheesecake might be a unique treat to whip up for Easter, a bridal/baby shower, Mother’s Day, or another springtime celebration. (I plan to celebrate the first day of spring this year. I hope you do, too!)

How Do You Make Strawberry Ice Cream Cheesecake?

It’s pretty easy.

I started with a pretzel crust because I love the taste, and it pairs nicely with strawberries. (That reminds me of my Strawberry Jello Salad! Have you tried it?)

This Strawberry Ice Cream Cheesecake is a delicious summer dessert recipe. #summer #strawberry #cake #cheesecake #icecream #recipe #dessert

Once the crust is made, it’s time to prepare the cheesecake filling.

The filling consists of cream cheese, ice cream, and strawberry puree. You’ll make the puree first. You can use fresh or frozen strawberries, depending on what’s available. If you’re not a fan of strawberries, use blueberries, blackberries, peaches, or another fruit that you like. I prefer strawberries because they are delicious and give this cheesecake a beautiful pink hue.

The base of the cheesecake filling is the cream cheese and ice cream. The ice cream should be close to room temperature so it’s soft and almost runny. If it’s too cold, it will chill your cream cheese and prevent proper blending.

Mix the cream cheese, ice cream, and puree together until smooth. Then add the mixture to your prepared pretzel crust. After a few hours in the freezer, your Strawberry Ice Cream Cheesecake will be ready! I recommended removing it from the freezer about 30 minutes before serving.

What will it be - cheesecake or ice cream? You can have both with this Strawberry Ice Cream Cheesecake! Rich and creamy, this delicious dessert recipe is perfect for the warmer days ahead.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups fresh or frozen (thawed) strawberries
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 18 ounces cream cheese - softened
  • 1.5- quart vanilla ice cream - softened
  • Additional berries plus whipped cream for garnish
Pretzel Crust:
  • 2 cups small pretzels
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1/4 cups unsalted butter - melted

Instructions

  • Begin by lining the bottom of an 8-inch springform pan with parchment paper. Set aside.
  • Place the pretzels in a food processor. Pulse until they resemble sand. (Alternatively, you can place the pretzels in a plastic sealable plastic bag and smash them repeatedly with a rolling pin.)
  • Add the finely crushed pretzels, brown sugar, and melted butter to a bowl. Stir to combine. Spoon this mixture into the prepared springform pan and press the mixture down with your fingers to form an even layer of crust. Freeze for 30 minutes.
  • Place the strawberries in a small saucepan over medium heat. Cook for 3-5 minutes or until the berries start to break down. You can speed up the process by crushing the berries with the back of a spoon. Remove the cooked strawberries from heat and strain them through a fine sieve into a bowl. Use a spatula or a spoon to push through as much of the liquid as possible. Discard the leftover pulp from the sieve. Set aside the strawberry liquid to cool.
  • Beat the cream cheese and sugar in a large bowl until well-blended. Add the ice cream and mix well. Fold in the strawberry puree.
  • Pour this mixture over the prepared crust and freeze the cheesecake for 4 hours or until firm.
  • Remove the cheesecake from the freezer about 30 minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh berries and whipped cream.

Learn how to make a terrarium! #terrarium #plants #diy #garden

Creating a terrarium is a fun way to add a touch of greenery to your indoor living space. Today I’m showing you how I put together a simple terrarium for my home.

A couple of weeks ago I was at HomeGoods and came across this large glass jar that I thought would make an excellent terrarium. I assumed it would be $30+, but to my surprise. it was only $14.99 so, of course, into my cart it went.

DIY Terrarium:

After sourcing other materials and plants and spending a little time planting, this is how my terrarium turned out:

Learn how to make a terrarium! #terrarium #plants #diy #garden

Learn how to make a terrarium! #terrarium #plants #diy #garden

Isn’t it pretty?

With thoughts of spring and all-things-green, this little terrarium is just what I need to get me through these last few weeks of winter.

Let me show you how I put it together!

What do you need to make a terrarium?

Surprisingly, you don’t much to put together a beautiful terrarium. Here’s the breakdown:

Learn how to make a terrarium! #terrarium #plants #diy #garden

How do you make a terrarium?

It all starts with a glass container. The container can have a lid, but that’s not a must.

Just an F.Y.I.: If you do find or choose a lidded container, once your mini-garden is planted and placed in the proper location, very little attention will be needed since it will water itself.

I actually had one of these last year (See image below.), and it did well on its own. In fact, because of my lack of attention, one of the plants in it sort of took over. The terrarium still looked great, but I decided to empty it when I moved because I wanted to start afresh in my new home.

How to make a #terrarium in a jar! DIY Modern Flower Arrangements for Spring

A disadvantage with a lidded container is that the inside will often fill with condensation, making it harder to see your plants.

For my new terrarium, obviously, I went with the glass container I scored at HomeGoods. Since it doesn’t have a lid, I’ll have to be vigilant about watering. However, if I want the terrarium to be self-sufficient, I can always place a dish or plate on top of the jar occasionally.

Learn how to make a terrarium! #terrarium #plants #diy #garden

Once you’ve selected your container, you’ll want to add a layer of pebbles for drainage. (I found mine here.)That means the pebbles should be pretty small in diameter.

Next, comes a layer of horticultural charcoal. About 1/2 inch will do. The charcoal pulls toxins and bacteria from the soil in the terrarium and helps keep the environment in the container fresh and mold free.

Learn how to make a terrarium! #terrarium #plants #diy #garden

Now you’re ready for put in the soil. I used Miracle-Gro potting mix I had on hand. I found that 3 inches of soil was the right amount in the glass container I bought.

Learn how to make a terrarium! #terrarium #plants #diy #garden

At this point, it’s time for plants!

What plants are good for a terrarium?

Since my knowledge of plants is limited, I went to my local plant shop – City Grows in Pittsburgh – and asked them for advice.

Their helpful staff helped me choose plants that would work for my particular terrarium based on its size and the light in my home.

Learn how to make a terrarium! #terrarium #plants #diy #garden

Over the years I’ve found that it’s smart to consult experts when investing in house plants. They know the lighting needs, watering requirements, etc. of any plant you’re considering.

The plants I selected were ones that work well in terrariums. I don’t recall the names of the plants, but if you are interested in the specifics, I could contact the plant shop I visited. Please let me know in the comments, and I will update this post.

In doing research for this post, I discovered this Etsy shop which sells a set of 6 mini plants designed for terrariums. If you don’t have a local plant shop, this might be another option.

You can also create terrariums with cactuses and succulents, but they will require a drier setting. If you’re a long-time IBC follower, you might remember my tabletop cactus garden. It thrived for years with hardly any attention or water. Sadly, I had to get rid of it when I sold my former house last year, but it was still thriving at the time.

Anywho, back to this new terrarium. With the soil in place, I tucked in my plants to fill the space.

Learn how to make a terrarium! #terrarium #plants #diy #garden

Learn how to make a terrarium! #terrarium #plants #diy #garden

To finish things off, I added larger stones and reindeer moss. These elements are optional and mostly serve as decor. However, depending on how the rocks are placed, they can encourage your plants to grow (or not grow) in certain spots.

Learn how to make a terrarium! #terrarium #plants #diy #garden

And with that, my new terrarium is complete.

The plant store staff told me that to keep the container moist I should add enough water to reach about halfway up the pebbles at the bottom of the container.

Misting the plants with a sprayer from time to time is likewise recommended.

Learn how to make a terrarium! #terrarium #plants #diy #garden

So cute, right? All inspired by a $15 glass jar. I’m loving it!

I haven’t figured out exactly where this DIY terrarium is going to live, but I’m thinking my family room might be an ideal location.

I hope this post inspires you to add a little green to your home. Happy plant parenting!

Earlier this week I made a colorful pasta salad with sun-dried tomatoes. Because I purchased more sun-dried tomatoes than that recipe called for, I thought about a way to use the extras The result: Sun-Dried Tomato Basil Roll-Ups.

Sun-Dried Tomato Basil Roll-Ups:

I don’t know how it is for you, but roll-ups (a.k.a. pinwheels) are one of my go-to appetizers. I love them because they are easy to make and serve. You can also get creative with the filling, and everyone seems to love the flavorful bites.

These Sun-Dried Tomato Basil Roll-Ups are no exception. The basil and sun-dried tomatoes pair perfectly with the spinach, cream cheese, and parmesan cheese.

How do you make roll-ups?

To make any roll-up, simply spread your filling on a tortilla, being careful not to tear the tortilla. Then roll it up and slice it. For these roll-ups, I made a filling that combines cream cheese, parmesan cheese, sun-dried tomatoes, spinach, garlic, and fresh basil leaves.

As I mention in the recipe below, these roll-ups are delicious as they are. However, if you want to add a dipping sauce, I think homemade ranch dressing would be just the thing.

This recipe for Overnight Oats makes a quick and easy breakfast that can be easily customized with your favorite ingredients! It’s my new go-t0 morning meal.

Overnight Oats for Two | inspiredbycharm.com for HomeGoods

Overnight Oats:

Lately I’ve been a bit obsessed with overnight oats. For the past couple months they’ve been my go-to for breakfast. And while they may have gained a lot of popularity in the last year or so, they’ve been around forever.

Overnight Oats | inspiredbycharm.com

I was introduced to overnight oats about 10 years ago when I worked for the Four Seasons Hotel. Back then (and until recently), I knew overnight oats as muesli, which is short for Birchermuesli. The recipe was developed around the start of the last century by Maximilian Bircher-Benner for patients in his hospital. His original version included shredded apple which he believed to be a cure for jaundice.

Another history lesson on IBC. You’re welcome!

Overnight Oats for Two | inspiredbycharm.com

How To Make Overnight Oats:

I’m sure you’ve seen lots or recipes for overnight oats posted online, and you may have noticed that the concept for creating them is pretty similar. The base is quick oats and milk (regular, skim, soy, almond, etc.).

From there, you add whatever healthful things you like, including fruits, nuts, chia seeds, honey, etc. As you can imagine, the list is almost endless. The oats, milk, and fruit are combined before you go to bed. That way by morning the oats have had time to soak up the milk, and breakfast is ready to go.

Speaking of ingredients, the recipe I’m giving you is a great jumping off point for creating your own version. As with oatmeal, you can customize these oats based on your food preferences or what’s in your pantry and refrigerator.

What Oats Do You Use for Overnight Oats?

Honestly, you can use whatever you’d like: quick oats, rolled oats, muesli, steel cut oats, etc.

Here I used steel cut, but also like quick oats too.

Overnight Oats for Two | inspiredbycharm.com

Some other ingredients to consider: any kind of fruit or berries, seeds, any variety of nut, cocoa powder, protein powder, nut butter, and citrus zest. There are so many things your could add to these overnight oats.

You can also use whatever type of milk (regular milk, almond milk, or soy milk) and sweetener (honey, sugar, agave, or maple syrup) you like best.

I like topping my overnight oats with Greek yogurt, nuts, and a few more berries. The yogurt adds a little tang, the nuts provide crunch, and the additional berries are Instagram-worthy.

All That Jazz Playlist - Tuesday Tunes #music #jazz #playlist #songs

Whether you’re doing housework or entertaining guests, this All That Jazz Playlist is the perfect backdrop for a productive day or a delightful evening.

All That Jazz Playlist - Tuesday Tunes #music #jazz #playlist #songs

This past weekend I watched Can You Ever Forgive Me? starring Melissa McCarthy. If you’re not familiar with the movie, you can see the trailer here. I’m a huge fan of Melissa McCarthy so I hoped I’d like the film, and I did. It was wonderful! In fact, it ranks among my favorite Melissa McCarthy movies, even though her role in it is quite different from her usual (comedic) ones.

As I watched the film, I reveled in the music, which included I Thought of You Last Night by Jeri Southern and I’ll be Seeing You by Billie Holiday. Inspired by those two tracks, I decided to put together my own All That Jazz Playlist.

Those of you who have listened to my Tuesday Tunes playlists over the years know that music has always been a big part of my life. No matter where I am or what I’m doing – hanging out at home, driving, or working out – I like to have music playing. However, it’s been a while since I’ve shared a playlist. Who knew I would find my latest inspiration in the past?

Although this particular playlist isn’t overly robust (There are only 12 songs.), I hope to add to it as I discover new favorites. I’m trying to avoid commonplace jazz songs, but if you have any recommendations that would fit this playlist, please let me know in the comments below.

All That Jazz Playlist - Tuesday Tunes #music #jazz #playlist #songs

If you’d like to give this All That Jazz Playlist a listen, you can use the player below or find the playlist here on Spotify.

If you enjoy my playlists, you can follow along with my Spotify account here. You can find all of my Tuesday Tunes playlists here.

Sidenote: I’ve been meaning to mention this, but I use Spotify almost exclusively to listen to music. I pay for their premium option to avoid ads. If you’re a big music fan, I highly recommend it. (This isn’t a sponsored post nor was I paid to say that. Spotify is just an audio streaming service I genuinely love, and I thought that was worth sharing with all of you.)

One of the features I love about Spotify is that once you start to create a playlist, it will give you “recommended songs” based on the playlist you’ve begun. I’ve discovered so many new artists and now-favorite songs that way. There’s also a free version of the service if you’d like to test it out first.

And that’s a wrap, friends and fellow music lovers! Give this playlist a listen and let me know what you think. And don’t forget to check out Can You Ever Forgive Me?. I think you’ll enjoy it!

Sun-Dried Tomato Pasta Salad

Does anyone else love a good pasta salad recipe as much as I do? I could eat a variant of pasta every day and be a happy man. Now, if only someone would invent a calorie-free version that tastes as delicious as the real thing.

Even though I’m a major fan of a classic pasta salad recipe (You can find my go-to recipe here.), I also enjoy developing creative flavor twists. This Sun-Dried Tomato Pasta Salad is my latest.

Delicious Sun-Dried Tomato Pasta Salad Recipe #pastasalad #sundried #tomatoes #pasta #recipe #side

What’s in Sun-Dried Tomato Pasta Salad?

Of course, one of the yummy things in this pasta salad recipe is sun-dried tomatoes. It’s likely that l would love any recipe that contains sun-dried tomatoes. They are bite-size bundles of rich flavor that explode in your mouth.

Delicious Sun-Dried Tomato Pasta Salad Recipe #pastasalad #sundried #tomatoes #pasta #recipe #side This Sun-Dried Tomato Pasta Salad also contains:

  • artichoke hearts
  • feta cheese
  • cherry tomatoes
  • arugula
  • garbanzo beans (chickpeas)
  • fresh basil

Although this combination makes an incredibly tasty pasta salad, you don’t need to follow this recipe ingredient by ingredient. Feel free to mix things up and include what you love. Don’t like feta? Try goat cheese. Not a fan of garbanzo beans? Use diced chicken instead.

Delicious Sun-Dried Tomato Pasta Salad Recipe #pastasalad #sundried #tomatoes #pasta #recipe #side

Because this Sun-Dried Tomato Pasta Salad is loaded with so much flavor, the dressing is super simple. Just mix together olive oil, lemon juice, salt, pepper, and a touch of sugar. (The sugar is optional. However, I think that bit of sweetness nicely counters the tartness of the lemon juice.)

Once you have all of your ingredients selected and chopped, toss them with the dressing, and your salad is good to go.

While it will still be delicious and fresh the next day, I recommend making this recipe a couple hours before serving. This will ensure that the arugula remains crisp.

And that, my friends, is my take on a Sun-Dried Tomato Pasta Salad. Again, if you’re looking for more out-of-this-world-delicious pasta salads, you can find all of my recipes here.

My New Living Room Sofa - Carlisle Upholstered Sofa #livingroom #sofa

Yesterday I intended to tell you all about my new living room sofa, but instead, I got caught up chatting about the recent photo shoot and my life as of late. No worries, however. I’m back today to share the sofa details.

As you might know, decorating for Christmas is one of my favorite things. In my mind, you also need a cozy place where you can sit and gaze at your beautifully decorated Christmas tree. So back in October, as I was planning my holiday decor, I realized I needed a couple of pieces of furniture to fill out the living spaces in my new home.

Choosing a Living Room Sofa:

I had a plan for the furniture in my family room (You can see the details here.) but had yet to figure out what to do in my living room. After looking through photos online, I was inspired to try something new and was drawn to an English roll arm sofa. I especially love the arms and legs of this style of sofa and thought it would work well with my overall design aesthetic for Bayberry House.

I began searching for options. I found sofas I liked at Restoration Hardware, Interior Define, Basset Furniture, and Pottery Barn. After considering material, timing, size, and price, I ultimately decided on the Carlisle Upholstered Grand Sofa from Pottery Barn. It checked off all the boxes for me. Plus, I happen to live near a Pottery Barn store so I could view fabric samples in person to ensure I was getting the right color.

My New Living Room Sofa - Carlisle Upholstered Sofa #livingroom #sofa

Carlisle Upholstered Sofa:

After looking at the fabric samples, I chose the Basketweave Slub Ash. I had had a gray color in mind, and this seemed to best suit my space. Based on where I wanted to place the sofa, I went with the Grand Sofa 91″. I also upgraded to the down blend wrapped cushions, but I was able to buy the sofa for 20% off during a Friends and Family Event.

With my selections made, I placed the order and waited for delivery. About 6 weeks later, my new living room sofa arrived!

My New Living Room Sofa - Carlisle Upholstered Sofa #livingroom #sofa

Overall, I’m extremely pleased with my selection. The sofa is incredibly comfortable. The color works well with my freshly painted walls, and the fabric helps to disguise cat hair, which is always a plus. I haven’t had any spills yet, but the material feels durable, and I was told it’s easy to spot clean.

The only thing I’d change about the sofa is the height of the back. It seems a tad high to my eye. This could be because I don’t have incredibly high ceilings, or maybe I’m accustomed to the horizontal lines of a lot of contemporary furniture.

My New Living Room Sofa - Carlisle Upholstered Sofa #livingroom #sofa

My New Living Room Sofa - Carlisle Upholstered Sofa #livingroom #sofa

My perception of the sofa height might also be due to the location. When you enter the house and look into the living room, you’re greeted by the back of a sofa. However, I’m hoping to improve this view in the near future by adding a narrow table to the back of the sofa. I’m currently on the hunt for the perfect sofa table!

And there you have it, my dear friends – my new living room sofa in all its glory! I know some of you have been wanting the details, so I’m glad to finally be able to share them with you.

Just in case you’re curious about my green velvet chairs: those came from Anthropologie. You can find them here. They are currently around 40% off.

What's the Tea: Back in Business

My friends, I feel like a new man today, and it’s wonderful!

In case you missed the news, last week I had a magazine shoot at Bayberry House. This was super exciting and super humbling at the same time given that I’ve only been in my house for 7 months. Though it’s completely worth it, a photo shoot at your home is a bit nerve-racking and can be a lot of work. However, the kicker for me was that I had to leave up all of my Christmas decorations for a couple months.

Yes, on February 8, my house was still fully decorated for Christmas. Two Christmas trees and all. When the shoot wrapped up on Friday around 5 p.m., I immediately started taking down the decorations, packing things away, dusting, cleaning, etc.

Two days later, around 3 p.m. on Sunday, I was finally finished. It felt (and still feels) incredible. As much as I love decorating for Christmas, I equally enjoy putting everything away and starting afresh. In fact, it kind of feels like 2019 just began today (even though we are already a month and a half into the year.)

What's the Tea: Back in Business

Right now I’m feeling incredibly grateful for the photo shoot, excited to have my home clean and cleared, and ready to hit the ground running. In fact, I sat down to write a post about my new living room sofa. After I started typing, I realized I should probably catch you up on life and a few other things first.

As usual, January was a slow month here on IBC. Thanks for sticking with me. I had the best of intentions to continue trucking along with as much gusto as I had in December, but ultimately, I decided that a slow month was needed. Having a couple sick kitties, a touch of the flu, and this big photo shoot, a little more down time seemed to make sense.

What's the Tea: Back in Business

I think that the rest of this year is going to be quite eventful, so maybe a slow start was in the cards all along. As I shared a few weeks ago, I have big plans for changes and updates here at Bayberry House. In fact, I have a meeting with my contractor today to finalize a few details of the kitchen remodel. Fingers crossed, the demo will begin soon. In between now and then, however, I’ll be sharing some before photos of the kitchen and my plans for the space. Stay tuned for that.

What's the Tea: Back in Business

In other news: I’m currently on the hunt for spring and everyday decor. After taking down my Christmas decorations, things are looking a bit blah around on my first floor. I have yet to really decide how I want to decorate any of these spaces for everyday. I’m looking forward to infusing a little style and personality. (You may remember that I sold my last house complete with the furnishings, so I need to rebuild my collection of decor goodies.)

Even though I’m late in starting, I’m so excited about this new year and continuing to share my adventures with you. (Oh, and that post about my new sofa will be on the blog tomorrow. I’ll meet you back here then.)

Really Good Blueberry Muffins recipe for breakfast, brunch, or anything in-between!

These Really Good Blueberry Muffins will quickly become your favorite and new go-to blueberry muffin recipe!

Last week my brother was in town for a concert so he spent the night at my new place. (He’s my first official guest!) Before the show, I drove him around to a few of the microbreweries in my neighborhood. We grabbed some dinner, and then I dropped him off at the concert venue.

Really Good Blueberry Muffin Recipe:

That’s when I scooted back to my apartment to whip up this Really Good Blueberry Muffin recipe. I decided to make muffins because I thought that with a cup of coffee, they’d be the perfect way to start the next day.

Blueberry muffins will forever be one of my favorite sweet breakfast foods. Donuts and cupcakes are at the head of the line (obviously), but I’ll never turn down a homemade blueberry muffin.

This is the time of year when my mom always made them. Just a quarter mile down the road from where she lives (and where I grew up), there was a large blueberry patch so fresh blueberries were plentiful every summer.

How to Make Blueberry Muffins:

If I remember correctly, blueberry muffins were also one of the treats (along with sour cream bread) that Mom would make for me to take back to college.

I love that food can hold such fond memories and allow us to time travel to different points in our lives through familiar and meaningful flavors.

I didn’t use my mom’s blueberry muffin recipe for these muffins because 1) I don’t have it (We’ll save it for another time.), and 2) I wanted something with a crumb topping. This recipe is a combination of a few I found online. The result was some really good blueberry muffins (hence, the name).

What’s especially great about this recipe is that the prep is minimal, and you don’t need a mixer. Just grab a couple bowls and you’re good to go.

Also, I’m guessing that you’ll have most of the ingredients in your pantry or fridge. (Not having to run to the store makes any recipe exponentially better!)

Just remember to pick up some fresh blueberries when you’re at the farmers market or your favorite grocery.

Let’s bake!

This Really Good Blueberry Muffins recipe is the best treat for breakfast, brunch, or afternoon snack.

Ingredients

Streusel Topping:

Instructions

  • Begin by preheating your oven to 400 degrees F. Line a couple muffin pans with paper liners and set aside.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the eggs and sugar until combined. Then whisk in the sour cream, oil, and vanilla extract.
  • Fold the wet ingredients into the dry and mix until almost combined.
  • In a small bowl, sprinkle 1 1/2 cups of blueberries with 1 tablespoon of flour and toss them until coated. (This will prevent the blueberries from sinking to the bottom of the muffins.) Then, gently fold them into your batter.
  • To make the streusel topping, mix together the flour, sugar, and cinnamon. Pour in the melted butter and stir with a fork until crumbly.
  • Scoop the batter into the prepared muffins tins, filling them about 2/3 full. Divide the remaining 1 cup of blueberries onto the top of each muffin. Then sprinkle each with the prepared streusel.
  • Place the muffin pan in the oven and reduce the heat to 375 degrees F. Bake for 20-24 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center of a muffin comes out clean.
  • Cool for 5-8 minutes in the pan. Then remove the muffins and allow them to finish cooling on a wire rack.

White Texas Sheet Cake for Valentine's Day #cake #texassheetcake #valentinesday #dessert #recipe

This White Texas Sheet Cake is a delightful way to serve a sweet treat to a crowd. And, dressed up with colorful sprinkles, it becomes a special dessert for Valentine’s Day!

White Texas Sheet Cake for Valentine's Day #cake #texassheetcake #valentinesday #dessert #recipe

Yes, my friends, today we’re whipping up a delicious White Texas Sheet Cake. I don’t know about you, but traditional Texas Sheet Cake (the chocolate variety) was a dessert staple in my family.

While I have yet to share that recipe (This post reminded me that I should.), I have shared my recipe for Peanut Butter Texas Sheet Cake, which is still one of my favorites!

White Texas Sheet Cake for Valentine's Day #cake #texassheetcake #valentinesday #dessert #recipe

I also decided to dress up this cake for Valentine’s Day with a variety of festive sprinkles. And speaking of Valentine’s Day, if you’re looking for more love-inspired treats, you can find a collection of my favorites here.

What is Texas Sheet Cake?

The day I was making this I was talking to a friend who told me he’d never heard of Texas Sheet Cake. I found that interesting so I did a little research, and it turns out that the origin of Texas Sheet Cake is a bit of a mystery. However, there is some connection to a similar dessert known as German Chocolate Cake. (Some day I also need to share a recipe for that. It’s yummy, too!)

White Texas Sheet Cake for Valentine's Day #cake #texassheetcake #valentinesday #dessert #recipe

People seem to like Texas Sheet Cake because it requires fewer steps and less time and clean-up. Plus, it’s a large cake. If desired, you could cut it into smaller pieces and serve even more than 24.

White Texas Sheet Cake for Valentine's Day #cake #texassheetcake #valentinesday #dessert #recipe

White Texas Sheet Cake for Valentine's Day #cake #texassheetcake #valentinesday #dessert #recipe

How do you make a White Texas Sheet Cake?

Well, it’s actually pretty easy. First, mix the dry ingredients in a bowl and then turn to the stove top to prepare your wet ingredients.

In fact, I think cooking some of the ingredients for both the cake and frosting is what makes this recipe taste a bit different from a standard cake.

Water and butter are brought to a boil and then added to the dry ingredients along with sour cream, eggs, and almond extract.

All of that gets baked in a large sheet pan, and it’s ready in about 20 minutes. So simple!

Next, a frosting glaze is made from confectioners’ sugar, melted butter, and milk. That is spread on the warm cake along with a handful of colorful Valentine’s Day sprinkles for the perfect finishing touch.

Front Yard Landscaping: The After #landscaping #frontyard #yard #planting #exterior

Another big project at Bayberry House is complete.

As I mentioned last week, after having a grove of dead and ugly trees removed, my new front yard landscaping was installed and grass was planted. Let me walk you through the process and show you the results!

Front Yard Landscaping: The Before #landscaping #frontyard #exterior

Before we do that, however, I must tell you how disappointed I was with the landscaper’s execution of the design. While the overall design and plant selection were great, the installation process and lack of attention to detail was a hot mess. I won’t go into more detail here, but I will be looking for a different landscaper in the future.

As I mentioned in my 2019 Bayberry House Project list, I want to tackle a landscaping project every year, so it’s important that I get a landscaper who does quality work. This might slow the progress in my yard a bit, but I’m pressing on.

With that out of the way, back to the progress!

Front Yard Landscaping: The After #landscaping #frontyard #yard #planting #exterior

Although different elevations aren’t always noticeable in photos, the planting bed where the trees had been had a fairly large hill on the front of it closest to the road. The landscaper’s first step was to knock out that hill and create a level surface for the new planting beds.

Front Yard Landscaping: The After #landscaping #frontyard #yard #planting #exterior

After that, the shape of the planting bed was laid out and topsoil was added. Then almost 150 shrubs and perennials were brought in. Yes, 150!

Here’s a look at the design plan and list of plants for those of you who are interested.

Front Yard Landscaping: The After #landscaping #frontyard #yard #planting #exterior

(There are two changes from this design plan. Both feature trees are different. The Cercis Canadensis Rising Run is now a Striped Maple and the Cornus Rutgan Steller Pink is now a Cornus Kousa Wolf Eyes.)

As I’ve mentioned, this area of Pittsburgh has a rather large deer population. It’s important to take that into account when selecting plantings.

Some of the new plants are attractive to deer, but they will get netting around them in the winter for protection.

Using the design plan as a guide, all of the shrubs, trees, and perennials were placed and then planted.

Front Yard Landscaping: The After #landscaping #frontyard #yard #planting #exterior

Front Yard Landscaping: The After #landscaping #frontyard #yard #planting #exterior

After being mulched and seeded with grass, this front yard landscaping project is complete!

Front Yard Landscaping: The After #landscaping #frontyard #yard #planting #exterior

As you might have surmised, all of this activity took place in the fall. Surprisingly, most of the plants hadn’t gone dormant yet, so there is still plenty of green in the photos. I plan to photograph this area again in the spring and summer so you can see how the garden and plantings look at different times of the year.

Front Yard Landscaping: The After #landscaping #frontyard #yard #planting #exterior

Front Yard Landscaping: The After #landscaping #frontyard #yard #planting #exterior

Front Yard Landscaping: The After #landscaping #frontyard #yard #planting #exterior

Also, when I took these photos, 3 or 4 plants were missing for one reason or another and the grass has not grown.. Once they were finally planted and the grass started to appear, everything else went dormant, so I didn’t bother to take more pictures.

As I said, I’ll circle back with more photos after winter, if you are interested.

Front Yard Landscaping: The After #landscaping #frontyard #yard #planting #exterior

I am so in love with all of the new plantings and how they make the landscape look much more intentional and cared for.

Front Yard Landscaping: The After #landscaping #frontyard #yard #planting #exterior

Front Yard Landscaping: The After #landscaping #frontyard #yard #planting #exterior

Speaking of plantings, here are a few of my favorites:

Peonies (Paeonia): There are nine peony bushes in two different varieties. Of course, they aren’t blooming now, but I do hope to see a few flowers this summer.

Hypericum Albury: You might recognize this bush since its branches are often used in floral arrangements. You can also buy hypericum in the grocery store with fresh flowers.

Striped Maple Tree (Acer pennsylvanicum): This is the tree closest to the house. Its leaves and bark are so beautiful.

Roses (Rosa Knockout): Adding roses is a bit of a test, as they are not deer resistant. However, I thought it was worth a shot. We’ll see how they do!

Allium: In case you’re not familiar with them, these look like big purple lollipops. These were planted as bulbs, so I’m looking forward to seeing them bloom in the years to come.

Bayberry (Myrica Pensylvanica): Yes, in a nod to the name of my home (“Bayberry House“), I added a few of these bushes. There are two varieties: one is standard and one is a dwarf variety. I love that their leaves are great for cutting. (If you’ll remember, I used some in my winter tablescape!)

I like all of the plants that were selected, but these were some I’m especially excited about!

Front Yard Landscaping: The After #landscaping #frontyard #yard #planting #exterior

As you can probably tell, this is just a small section of my yard. In time, I would like to extend this bed around the left side of the house and clean up the opposite side of the driveway to give the landscape a cohesive look. I also plan to eventually replace the shrubs in front of the house.

These outdoor landscaping projects are truly exciting for me! I’m looking forward to tackling a portion every year and seeing it all come back to life over time. Sometimes I think if I had it do it all over again, landscape architecture or working with plants would have been a good career path for me.

And before we wrap this all up, here’s a quick look at the before and after:

BEFORE:

Front Yard Landscaping: The Before #landscaping #frontyard #exterior

AFTER:

Front Yard Landscaping: The After #landscaping #frontyard #yard #planting #exterior

I’m loving it and SO excited to see it in the spring with that dirt patch as grass.

I hope you enjoyed seeing this project come together and picked up an idea or two for your own landscaping adventures.

Blackberry Banana Muffins:

I don’t know about you, but for me, nothing beats coffee and pastry first thing in the morning. If my waistline or metabolism allowed it, I’d eat that for breakfast every day. And you can bet these Blackberry Banana Muffins would be part of the pastry rotation.

Blackberry Banana Muffins with Oat Topping #breakfast #muffin #banana #blackberries #recipe

How to Make Blackberry Banana Muffins:

Somehow, I ended up with a bunch of extra bananas that were a little too ripe for my liking. (Does anyone else prefer a slightly green banana?) And since I also had a large container of fresh blackberries from Trader Joe’s, I decided to whip up a batch of Blackberry Banana Muffins.

Blackberry Banana Muffins with Oat Topping #breakfast #muffin #banana #blackberries #recipe

I topped the muffins with a sprinkling of old-fashioned rolled oats, and boy are they delicious!

I’m not going to claim they are “healthy,” but loaded with bananas, berries, oats, flaxseed, and honey, I don’t think they all that bad. If you wanted to up the health factor even more, you could cut out the 1/3 cup of sugar and use whole wheat flour instead of all-purpose flour.

No matter how you decide to make these Blackberry Banana Muffins up, you are sure to enjoy this recipe.

You may be wondering about serving them. They are fabulous plain. However, I enjoyed my muffins served warm with almond butter.

Tour my new Modern Colonial Home in Pittsburgh, PA. Inspired by Charm's New Home. #moderncolonial #inspiredbycharm #hometour

Last week I posted a Q&A on my Instagram stories and received a lot of great ideas for blog post topics. One of the most requested was information on home projects I plan to complete this year.

I love this topic because I had not yet sat down and listed out projects I want to do in my home in 2019. While I have a mess of ideas in my head, I just hadn’t put pen to paper (or in this case, fingers to keyboard) until now.

As I compiled this list, I realized there’s so much I’d like to do. This list is a bit ambitious, and I realize that due to time and money, not all of these projects may come to fruition in 2019. Still, I figured it’s good to dream big.

I also included a few items at the end of this post that detail other things I’d like to tackle if funds and time permit. So, without further ado, these are my 2019 Bayberry House Projects!

KITCHEN RENOVATION:

Okay, this is the big one. And if I just complete this major project in 2019, I’ll be satisfied. In the next couple of weeks, I’d like to have a tentative timeline for this project. My hope is that work will begin by March.

Naturally, I will be sharing updates throughout the project. I intend to do a before post soon as well as a post that outlines my plans and shows the new layout. In a nutshell, the kitchen will be gutted. That means installing new flooring, cabinets, lighting, appliances, and windows, tearing out a portion of a wall, and making a lot of other changes. Yes, it’s a huge project.

Home Improvement Projects at #BayberryHouse

As a result of the Kitchen Renovation …

Since the kitchen is connected to several other rooms on the first floor, I’ve decided to tackle a few more projects during the renovation. Some are necessary and some are just easier to do while things are already being disturbed. These projects include …

Powder Room Renovation

I currently have a full bathroom (with a shower) on the first floor. This will be converted into a smaller powder room and pantry.

Replace French Doors with Windows

I love my dining room, but it’s a dark space with only a set of French doors to the outside. The plan is to put in 2 or 3 new windows on one wall and replace the French doors. This will bring in a lot of light to the dining room and the adjacent kitchen.

Replace Entryway Floors and Refinish First Floor Hardwood Floors

I will be extending the wood floors from my living room, dining room, and family room into the entryway and kitchen. Currently, the entryway floor is slate, and although it doesn’t show in the photos, the slate is damaged, plus there is paint spatter and crumbling grout.

New hardwoods will be installed in the kitchen and entryway, and then all the hardwoods in the downstairs will be refinished to match.

This refinishing project will include the entryway stairs and banister leading to the second floor.

A look at my newly painted entryway. Color: Farrow and Ball Stiffkey Blue

Replace Entryway Closet

During all of this, I also want to rip out the closet in the entryway to open up this area. I will still need storage space for coats, a vacuum cleaner, and a few small outdoor items, so I plan to install custom cabinetry down the road. It just makes sense to take the closet out now so new hardwood flooring can be installed there as well.

Well, that’s it for the kitchen remodel sub-projects. It wasn’t my intent to take on so much while redoing the kitchen, but given that the kitchen touches these areas, I don’t have much choice.

A look at my newly painted entryway. Color: Farrow and Ball Stiffkey Blue

OTHER PROJECTS:

Create a Planting Garden

I had big plans last fall to put in a planting garden for vegetables. This sounds like a fairly simple project, but we have a sizable deer population in my neighborhood so creating a garden entails more than building a couple raised beds. Everything needs to be enclosed to protect the plants from being destroyed by the deer.

I was working with a landscape business that I had hoped could help bring my vision to life. Unfortunately, I was extremely disappointed with the work the company completed, so now I need to find another landscaper and start from the beginning.

Needless to say, I’m still trying to figure this one out. At the very least, I can create a small informal garden on my own and enclose it with nets, if needed. I would just love to be able to plant a few veggies!

Tour my new Modern Colonial Home in Pittsburgh, PA. Inspired by Charm's New Home. #moderncolonial #inspiredbycharm #hometour

Paint and Decorate Bedrooms and Office

In general, I’d like to get everything painted on my second floor and start decorating it. I haven’t done much in any of my bedrooms or my office, and it’s starting to drive me bananas. As may remember, I sold my last house complete with furnishings, so that means I don’t have beds, dressers, side tables, and the like. A blessing and a curse, I suppose.

What is holding me up is that I have bigger plans for these spaces: built-ins in the office and master bedroom, major bathroom remodels, and more. However, I don’t know when those things will happen. Therefore, I need to forge ahead in a smart way. At the very least, I want to get everything painted, pick out furnishings and curtains, and update light fixtures.

Do you need a water softener? A Water Softener for My Home #water #softener #home #repair #hardwater

Fix Exterior Chimney

You may have noticed in some of the photos of my home’s exterior that there are problematic bricks. I’m not sure what’s going on, but a few bricks here and there (mostly on one of my chimneys) are crumbling away. I need to get this situation checked out and have the brickwork repaired and repainted.

Since new window openings are part of the kitchen remodel, I might need to repaint the brick portion of my house. However, I’m hoping a few touch ups will suffice for now until I’m ready to replace the siding.

My New GAF Roof with Timberline Ultra HD Charcoal Shingles #newroof #shingles

Create a Molding Plan

Now I know this sounds totally strange, but I love interior moldings and want to figure out a plan for this house. I want everything to be consistent and coordinated, so I need to formulate a plan and select go-to moldings that I can use throughout the house.

My thoughts are that this will come together nicely when I do over the kitchen as a lot of molding decisions will need to be made there.

Landscape Project

As I mentioned in a post last week, I hope to tackle a small landscaping project every year. I haven’t decided which project I’m going to do this year, but first I need to find a new and fabulous landscaper so we can figure out something together.

I do know that a few more trees need to come down. This is usually expensive since the trees are quite tall, so I want to do a little every year to keep costs more manageable.

Front Yard Landscaping: The Before #landscaping #frontyard #exterior

Other Possible Projects:
Replace Upstairs Windows
Upgrade Front Porch
Build Outdoor Storage Shed
Update Living Room Built-ins
Change Living Room Fireplace to Gas

And that’s it. Quite a list, right?

While I’m both excited and overwhelmed, I know many of these changes will help me feel more at home in Bayberry House. I’m also looking forward to sharing my adventure with all of you!

I hope you enjoyed this look at my plans for the new year, especially if you’re one of the folks who requested this information. If you have more questions, please let me know in the comments below.

Trader Joe's Pancake Bread Recipe #pancake #bread #quickbread #cinnamon #maple #recipe #traderjoes

There’s a new bread in town: Trader Joe’s Pancake Bread. After sampling it, I’m sharing my version of Trader Joe’s Pancake Bread Recipe.

Trader Joe's Pancake Bread Recipe #pancake #bread #quickbread #cinnamon #maple #recipe #traderjoes

On Tuesday I stopped by Trader Joe’s to get my weekly haul. Even though I’m trying to be more mindful of the sweets I eat, I couldn’t pass up their new “Pancake Bread.” – Who doesn’t love bread with a cinnamon and sugar top crust?

Trader Joe's Pancake Bread Recipe #pancake #bread #quickbread #cinnamon #maple #recipe #traderjoes

After dinner that evening, I decided to enjoy a piece, and it tasted oddly familiar in the most wonderful way! I was instantly reminded of my own Cinnamon Sour Cream Bread!

Traders Joe’s Pancake Bread:

So I did a quick google search to see if I could find a recipe. Nothing came up except lots of reviews and hype for this new sweet treat. Finding no recipe online but already having a recipe that’s pretty similar in taste, I thought I’d try my hand at copying the Trader Joe’s Pancake Bread.

Trader Joe's Pancake Bread Recipe #pancake #bread #quickbread #cinnamon #maple #recipe #traderjoes

Trader Joe's Pancake Bread Recipe #pancake #bread #quickbread #cinnamon #maple #recipe #traderjoes

Before I get to my recipe, I need to share a few notes. Although Trader Joe’s Pancake Bread is absolutely delicious (I could have eaten the entire loaf in one sitting.), I didn’t think it tasted much like pancakes. I did pick up notes of maple and buttermilk, but if I were blindfolded, I don’t think pancakes would come to mind. I think it’s mostly clever marketing, but it certainly worked on me.

Another note about Trader Joe’s version: I found it a bit challenging to get the bread out of the cardboard pan. That kind of baking pan always makes it a bit tricky to cut nice-looking slices.

Trader Joe's Pancake Bread Recipe #pancake #bread #quickbread #cinnamon #maple #recipe #traderjoes

A final note: Let me reiterate how tasty Trader Joe’s Pancake Bread is. Given how closely it matches the flavor of my ultimate quick bread, I heartily recommend it and am excited to share my copycat version of the recipe.

So, how do you make Traders Joe’s Pancake Bread?

Since this is a quick bread, it’s easy to prepare. Mix the wet and dry ingredients separately, and then combine them.

To give the bread a maple flavor that is quintessential of pancakes, I recommend using high-quality pure maple syrup. My favorite is from Finding Home Farms.

Trader Joe's Pancake Bread Recipe #pancake #bread #quickbread #cinnamon #maple #recipe #traderjoes

Trader Joe's Pancake Bread Recipe #pancake #bread #quickbread #cinnamon #maple #recipe #traderjoes

As I mentioned, the Trader Joe’s version contained buttermilk. I used sour cream instead because that’s what’s called for in my quick bread recipe. Since buttermilk is just sour milk and milk is cream, it works!

When everything is mixed together, spread it into a greased and floured loaf pan and then top it with a combination of sugar, flour, and cinnamon.

And that’s it! Pop it into the oven for about an hour and your delicious Trader Joe’s Pancake Bread Recipe (Copycat) is complete.

I prefer my bread, but the two versions taste quite similar. Again, buttermilk pancakes? Maybe. Delicious? Definitely.

Trader Joe's Pancake Bread Recipe #pancake #bread #quickbread #cinnamon #maple #recipe #traderjoes

I like to serve this bread with just a thin layer of butter. Perfection! However, I couldn’t resist styling a few slices drizzled with maple syrup. It’s not necessary, but you could certainly add a drizzle of maple syrup if you like.

Ingredients

Bread:
Topping:

Instructions

  • Begin by preheating your oven to 350 degrees F. Grease and flour a 9x5-inch loaf pan; set aside.
  • In a small bowl, prepare the topping by whisking together the flour, sugar, and cinnamon. Set aside.
  • Then, for the bread, in a large bowl whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  • In a medium size bowl, with a handheld (or electric mixer) beat the softened butter about three minutes until it's light and airy. Add the sugar and beat about four minutes until it's well incorporated. Next, add the eggs one at a time, mixing in the first one before adding the second. Finally, beat in the pure maple syrup, sour cream, and the vanilla.
  • Now gently incorporate the wet ingredients into the dry. Mix until just combined, being careful not to overmix. The final mixture will be more the consistency of dough rather than runny like cake batter.
  • Spread the mixture into your prepared loaf pan.
  • Finally, sprinkle the flour, sugar, and cinnamon mixture evenly over the top of the loaf.
  • Bake at 350 degrees F for 55-60 minutes. The loaf is done when a toothpick (or wood skewer) inserted near the center comes out clean.
  • Allow the loaf to cool in the pan for about 20 minutes. Gently run a butter knife around the edge of the pan to loosen the loaf. Remove the loaf from the pan to finish cooling.

Sour Patch Kids Valentine's Day Cookies #valentinesday #cookies #sourpatchkids #sugarcookie #recipe

These Sour Patch Kids Valentine’s Day Cookies are a fun, unique, and tasty treat to bake for Valentine’s Day.

Sour Patch Kids Valentine's Day Cookies #valentinesday #cookies #sourpatchkids #sugarcookie #recipe

Yes, my friends, ’tis the season for sweet treats, chocolates, and all things red and pink. I’m excited to kick off another holiday here on IBC with these Sour Patch Kids Valentine’s Day Cookies! (Oh, and be sure to check out more of my Valentine’s Day treats here.)

Sour Patch Kids Valentine's Day Cookies #valentinesday #cookies #sourpatchkids #sugarcookie #recipe

About now I’m guessing you might be thinking, “Wow, those sound interesting!” or “Michael, you’ve lost it. Gross!”

<h2>So how do you make these Sour Patch Kids Valentine’s Day Cookies?</h2>

Well, I’m here to tell you that these unique Valentine’s Day cookies are crazy delicious. I never would have thought to put sour gummy candies in sugar cookies, but the combination totally works.

Sour Patch Kids Valentine's Day Cookies #valentinesday #cookies #sourpatchkids #sugarcookie #recipe

I got this idea from my internet friend Kathy of Mama Kat’s Losin It. She has a YouTube channel that I thoroughly enjoy. (You can check it out and subscribe here.)

She’s started a weekly series in which she’s baking/cooking the recipes she finds on the back of products from the grocery store. Someone suggested that she try these Sour Patch Kids Sugar Cookies, and after watching her video, I was intrigued. She certainly lured me into making them, and I’m so glad she did!

(Also, speaking of Kathy, take a look at this video of her niece cracking eggs. It’s adorable!! She made it at my request, and I couldn’t be more grateful. It’s pure joy!)

Sour Patch Kids Valentine’s Day Cookies?

Sour Patch Kids Valentine's Day Cookies #valentinesday #cookies #sourpatchkids #sugarcookie #recipe

Well, they are pretty simple. All you need is sugar cookie dough and Sour Patch Kids candy. Since it’s almost Valentine’s Day, I opted to use the heart-shaped candies, but any shape or variety will do.

Sour Patch Kids Valentine's Day Cookies #valentinesday #cookies #sourpatchkids #sugarcookie #recipe

I also decided to make my own sugar cookie dough, which is below. You can use that recipe, get a bag mix like Kathy did, or mix up your family’s favorite sugar cookie recipe.

The sugar cookie dough I made is a tad different from my go-to sugar cookie recipe. It’s a softer and lighter, making it ideal for a drop sugar cookie.

Sour Patch Kids Valentine's Day Cookies #valentinesday #cookies #sourpatchkids #sugarcookie #recipe

Once your dough is ready, just mix in a few cups of the Sour Patch Kids candies.

Sour Patch Kids Valentine's Day Cookies #valentinesday #cookies #sourpatchkids #sugarcookie #recipe

I found that a 1 1/2-inch ball of dough flattened with my hand before baking makes a nice sized cookie.

I also saved a few of the gummy candies to place on top of each cookie before baking. They give a sneak peek as to what’s inside the cookies, but they’re optional.

What you get is a soft cookie packed with fruit-flavored gummy candy. As you mix in the candy, some of the sour sugar comes off into the batter making for a unique and tasty flavor.

Also, the candy does soften a bit the cookies bake, so you won’t be biting into a hard gummy candy. I especially love these cookies when they are still warm because the candy is extra soft. However, they are equally tasty when cool.

So what do you think? Will you give these cookies a try? If you do, let me know what you think!

Ingredients

Instructions

  • Begin by preheating your oven to 375 degrees F. In a large bowl, beat together the butter, oil, sugar, and confectioners' sugar using a hand or stand mixer. Beat in the eggs one at a time until smooth; then beat in the vanilla.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, cream of tartar, and kosher salt. Add all of this to the creamed mixture and mix until almost combined. Then add 2 3/4 cups of the Sour Patch Kids and gently mix to evenly distribute them.
  • Roll the dough into 1 1/2-inch balls and place them on an ungreased cookie sheet about 2 inches apart. Flatten each ball by pressing it with your hand. If desired, add an extra Sour Patch Kid to the top of each cookie.
  • Bake 8-10 minutes until lightly browned. Place cookies on wire racks to cool. Pack and store in an airtight container.

Notes

*I used the heart-shaped candies for Valentine's Day, but any variety will work.
