I love these large jars that I recently purchased as they are great for storing the Cinnamon Pecans and Walnuts. The jars are beautiful and look fabulous on your counter or make a great way to present the nuts as a gift. You can also find the jars in a smaller size here. I upgraded my jars with these black plastic lids for a beautiful finishing touch.

Maple Apple Blondies

Maple and apple are some of my favorite flavors to bake with during the fall season. Today, I put these two together to create these Maple Apple Blondies. The best way I can describe them is that they are kind of like a brownie, but for autumn!

Delicious Maple Apple Blondies #dessert #recipe #maple #apple #blondies #fallbaking #bars

These Maple Apple Blondies are really easy to put together and are a great dessert to just have on hand or bring to any fall gathering. They go over really well because they have the classic autumn-time flavors we have come to know and love, but are presented in a unique way.

Want more fall cookie / bar recipes? Try these:

I used Honeycrisp apples for this recipe because that’s what I had on hand. You can use whatever baking apple you prefer. I will mention that I do like something a bit more firm, so the apples don’t get too soft when cooked and baked.

One thing I will say is that these are very rich and sweet. I cut my bars pretty big. I might suggest cutting them a bit smaller to get about 36 bars out of the pan. Just something to keep in mind.

Ready to give this recipe a try? Let me show you how to make them!

Pecan Pumpkin Bread Pudding

Fall desserts might be my favorite kind of dessert. I just love all of the flavors and spices that make up that classic fall season taste. While I have lots of fall dessert recipes on the blog (I’ll link a few below), I enjoy adding additional dessert recipes to my list every season. In this post, I’m excited to bring you this Pecan Pumpkin Bread Pudding!

While I shared a pumpkin bread pudding with you several years ago, this one is different because I’ve incorporated pecans and made the bread pudding with cinnamon raisin bagels. When I’m creating something new, I love layering flavors and this recipe is no exception. The pecans add a toasty crunch and the raisins add a little pop of tartness. It’s so good!

For the bagels, I recommend Dave’s Killer Bread Cinnamon Raisin Remix bagels. They are my absolute favorite and work perfectly in this recipe.

Halloween Entryway Decor Ideas

I’ve been wanting to do this witch-themed Halloween entryway decor since last year. You might remember that around this time a year ago, I had my new entryway cabinetry installed. I wanted to get it decorated for the season and then life happened and it just didn’t come together.

Well, this year I was determined to bring it to life and I did just that!

Let’s take a look at how this Halloween entryway decor came together!

Witchy Halloween Entryway Decor

The overall theme for this look was to create something witchy. I knew I would need a hat, a broom, and some shoes. (I’ve linked as many of the sources as I could at the end of this post.)

Witchy Halloween Entryway Decor #halloween #entryway #decor #decorating #ideas #spooky #witch

Witchy Halloween Entryway Decor #halloween #entryway #decor #decorating #ideas #spooky #witch

From there, I wanted to keep the color scheme to black, cream, and natural. I actually tried decorating this a few different times with more color and different decor and it just didn’t work. In the end, I went back to my first color combo choice and I’m loving it!

As I mentioned in my Fall Home Tour, I’m trying really hard not to bring extra “stuff” into my home so I used a lot of what I had and then added in other necessary items.

You might remember the paper mâché ghosts and cat that I used last year on my Halloween table. While these are reproductions, I love their vintage feel. (You can find the large ghoul faced bucket HERE.)

The broom was a hand-me-down from my Dad’s wife. She wasn’t using it anymore and I mentioned I needed one. It’s perfect!

The “Spooky” banner is from My Mind’s Eye. (You can find it HERE.) They have THE BEST paper goods and party supplies. I highly recommend checking them out.

From there I just filled in with baskets, brooms, a black feather wreath (from HomeGoods), and some fuzzy spiders. I even used some of my DIY colored wheat to bring some of that straw color and texture to the shelf.

Luckily, the pillows that I had here before fit in perfectly thanks to their black and cream color scheme. To make them a little bit spookier. I tucked in this really odd cat/pumpkin pillow which I found at a local antique store. It fit in perfectly!

And with that, my witch-inspired Halloween entryway decor was complete. Or so I thought …

Since every witch needs their cat, I enlisted Leo’s help for a few photos. (Ruby and Jax are not a fan of the camera so they weren’t part of the photoshoot!) Leo fit in perfectly, although I think he makes this whole space look more on the cute side rather than spooky! Ha.

Pumpkin French Toast Casserole:

If it weren’t for the need to constantly be grocery shopping and then having to buy clothes in a larger size, I’d gladly spend all of autumn in my kitchen, baking up delicious treats and savory eats. I suppose I’m in full fall nesting mode. Bring on cool days, cozy blankets, and Law & Order SVU marathons.

My latest baking endeavor is this Pumpkin French Toast Casserole. Friends, this might be the new fall favorite at my house. It took a lot of willpower not to make this my breakfast, lunch, and dinner for several days straight. I loved it that much.

You all loved my Cinnamon Apple French Toast Casserole so much that I was inspired to try a pumpkin version!

I am so enamored of the combination of pumpkin and maple. I think that’s what almost pushed me over the edge of self-control with this casserole. It’s also super simple to whip up and feeds 10-12 people. Plus, you do most of the preparation the night before. What more could you ask for?

Topped with some of my Cinnamon Maple Butter it really is a breakfast treat!

Let me show you how to make it.

How to Make Pumpkin French Toast Casserole:

Start with sliced brioche. The loaf I used for this recipe came from Walmart. However, I’m sure any brioche bread would work well.

Spread the slices out in a 9×13-inch baking pan that has been sprayed with baking spray. (I LOVE this baking dish from Staub. It’s a classic and a must-have in my kitchen. I also have the smaller sizes.)

Then, in a large bowl, mix the eggs, milk, pumpkin puree, sugar, and spices.

Once the pumpkin custard mixture is thoroughly whisked, pour it on the prepared bread. After you give everything a sprinkle of cinnamon, tightly cover the dish with aluminum foil and pop it in the refrigerator overnight.

In the morning, preheat your oven to 350 degrees F and bake the casserole until set. That’s it!

I like to keep the dish covered for about 30 minutes and then remove the aluminum foil to finish baking. Otherwise, the bread will get too dark before that amazing pumpkin custard is set.

To serve, lightly dust it with powdered sugar and then slice it up.

This Apple Pie Sangria is like sipping on a slice of homemade apple pie. Made with apple cider, caramel vodka, and crisp white wine, this fall sangria is a delicious way to savor the flavors of the season.

Apple Pie Sangria | inspiredbycharm.com

Apple Pie Sangria:

As you may have noticed, sangria is among my favorite libations to create. (You can find all of my recipes here.) The first time I remember having really good sangria was back when I lived in Philly.

Ever since then I’ve been hooked on the stuff and will come up with any excuse to make it. It’s the perfect beverage for a party since large quantities can be made in advance. Plus, it’s fancy without being fussy. That’s my kind of beverage.

In this post, I’m adding to my every growing list of sangria recipes with this Apple Pie Sangria!

Apple Pie Sangria | inspiredbycharm.com

During the fall, I love making sangria with fresh apple cider and spices. Drinking it is like a slice of heaven on earth.

LOOKING FOR MORE TASTY FALL COCKTAILS? TRY THESE:

How to Make Apple Pie Sangria:

I’m calling this Apple Pie Sangria because it includes all of the flavors we love in traditional apple pie (sans the crust). To bring in those classic apple pie spices, I make my own Apple Pie Spice Simple Syrup. It might sound complicated, but let me assure you, it’s not. It’s just your basic simple syrup recipe with spices added. That’s it.

I have a full post dedicated to my simple syrup recipes if you want to read more about them and how to use them. You can find that HERE.

Apple Pie Sangria | inspiredbycharm.com

Having the spices in the syrup allows them to easily incorporate into the cold beverage. Otherwise they would clump up or float to the top, and that would not be good.

Apple Pie Sangria | inspiredbycharm.com

Apple Pie Sangria | inspiredbycharm.com

Apple Pie Sangria | inspiredbycharm.com

To complete the delicious fall flavors in this sangria, I used a new salted caramel vodka that I picked up at the liquor store. It adds another layer of flavor to this cocktail that’s just perfect. You can certainly use regular caramel vodka if that’s what you have on hand.

Also, you noticed I used a lemon but the recipe calls for an orange. While a lemon certainly works, I recommend an orange. I just happened to have a lemon on hand when I prepared this.

Apple Pie Sangria | inspiredbycharm.com

And that’s it! A few special and unique touches make this a delightful sangria for fall. Whip this up on a Thursday night, and you’ll be set to enjoy it all weekend. You’re welcome. You can find the full details on this Apple Pie Sangria in the printable recipe card below.

Apple Pie Sangria | inspiredbycharm.com

Yep, it’s that simple. It looks pretty, too. You can use whatever glass you’d like, but I think it’s fitting to serve it up in copper mugs garnished with a cinnamon stick. It’s fall perfection.

Cheers, friends!

Pumpkin Cheesecake Bars

When I think about it, some of my favorite pumpkin treats involve cream cheese. I love the combination of sweet and spiced pumpkin mixed with tangy and smooth cream cheese. These Pumpkin Cheesecake Bars are just that, plus two layers of crunch and flavor to really bring them together.

Let me explain. These bars start with a vanilla cookie crust, then get a layer of plain cheesecake, then a layer of pumpkin cheesecake, and to top this off, they are finished with a seasonally spiced crumble topping. Are you drooling yet? If not, you should be.

How to Make Pumpkin Cheesecake Bars

Spray a 9×13 baking pan with baking spray. Set aside.

Begin by making the crust. In a bowl, mix together the crushed vanilla wafers and butter. Spread and press this mixture evenly into your prepared pan. Refrigerate for about 15 minutes. For your convenience, I’ve shared the full recipe with detailed ingredient amounts in a printable recipe card below.

In a large bowl, cream together the cream cheese and sugar. Then add in the eggs and vanilla and beat until smooth. Spread half of this mixture evenly onto the chilled crust. Freeze for 20 minutes until slightly firm.

Preheat your oven to 325 degrees F.

To the leftover cream cheese mixture, add in the pumpkin puree, cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger. Beat until smooth. Spread this carefully over the white cheesecake layer. Bake for 30 minutes.

In the meantime, prepare the crumble topping. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and salt. Add in the butter and use a fork or pastry blender to combine.

After 30 minutes of baking, sprinkle the crumb mixture evenly on top of the cheesecake. Return the cheesecake to the oven for another 30 minutes or until a knife inserted near the center comes out clean.

Completely cool the bars before slicing and serving. Bars should be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator.

I can’t express enough how good these are. I kept them in my fridge for way too long and used every excuse I could muster up to open that fridge door and enjoy them. Oh, it’s breakfast; I should probably eat one. I just had a salty snack; I need something sweet to balance it. Time for an after-dinner dessert; I’ll just grab a pumpkin cheesecake bar. Ha! It was a real problem, friends.

So, if you’re looking for a new and delicious pumpkin spice dessert, I recommend you give these Pumpkin Cheesecake Bars a go!

Fall Decorating Ideas from Bayberry House #falldecor #hometour #fall #decorating #ideas #seasonaldecor

Step inside my home for some colorful, cozy, and fabulous fall decorating ideas. I’m giving you a look around in hopes of inspiring you to decorate your own space for the season.

Fall Decorating Ideas from Bayberry House #falldecor #hometour #fall #decorating #ideas #seasonaldecor

Fall Decorating Ideas from Bayberry House

I’ve already kicked off autumn of 2021 by sharing a few fall decorating ideas which mostly were from previous years, so I thought I would invite you back into my home to share some of my current fall decorating.

This post is part of my Seasons of Home holiday decor series. This week my blogger friends and I are giving you some fabulous fall decorating ideas by sharing our Fall Home Tours. All of these talented ladies are linked at the end of this post. When you are done looking around here, be sure to click through to see all of their stunning homes and inspired ideas.

More Fall Decorating Ideas:

When it comes to seasonal decorating, I never feel like I’m done. (Yes, this is both a blessing and a curse.) Consequently, this little Fall Home Tour is more of a “this is how things look right now” rather than “this is a completed look at my home for the season.” Hopefully, that makes sense.

With that being said, this tour may feel a bit random (that’s because it is), but be sure to stop back because I’m certain I’ll have more new things to share as the season unfolds. I also highly recommend joining the Inspired by Charm Mailing List if you want to ensure you don’t miss a thing. Additionally, I have a fun email series on how to create a picture-perfect fall. You can join that series HERE if you’re interested.

With that, let’s get on with the tour!

Fall Decorating Ideas – Living Room:

Last week I gave you a look at how I styled my living room for the fall season. In case you missed that, I’ll give you a mini-tour here. (Check out this post for more details.)

Even though this room is somewhat white and bright, the addition of amber and rust tones, fall decor, cozy texture, and flickering flames helps this space feel warm and inviting. Brass elements, a lantern, and other seasonal accessories tie into the color scheme and add warmth to the room.

Since sharing the previous post, I did make a little addition that I wanted to show you. If you’re following me on Instagram (@inspiredbycharm), you might know I just completed a 30-day art challenge. Well, I took one of my oil paintings from the art challenge, a pumpkin, and added it to my bookshelf. I love how it looks.

That was a quick tour of this room, so if you want to see more, you can find the full post about this space HERE.

Fall Decorating Ideas –  Entryway:

I also recently shared my Witchy Halloween Entryway Decor HERE. This was so fun to style and decorate and I love the end results.

Fall Decorating Ideas –  Family Room:

Over in my family room, I kept things pretty much the same with just a few slight changes.

First, I created a new “boo-tiful” fall mantel using my collection of handmade pottery tealight ghosts from Mollie Jenkins Pottery. (You can read all about this mantel HERE.) The ghost are currently not for sale. She typically sells these ghosts on a given day in August and they sell out in minutes. I’ve purchased a couple every year for the past three years to build up this collection.

Along with the ghosts I added a little DIY chalkboard, fall leaves, white pumpkins, and a few candlesticks.

To the left of the fireplace, I have a wall space that I never know what to do with. I had a little shelf here but didn’t love it, so I decided to swap it out for a little peg rail that I styled with a bunch of throws and blankets. I’m really loving how this change looks! Plus, it’s totally functional as we head into the cold-weather season. Bring on all the cozy feels.

I may have gone a little too matchy-matchy with the hues, but I like it nonetheless. Either way, it’s nice to have some cozy blankets for chilly weather.

Another change I made to this room was swapping out the wall sconces on either side of my TV. I think the ones that I had here previously looked nice, but they only directed light downward which made them kind if of useless. This room doesn’t have any sort of overhead lighting so it can get pretty dark in here. These new lights offer so much more light and really brighten up the room. Plus, they look fabulous!

Cozy Fall Mantel Decor Ideas #fall #mantel #decor #ideas #falldecor #decorating #manteldecor #autumn #ideas #cozy

Welcome to my home! I’m inviting you back into my living room to share with you some cozy fall mantel decor ideas. These simple ideas will help you get your home ready for stepping into the autumn season.

Cozy Fall Mantel Decor Ideas

Yes, my friends, it’s time for a new season which means a shift in decor. Today we are starting with some fall mantel decor in my living room.

I’m attempting a new approach for my seasonal decor this year. Typically, I feel the need to buy a bunch of new things and start from scratch each year. Since I’ve been doing and sharing things that way for over ten years now, my new goal is to buy less (way less) and use what I have. I may even be able to get rid of some stuff.

Cozy Fall Mantel Decor Ideas #fall #mantel #decor #ideas #falldecor #decorating #manteldecor #autumn #ideas #cozy

I especially LOVE decorating for the fall and holiday seasons, but I’m finding that as I get older, all of the “stuff” can be more of a stress inducer than a joy inducer. I know it won’t be as easy as flipping a light switch because I enjoy all of my decor things, but my goal is to only keep and buy the things I really love and attempt to simplify a bit each year moving forward.

And don’t worry, I’m not becoming a minimalist (not that there’s anything wrong with that). There will still be plenty of decor inspiration and ideas to come. I just want to see how this new approach feels.

Cozy Fall Mantel Decor Ideas #fall #mantel #decor #ideas #falldecor #decorating #manteldecor #autumn #ideas #cozy

I’m not sure you needed to know all of that, but there you go! Ha!

With all that being said, let me show you around my living room and share some fall mantel decor ideas with you!

Living Room Fall Mantel Decor

Right around this time last year, I had a completely new mantel, fireplace surround, and bookcases installed in my living room. This project was finished so late in the season that I didn’t even decorate for the fall; instead, I just went ahead and styled the space for Christmas.

That makes this fall mantel decor extra exciting as I basically get to style my mantel area for the first time!

The existing colors in this room are navy and green so I kept those colors and added in some warmer, cozier amber tones.

On the fireplace, I swapped out the artwork for this simple black framed arch mirror. From there I styled things with books, faux pumpkins, vintage brass pheasants, candles, and amber glass jars/vases. I was even able to tuck in the sweetgum ball wreath that I made last year.

The arrangement (which you might remember from my post about Inexpensive Fall Decor) is just preserved oak leaves and dried allium.

On the hearth, I added in some more faux pumpkins, black lanterns, and a stack of birch logs in a vintage magazine holder. And since I know someone will ask, yes, my fireplace is gas. I made the switch from wood burning to gas last year and have loved the change. You can read more about that here.

For the bookcases, I kept things mostly the same with a few minor changes.

First, I swapped out some of the brighter teal and green books for brown and orange books. In some cases, I just turned the books around so you couldn’t see the spines. (If you want to see what this looked like before, check out this post HERE.) I’m not referencing these particular books a lot, so in this case, I’m more concerned with esthetics over functionality.

From there I added in a few small pumpkins, a large bowl of pinecones/potpourri, and some more amber bottles.

While this isn’t a full living room tour, you’ll also notice that I swapped out some of my throw pillows on the sofa to tie in all of the colors of the room. I also added some amber bottles with a few sprigs of fresh greens to the coffee table.

Leo decided to check out the sofa and new pillows while I was photographing this space. He might be the cutest photo-bomber ever!

Side note: If you missed it, earlier this week I shared how to create fall flower arrangements. I had fun styling them in this room. You can check out that post HERE if you want to see more of those and get some flower arranging tips!

I think everything turned out so lovely. One thing I would love to change is the ottoman and rug. I LOVE both, but I think it’s time for a change. In fact, the ottoman and the rug were not purchased for this space. The ottoman was one of the only pieces I brought from my previous home. (It used to be in my “closet”) and the rug was from the office in my apartment. I’m on the lookout!

Tips for Beautiful Fall Flower Arrangements

Styling flowers has become one of my favorite things to do. I often think that if being a full-time blogger wasn’t my career path, I would totally be a floral designer or flower farmer. It brings me such joy!

I recently put together a few fall flower arrangements and wanted to share them with you. I took photos of the process, step-by-step, in hopes of passing along my flower arranging tips and tricks to you!

Side note: In this post, I’m also joined by my Seasons of Home blogger friends for even more seasonal decorating inspiration. This week it is all about fall flower arrangements and autumn centerpieces. Be sure to click through all of the other posts linked at the end of this post for more beautiful ideas!

I think it’s important to mention that I’m not a professional flower arranger or floral artist. I like to think of myself as a floral enthusiast. I have a passion for flowers and love styling them in beautiful ways. Now, without tooting my own horn, I am very pleased with the pretty stylish arrangements I am able to whip up. Therefore, I want to share some of the things I like to do when I arrange flowers and pass along some tips I’ve learned through the years.

One final thing I want to mention is that floral design is like any other type of design. You might not like this arrangement, you might have liked it better with less filler, you may hate the vase, you may not agree with my flower choice, etc. I encourage you to create whatever it is you love. Choose the ingredients you love and stop when you’re happy with your arrangement. There are many different styles of bouquets and they should all be celebrated.

Let’s Create Some Fall Flower Arrangements

Before we start arranging, I thought I would share a list of the flowers that I’m using. With the exception of the preserved oak leaves, all of these flowers are from PetalDriven. (A special thanks to PetalDriven for providing all of these flowers so that I could share these tips with you.) If you’re looking for direct wholesale flowers shipped straight to your door, PetalDriven has become a go-to for me. You can save 10% on your order by using code “INSPIRED10” at checkout.

I wanted a color palette of pink, cream, and orange. This is one of my favorite color combos for fall flower arrangements. To achieve this look, I chose:

Tips for Beautiful Fall Flower Arrangements #fallflowers #flowers #arragements #bouquet #autumn #blooms #homedecor #falldecor #decorating

With your flowers selected, let’s create some fabulous fall flower arrangements!

Start with a Vase You Love

This is one of my favorite vases I picked up several years ago at HomeGoods. I love the shape and it’s a neutral color. Mostly anything will look good in here. One thing to keep in mind when you’re selecting your vase is the size of the opening. Generally speaking, the bigger the opening the more flowers you’re going to need and the more challenging it will be to arrange. This is why I often use pitchers for my vases because they typically start larger at the bottom and narrow towards the top.

Tips for Beautiful Fall Flower Arrangements #fallflowers #flowers #arragements #bouquet #autumn #blooms #homedecor #falldecor #decorating

Add Filler

I like to add some filler to start as this begins to fill up the vase and will make placing the rest of the flowers a bit easier. It’s almost like creating a grid or netting and helps to hold the additional flowers in the right place. Here, I started with the pepperberry and some seeded eucalyptus.

Tip: Before placing any stem into your vase, give it a fresh cut with a knife or scissors. This will help it to drink up more water and keep it lasting longer.

Tips for Beautiful Fall Flower Arrangements #fallflowers #flowers #arragements #bouquet #autumn #blooms #homedecor #falldecor #decorating

Add Large Blooms

Next, I like to add in my largest blooms. I’m using the cafe au lait dahlia. This is one of my favorite flowers. In fact, I grew a ton of these in my garden this year and have been filling my home with them for the past couple of months.

One other thing to keep in mind as you are adding flowers is: how will this fall flower arrangement be viewed? Will it be up against a wall so you can only see the front? Will it be on the coffee table and thus be viewed from all sides? If it can be viewed from all sides, remember to turn your arrangement as you work.

Tips for Beautiful Fall Flower Arrangements #fallflowers #flowers #arragements #bouquet #autumn #blooms #homedecor #falldecor #decorating

Fill in with Smaller Blooms

With you’re larger focal flowers in place, you can fill in with smaller blooms. Here I’m using the rose and orange dahlias. I like to evenly spread these out throughout the arrangement and fill in any places that need color.

Varying your stem length and the direction you place your stem into the vase will allow you to disperse these throughout the arrangement.

Tips for Beautiful Fall Flower Arrangements #fallflowers #flowers #arragements #bouquet #autumn #blooms #homedecor #falldecor #decorating

Add Finishing Filler

One of my favorite parts is adding in some finishing filler as this really completes the arrangement. This step allows you to fill in any empty areas in your arrangement. It also allows you to add some height, wispy interest, and even some seasonal embellishments.

A couple of years ago I started using these preserved oak leaves in my fall flower arrangements and LOVED how it instantly made any arrangement look autumnal. It’s kind of my secret weapon. (Shh, it will be our little secret.) I purchased my preserved oak leaves HERE. In fact, I bought these last year and they still look just as fabulous this year.

If you want another example of how I did this, check out my Magical Candlelit Outdoor Tablescape from last year. That is still one of my favorite fall flower arrangements and was part of the inspiration for this one!

Fall Flower Arrangements Complete!

And with that, your fabulous fall flower arrangement is complete! Just remember to change your water every day or every other day. You can also recut your stems every few days to extend the life of your arrangement too.

Tips for Beautiful Fall Flower Arrangements #fallflowers #flowers #arragements #bouquet #autumn #blooms #homedecor #falldecor #decorating

Tips for Beautiful Fall Flower Arrangements #fallflowers #flowers #arragements #bouquet #autumn #blooms #homedecor #falldecor #decorating

I honestly couldn’t be happier with the results. I love the color combination, the beautiful blooms, the different textures, how the pepperberry cascades, and those oak leaves which seem to be the perfect finishing fall touch.

Now, I realize this is a rather large arrangement. Thankfully, I had enough flowers to create a few more, so that’s exactly what I did.

Remember when I was talking about using pitchers as vases? That is what I did for two of my additional arrangements. I created a medium-sized arrangement which I styled here on my kitchen counter.

Tips for Beautiful Fall Flower Arrangements #fallflowers #flowers #arragements #bouquet #autumn #blooms #homedecor #falldecor #decorating

I also set one up on the dry sink in my living room. This is an example of a fall flower arrangement where you won’t see the back, so more of the focus and interest is towards the front.

Tips for Beautiful Fall Flower Arrangements #fallflowers #flowers #arragements #bouquet #autumn #blooms #homedecor #falldecor #decorating

Finally, I styled an even smaller fall arrangement for my butler’s pantry. I love tucking a little flower arrangement here and I knew the colors would work perfectly. In this example, you can see how I used the red/maroon-colored oak leaves. That one simple tweak really changed the look of the arrangement.

Tips for Beautiful Fall Flower Arrangements #fallflowers #flowers #arragements #bouquet #autumn #blooms #homedecor #falldecor #decorating

And here’s a final look at the large arrangement. I think it looks fantastic here in my living room.

Speaking of my living room, stay tuned as I will be sharing a little tour of my cozy fall mantel decor in the coming days. You can sign-up for the Inspired by Charm Mailing List to make sure you don’t miss it.

I have been styling arrangements for years. As with most things, the more you do it the better you will become. I hope that these tips for creating dynamic and beautiful fall flower arrangements were helpful.

Shaved Brussels Sprout Salad

I have been wanting to make this Shaved Brussels Sprout Salad for years. Yes, years. There is a little Italian restaurant a few miles down the road from where I live and they used to have a Shaved Brussels Sprout Salad on their menu. It was love at first bite. The combination of flavors is just spot on. Here’s why:

  •  The brussels sprouts lend a fresh earthiness.
  • The apples and currants add a tart sweetness.
  • The pecorino Romano cheese is creamy and salty.
  • The pine nuts add crunch and toastiness.

See what I mean? The perfect combination!

This is a salad recipe that can be served all year long, but I especially love it in the fall when you can get delicious, in-season apples. Plus, because I feel like the fall is loaded with heavy, filling recipes, a bright and fresh salad is a welcomed addition.

I also love how easy this Shaved Brussels Sprout Salad is to put together. The only thing that takes a bit of time (but honestly not that long) is slicing up the Brussels sprouts. I prefer to do this by hand with a knife, but you could use a mandoline or food processor if you wanted. You can also purchase pre-sliced Brussels sprouts, but they don’t feel as fresh as I’d like for this particular recipe.

I’m happy to report that, even without the recipe from the restaurant, I was able to almost identically recreate this salad that I enjoy so much! I think this might become a staple in my refrigerator. It makes the perfect side for dinner and doubles as a healthy lunch recipe too.

Want to give it a try? Let me walk you through the recipe.

These Baked Pumpkin Donuts are one of my favorite fall sweet treats. Not only are these easy to make, but they are full of pumpkin spice flavor. You can serve them up for breakfast, a snack, or even dessert!

Baked Pumpkin Donuts

Homemade Baked Pumpkin Donuts #pumpkin #donuts #pumpkinspice #recipe #fallbaking #dessert #breakfast #brunch #doughnuts

You are in for a treat today! Friends, if I knew Baked Pumpkin Donuts were this easy, I would have been making them for years. This is now my favorite way to start the day. Coffee and donuts make me one happy man.

Donuts are one of my guilty pleasures, but I have yet to make a traditional deep-fried donut here on IBC. There’s something about tossing dough into boiling oil that kind of scares me. Maybe (with some encouragement from you) I’ll take the risk one of these days.

In the interim, I’m going to satisfy my donut craving sans oil. And since it’s fall, what’s better than baked donuts loaded with pumpkin spice?

Baked Pumpkin Donuts | inspiredbycharm.com

I’ll admit there’s a difference between baked donuts and their fried counterparts. However, this particular recipe truly captures the qualities you’ve come to love in a traditional donut. The soft, cakey interior is perfectly complemented by the crunchy cinnamon-sugar exterior.

How to Make Pumpkin Donuts:

Begin by preheating your oven to 350 degrees F. Spray your baking pan(s) with a nonstick cooking spray and set aside.

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, cloves, baking powder and salt.

Baked Pumpkin Donuts | inspiredbycharm.com

In a medium bowl, whisk together the pumpkin puree, milk, brown sugar, vegetable oil, egg, and vanilla.

Add the wet mixture to the dry. Stir with a spatula until just combined.

Scoop the batter into the muffin tray. The cavity should be almost completely filled. If you’re using a mini muffin pan to create donut holes, the dough should be rounded on the top.

I opted to make donut twists (unfortunately I can’t find a link to the pan I used anymore.)  and donut holes in a mini muffin pan. You can use what works best for you. Even a traditional donut pan would be great.

No matter what kind of pan you choose, make sure to mostly fill the cavity since these donuts don’t expand very much when baking. With the mini muffin pan, the dough should be slightly domed. This will give you the look of a donut hole.

Bake for 10-12 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean.

In a small bowl, prepare the cinnamon-sugar topping by mixing together the cinnamon and sugar.

Baked Pumpkin Donuts | inspiredbycharm.com

After a quick trip to the oven, you’ll want to let your donuts cool in the pan for about five minutes. While they are still warm, rub each donut with melted butter; then roll it in the cinnamon-sugar mixture.

You only need a little butter to get that cinnamon-sugary goodness to stick. Rubbing the butter on with your fingers or brushing on a thin coat of it works well.

Twin Guest Bedroom: The Before #bedroom #guestbedroom #makeover #before #desgin #decor

As I mentioned last week, there are lots of “befores” happening around here. I previously shared “before” images of my basement and queen guest bedroom. Today, I’d like to introduce you to my twin guest bedroom.

Twin Guest Bedroom: The Before #bedroom #guestbedroom #makeover #before #desgin #decor

Twin Guest Bedroom: The Before

This is one of two guest bedrooms in my house. This room measures 15 x 12. Since I moved in, which was roughly three years ago, I haven’t done much to either of my guest bedroom spaces other than add in some random furniture and accessories. They have been on my to-do list for years and I figured it was finally time to take some action.

Since this room is getting painted this week, I thought I better snap and share some before photos. (To be honest, though, I actually took these photos last year. I was planning on doing this room back then, but as you can see that didn’t happen. Ah, life!)

Twin Guest Bedroom: The Before #bedroom #guestbedroom #makeover #before #desgin #decor

Twin Guest Bedroom: The Before #bedroom #guestbedroom #makeover #before #desgin #decor

Are you curious about my plan for this room? I want to start off with a clean slate and some color, so everything is getting a fresh coat of paint. The walls are getting a color change and the trim is getting a fresh coat of white in a new sheen. The closet is getting a coat of paint too.

Once that is done, I’ll be free to rearrange and decorate. I’m working on a design plan right now and I’ll be sure to share that with you once it’s complete. If you want a little peek at some of my ideas, I have a Pinterest board for my entire house HERE. Feel free to have a look around. If you want to see this room specifically, you can find that organized into this section HERE.

I plan to keep the twin beds in this room. In fact, I found these bed frames specifically for this space. They were a FB Marketplace find from years ago when I first bought the house. I’m hoping to leave them as they are, but I may need to paint them as I’m not sure how the dark wood is going to look with my styling. Time will tell.

Twin Guest Bedroom: The Before #bedroom #guestbedroom #makeover #before #desgin #decor

Twin Guest Bedroom: The Before #bedroom #guestbedroom #makeover #before #desgin #decor

The goal for this room is to have it be fun and playful. I’ve been craving bold, smile-inducing tones lately, so this room will have punches of lively and joyful color.

You may have seen on Instagram (@inspiredbycharm) that in recent months I set up a little art studio in this room. in the prepping of this room for painting, I cleared everything out and gave my mini studio a temporary home in my office. I will just keep it there until its new and permanent basement studio home is complete. Phew! Lots of moving parts, but I am chugging along. One step at a time.

Twin Guest Bedroom: The Before #bedroom #guestbedroom #makeover #before #desgin #decor

And I think that’s it for now.

I know that these before-style posts aren’t all that exciting in and of themselves; however, what they represent is an exhilarating adventure and exciting change. We have to start somewhere, right?

Here’s to another fun makeover. Thanks for joining me!

Salted Caramel Pecan Sticky Buns #breakfast #stickybuns #buns #pastry #fallbaking #saltedcaramel #caramel #pecan #brunch

If you’re looking to bake an exceptional breakfast treat this autumn, then you need to add these Salted Caramel Pecan Sticky Buns to your fall baking list. These soft and fluffy cinnamon swirled buns topped with gooey salted caramel and pecans will be a winning dish for breakfast, dessert, or any time in your day.

Salted Caramel Pecan Sticky Buns

Yes, my friends, prepare your taste buds because I have a good one for you today: Salted Caramel Pecan Sticky Buns. My goodness, just typing the name makes me salivate. You are going to love this recipe and will be looking for any excuse to make it!

In other exciting news, this recipe is part of the Tastes of the Season series I participate in with some blogger friends. What does that mean? Well, that means there are a few more delicious fall breakfast treats linked at the end of this post. If you’re looking for more seasonal breakfast ideas, be sure to click through the links below to see what other treats these talented ladies whipped up.

And while I’ve made these Salted Caramel Pecan Sticky Buns for the fall, you can make them any time of the year. I’m a firm believer that salted caramel has no season; it’s for every season.

Now, I will tell you that this recipe involves yeast and some rising time, so prepare in advance. Also, please don’t let the yeast scare you off. Several years ago I used to be scared of it myself, but I quickly learned how it works and now it doesn’t phase me in the slightest. Plus, all the best doughy recipes involve yeast so the extra fussing is always worth it.

And if that doesn’t convince you, then these sticky buns will. One bite of that flaky but gooey dough covered with dripping salted caramel and pecans will surely do the trick.

Let me show you how to make them!

Kitchen Tools I Recommend for This Recipe:

Whether you’re wondering what equipment you’ll need for this recipe, curious about my favorite utensils, or if you’re just looking to stock your own kitchen, these are the kitchen tools I recommend for this recipe:

Want more? You can find the list of My Ultimate Kitchen Essentials HERE.

How to Make Salted Caramel Pecan Sticky Buns

In a saucepan over medium heat, begin by heating the milk, water, sugar, and 1/4 cup butter. Stir until warm (about 120 degrees F) and the butter is almost melted. (Do not boil. If the liquid is too hot it will kill the yeast.)

Transfer this mixture to a large bowl and stir in the yeast. Let sit for about 10 minutes to activate, then whisk in the egg and vanilla.

Salted Caramel Pecan Sticky Buns #breakfast #stickybuns #buns #pastry #fallbaking #saltedcaramel #caramel #pecan #brunch

Next, add in about 4 1/2 cups of flour and 1/2 teaspoon of salt. Mix until a dough forms. Then, knead the dough for about 8 minutes or until smooth and elastic. If the dough feels too sticky, add more flour as needed.

Transfer to an oiled extra-large bowl. Cover loosely with a kitchen towel or plastic wrap and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size. (About 1 to 1.5 hours.)

Salted Caramel Pecan Sticky Buns #breakfast #stickybuns #buns #pastry #fallbaking #saltedcaramel #caramel #pecan #brunch

In the meantime, spray two 9-inch round cake pans with baking spray and set them aside.

To create the topping, add the brown sugar and butter to a small saucepan. Cook and stir over medium heat until the sugar dissolves. (This will take about 5 minutes. Do not boil.) Stir in the heavy cream and 1/2 teaspoon salt and remove from the heat.

Divide the sauce equally between the two prepared cake pans. Sprinkle evenly with the chopped pecans.

Salted Caramel Pecan Sticky Buns #breakfast #stickybuns #buns #pastry #fallbaking #saltedcaramel #caramel #pecan #brunch

Once the dough has risen, divide it in half. Roll out each half into a 6 x 14-inch rectangle. For the filling, in a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar and cinnamon. Brush the 1/4 cup of melted butter evenly over the dough, then sprinkle evenly with the brown sugar and cinnamon mixture.

Salted Caramel Pecan Sticky Buns #breakfast #stickybuns #buns #pastry #fallbaking #saltedcaramel #caramel #pecan #brunch

Starting with a long side, roll each rectangle into a log.

Cut each log into 9 rolls. Arrange the rolls evenly in the pans prepared with the caramel and pecans. Each pan should have 9 rolls. Cover loosely and let the rolls rise in a warm area for about 30 minutes.

Salted Caramel Pecan Sticky Buns #breakfast #stickybuns #buns #pastry #fallbaking #saltedcaramel #caramel #pecan #brunch

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F. Place foil or baking sheet pans on the lower shelf of your oven as the caramel sauce will likely bubble over. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes or until browned and cooked through.

Immediately and carefully invert each pan onto a plate. Serve warm.

Salted Caramel Pecan Sticky Buns #breakfast #stickybuns #buns #pastry #fallbaking #saltedcaramel #caramel #pecan #brunch

While these Salted Caramel Pecan Sticky Buns are best served fresh out of the oven, I think they are just as delicious served at room temperature the following day. You could even heat them up in the oven or microwave if you want to serve them warm.

Pumpkin Spice White Russians #pumpkinspice #whiterussian #cocktail #fall #fallcocktail #pumpkin #recipe

Classic White Russian cocktails get a fall twist with the help of pumpkin spice. Garnished with a cinnamon stick, these Pumpkin Spice White Russians are a delicious, creamy, and seasonal libation.

Pumpkin Spice White Russians

I’m a big fan of White Russians. I especially love when there is a unique variation in their traditional flavor. In the past, I’ve made Peppermint White Russians, Chai Spiced White Russians, and Salted Caramel White Russians. In this post, I’m excited to add another to that list: Pumpkin Spice White Russians.

Pumpkin Spice White Russians #pumpkinspice #whiterussian #cocktail #fall #fallcocktail #pumpkin #recipe

Pumpkin Spice White Russians #pumpkinspice #whiterussian #cocktail #fall #fallcocktail #pumpkin #recipe

The recipe for these Pumpkin Spice White Russians came about in part thanks to this new-to-me liqueur called Mozart Pumpkin Spice. They are known for their chocolate liqueur but have branched out to include this new seasonal variety. It’s delicious on its own (you could totally serve it over vanilla ice cream too), and is especially wonderful in this cocktail as well.

Pumpkin Spice White Russians #pumpkinspice #whiterussian #cocktail #fall #fallcocktail #pumpkin #recipe

Side note: How beautiful are these rocks glasses? They are my new favorite. I linked them below in the “Kitchen Tools I Recommend for this Recipe” section.

Pumpkin Spice White Russians #pumpkinspice #whiterussian #cocktail #fall #fallcocktail #pumpkin #recipe

What is in a White Russian:

The standard list of ingredients for a classic White Russian is as follows:

  • coffee liqueur (I prefer Kahlua)
  • vodka
  • half and half (or cream)

For these Pumpkin Spice White Russians, I make two additions:

  • Mozart Pumpkin Spice
  • cinnamon stick

It’s really that simple. The pumpkin spice liqueur and the cinnamon stick add just the perfect amount of fall flavor and spice without being too much.

Ready to shake one up? Let’s do it!

Want more fall cocktail recipe ideas? I have a post dedicated to my FAVORITE FALL COCKTAILS. There’s something for everyone. You can find all of my favorite recipes HERE.

Queen Guest Bedroom: The Before #bedroom #guestbedroom #before #makeover #decor #wallpaper

It’s the start of another makeover which means it’s time for a look at the before. Join me as I give my guest bedroom a makeover.

Queen Guest Bedroom: The Before

Things are busy here at Bayberry House. It just so happens that all the projects I wanted to complete are happening at the same time. (Does anyone else’s life tend to work out that way or is it just me?) I’m working on my basement studio, a retaining wall is about to be installed in my backyard, and I’m painting/wallpapering two of my bedrooms. If that isn’t enough, I’m officially in the busyness of the fall and holiday season. Bring it on!

It’s one of those situations where I am ecstatic that all of this is happening, but at the same time, it also stirs up a big pot of things to manage and an overwhelming to-do list. I’ll just be riding the wave for the next couple of months.

As I mentioned above, I’m working on two of my bedrooms. In this post, I’m sharing the before of my Queen Guest Bedroom. I’m not sure how helpful, interesting, and/or useful these “Before” posts are, but I like seeing a story from start to finish so I figure it’s worth sharing.

Queen Guest Bedroom: The Before #bedroom #guestbedroom #before #makeover #decor #wallpaper

In case you were wondering, my house has five bedrooms. Here’s how I use them:

This guest room is the most used bedroom as this is where my mom stays and she’s typically here every month or so. It’s a nice-sized guest room measuring 13×11.

Other than the furnishings and refinished floors, this room looks the same as the day I moved in (same builder-beige walls and original light fixture, etc). It’s definitely time for this room to get a bit of my style and personality.

Queen Guest Bedroom: The Before #bedroom #guestbedroom #before #makeover #decor #wallpaper

Queen Guest Bedroom: The Before #bedroom #guestbedroom #before #makeover #decor #wallpaper

The layout of this room is slightly awkward. Due to the location of the doors and windows, the furniture placement is a little odd. The way things are set up now totally works, but I’m considering swapping the bed to the wall with the dresser to make the room just a bit more functional and spacious. We’ll see! I know that breaks “the rule” of where a bed should be when you walk into a room, but rules are made to be broken. Right?

The beginning items on my grand plan for this room are to give the trim a fresh coat of white paint and add wallpaper! Yes, wallpaper!

If you follow me on Instagram (@inspiredbycharm) you may have seen a little sneak peek of the paper. I came to this decision after talking to my mom about my desire to get things painted and freshened up. When I mentioned wallpaper, she offered a suggestion of one that she really liked, so that’s what I chose. Since she spends the most time in this space, why not pick something she loves?

Once the trim is painted and the wallpaper is up, I’ll start the process of decorating, swapping out the light fixture, etc. I want a bed frame, unique artwork, cozy bedding, and other fine details for this room to make the space a real retreat. It’s going to be fun.

Queen Guest Bedroom: The Before #bedroom #guestbedroom #before #makeover #decor #wallpaper

Queen Guest Bedroom: The Before #bedroom #guestbedroom #before #makeover #decor #wallpaper

I plan to take my time with this process. This is not going to be a weekend warrior makeover that’s done, decorated, and finished in two days. You know I love decorating with antiques, so naturally, I want to include some vintage pieces in my design. It usually takes time to find just the right thing, but in the end, it’s always worth it.

If you want a little peek at the design plan, I have a Pinterest board for my entire house HERE. Feel free to have a look around. If you want to see this room specifically, you can find it organized into this section HERE.

There you have it, the before of my Queen Guest Bedroom! I hope you enjoyed this little look into the space and are excited as I am for what’s to come! In my next post about this room, I’ll be sharing a bit more about my design plan for the space, so be on the lookout for that! I’ll also be posting a peek into my Twin Guest Bedroom soon.

As always, thanks for joining me on these decorating adventures!

Ready for a little fall decorating, but don’t want to spend an arm and a leg? No worries! I’m sharing more than a dozen inexpensive fall decorating ideas you can implement today! Let’s get decorating.

Inexpensive Fall Decorating Ideas

The fall (and soon-to-be holiday season) is upon us and that means I’m back with my Seasons of Home blogging friends. Every other week we will be sharing ideas to decorate and style your home for the season. We are kicking things off with budget-friendly and inexpensive fall decorating ideas. Once you scroll through my ideas here, be sure to visit all of the other bloggers I have linked at the end of this post. They are some talented ladies with fabulous and festive decorating inspiration. Instead of just focusing on one inexpensive fall decorating idea, I thought I would share some new ideas and others that I have implemented in the past.

This post comes at the perfect time because, as you might know, I have a lot of projects happening at my house right now, so my decorating budget is non-existent. Plus, my decor storage closet is at max capacity for holiday items. It’s not always feasible or smart to constantly buy new decor. That’s why this year I’m keeping it simple, using what I have, and focusing on several of these budget-friendly ideas. Let’s look at my list!

Vintage Finds

You might already know that I love decorating with vintage and antique decor. Because of their rustic and weathered look and feel, vintage finds lend themselves really well to fall. Think of an old wooden barn door, a rustic wood stool, an old wooden picnic basket, vintage bottles, etc. Here are a few ideas to show you what I mean.

1. Wooden Trays – Everything looks more purposeful and autumnal when styled on an old wooden tray. Before styling things like a coffee or console table, first, lay a wooden tray down, then do your styling to create a much more intentional and seasonal look.

2. Brass – Brass objects are another thing you’ll often find while thrifting and antiquing. Brass lends itself really well to the fall and holiday season. It adds warmth, shimmer, and that perfect golden fall color.

3. Seasonal Glassware – Vintage glassware is a must. Not only do I love the vintage designs, shapes, and colors, but it’s also so much cheaper than new glassware. I especially love to use it when I’m entertaining. It suits the season, and better yet, you don’t have to worry about breaking an expensive glass.

4. Amber Bottles– If you go into an antique store and don’t find at least one amber bottle, I’d be surprised. I love these for fall decor. Skip the expensive new ones in the store and buy an old one for just a couple of bucks.

Forage Your Yard

Yes, you can find fall decor inspiration right in your own backyard. Go foraging for pinecones, acorns, sticks, dried flowers, etc. You can even cut tree branches when they are bursting with color or use fall blooms that are just emerging.

1. Sweetgum Ball Wreath – You can make a wreath out of anything (seriously)! Think pinecones, acorns, dried leaves, or even just twigs. I have a sweetgum tree in my yard. It drops hundreds of these little balls. Last year I turned them into these adorable wreaths.

2. Dried Blooms – Go around your yard and snip any dried blooms or dead branches. Things like hydrangeas and grasses are perfect candidates. This year I even planned ahead and saved all of my allium blooms and added those to a display.

3. Colorful Branches – Cut one big colorful branch and stick it into an oversized vase filled with water. It’s that easy and it’s free! If you want to be able to use the branch year after year, check out these preserved branches. You will have to spend a bit of money here, but the color is beautiful and you can use them again after again.

4. Apples, Pumpkins, Gourds – Okay, so these might not be from your own yard (though they could be), but It’s always nice when your decor can serve two purposes. What I mean by this is choosing decor that you can use in multiple ways. For example, a bowl of apples adds color and a harvest feel, but also makes a delicious treat. A basket of squash is perfect for the season and can be used as an appetizer for Thanksgiving. See what I mean? In the end, it is like getting “two for the price of one” so it is quite budget-friendly.

Use What You Have

At the start of any new decorating adventure, the first place I “shop” is in my own home. Is there anything that you have that could suit the season and decorate your space? Below, I’ve shared a few ideas to get you started.

1. (Vintage) Books – I picked up a box of vintage orange books at an antique store for one dollar. They were such a good find and worked perfectly for my fall mantel. To start, I suggest taking a look at the books you have and then hitting up the thrift stores to fill in any blanks. Pro tip: Try removing the book jacket on your hardback books when putting them on display. The books themselves are usually so much prettier than the book jackets.

2. Blankets and Throws – Bust out all of your blankets and throws. As the weather cools, it’s nice to have these around. If possible, think about seasonal textures and patterns like cable knit, faux fur, plaids, tweed, houndstooth, etc. These textures and patterns will instantly create a cozy fall feel.

3. Candles and Candlesticks – I have a collection of black candlesticks. I’ve picked them up over the years whenever I could get them at a good price. Grouped together they add the perfect warmth and autumnal glow. Also, consider swinging by a dollar store to pick up some inexpensive candles that you can tuck into your amber jars. The color is gorgeous.

Get Crafty

I know that crafting can sometimes end up costing more than just going out and buying something. However, if you do some resourceful planning, crafts and DIY projects can be a great idea for inexpensive fall decorating. What I love about crafting is that you will ultimately create things that no one else will have in their home.

1. Vintage Fall and Halloween Graphics – There is an endless supply of free vintage graphics online. (One of my favorite places to find them is The Graphics Fairy.) You can print these out and use them in a variety of ways, and it’s totally free.* I’ve used them to create vintage-inspired treat bags, dancing skeleton artwork, and more.

*Generally speaking, if you’re using an image you found online, it should be for personal use only. I only source from royalty-free image sites to avoid any copyright issues. Paying attention to copyright rules and laws is a must.

2. Create Your Own Art – Grab an old board, a chalkboard, or any surface you can create on and make your own art. You can spell out your favorite fall saying, paint a pumpkin, or create a unique chalkboard design as I did here. The options are virtually endless. (And speaking of my chalkboard design, it’s available as a free printable HERE.)

3. Color-Wrapped Wheat Bundles – This might be my favorite fall project and it’s SO EASY. This colorfully wrapped wheat is an easy way to add beautiful and colorful detail to a rather basic decor item. I did this colorful version years ago. I loved this project so much that I repeated it last year with a more muted version. Use whatever colors suit your decor. Get the tutorial HERE.

Chocolate Chip Peanut Butter Bars

Do you ever have a craving for a soft chocolate chip cookie, but always want something a little extra/different? Well then, these Chocolate Chip Peanut Butter Bars might be exactly what you need. They are a classic peanut butter cookie bar made with oatmeal and chocolate chips that you can whip together in minutes.

It’s everything you love about a soft chocolate chip cookie and then some. The addition of oatmeal adds another layer of texture and the combination of peanut butter and chocolate will always be a favorite of mine.

These make a tasty stand-alone dessert or add something special to a cookie tray or dessert spread. No matter how you serve them, I have a feeling the only thing left will be crumbs.

Ready to give these Chocolate Chip Peanut Butter Bars a try? Let’s do it!

Apple Fritter Bread

Today I am beyond thrilled to be back with my Tastes of the Season blogger friends. Each of us is sharing one of our favorite fall apple-inspired recipes. As you’ve probably figured out, my contribution to this recipe fest is Apple Fritter Bread. At the end of this post, you’ll find four more incredibly tasty fall apple desserts that you’re also going to want to make.

Here on Inspired by Charm, we love quick bread. As I was looking through my recipe archives, I realized I didn’t have an apple-inspired quick bread, so I swiftly solved that by baking up this delicious Apple Fritter Bread. And it’s just in time for the fall season.

As much as I LOVE an apple fritter, they can be a bit daunting and time-consuming to make. (Still totally worth it though.) This Apple Fritter Bread is the perfect substitute for when that apple fritter craving strikes and you don’t have the time or energy for a more complicated recipe.

This bread is loaded with two cups of apples, ground cinnamon, rich brown sugar, and topped with sour cream-based icing. The creamy tanginess pairs beautifully with this loaf.

What I love about this quick bread (or any quick bread for that matter) is that you can serve it any time of the day. It’s a great sweet for breakfast, a wonderful addition to brunch, a satisfying afternoon treat, and even a simple after-dinner dessert.

Spread the remaining batter over the top, then top with the remaining apple mixture.

Gently pat the apples into the batter. Then use a butter knife to swirl the apples into the batter. (Two to three swirls are all you need.)

Bake for 55-60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. (Cover the loaf with foil for the last 15-20 minutes of baking to prevent over-browning.)

Cool in the pan on a wire rack for about 10 minutes. Then use the parchment paper to lift the loaf from the pan. Cool completely on a wire rack.

In the meantime, prepare the icing by whisking together the sour cream, vanilla extract, and powdered sugar. Add in the milk, 1 teaspoon at a time, to achieve a drizzling consistency.

Instructions

  • Begin by preheating your oven to 350 degrees F.
  • Line an 8 x 4 loaf pan with parchment paper and spray with baking spray. Set aside.
  • In a medium bowl, toss together the chopped apples, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Set aside.
  • In another medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  • In a large bowl, beat together the granulated sugar and butter until combined. Then, beat in the eggs one at a time. Next, beat in the milk and vanilla extract.
  • Add the flour mixture and stir with a spatula until just combined.
  • Add half of the batter to your prepared loaf pan, then top with half of the apple mixture.
  • Spread the remaining batter over the top, then top with the remaining apple mixture.
  • Gently pat the apples into the batter. Then, use a butter knife to swirl the apples into the batter. (Two to three swirls are all you need.)
  • Bake for 55-60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. (Cover the loaf with foil for the last 15-20 minutes of baking to prevent over-browning.)
  • Cool in the pan on a wire rack for about 10 minutes. Then, use the parchment paper to lift the loaf from the pan. Cool completely on a wire rack.
  • In the meantime, prepare the icing by whisking together the sour cream, vanilla extract, and powdered sugar. Add in the milk, 1 teaspoon at a time, to achieve a drizzling consistency.
  • Drizzle your loaf with the icing before slicing and serving.

Pumpkin Bread with Cream Cheese Swirl:

Glorious pumpkin quick bread is one of my favorite things to make when fall arrives. It’s quick, it’s easy, it fills the house with the best scent, and it tastes fabulous! One of my favorite recipes is this Really Good Pumpkin Bread. It’s a go-to.

However, one pumpkin quick bread is certainly not enough, so I decided to make and share another. Meet this Pumpkin Bread with Cream Cheese Swirl.

I’ve seen versions of this recipe floating around the internet for years. I’ve always wanted to try it, but I thought it was overdone so I avoided it. This year the craving was intense, so I gave in and whipped one up.

My goodness, am I ever glad I did. This Pumpkin Bread with Cream Cheese Swirl is a winner! I often get asked what I do with all of the delicious goodies I make. (I live alone so that’s a fair question.) Sometimes I give them away, sometimes I freeze them, and sometimes they (unfortunately) end up in the trash which is only because I know I can’t and/or shouldn’t eat a whole cake myself!

That being said, this was one prepared recipe I couldn’t get rid of and ended up enjoying almost every slice of it myself over the course of a week. It’s that good.

I love the rich pumpkin spice flavor married with a sweet but tangy layer of cream cheese. It’s almost like pumpkin cheesecake in a bread form (and way easier to make).

This is one you must try! Let me show you how to make it!

Basement Renovation: The Before #basement #renovation #makeover #thebefore #paneling #artstudio #studio

It’s time for a new project at Bayberry House! Welcome to the introduction of my basement renovation project!

There are some things you just don’t want to put on the internet. (My basement is one of those things.) Even so, my friend, I have to start somewhere. Things have to get (or in this case be) worse before they can be better.

It’s somewhat hard to believe that I purchased my current home over three years ago. Where has the time gone? During these three years, I have done quite a few large projects including a complete kitchen renovation, updated cabinetry in my entryway and living room, a new roof, a bedroom makeover, tons of landscaping, and so much more.

Well, it’s time to get started with another project: my basement.

I’ve wanted to refresh this space for quite some time; however, I wasn’t exactly sure what I wanted its purpose to be. Over the past year, I’ve gotten more into my art practice and so I’ve decided to turn this space into an art studio. Woot! Woot! At least, that’s what its main function will be. It will also double as needed storage and my laundry room.

The space is roughly 450+ square feet. It’s mostly been used as a dumping ground for stuff, so I can’t wait to turn it into a functional and beautiful space.

This renovation is on no set timeline. In fact, I assume it will take several months to get it functional and even more time to get it where I want it to be. I’m hoping that I’ll have a somewhat functioning space before the end of the year with the assumption that even more work will happen after that.

As much as I don’t want you to see my basement, I am going to give you a tour. Here we go.

Basement Renovation: The Before

I enter the space from my garage. My laundry room is on the right and the rest of the space is straight ahead and around the corner.

Basement Renovation: The Before #basement #renovation #makeover #thebefore #paneling #artstudio #studio

(Later in this post I’m going to go deeper into all the challenges and problems of this space. For now, I just want to show you what I’m working with.)

For the most part, all of the furnishings in this space will go (including the big black refrigerator).

Basement Renovation: The Before #basement #renovation #makeover #thebefore #paneling #artstudio #studio

The above image is looking back into the entryway area. (The laundry room would be on the left behind the wall with the handrail.)

The laundry room is rough but loaded with potential.

Basement Renovation: The Before #basement #renovation #makeover #thebefore #paneling #artstudio #studio

Beyond the laundry room is a set of stairs that lead up to my kitchen. Underneath the stairs is where I keep my litter boxes. You access them through a door in the laundry room.

Basement Renovation: The Before #basement #renovation #makeover #thebefore #paneling #artstudio #studio

Past the stairs is a large bar/peninsula which will be removed to make way for better storage and a studio sink. The furnace and hot water tank are in the small room behind the bar.

Basement Renovation: The Before #basement #renovation #makeover #thebefore #paneling #artstudio #studio

Basement Renovation: The Before #basement #renovation #makeover #thebefore #paneling #artstudio #studio

As you keep moving into the space, you’ll get to the largest open area of the room. This area has a brick fireplace, two large windows, a door to the backyard, and yes, …a lot more paneling. I plan to take advantage of all the space and this is where the bulk of my art studio will live.

Basement Renovation: The Before #basement #renovation #makeover #thebefore #paneling #artstudio #studio

Basement Renovation: The Before #basement #renovation #makeover #thebefore #paneling #artstudio #studio

And that completes our tour.

Now that you’ve seen what the space looks like, let me walk you through the challenges and my planned solutions.

BASEMENT RENOVATION: THE CHALLENGES

Low Ceilings
Thanks to social media, the folks that first lived in this home connected with me and gave me a little insight into the house. One of the things they mentioned is that when the house was built, the builder made a mistake and missed a layer of cinderblock making the ceilings in the basement really low. I’m 6’1″ and the ceilings are barely 6’2″. Also, the ceiling isn’t flat or a consistent height throughout either as there are plumbing and ductwork running everywhere. This makes for a really “unique” ceiling. For practical purposes, this is one challenge that I won’t be changing. I am just going to live with low/wonky ceilings.

Lighting:
Both the natural lighting and the overhead lighting are dismal. Since this is a basement, it doesn’t get a ton of natural light. Fortunately, it does get some and I want to capitalize on this thus bringing in all the natural light that I can. I also need to replace the existing lighting and have some new recessed lighting installed.

Basement Renovation: The Before #basement #renovation #makeover #thebefore #paneling #artstudio #studio

Drab:
While 1960s wood paneling is kind of making a weird comeback, the retro style is just not something I love. In this case, it makes the whole space feel dated, dark, and dirty. It’s also lacking a sense of personality, especially if I want to use this as a creative space.

Dirty and Dilapidated:
Generally speaking, the whole basement hits me as dirty and dilapidated. There are sections of the paneling that need replacing due to moisture and water damage. There are lots of holes and bad patching from 60+ years of repairs and maintenance.

Storage:
While there are lots of nooks and crannies for storage, everything is on display. Hidden storage, intentional storage, and more organization are a must.

Basement Renovation: The Before #basement #renovation #makeover #thebefore #paneling #artstudio #studio

BASEMENT RENOVATION: THE SOLUTIONS

Installing New Floors:
The current floors just need to be replaced. Many of the tiles are bubbled and they still feel/look dirty no matter how much I clean them. And to be honest, I’m just craving an updated look. I have a really fun plan for the floors that I can’t wait to share with you!

Painting Paneling:
The basement needs all the help it can get to be brighter and less cave-like. All of the paneling, walls, and ceiling will be painted white and the trim will be painted a mushroom/putty color (I think!). Before painting, any warped/peeling panels will be replaced, new baseboard wood trim will be installed, and any holes will be repaired, filled, and sanded smooth

Updating Lighting:
All of the overhead light is going to go and be replaced with new recessed lighting. Right now, there are only four lighting fixtures. The new plan calls for 16 new lights. This is going to illuminate the entire basement beautifully. The lights will also be on a dimmer switch so I can adjust them as needed.

Installing New Doors/Windows:
Just based on timing and logistics, I’m not sure this will happen right away, but in the near future, I want to replace the double windows with french doors and replace the single door with a large window. This will almost double the amount of possible natural light that can come into this space.

Basement Renovation: The Before #basement #renovation #makeover #thebefore #paneling #artstudio #studio

Updating Fireplace:
Can we talk about how amazing it is to have a fireplace in this space? I love it! I haven’t used this fireplace since I moved into the house, so it will be fabulous to get it working again. As you know, I love the exposed brick, and therefore, I have no intentions of painting it. However, I would love to get my carpenter here (the one that did my living room mantel and built-in entryway) to add in some interesting molding, a mantel, etc. I just want to clean the fireplace up and give it a bit more English cottage look (something like THIS or THIS). I assume this is another part of the renovation that will be pushed to a later date, but it’s fun to plan and dream.

Creating Functional Storage:
In my next Basement Renovation post, I will share some design plans and details to help you visualize things a bit more. Know that in this space, I want to add a large closet-type cabinet for hidden storage, updated open shelving, and cabinetry. Also, there is currently a sink in the bar, so I’m hoping to rework that into a large sink for art clean-up. There is a sink in the laundry room too, but I think it would be better to have a dedicated art sink. My goal is to use a mix of vintage furniture and cabinetry to create this storage.

Basement Renovation: The Before #basement #renovation #makeover #thebefore #paneling #artstudio #studio

Relocating Laundry Room:
My big, long-term plan is to move my laundry room upstairs, but that won’t happen until I plan my bathroom renovations and that’s still a couple of years away. So for right now, I just want to make this space look a bit cuter. I’m not 100% sure what that looks like yet, but I do know I want better shelving, a new sink, and a bit of decor and style. Maybe even incorporate some fun wallpaper.

Adding Additional Touches:
There are also be lots of other fun details, decor, work surfaces, etc. in the plans for this space that will really bring it to life.

BASEMENT RENOVATION: FINAL THOUGHTS

Phew! I think that about sums things up. There are many things to do, items to figure out, and lots to be excited about. A beautiful new space is on the horizon. I have started a board HERE on Pinterest if you want a sneak peek of some design ideas I have for the space.

I hope that after seeing and reading about this project you’re feeling as excited as I am for what’s to come. I have a feeling this will quickly become a space in which I spend a lot of my time.

Let’s do this!

It’s time for a new project at Bayberry House! Welcome to the introduction of my basement renovation project! There are some things you just don’t want to put on the internet. (My basement is one of those things.) Even so, my friend, I have to start somewhere. Things have to get (or in this case […]

Parmesan Ranch Snack Mix

I love a good snack mix (even if my waistline doesn’t). Snack mixes are great to have on hand if you’re expecting company, make a tasty addition to a road trip, or are a yummy way to take movie night to the next level. So many of you loved my Seasoned Pretzel Recipe that I wanted to create another seasoned snack for you to try with the hope that you will enjoy it too.

While this Parmesan Ranch Snack Mix can be enjoyed any time of the year, I feel like it’s giving off more of a fall vibe thanks in part to the sweet potato chips. Also, the color combination reminds me of autumn. Wouldn’t you agree?

Either way, the mash-up of snacks and seasonings in this snack mix is so wonderful. As I was taking the photos for this blog post, I found myself continuing to snack on way too many of these flavor-coated bites.

What makes them so good? Ranch and parmesan are the two main seasonings that I used. I did add a dash of cayenne as well, but this is totally optional. Then again, if you like things spicy, you can even add a bit more.

Now let’s get into the kitchen and whip up a batch of this Parmesan Ranch Snack Mix!
