Must-Try Fancy Cookies to Bake #cookies #baking #holiday #fancycookies #fancy #recipe #dessert

Looking for a treat that’s universally enjoyed, looks high-end, and is secretly not so hard to whip up? Look no further than these fancy cookies.

Must-Try Fancy Cookies to Bake #cookies #baking #holiday #fancycookies #fancy #recipe #dessert

Everyone loves cookies. They are easy to make, delicious, and versatile enough for just about any occasion! Cookies are the perfect treat to bake for a party or even just because it’s Monday. And yes, while basic chocolate chip cookies are nice, there are times you’ll want to step it up a notch.

In this article, we will go over a few of my favorite fancy cookie recipes and share some tips for baking perfect cookies every time. Every sweet tooth is sure to be satisfied (and impressed!).

What is a Fancy Cookie?

These fancy cookies are ones that look like they took a lot of time and energy to make. They might be iced, decorated with sprinkles or other fun toppings, shaped into fancy shapes, filled with jam, nuts, cream cheese…the sky is the limit! If you can dream it up in your head for a fancy cookie, it probably exists.

Orange-Almond Sugar Cookies #mushroom #cookie #christmas #holiday #recipe #sugarcookie #cutout #royalicing #orangealmond

While I love cookies of all kinds, (see dozens of cookie recipes here as evidence) there are times when I’ll step it up a bit. Whether that’s because I’m hosting a party, or just feel like getting some creative energy out, cookies that are a tiny bit “extra” will typically do the trick.

Top Tips for Making Fancy Cookies at Home

While I go into details on the instructions in each individual post linked below, I wanted to give you all some quick tips for how to have the best baking experience possible.

  1. Read the instructions fully before you begin. It’s best to be prepared ahead of time so you can pace yourself and be ready for what step comes next. I highly encourage any baker to read the entire recipe through at least once before getting started!
  2. Use the best ingredients possible. I really want everyone to be successful at making fancy cookies and desserts. That starts with the ingredients. Use the very best ingredients that you can get your hands on, especially when it comes to flavoring agents (such as vanilla extract ) and things like food dye and sprinkles. It really does make a difference!
  3. Measure your ingredients precisely. Baking is much more of a science than an art. If you start guestimating and tossing in random amounts of flour and sugar, you are probably going to be disappointed. Pull out your measuring cups and measuring spoons and be precise!

Tools You May Need to Make Fancy Cookies

The exact tools you will want to reach for will vary depending on the exact recipe you are making. But these are the go-to staples that I recommend every aspiring baker keep on hand. After all, you never know when you need to whip up a batch of fancy cookies.

How to make Cream Horn Cookies for the holidays!

14 Must-Make Fancy Cookies

Okay, on to the good part…the recipes! I’ve included some fancy cookies for almost every occasion and taste. I hope you find a recipe (or three) to inspire your next fancy cookie creation.

1. Italian Sprinkle Cookies

A few of my favorite things come together in this classic sugar cookie spin. The base is a soft sugar cookie in ball form that has been dipped in glaze then topped with pretty sprinkles.

How to Make Italian Sprinkle Cookies also known as Italian Wedding Cookies #sprinkle #cookies #italianweddingcookies #nonpareils #cookie #recipe #sprinklecookies

This is a great beginner’s fancy cookie. The steps aren’t complicated but they look (and taste) amazing.

2. Gingerbread Christmas Tree Cookies

This is an elevated take on a typical gingerbread cookie. Personally, I have way more fun “decorating” the tree than I do the little gingerbread man.

Christmas Tree Gingerbread Cookies #christmas #gingerbread #cookies #gingerbreadcookies #holiday #holidaybaking #recipe #royalicing

These fancy cookies are perfect for holiday parties, but I’d highly recommend making a practice run first. The cookie itself isn’t too hard, but the royal icing topping can be a bit tricky. I promise the effort is worth it though.

3. Orange Almond Sugar Cookies

There is so much this cookie has going for it. First of all, it’s absolutely adorable, as you can see.

Orange-Almond Sugar Cookies #mushroom #cookie #christmas #holiday #recipe #sugarcookie #cutout #royalicing #orangealmond

But, what I wish these photos could show you is just how incredible these cookies taste. Basic sugar cookie dough gets a major flavor boost with zested orange and almond extract. Believe me, these taste even better than they look, which is saying something.

4. Lemon Sandwich Cookies

Anyone else a huge lemon fan? I make these several times a year, particularly throughout the spring and summer seasons.

Delicious Lemon Sandwich Cookie with Lemon Cream Filling #lemon #cream #sandwich #cookie #recipe #dessert

In this fancy cookie recipe, homemade lemon thins are filled with a DIY lemon cream. The combination of thin, crispy cookies and the creamy filling will make your tastebuds sing. Every single bite is bursting with bright, zesty lemon flavor!

5. Linzer Cookies

Linzer cookies are a classic Christmas cookie that I grew up eating. The cookie itself is flakey and buttery, but what makes these next-level is the jam filling.

Delicious Recipe for Christmas Linzer Cookies #linzer #cookies #raspberry #recipe #christmas #holiday #cookie #holidaybaking

The bottom cookie is a solid circle, while the top has a festive cut-out shape where the jelly peeks through. Top the whole thing off with a healthy dusting of powdered sugar, and watch the compliments roll in!

6. Pumpkin Spice Latte Cookies

If you are a PSL fan, give these cookies a try! But unlike the Starbucks version, these cookies actually taste like pumpkin. #sorrynotsorry

These Frosted Pumpkin Cookies are the perfect fall dessert recipe! #fallbaking #pumpkinspice #latte #cookie #cookies #dessert #pumpkin

These soft, cakey cookies are made with canned pumpkin and a blend of fall spices. But don’t forget about the “latte” part—you’ve got to try the espresso icing on these fancy cookies. It’s to die for!

7. Egg Hunt Easter Cookies

These Easter cookies are a tasty way to celebrate spring! “Grass” frosting is made on top of a round sugar cookie with a piping tip, then topped with chocolate eggs.

Adorable and Delicious: Egg Hunt Easter Cookies #dessert #easter #cookies

This dessert is perfect for any child or adult who loves to indulge in sweet treats on the holidays. They look awesome on your Easter dinner table, too!

8. Cream Horns

Also known as Lady Locks, creamed horn cookies are a Pittsburg staple around the holidays. More importantly, making these fancy cookies is a family tradition on my dad’s side of the family. I grew up eating these and am super excited to share the recipe with you all too!

Cream Horn Cookies (Lady Locks) recipe

These cookies look impressive (and they certainly are), but they aren’t super hard to make. I walk you through every single step in the post!

I also made these into a pumpkin spice creamed horn version if you’d like to give this a fall twist.

9. Stuffed Peanut Butter Cup Cookies

On the surface, these may seem like ordinary peanut butter cookies with a chocolate drizzle. But the magic happens once you sink your teeth in!

These Stuffed Peanut Butter Cup Cookies are an easy and delicious cookie recipe. #fall #fallbaking #fallcookieweek #peanutbutter #chocolate #peanutbuttercup #recipe

In the center of each cookie is a peanut butter cup that’s baked in. If you are a fan of chocolate and peanut butter, you’ve got to make this cookie ASAP. Just be warned, you’ll want to eat up the entire batch in one sitting!

10. Ugly Sweater Sugar Cookies

Even though I named these “ugly sweater cookies”, there is nothing at all ugly about them. This is definitely a fun cookie to make but decorating them takes time and patience.

Sweater Weather Sugar Cookies - Best Christmas Cookies recipes #christmas #cookie #recipe #uglysweater

If you are looking for a fancy cookie recipe to bring to your holiday party that will get people talking, this one fits the bill!

11. Cream Wafer Sandwich Cookie

These fancy cookies are near and dear to my heart! In fact, this is my favorite cookie recipe of all time, hands down. Two light, flaky cookies are sandwiched together with a generous dollop of sweet buttercream icing. My mouth is watering just thinking about it!

Cream Wafer Sandwich Cookies #creamwafer #sandwichcookie #cookie #christmas #holiday #christmascookie #holidaybaking

I also love the versatility of this recipe. While I originally developed it as a Christmas recipe, I’ve made it several times throughout the year for other holidays. All you have to do is swap out the icing color. You can even experiment with different cookie shapes too.

If you only make one cookie from this list…this is the winner!

12. Dulce de Leche Chocolate Sandwich Cookies

I don’t make that many chocolate cookies, but these are absolutely fantastic. With a dash of cinnamon and cayenne pepper for added warmth (trust me on this one), this cookie is anything but basic.

Dulce de Leche Chocolate Sandwich Cookies combine spiced chocolate cookies and rich dulce de leche for a delicious fall dessert. #dulcedeleche #chocolate #cookie #dessert #recipe

My favorite part, though, has to be the dulce de leche filling. If you haven’t had dulce de leche before, just think of a richer, thicker version of caramel. It’s absolutely delicious, and oh-so-easy to make.

13. Peanut Butter and Jelly Thumbprint Cookies

If you love the classic combination of peanut butter and jelly, you will be all about this cookie. It’s called a thumbprint cookie because you literally use your thumb to make a well in the cookie. Then, fill it up with the jelly of your choosing and bake.

A classic flavor combination in cookie from - Peanut Butter and Jelly Thumbprint Cookies #peanutbutter #jelly #cookie #recipe

To fancify this cookie even more, it gets a peanut butter icing drizzle once it’s done baking. Yum!

14. Pistachio Shortbread Fancy Cookies with Dark Chocolate Filling

Typical shortbread cookie dough gets a major upgrade here with chopped pistachios. The dough itself is absolutely lovely, and the pistachios add delicious crunch and depth of flavor.

Pistachio Shortbread Cookies with Dark Chocolate Filling #pistachio #shortbread #cookie #dessert #recipe #chocolate

But we won’t stop there. This fancy cookie gets another upgrade with dark chocolate filling! Trust me, this salty-sweet cookie ticks all the boxes.

That’s a Wrap on Fancy Cookies!

So, there you have it! 15 decidedly fancy cookies that will wow your friends and make your gatherings extra special. Which one will you try first? Happy baking!

Red and Cozy Christmas Tree Decorating Ideas #christmastree #christmas #holiday #tree #cozy #treedecorations #decorations

Let’s decorate another Christmas Tree! I’m inviting you back into my holiday home to take a look at my Red and Cozy Christmas Tree and to share some new Christmas Tree decorating ideas! (I’m also sharing a little peek at the rest of my family room Christmas decor too!)

Red and Cozy Christmas Tree Decorating Ideas

I’ve managed to decorate one of my three Christmas trees and I couldn’t be more excited to share it with you today. This is the tree in my family room. For the past three years, this tree has been decorated with a red theme, so I decided to keep with the tradition for another year.

Speaking of holiday decorating, I’m also back with my Seasons of Home blogger friends. The theme for this week is “Holiday Home Tour.” Some of us are sharing a full home tour, others are sharing a single space, and some of us (pointing a finger at myself) are sharing Christmas tree decorations. I hope you’ll take the time to click through all of the inspiring and festive posts I’ve linked below.

Red and Cozy Christmas Tree Decorating Ideas #christmastree #christmas #holiday #tree #cozy #treedecorations #decorations

It also recently came to my attention that I rarely share photos of myself on the blog. I’m going to try and be better about that, so here’s a picture of Leo and I!

Onto the tree!

My Red and Cozy Christmas Tree:

Before I get into all of the nitty-gritty details, let’s take a look at my latest tree!

What do you think? I couldn’t be more pleased with the way it came together. If you’ve seen my tree in this room before, you will realize that the look is similar, but also different.

This year when I first began decorating this tree, I started off with an entirely different concept. If you’re following me on Instagram (@inspiredbycharm) you may even have had a sneak peek at its initial look. I originally thought I would do a mix of everything and go for a really colorful and eclectic tree, but there was something about it that just didn’t strike me. It was a bit too much and honestly, it made me feel a bit anxious. So I trusted my gut, did some editing, and settled on this fabulous Red and Cozy Christmas Tree.

As I mentioned above, since I’ve been in this house, I’ve been doing a variation of this design in my family room each year. I’m sure that one of these days I’ll break from the red, but for now, I just love the color in here. It feels like Christmas to me and that’s the point after all!

If you want to see some of the other variations of this tree, you can find those here:

In general, my entire decorating theme for this year has been taking the things I love from past years, and while keeping some of the details, tweaking the look with new items. This is exactly what I did with the living room mantel that I shared last week.

This feels like a much more manageable approach for Christmas decorating rather than starting completely new every year.

Let’s take a closer look at some of the details.

Red and Cozy Christmas Tree Decorations:

I mostly used decorations I had on hand to create this Red and Cozy Christmas Tree, but there are a few new and notable additions.

Red and Cozy Christmas Tree Decorating Ideas #christmastree #christmas #holiday #tree #cozy #treedecorations #decorations

First, the actual tree is a new design from Balsam Hill. It’s their 7ft Nordmann Fir tree with white Candlelight Clear LEDS. I’m loving how realistic this tree looks, especially the top!

Red and Cozy Christmas Tree Decorating Ideas #christmastree #christmas #holiday #tree #cozy #treedecorations #decorations

One of my favorite new additions is these mini stockings from Penny and Ivy. There are 25 of these mini stockings on the tree and they were all handmade by Emily of Penny and Ivy. Each of these stockings is unique and special. I was marveling at the detail on each one as I hung them on the tree. I especially love the little numbered tags. It’s all in the details! If Penny and Ivy is new to you, be sure to check out Emily’s site HERE. You can also find her on Instagram @pennyandivy to stay informed of her shop updates.

I also purchased this adorable bird ornament from Kim Myers Smith. It’s actually an original mini oil painting and I couldn’t love it more. Following Kim’s art journey has been such a joy and I’m honored to have been able to purchase one of her paintings for my tree.

Red and Cozy Christmas Tree Decorating Ideas #christmastree #christmas #holiday #tree #cozy #treedecorations #decorations

For something different, I tucked in these jumbo pinecones that I found HERE. I love how they look nestled into the tree.

And as I mentioned above, the rest of the ornaments were items I had in my collection. Even the ribbon that I used, which is a favorite of mine, was the same ribbon I used a couple of years ago on my Cozy Lodge Christmas Tree.

Speaking of ribbon, I have an entire blog post (and video) dedicated to showing you how I add ribbon to my Christmas trees. You can find that HERE.

Red and Cozy Christmas Tree Decorating Ideas #christmastree #christmas #holiday #tree #cozy #treedecorations #decorations

I also wanted to point out my “under the tree” decorations. This has become one of my favorite little areas to decorate in recent years and this tree was no exception.

Red and Cozy Christmas Tree Decorating Ideas #christmastree #christmas #holiday #tree #cozy #treedecorations #decorations

As usual, I tucked in some wrapped presents, ribbon, and even a picnic basket, but the big showstopper is my new-to-me vintage Campfire Marshmallows tin. These are highly coveted and I’ve been l looking for one for years. Well, as you can see, I finally found one and I am thrilled with how it looks under the tree.

I also included a couple of my vintage Scotch tape tins. I think they look so perfect! In fact, vintage touches are a must for my Christmas decor. You can read about some other ways I decorate with vintage Christmas decor HERE.

While these under-the-tree decorations may not be necessary, I think they add a special touch and complete the look of the tree. I also secretly love how I can use these items to conceal the base of the tree and hide the many wires and extension cords.

Want to see more of my tree decorating ideas from Christmases past? I have an entire blog post where I share 20+ of my Christmas tree designs. You can find that HERE. I hope it serves as inspiration as you decorate your own tree.

More Family Room Christmas Decor:

I’m still finalizing some of the other décors in this space, but here’s a little peek at the rest of the room including a look at my Putz House Inspired Mantel. I’m really loving how it’s coming together and can’t wait to share more!

Ready to fill your home with holiday cheer? These 15+ homemade Christmas decorations will dress up your tree, living room, dining room, and anywhere else you want to add a bit more joy.

Unique Homemade Christmas Decorations #christmas #holiday #decorations #DIY #handmade #decor #craft

The options are seemingly endless when it comes to Christmas crafts. Everyone knows about homemade wreaths and snowflakes, but what about dining room decor or mantle decorations?

These handmade holiday decorations are anything but cheesy. I’m highlighting crafts that will fit in any home and can be enjoyed by everyone. Grab a friend or two and start creating!

Homemade Christmas Decorations Tips

Before we get to the list of lovely decorations, I have some tips and tricks that I believe will help you out. I found most of these out through trial and error, so I hope they save you some time and effort.

Stick to a Color Theme

If you are going to display the decorations throughout your home, it’s best to unify everything with a common color theme. All of the ideas in this list are easy to customize. Pick out ribbons or paint the wood the perfect color so that everything flows really well together.

You don’t have to stick to a common theme, but I know how amazing it will look if you do.

Even more fun, you can customize them so that they match your current home decor perfectly. Whether you want your entire home ensconced in blue and white this holiday season, or if you prefer something a bit brighter you can make your decorations with those hues. That way your home looks festive but seamless.

Host a Crafting Party

Homemade holiday decorations are so much fun to create, particularly with loved ones. You can even host a craft party for your DIY Christmas decorations and make a bunch of them all at once with friends.

All you need are some crafting supplies, cocktails, and snacks. Here are some of my favorite Christmas entertaining ideas to get you started.

Plus, sharing crafting supplies with one another is a great way to save money on homemade Christmas decorations. You can also just buy bulk craft supplies with someone else and split them up when they arrive.

Organize Your Supplies by Project

Getting creative can create a bit of a mess. To prevent your craft supplies from taking over your creative space, place each work in progress in its own tub or bin. Then, you have everything you need in one contained space when you are ready to finish the project.

Cherry cookie dough and almond cookie dough are swirled together to create these light, crisp, and flavorful Cherry Almond Pinwheel Cookies. If you’re looking to add color, pattern, and festive flavor to your holiday cookie trays, these will do the trick!

Cherry Almond Pinwheel Cookies

Are you ready for another Christmas cookie recipe? Well, ready or not, I have one to share with you! In this post, we’re making Cherry Almond Pinwheel Cookies.

If you’ve been paying close attention to my posts, you might remember that I shared a pinwheel cookie recipe last Christmas. Well, I also wanted to make this recipe at that time, but that didn’t get accomplished. That’s why I made sure to make these cookies as early as I could this year.

As you can see, the swirled pattern and bold color on these Cherry Almond Pinwheel Cookies are so eye-catching. I’ve always been intrigued and attracted to this design and pattern. Therefore, some version of these cookies has become a must make.

I also LOVE the combination of cherry and almond. I’ve made a few recipes inspired by this flavor combination. Two of my favorites are these Cherry Almond Shortbread Cookies and this Cherry Almond Oatmeal. So good!!

Now, before we get into this recipe, I want to mention that these do take time time to make. To keep those sharp layers, it’s really important that the dough be chilled. Consequently, there are several instances where the dough must be returned to the refrigerator. I recommend working on another cookie recipe at the same time or speeding up the process by using the freezer.

How to Make Cherry Almond Pinwheel Cookies:

In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside. I’ve provided a full list of the ingredients and detailed recipe instructions in a printable recipe card below.

In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Then, beat in the egg and vanilla. Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter mixture. Mix to combine.

Divide the dough in half. To one of the halves, add the cherry extract and red gel food coloring. To the other half, mix in the ground almonds. Wrap each half in plastic wrap and chill until firm: about 2-3 hours.

Between 2 sheets of wax paper, roll each portion of dough into an 8×15 rectangle. Place on a cookie sheet and chill for 30 minutes.

Remove the wax paper from both, placing the almond rectangle on top of the cherry rectangle. Starting with a long side, roll up the dough tightly. Then, roll in coarse sugar and chill again for about 1-2 hours or until firm.

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F.

Cut the dough log into 1/4-inch slices. Place 2 inches apart on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Bake for 8-10 minutes or until set. The bottom of these cookies can burn quickly. (I learned this the hard way.) Keep an eye on them near the end of their baking time in order to prevent burnt bottoms.

As I mentioned above, these Cherry Almond Pinwheel Cookies do take time but the results are totally worth it. I think these make a delicious addition to your Christmas spread thanks to their color and unique flavor.

How to Make a Marshmallow Wreath #marshmallowwreath #christmas #holiday #diy #handmade #craft #wreath #christmaswreath

Grab a few bags of marshmallows, a wreath form, and some toothpicks because I’m teaching you how to make a fabulous, festive, and fluffy marshmallow wreath!

How to Make a Marshmallow Wreath #marshmallowwreath #christmas #holiday #diy #handmade #craft #wreath #christmaswreath

DIY Marshmallow Wreath:

Back in 2014, I crafted my first marshmallow wreath. It was one of those impromptu late-night projects that I created out of passion and for which I failed to write any sort of tutorial. (Oops!) Flash forward to 7 years later and after many, many requests, I’m finally bringing you this Marshmallow Wreath tutorial!

How to Make a Marshmallow Wreath #marshmallowwreath #christmas #holiday #diy #handmade #craft #wreath #christmaswreath

That OG marshmallow wreath that I made back in 2014 has since been put to rest. I made the horrible mistake of putting it in my attic and it melted into a sticky mess that could not be saved. (FYI: Do not be like me. If you make this wreath, store it in a dry, even temperature location.)

I was kind of bummed about it and my mom came to the rescue and surprised me by making one for me as a Christmas gift two years ago. Here is the one she made:

How to Make a Marshmallow Wreath #marshmallowwreath #christmas #holiday #diy #handmade #craft #wreath #christmaswreathFestive Christmas Kitchen Decor Ideas #christmas #kitchen #decor #decorating #ideas #holiday

As you can see, this one is a bit bigger than my original wreath.

Looking for More Festive Wreath to craft? Try these:

Because I wanted to show you the process from start to finish, I decided to make another marshmallow wreath. I went a bit smaller than the previous two. This way I could share the process with you, and also make something a little different.

How to Make a Marshmallow Wreath #marshmallowwreath #christmas #holiday #diy #handmade #craft #wreath #christmaswreath

Sound good?

Before we get into the tutorial, it’s worth mentioning that this wreath is really easy to make. I mean REALLY easy. Also, depending on the size of the wreath, I think it comes together quickly. If you have a good hour to dedicate to it, that’s probably an adequate amount of time.

With all this being said, I will get to the heart of things and teach you how to make a marshmallow wreath.

How to Make a Marshmallow Wreath #marshmallowwreath #christmas #holiday #diy #handmade #craft #wreath #christmaswreath

How to Make a Marshmallow Wreath:

Supplies:

How to Make a Marshmallow Wreath #marshmallowwreath #christmas #holiday #diy #handmade #craft #wreath #christmaswreath

Start with your wreath form. You can use any size you like. This is a 10-inch form. (It’s likely not needed, but I did include a printable version of this tutorial below if you’d like to print it out to reference as you work.)

Grab your marshmallows and toothpicks. For this size wreath, I needed almost 3 standard-sized bags of marshmallows and I used standard double-sided toothpicks.

How to Make a Marshmallow Wreath #marshmallowwreath #christmas #holiday #diy #handmade #craft #wreath #christmaswreath

Starting with the outer edge of the wreath, press a toothpick into the wreath form, and then add a marshmallow to the toothpick. (I told you this was easy.) The toothpick should be in the wreath far enough so that it doesn’t stick out of the opposite end of your marshmallow.

How to Make a Marshmallow Wreath #marshmallowwreath #christmas #holiday #diy #handmade #craft #wreath #christmaswreath

Continue working all the way around the outer edge until it is full. I like to place the marshmallows pretty close together for a filled-in look. You can add the marshmallows in any direction you’d like. For my wreath, I varied the direction for a more whimsical look. In regards to the wreath my mom made, she was pretty consistent with how she placed the marshmallows so the wreath looks a bit tidier. Choose whichever look you like best.

With the outer ring of the wreath complete, repeat the same process in the inner ring.

How to Make a Marshmallow Wreath #marshmallowwreath #christmas #holiday #diy #handmade #craft #wreath #christmaswreath

Once you have the outside and inside of the wreath complete, just start filling in. I recommend filling in one area and working your way around the wreath until you end up back where you started.

How to Make a Marshmallow Wreath #marshmallowwreath #christmas #holiday #diy #handmade #craft #wreath #christmaswreath

Once the wreath is full and filled, add on a ribbon and a bow and hang that beauty up.

You can find the ribbon I used HERE. I think this red and white striped ribbon pairs perfectly with the marshmallows. If for some reason that is sold out, check out these HERE and HERE.

How to Make a Marshmallow Wreath #marshmallowwreath #christmas #holiday #diy #handmade #craft #wreath #christmaswreath

Now, I will say that the toothpicks are not foolproof. You are likely going to have a rogue marshmallow or two, especially once you hang it. When this happens, pull out your hot glue gun and glue those marshmallows into place. I had about 3-4 marshmallows that were being stubborn on this particular wreath. After using a few dabs of hot glue, I’ve had no other issues.

And that is it my friends! I told you this was a simple project.

How to Make a Marshmallow Wreath #marshmallowwreath #christmas #holiday #diy #handmade #craft #wreath #christmaswreath

I think the end result is so cute and perfect for holiday decorating. Don’t you? I typically hang mine in or near my kitchen, but it will look fabulous anywhere.

Also, you can keep this for years and years as long as you don’t store it in an extremely hot attic as I did. Keep it dry and at a stable temperature and all will be well. The marshmallows will harden over time but they will keep their shape and fluffiness for years.

Festive, fun, and kissed with peppermint flavor, these Peppermint Candy Cane Cookies are a delightful nibble to add to your Christmas cookie platter. They may even become a new holiday favorite!

Peppermint Candy Cane Cookies

In recent years, I have developed a love of peppermint in sweet treats and cookies. Peppermint wasn’t something I was a fan of before, but now I can’t get enough of it. This makes me excited to add these Peppermint Candy Cane Cookies to IBC’s Christmas cookie collection!

I have been waiting to make a candy cane-style cookie for years, so I’m glad to finally cross it off my list. They are everything I hoped they would be and then some!

What made these Peppermint Candy Cane Cookies even more special is that I got to make them with my mom. She visited this past weekend and we worked on a few recipes together. When I was growing up, my mom and I would always spend a day making sugar cookies with my “gram.” My Mom would bake the cookies, my gram would add the frosting, and I would decorate them. It was nice to relive this tradition in a new way.

Baking Christmas cookies is still one of my favorite holiday activities. I have shared dozens of Christmas cookie recipes here on IBC. You can find a collection of my must-make favorite recipes HERE.

If you’ve never made a candy cane cookie like these, I definitely recommend giving them a try! And if you want a quick tip before we start baking, I highly recommend THIS gel food coloring. Once I discovered it, it’s the only food coloring I will use. It always creates such vibrant colors.

Now let’s bake!

In the bowl of a stand mixer, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add in the egg, peppermint extract, vanilla extract, and salt. Mix to combine.

Add the flour to the butter mixture and mix until combined.

Divide the dough in half. Wrap one piece in plastic wrap and place it in the refrigerator to chill. Divide the other piece into half again. Add green food coloring to one portion of the dough and red food coloring to the other portion. (I highly recommend THIS gel food coloring.) Wrap each dough separately in plastic wrap and then place them in the refrigerator to chill. The dough should be chilled for about 2 hours.

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F. Divide the plain dough into 36 equal portions. Then, divide the red and green dough into 18 portions each. Roll each portion of all the doughs into a 4-inch rope.

Place a colored rope next to a plain rope, press together gently, then twist. Curve the dough at the top to create a candy cane shape. Repeat with the remaining ropes of dough. Place 2 inches apart onto an ungreased baking sheet.

Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the bottom edges of the cookie just start to turn golden brown and the cookie is set. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for about one minute before removing and placing them on a wire rack to cool completely.

Peppermint Candy Cane Cookies #peppermint #candycane #cookies #christmas #holiday #baking #christmascookie

Melt the chocolate chips in the microwave by heating in 30-second intervals. Stir between each interval. Continue heating and stirring until smooth. Dip the ends of the cooled cookies into the melted white chocolate. Place on a piece of wax paper and sprinkle with coordinating crushed peppermint candies.

Once the chocolate is set, store the cookies in an airtight container.

As you can see, the resulting cookies are truly festive! They taste delicious too. (You’ll have to trust me on that one until someone develops taste-o-vision.)

I hope you enjoy these Peppermint Candy Cane Cookies! Happy Baking!

Winter Wonderland Christmas Mantel #christmas #mantel #decor #idea #holiday #winterwonderland #decorating #garland

Welcome to my Winter Wonderland! I’m excited to welcome you back into my home for the 2021 Christmas Season. Let’s start in my living room with my Winter Wonderland Christmas Mantel.

Winter Wonderland Christmas Mantel #christmas #mantel #decor #idea #holiday #winterwonderland #decorating #garland

Winter Wonderland Christmas Mantel

Woot! Woot! I’m officially kicking off a new season of holiday decorating on the blog today. It’s been mostly Christmas recipes up until now, but today I’m bringing on the decor.

And, if you’re looking for more mantel decorating inspiration, I’m back with my Season of Home blogger friends who are all sharing mantel decor ideas. Be sure to check out the links below and click through to see all of their beautiful spaces.

Winter Wonderland Christmas Mantel #christmas #mantel #decor #idea #holiday #winterwonderland #decorating #garland

Christmas Mantel Decorating Ideas:

Truth be told, I LOVED how I decorated the mantel in my living room last year (I mean, LOVED!). In fact, HGTV loved it too and it ended up in their December issue! Say what!? I still can’t believe it! (I’ve shared a picture below.)

Winter Wonderland Christmas Mantel #christmas #mantel #decor #idea #holiday #winterwonderland #decorating #garland

Consequently, doing something different with it this year was really tough. Because I was so pleased with last year’s design, when I started to think about decorating my mantel for this year, I just wanted to put everything right back where it was to recreate last year’s look. However, I do like to keep pushing myself and trying new things, so I came up with a bit of a compromise: I would keep some things the same, and do some things differently.

Side Note: I should also mention, I have a post here on Inspired by Charm with many of my holiday mantels from Christmases past. You can find that post HERE for lots of ideas and inspiration.

Christmas Mantel: What’s the same and what’s different?

First, here’s how the mantel looks this year:

Winter Wonderland Christmas Mantel #christmas #mantel #decor #idea #holiday #winterwonderland #decorating #garlandWinter Wonderland Christmas Mantel #christmas #mantel #decor #idea #holiday #winterwonderland #decorating #garlandWinter Wonderland Christmas Mantel #christmas #mantel #decor #idea #holiday #winterwonderland #decorating #garland

While I kept the greens of the garland the same and in the same spot, this year I added in silver ball garland which is my favorite. (I used a similar ball garland, but in red, in my entryway last year. It’s such an easy way to get a big impact!)

I also tucked some small paper snowflakes and paper stars into the garland to really give it that winter wonderland look. I even found a large paper snowflake that I managed to squeeze into the design. (The large snowflake seems to be sold out, but you can find a similar one HERE.)

Side Note: I’ve also included a complete source list for many of the items I used at the end of the post.

Winter Wonderland Christmas Mantel #christmas #mantel #decor #idea #holiday #winterwonderland #decorating #garlandWinter Wonderland Christmas Mantel #christmas #mantel #decor #idea #holiday #winterwonderland #decorating #garland

Additionally, I tucked in a few small snowy pinecones. (Remember the HUGE pinecones I had on here last year? I LOVED them, so I plan on using them on my tree this year. You can find those HERE.)

My sweet vintage deer collection stayed, but it grew a little bigger. I thrifted some ceramic deer that caught my eye, so they were added to the herd. Most of my collection is plastic deer, but I couldn’t resist these new ones. I love adding antique touches to my holiday decorating. In fact, I just wrote an entire post all about my Vintage Christmas Decor including these sweet deer. You can read that HERE.

Winter Wonderland Christmas Mantel #christmas #mantel #decor #idea #holiday #winterwonderland #decorating #garlandWinter Wonderland Christmas Mantel #christmas #mantel #decor #idea #holiday #winterwonderland #decorating #garlandThe wood trees stayed, but I added some tall green bottle brush trees.

I swapped out the fabulous artwork for this arched mirror and added a snowy pinecone wreath to it. As much as I miss the beautiful artwork, I love a mirror on a mantel, especially at Christmas. It reflects all of the twinkly lights and beautiful details in the room. To me, it adds to the magic.

Finally, the stockings, my favorite gold Santa, and the vintage wood magazine rack with birch branches stayed the same.

And with that my mantel was complete!

Winter Wonderland Christmas Mantel #christmas #mantel #decor #idea #holiday #winterwonderland #decorating #garlandWinter Wonderland Christmas Mantel #christmas #mantel #decor #idea #holiday #winterwonderland #decorating #garland

I’m glad I followed this “some things the same, some things different” approach. I wanted to share with you that I’ve been having a hard time decorating this year. I think it’s a combination of a lot of things as the world is a bit topsy-turvy these days, and the pressure to up my game and have completely new decor every year is just hitting in all the wrong places.

It’s a major joy in my life to be able to share ideas and hopefully inspire you and all the readers of IBC so I need to revisit the way I do things and focus on finding the joy of it all again. I hope that makes sense.

Now there’s no complaining here; I think when thoughts and feelings like this come up, it’s important to pause, get curious, see what they mean, and figure out how to move forward in a new joy-filled way.

I always feel a bit weird getting too deep here, but I think some things are important to say and share as you might be feeling the same. It’s not always sunshine and roses … or in this case snowflakes and pinecones.

In the end, the best news is that I’m loving my Winter Wonderland Christmas Mantel with nods to Christmas past and Christmas present.

And with that, I’m signing off so I can get back to decorating. You can find a full list of links/sources below.

If you’re wondering about sources, I did link them above but thought I would do a full link list here. I don’t have many, but I do have some so I will link those below. If something is not linked it’s likely that it’s no longer sold or it is a vintage item.

Since there may be some general questions about this mantel / bookcase, I will link to some helpful posts here as well. I just had it installed last year.

Chelsea Buns:

Is anyone else obsessed with The Great British Baking Show on Netflix? I know I’m late to the party as it has been on for years now, but I just started watching over the past month and I can’t get enough. It’s such a sweet (pun intended) show and I want to try baking everything.

I was especially intrigued by the Chelsea Buns which seem to pop up quite frequently on the show.

For my buns, I used Paul Hollywood’s Chelsea Buns recipe from the BBC. I made a few minor tweaks to the recipe and translated it from weight measurement to volume measurement.

Paul Hollywood seems to be an expert in bread, so I thought I would start with the best of the best. My goodness, am I glad I did because these Chelsea Buns were nothing short of amazing! They were fluffy, beautifully baked, and loaded with delicious flavors.

You might be wondering …

… what are Chelsea Buns?

A Chelsea Bun is a traditional British treat that is made from an enriched dough (made with eggs and butter) and contains dried fruit, brown sugar, and butter. Once baked, it’s topped with a sweet glaze. Chelsea Buns were created in the Chelsea area of West London by the Chelsea Bun House back in the 18th Century.

What is the Difference Between Chelsea Buns and Cinnamon Rolls?

It’s my understanding that the biggest differences between the two are the filling and the glaze/icing. As I mentioned above, Chelsea Buns are filled with dried fruit, brown sugar, and butter while cinnamon rolls are typically filled with cinnamon, brown sugar, and butter.

Also, cinnamon rolls are topped with a thicker icing (often containing cream cheese) while Chelsea buns have a much thinner glaze typically made with confectioners’ sugar.

And there you have it! You learn something new every day!

How to Make Chelsea Buns:

Start by adding the flour, salt, and yeast to a large mixing bowl. Whisk to combine. I’ve provided a full list of the ingredients and detailed recipe instructions in a printable recipe card below.

Add the milk and butter to a small saucepan. Heat on low until the butter is melted. Allow this mixture to cool to about 110-120 degrees F, then pour into the flour mixture. Add the egg and stir until it comes together as a soft dough.

Homemade Chelsea Buns #ChelseaBuns #breakfast #brunch #bread #rolls #Chelsea #recipe #driedfruit #orange

Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes. Place the dough into a greased bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and set in a warm place to rise for one hour or until doubled in size.

Homemade Chelsea Buns #ChelseaBuns #breakfast #brunch #bread #rolls #Chelsea #recipe #driedfruit #orange

Once doubled in size, place the dough on a lightly floured surface and roll it into a 12×8 inch rectangle.

Brush the surface with the melted butter, then sprinkle with the orange zest and cinnamon followed by the cranberries, apricots, and raisins.

Homemade Chelsea Buns #ChelseaBuns #breakfast #brunch #bread #rolls #Chelsea #recipe #driedfruit #orangeHomemade Chelsea Buns #ChelseaBuns #breakfast #brunch #bread #rolls #Chelsea #recipe #driedfruit #orange

If needed, trim off the uneven ends, then cut into 10 rolls.

Spray a large (9 x 13 or equivalent) baking pan with baking spray. Place the buns into the pan cut side up leaving space between each to allow them to rise.

Homemade Chelsea Buns #ChelseaBuns #breakfast #brunch #bread #rolls #Chelsea #recipe #driedfruit #orange

Cover loosely with a piece of plastic wrap or towel and leave in a warm place to rise for about 30 minutes.

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F.

Place the risen buns in the oven and bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown and baked through. If the buns are getting too brown, cover with foil.

Homemade Chelsea Buns #ChelseaBuns #breakfast #brunch #bread #rolls #Chelsea #recipe #driedfruit #orange

Remove from the oven and allow to cool for about 10 minutes. Melt the apricot jam in the microwave with just a splash of water, then brush it onto the top of the warm buns. Allow the buns to cool.

Homemade Chelsea Buns #ChelseaBuns #breakfast #brunch #bread #rolls #Chelsea #recipe #driedfruit #orangeHomemade Chelsea Buns #ChelseaBuns #breakfast #brunch #bread #rolls #Chelsea #recipe #driedfruit #orange

In a small bowl, whisk together the icing sugar, orange zest, and enough milk to make a glaze. Drizzle the icing over the cooled buns and serve.

While you can certainly make these Chelsea Buns any time of the year, I think the flavors of orange, cinnamon, and cranberries lend themselves really well to the holidays. If you’re looking for a sweet treat you can make from scratch, I highly recommend these Chelsea Buns.

Also, feel free to have fun with the fillings and glaze. I’m hoping to try another version of these with a different flavor combination before Christmas arrives, so stay tuned for that.

Notes

The original recipe calls for strong flour which is also known as bread flour. I didn't have that on hand, so I used all-purpose flour and the buns turned out beautifully.

Cranberry Manhattan Holiday Cocktail Recipe #christmas #cranberry #Manhattan #holiday #cocktail #recipe #whiskey #rye

Rye whiskey, sweet vermouth, and cranberry sauce come together to make this delicious and festive Cranberry Manhattan.

Cranberry Manhattan Holiday Cocktail Recipe #christmas #cranberry #Manhattan #holiday #cocktail #recipe #whiskey #rye

Cranberry Manhattan

It’s time for another holiday cocktail and I’m serving up this Cranberry Manhattan. Made with cranberry juice and cranberry sauce, it’s a seasonal take on the classic manhattan recipe.

Did I say cranberry sauce? I sure did! I know that it may seem like an odd ingredient for a cocktail, but it adds such wonderful depth of flavor and beautiful color. You can use homemade cranberry sauce if you have it, but I find classic Ocean Spray works fabulously.

And if you’re looking for more holiday libations to celebrate the season, you’re in luck because I have a full collection of my BEST Christmas Cocktail Recipes right HERE. There’s something for everyone!

What is a Manhattan?

If you’ve never had a Manhattan before, you might be wondering what it is?

Traditionally, a Manhattan is made with whiskey, sweet vermouth, and bitters. That’s it.

Rye is the traditional whiskey used, but you can use bourbon, Canadian whiskey, Tennessee whiskey, or even a blended whiskey.

If you’re looking for a good rye whiskey, I recommend WhistlePig 10 Year. It’s what I used for this recipe (it’s so good).

For this Cranberry Manhattan, I kept the base of the cocktail the same. I just added in cranberry juice, cranberry sauce, and used orange bitter instead of standard bitters.

It’s all about layering in those seasonal flavors!

Ready to shake one up? Let’s do it!

Shake vigorously for about 30 seconds. The outside of the shaker should be frosted and no visible cranberry sauce should remain.

Strain into a coupe or martini glass. You can find the coupe glass I used for this recipe HERE.

Garnish with fresh cranberries and an orange peel. You can just toss the cranberries in the glass or spear them with one of these gold cocktail picks. Make it your own!

Needless to say…, these are delicious. Ha! I also love that they are so easy to make. You can whip up 2 dozen cookies in no time. And I have a bonus tip for you. How to Make Gingerbread Cookie Bars:

Begin by preheating your oven to 350 degrees F. Spray a 9×13-inch baking pan with baking spray. You can also line the pan with parchment paper and then coat it with baking spray. This just makes it easier to remove the bars from the pan.

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, nutmeg, and salt. Set aside. I’ve provided a full list of the ingredients and detailed recipe instructions in a printable recipe card below.

In a large bowl, with an electric mixer (hand or stand), beat the butter, sugar, brown sugar, vanilla, and molasses until light and airy: about 4-5 minutes.

Add half of the flour mixture to the butter mixture and begin to combine. Add in the milk and start mixing again. Finally, add in the rest of the flour mixture and mix until just incorporated.

With a spatula, spread the batter into the prepared pan. Bake for 20 minutes or until set and a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean. Cool completely.

In the meantime, prepare the cream cheese frosting by creaming together the butter and cream cheese with an electric mixer. Add the powdered sugar (one cup at a time), vanilla extract, and salt. Mix until light and fluffy.

Adorable, delicious, and downright festive, these Shortbread Wreath Cookies are destined to be the start of your holiday cookie tray.

Shortbread Wreath Cookies

I have been on a Christmas cookie extravaganza this year! I’ve already shared a few cookie recipes and I’m coming at you with more including these Shortbread Wreath Cookies.

Shortbread Wreath Cookies #christmas #cookie #holiday #wreath #cookies #shortbread #holidaybaking Shortbread Wreath Cookies #christmas #cookie #holiday #wreath #cookies #shortbread #holidaybaking

Are they not the cutest and most festive you’ve ever seen? I can’t get enough of them! I’ve had this particular Christmas cookie recipe on my “to make” list for a couple of years now. I pulled it from a Christmas Cookies magazine years ago. With a few tweaks to make it my own, I couldn’t be more excited to share it with you!

Want more festive cookie recipes? I have the ultimate collection of Christmas cookie recipes right HERE. Tap through to check out all of my favorite holiday cookies. You’re in for a holiday feast!

The look of these Shortbread Wreath Cookies speaks for itself. I love all of the colors and textures. The flavor is delicious too. Have you ever had a spritz cookie? It’s basically just like that: light and buttery with a hint of almond flavor. The red cinnamon candies go perfectly with them. Yum!

Shortbread Wreath Cookies #christmas #cookie #holiday #wreath #cookies #shortbread #holidaybaking

Now, I will tell you that these Shortbread Wreath Cookies are slightly fussy to make. They aren’t difficult, but they do take a little time. Also, you can get really particular about the evenness of your wreaths and how intricate you are with the cuts on the edges of the cookies.

Even though I knew I would be photographing these to share with you, I didn’t get overly fussy. I tweaked them enough to look good and then left the rest in the hands of the “baking gods.” I think you should do the same. No cookie is worth stressing over.

With that said, I think it’s time to bake!

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, and salt. I’ve provided a full list of the ingredients and detailed recipe instructions in a printable recipe card below.

Using a pastry blender, cut the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles fine crumbs. Add the eggs, almond extract, and green food coloring. Begin mixing with a wooden spoon and then mix with your hands. Mix until evenly colored. Cover and chill the dough for about an hour.

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F.

Divide the dough into 24 1.5-inch sized balls. On a lightly floured surface, roll each ball into a 7-inch rope. Shape this rope into a circle and pinch the ends to seal.

Shortbread Wreath Cookies #christmas #cookie #holiday #wreath #cookies #shortbread #holidaybaking

Place the circles about 2-inches apart on an ungreased cookie sheet. Snip the edges of each circle with scissors to create texture.

Bake for 8 minutes or until the edges barely start to brown. Remove from the oven and transfer to a cooling rack to completely cool.

While the cookies cool, create the glaze by whisking together the confectioners’ sugar, milk, and vanilla extract. You can add more or less milk to achieve the desired consistency.

Working three cookies at a time, drizzle the glaze over the cookies (I found this easiest to do with the glaze in a piping or plastic bag.) Decorate with the red cinnamon candies, then sprinkle with the green sugar.

Course: Dessert
Cuisine: American
Keyword: Christmas cookies, cookie, holiday baking, shortbread
Servings: 24 cookies
Prep Time 45 mins
Cook Time 8 mins
Total Time 53 mins
Adorable, delicious, and downright festive, these Shortbread Wreath Cookies are destined to be the start of your holiday cookie tray.

Ingredients

Glaze:
Decorations:
  • red cinnamon candies
  • green sanding sugar

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, and salt.
  • Using a pastry blender, cut the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles fine crumbs. Add the eggs, almond extract, and green food coloring. Begin mixing with a wooden spoon and then mix with your hands. Mix until evenly colored. Cover and chill the dough for about an hour.
  • Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F.
  • Divide the dough into 24 1.5-inch sized balls. On a lightly floured surface, roll each ball into a 7-inch rope. Shape this rope into a circle and pinch the ends to seal.
  • Place the circles about 2-inches apart on an ungreased cookie sheet. Snip the edges of each circle with scissors to create texture.
  • Bake for 8 minutes or until the edges barely start to brown. Remove from the oven and transfer to a cooling rack to completely cool.
  • While the cookies cool, create the glaze by whisking together the confectioners' sugar, milk, and vanilla extract. You can add more or less milk to achieve the desired consistency.
  • Working three cookies at a time, drizzle the glaze over the cookies (I found this easiest to do with the glaze in a piping or plastic bag). Decorate with the red cinnamon candies, then sprinkle with the green sugar.
  • Cookies can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature.

Basement Renovation: Progress Update #basement #renovation #makeover #progress #flooring

I’m happy to report that I’ve made some wonderful progress with my basement renovation. In this post, I’m showing you everything that’s been completed and how what’s coming next!

Basement Renovation: Progress Update

For those of you that may have missed it, I’m working on a little mini makeover in my basement. This area was basically a rough and unused space that had become a catch-all for things that didn’t have a place. (It was also pretty gross and dirty.)

Basement Renovation: Progress Update #basement #renovation #makeover #progress #flooring

I decided I wanted to infuse new life into this basement with a fresh coat of paint and new purpose. The goal is to take this area from dingy and dirty to bright and inspired. If you want a full recap of my plans and a look at the space before, you can check out this post HERE.

Now that you’re all caught up, let me walk you through where I’m at today.

Basement Renovation: What’s Been Completed

Demo: Removed Damaged Paneling and Bar
The first big project I completed was the large built-in bar I no longer wanted. I also took down the paneling along the one wall as it had significant water damage.

As with any demolition in an older home, I discovered more water damage than what I had assumed. I also discovered that I had some termite friends doing some damage behind the wall. Not fun! Thankfully I was able to remove all the damage without too much fuss.

Basement Renovation: Progress Update #basement #renovation #makeover #progress #flooring

My original plan was to replace the planning on this wall, but until I completely resolve the water issue, I’m just going to work with what I have so this wall will be staying cinderblock. I have coated it with some Dry Lock paint to help with some of the moisture and then it will be painted the same color as the walls.

Lighting Updated
The overhead lighting was terrible in this space. I think I had a total of four overhead lights before. Not ideal.

My electrician came, worked his magic, and installed 18 brand new lights complete with dimmer switchs. I can’t get over what a difference this makes. The space feels so much brighter and cleaner.

Basement Renovation: Progress Update #basement #renovation #makeover #progress #flooring Basement Renovation: Progress Update #basement #renovation #makeover #progress #flooring New Floors Installed
While all of these changes have been big, I think the most impactful is the new flooring. I am obsessed!

If you ever looked at new flooring you might be aware that there are hundreds, if not thousands of options. I considered dozens of them, but ultimately decided to stick with linoleum flooring which was previously on the floor. I felt that this would be the best option incase there was any issues with water or moisture down the road, plus it gave me the opportunity to have some fun!

Basement Renovation: Progress Update #basement #renovation #makeover #progress #flooring

I ultimately decided on three different colored linoleum tiles: polar bear, warm gray, and black. The goal was to create a variation on a buffalo check pattern and I achieved just that!

If you’re wondering this product is actually called Marmoleum and is from Forbo Flooring Systems. So far, I’ve been really pleased with it/

Switching out the flooring instantly gave this space new life, a fresh clean look, and actually makes the space look bigger.

Basement Renovation: Progress Update #basement #renovation #makeover #progress #flooring Basement Renovation: Progress Update #basement #renovation #makeover #progress #flooring Basement Renovation: Progress Update #basement #renovation #makeover #progress #flooring

Along with the new floors, the crew that installed new baseboards. They look a bit big and garish at the moment, but once the whole room is painted, they will blend right in. I went with a 6-inch pine board for the trim to hide a lot of the issues at the base of the paneling. It worked perfectly. Everything is so crisp and tidy now.

The crew did not install baseboards on the cinderblock wall, but I may decide to do that once more of the room comes together. It just looks a bit odd without it, but I know that installing baseboard on an uneven surface will be a tricky endeavor. Wish me luck!

Basement Renovation: Progress Update #basement #renovation #makeover #progress #flooring What About The French Doors?

In my previous post I mentioned that I wanted to install a set of French doors where the windows are located. Well, unfortunately that can not happen.

While I was doing some work in my backyard we discovered that the footer of the house sits just below where the bottom of the doors would need to be. To prevent the footer from cracking due to frost (which would cause major structural issues to my home_ the footer needs to be covered by 3ft of dirt. It’s a bit complicated, but all that to say, my dreams of French doors won’t be happening. I was obviously bummed about it at first, but I’m feeling positive about it now. I will however replace the windows and door in the near future.

Okay, I think that’s all the progress and updates. What’s next?

Basement Renovations: Next Steps

Painting
For this space, I decided to hiring out the painting. I typically don’t mind doing the work, but the amount of prep work and patching that needs down is more than what I want to handle. (It’s my least favorite part of the painting process.) I feel so lucky and happy to be able to hire this job out.

The painters are tentatively scheduled to start in two weeks. I have a feeling it’s going to take them a couple weeks to finish. Fingers crossed I will be able to get back into this space sometime in December. With that being said, December is typically my busiest time of the year, so I think finishing this space will be a 2022 project.

That’s kind of a bummer, but everything happens for a reason and this timing makes sense.

Plumber
I also need to get my plumber here to install a new laundry sink as well as a sink for the studio space. Unfortunately, since my laundry room is in my basement which means I will be without a functioning washer and dryer until this space gets painted and the plumber works his magic. Whomp. Whomp.

In good news however I did find the coolest vintage piece that I’m going to turn into my studio sink. Do you want a sneak peek?

Here it is:

Basement Renovation: Progress Update #basement #renovation #makeover #progress #flooring

This piece will go in this area, but will be shifted all the way to the right. (I just can’t put it there now because there are pipes in the way). The plan is to install this vessel sink on top of this cabinet and then have a faucet come up behind it. Unless my plumber tells me otherwise, I think this should work out really well!

Basement Renovation: Progress Update #basement #renovation #makeover #progress #flooring

I’m also excited because I should be able to keep and use that little cubby which will be centered right above the sink. (Fingers crossed it all works out.)

Basement Renovations: That’s a Wrap for Now

And then once all of those things are done, I can finally move back into this space and officially have my little Creative Studio! It’s going to be such a blessing.

I’m also working on finding some furniture pieces for this space and may do a couple piece of built-in cabinetry. I need all the storage I can get. I’ll be sure to update you on all of those things when the time comes. If you are curious about some of my thoughts and plans, I do have a Pinterest board set up HERE with some of my ideas. (You can find the full Pinterest board for my whole home HERE.)

And that’s a wrap for now. I hope you enjoyed this little basement renovation update and are as excited as I am for what’s to come!

I’m happy to report that I’ve made some wonderful progress with my basement renovation. In this post, I’m showing you everything that’s been completed and how what’s coming next! A collection of my favorite Cranberry Recipes perfect for the holiday season! #cranberry #recipes #thanksgiving #christmas #dessert #cocktail #holdiay #baking #appetizers

Looking for unique and fun ways to jazz up the humble cranberry? Look no further! These cranberry recipes show you just how versatile this little berry can be.

my favorite cranberry recipes pin

If Christmas had a food-themed mascot, there would be a lot of contenders, but my vote would be a big juicy cranberry. All of these cranberry recipes are different from each other, but they all smell and taste like the holidays.

In this roundup, we’re covering everything from cocktails to desserts. These are the best (and my favorite) cranberry recipes for the holiday and the winter season. There are so many options here to love that you may not know where to start.

By the way, there’s a reason that they are known as holiday fruit. Cranberries have been a part of holiday celebrations for hundreds of years. I enjoy the lively tartness of cranberries all year round and have featured them in various foods here on Inspired By Charm.

Cranberry Sweet Rolls on a platter.

Top tips for making cranberry recipes

While I go into details on the instructions in each individual post linked within this roundup, I wanted to give you some quick tips for having the best baking experience possible.

1. Read the instructions fully before you begin.

It’s best to be prepared ahead of time to pace yourself and be ready for what step comes next. I highly encourage any baker to read the entire recipe at least once before starting!

Even if you think you already know how to make something, read through my recipe before you begin. You never know how I’ve changed it up.

2. Use the best ingredients possible.

I really want everyone to be successful with any of my recipes – and that starts with the ingredients.

Use the best ingredients you can get your hands on, especially when it comes to flavoring agents (such as vanilla extract) and things like fresh spices and leveling agents (yeast, baking powder, baking soda, etc.). It really does make a difference!

I also prefer using fresh cranberries whenever possible. Sometimes frozen cranberries don’t do as well as fresh ones.

3. Measure your ingredients precisely.

If you start guestimating and tossing in random amounts of flour and sugar, you will probably be disappointed. Pull out your measuring cups and measuring spoons, and be precise! I’ve been known to guesstimate when I cook, but it doesn’t work well when baking. Baking is more scientific.

4. Have fun!

Cooking and baking, especially during the holiday season, should be an enjoyable process. Turn on some holiday music (you can find all of my best Christmas playlists here), take a few deep breaths, and just enjoy!

It’s even more fun when you do it with a friend or family member, so make a day of it (or night) and have a blast!

The best cranberry recipes

Gleaming, plump, red ripe cranberries are not only beautiful, but they are also useful for adding color and a distinct tart flavor to appetizers, libations, and sweet treats. This collection offers many easy-to-prepare crowd-pleasers: we’re covering appetizers, baked cookies, breakfast treats, cocktails, and more!

No matter which recipe you’re looking for, I’m sure you’ll find it here.

Want more tasty Christmas treats and ideas? Try these:

Let’s get into these delectable cranberry-inspired recipes!

Cranberry appetizer recipes

Since you serve appetizers before the meal, let’s look at the best cranberry appetizers first. All of these ideas are perfect for parties of all sizes.

1. Cranberry Meatballs

It’s the tangy-sweet sauce that takes these meatballs to the next level. Simply combine jellied cranberry sauce, chili sauce, brown sugar, and lemon juice, spoon the mixture onto meatballs, and bake them in the oven.

You’ll be looking for lots of occasions to make this cranberry recipe. You can make them in the oven or the slow cooker. Either way, they’re easy and delicious.

2. Cranberry Bacon and Walnut Cheeseball

You can’t miss the flavor combination in this festive cheeseball. It looks stunning amidst small pretzel sticks, hearty crackers, and purple grapes. Best of all, it’s simple to create.

The red and green colors on the cheeseball are quintessentially Christmas, aren’t they?

3. Cranberry Bacon-Wrapped Water Chestnuts

I’m one of those people who can’t resist anything bacony, including this classic hors d’oeuvre. In my take on the traditional, I use whole water chestnuts, thick-cut bacon, and a cranberry-infused chili sauce.

That burst of tartness with the bacon crunchiness is mouth-wateringly good!

4. Cranberry Brie Bites

Made with rich and creamy brie, homemade cranberry sauce, and mini phyllo shells, these Cranberry Brie Bites are an easy, unique, and flavorful appetizer perfect for the holiday season.

5. Turkey Bacon Cranberry Roll-Ups

If you’re looking for a simple but flavorful appetizer that’s easy to make, you need to try these turkey bacon cranberry roll-ups. They make the perfect tasty treat for any occasion – even lunch, so serve them for your guests if it’s a noon party.

Now let’s look at my favorite cranberry libations. These drinks could not be more different from each other. Browse the list and mix up your favorite ones!

6. Maple Cranberry Bourbon Cocktail

Bourbon has become a go-to liquor at my house, and this is a drink I recently made to mark the start of the holiday season. The maple and cranberry play together so well!

Even if you’re not yet a big fan of bourbon, this cranberry recipe will let you explore the medley of flavors as you sip and celebrate.

7. Slow Cooker Holiday Sangria

You know I LOVE Sangria. (I’ve featured it many times on IBC.) This version is ideal for the holidays because it’s resplendent with the season’s colors. Plus, it stays warm in the slow cooker, and your guests can serve themselves.

As it simmers in the slow cooker, it looks (and smells) like all those classic Christmases that the carols sing about.

8. Cranberry Old Fashioned

I recommend having a signature cocktail for a Thanksgiving, Friendsgiving, or Christmas celebration. And this fabulous drink is one I often suggest. You can mix one up in a flash with cranberry simple syrup (I’ll show you how to make that, too.), a quality bourbon, and a splash of bitters.

This is less fruity and more smokey; it’s a really strong drink for anyone that wants that extra kick.

9. Cranberry Bourbon Cocktail

The base of this cranberry recipe is equal parts bourbon and cranberry juice. I fancified it with a rosemary sage simple syrup (directions are included in the recipe) and a little lemon juice.

If you haven’t decided what cocktail to serve before the turkey and trimmings, this might be the one.

10. Naughty but Nice Christmas Cocktail

I wanted to create a holiday cocktail recipe that would work with a few different types of alcohol – this Naughty but Nice cocktail does just that. You can use the liquor you love the most! I know that everyone has different preferences, so it’s nice to have a drink recipe that suits as many people as possible. Plus, it looks so cute!

If you’re wondering about the adorable bottle brush tree cocktail stirrers, they are a DIY! I have an entire post teaching you how to make them.

11. Cranberry Manhattan

Rye whiskey, sweet vermouth, and cranberry sauce come together to make this delicious and festive cranberry Manhattan. It’s both dry and sweet at the same time, with ribbons of sugary sweetness from the cranberries.

This is the perfect drink to serve at fancier holiday parties.

12. Holly Jolly Christmas Punch

A Christmas punch is always a go-to for me when it comes to holiday cocktail recipes. In this post, I’m sharing a new favorite: my Holly Jolly Christmas Punch. It’s incredibly easy to make and wonderfully delicious.

If you’re hosting a big event, I highly recommend you stir up a batch. This punch is enough for a large party of holiday guests.

13. Spiced Cranberry Champagne Cocktail

If you’re looking for an easy, delicious, and festive libation, this spiced cranberry champagne cocktail is a bubbly way to say cheers to the season. With a tart, sweet, and spiced flavor, it checks all the boxes for the perfect seasonal cocktail.

It’s always a good time for brunch, but holiday brunches stand out as some of the best! Add some festive cheer to your next brunch by making some of these breakfast recipes with juicy cranberries.

14. Cranberry Sweet Rolls

Delicious homemade dough is layered with a cranberry filling and twisted together to create these cranberry sweet rolls. A cream cheese drizzle finishes this sweet treat making it perfect for breakfast, dessert, or anything in between.

15. Mascarpone Cranberry French Toast

This cranberry recipe will likely become your new favorite breakfast for the holiday and winter seasons. The creamy mascarpone and fresh juicy cranberries make this French toast appealing to the eyes and the palette.

And when life is even busier than usual, you can put this dish together in advance. Just refrigerate it overnight and bake it the next morning.

16. Apple Cranberry Baked Oatmeal

When the air outside turns crisp and cool, this apple cranberry baked oatmeal is a hearty and flavorful way to start your day. This seasonal breakfast dish is also easy to make, packed with fresh apples, dried cranberries, chopped pecans, and seasonal spices.

17. Cranberry Orange Marmalade

Tart cranberries, sweet oranges, seasonal spices, and a splash of bourbon come together to make this divine cranberry orange marmalade. Serve on buttered toast or package as gifts to share with friends. It has so much flavor that you’ll never go back to grape jelly again.

Must-make cranberry dessert recipes

Whenever I think about cranberries, I admit that desserts are the first type of food that comes to mind. All of these cranberry dessert recipes are delicious AND stunning.

18. Apple Cranberry Tart

In this tasty dessert, cranberries are the star, and apples and walnuts are supporting players. Bursting with cheery red color and warm, sweet, and tart flavors, this cranberry recipe is my seasonal take on a traditional apple tart.

You and your family (and guests!) will love it.

19. Slow Cooker Cranberry Orange Monkey Bread

Whether you’re planning a small brunch or a big gathering, this monkey bread is the kind of sweet yumminess everyone loves. Drizzled with icing and full of seasonal flavors, this gooey cranberry recipe will be gobbled up in no time.

20. Cranberry Orange Walnut Tassies

The look and taste of these small tarts will wow your family and friends. Although this cranberry recipe appears time-consuming, it comes together pretty quickly once you’ve made the cookie dough and the filling has had time to chill.

21. Cranberry Pecan Pie

Something tells me this is a cranberry recipe your dear ones will be begging you to make! The cranberries offer the perfect counterpoint to the traditional rich and sugary pecan filling. And their ruby color gives this pie a holiday touch.

22. Apple Cranberry Slab Pie

The secret to this dessert is the puff pastry crust. Once it’s rolled out and filled with a mixture of dried cranberries, sliced apples, cinnamon, and sugar, another layer of pastry goes on top. After the pie is baked and cooled, you drizzle it with icing. I promise it will get rave reviews!

23. Sugared Cranberries

To make these shimmering beauties, you coat fresh cranberries in simple syrup and then in sugar. After the sugared berries are dry, use them for snacks, garnishes, and décor.

I recently decorated a black walnut Christmas cake with them. Also, check out my gingerbread house cake, where I used these cranberries to garnish that too.

Italian Sprinkle Christmas Cookies #christmas #cookie #recipe #italiansprinkle #sprinkles #holiday #baking

These Italian Sprinkle Christmas Cookies are a festive take on the classic Italian Sprinkle Cookies (also known as Italian Wedding Cookies). The recipe is the same, but with a change of sprinkles, it feels like a whole new cookie designed just for Christmas.

Italian Sprinkle Christmas Cookies #christmas #cookie #recipe #italiansprinkle #sprinkles #holiday #baking

Italian Sprinkle Christmas Cookies

If you are very observant, you might remember that back in August I shared a recipe that looked really similar to this one. It was for Italian Sprinkle Cookies. When I made that recipe, I decided to make these Italian Sprinkle Christmas Cookies at the same time. How’s that for planning ahead?

For the most part, these two recipes are identical. Both make a delicious, sweet, and soft cookie dunked into a sweet glaze and topped with colorful sprinkles. The only change is the color combination of sprinkles that I used. The classic Italian Sprinkle Cookie used rainbow sprinkles, while the Italian Sprinkle Christmas Cookie has red, green, and white.

The other change I made to this Italian Sprinkle Christmas Cookie recipe was the yield. The previous recipe that I shared made 3.5 dozen cookies, this one makes 7 dozen. Essentially, the recipe is doubled. Since we all have different cookie count requirements, I thought it would be nice to have two different options.

So, with all of that being said, let me walk you through this tasty, festive, cookie recipe!

Italian Sprinkle Christmas Cookies #christmas #cookie #recipe #italiansprinkle #sprinkles #holiday #baking

Making Italian Sprinkle Christmas Cookies:

I’ve included a printable recipe card below for a full rundown of the recipe ingredients and instructions.

While these Italian Sprinkle Christmas Cookies are really easy to make, I will say that making seven dozen of them does take some time. If you don’t need quite that many, you can cut the recipe in half. If you want that already done for you, then be sure to check out my Italian Sprinkle Cookie recipe here. It’s the same recipe but scaled back to make 3.5 dozen.

No matter how many cookies you make, I hope you enjoy this delicious recipe.

Kitchen Tools I Recommend for This Recipe:

Whether you’re wondering what equipment you’ll need for this recipe, curious about my favorite utensils, or if you are just looking to stock your own kitchen, these are the kitchen tools I recommend for this recipe:

How to Make Italian Sprinkle Christmas Cookies:

Begin by preheating your oven to 350 degrees F.

In the bowl of a stand mixer, combine the flour, confectioners’ sugar, and baking powder. Mix on low speed. I’ve included a printable recipe card below for a full rundown of the recipe ingredients and instructions.

Gradually beat in the shortening, almond extract, and lemon extract until the mixture resembles fine crumbs.

In a small bowl, whisk together the eggs until light and foamy. Slowly add the beaten eggs to the flour and shortening mixture. The dough will be stiff.

Roll the dough into 1-inch balls and place about 2 inches apart on an ungreased baking sheet.

How to Make Italian Sprinkle Cookies also known as Italian Wedding Cookies #sprinkle #cookies #italianweddingcookies #nonpareils #cookie #recipe #sprinklecookies

Bake for about 10-12 minutes. The tops of the cookies will remain white, and the bottoms will be slightly browned.

In a small bowl, make the glaze by whisking together the confectioners’ sugar, milk, almond extract, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. Whisk until smooth.

As soon as you remove the cookies from the oven, glaze the cookies. Working in batches of about four cookies, add them to the bowl of glaze, turn them around with a fork, and then remove them from the glaze. Use the fork to place the cookies on a cooling rack to drain. Immediately top this set of cookies with sprinkles. Repeat with remaining cookies.

When glazing your cookies, I recommend placing a piece of wax paper under your cooling rack to make for easy clean-up.

Once the cookies are cool and the glaze is set, pack in an airtight container.

And that’s a wrap on these Italian Sprinkle Christmas Cookies.

Trust me on this one, they look as delicious as they taste and the sprinkles add the perfect festive touch! While these are lovely for the holidays and other celebrations, I also enjoy them just as much when served with a cup of coffee or tea. It’s the perfect combination and just enough of a treat to satisfy any sweet tooth.

Happy Holiday Baking!

DIY Paper Star Garland #garland #christmas #holiday #diy #bookpage #stars #gold #handmade

DIY Paper Star Garland

Welcome back to IBC! In this post, we are going on a little crafting adventure where you will learn how to make this DIY Paper Star Garland.

If I had an unlimited amount of time during the holidays, I would do significantly more crafting. It’s just such a joy-inducing thing for me. I love hunting down and buying the supplies, I find the art of crafting relaxing and fulfilling, and the end results typically create something unique, handmade, and one-of-a-kind. What’s not to love?

DIY Paper Star Garland #garland #christmas #holiday #diy #bookpage #stars #gold #handmade

Today I am back with my Seasons of Home Blogger friends. We are all sharing a budget-friendly Christmas decor idea. I thought this DIY Paper Star Garland would be the perfect project to help you add a little handmade festive touch to your holiday decorating. Once you’re done here, be sure to check out all of the other budget-friendly holiday ideas that I linked at the end of this post.

I decided to make a garland because I find them to be so useful for holiday decorating. It can take a basic evergreen garland from boring to extra special. You can even put it on your Christmas tree for added interest.

If you’re feeling extra generous, you could also use this as part of your holiday wrapping! Add a piece to the top of a package for a special, personal touch.

I love paying attention to little details like this in my decorating. A unique garland like this can produce the perfect finishing touch.

For my garland, I opted to use vintage book pages and shiny gold paper. I find this color scheme to work well with any decor. However, if you have a specific color scheme in mind, feel free to switch it up and do what works for you. (I’ve provided some other paper ideas in the supplies section below.)

DIY Paper Star Garland #garland #christmas #holiday #diy #bookpage #stars #gold #handmade

I also wanted you to know that I kept my book page and gold paper usage somewhat random. While the sizes of the stars follow a pattern, how I added in the gold does not.

Okay, are you ready to craft? Let’s start off by gathering some supplies.

Supplies Needed for this Paper Star Garland:

DIY Paper Star Garland #garland #christmas #holiday #diy #bookpage #stars #gold #handmade– Paper: I used old book pages and gold paper, but you can use anything you like or have. Feel free to buy colored paper to match your decor, use old magazine pages, vintage sheet music, old photos, etc.

– Star Punches: I purchased this three-pack as I wanted different sizes of stars. However, you can just get one punch, you can use a paper cutting machine to cut out your stars, you can cut them out by hand, you can also choose a different shape, etc.

– Twine: I used this basic natural twine that I had on hand. You can use whatever you have. Even embroidery floss, yarn, jute, etc. will work. Feel free to use a colored twine if you’d like.

– Glue: Basic school glue will do the trick. I’m using this Glue-All which might be a bit tackier, but any basic white glue is perfect.

– Paintbrush: I found a paintbrush to be the easiest way to apply the glue. You could also use a popsicle stick or even apply it directly from the bottle if you’re extra careful.

Now that you know what you need, let’s make this Paper Star Garland!

How to Make a DIY Paper Star Garland:

Begin by using the punches to cut stars out of your paper.

DIY Paper Star Garland #garland #christmas #holiday #diy #bookpage #stars #gold #handmade

Once you have a good amount of stars cut, lay out a piece of twine on your working surface.

If you’re using a variety of papers or star sizes, take a moment to decide whether or not you are going to create a pattern.

DIY Paper Star Garland #garland #christmas #holiday #diy #bookpage #stars #gold #handmade

Use the paintbrush to add a small amount of glue to the back of a paper star.

DIY Paper Star Garland #garland #christmas #holiday #diy #bookpage #stars #gold #handmade

Set your twine on top of the glued surface. Add glue to the back of another star, then sandwich the twine between the two glued sides while matching up the star shapes.

DIY Paper Star Garland #garland #christmas #holiday #diy #bookpage #stars #gold #handmade

Repeat this process until you have a garland of your desired length.

That’s it!

DIY Paper Star Garland #garland #christmas #holiday #diy #bookpage #stars #gold #handmadeDIY Paper Star Garland #garland #christmas #holiday #diy #bookpage #stars #gold #handmade

Generally speaking, I’d say you could craft 6 feet of garland in about 1 – 1.5 hours. It honestly comes together pretty quickly and I just love the end results. I hope you do too!

As always, if you give this craft a try, let me know. Share a picture on Instagram and tag me @inspiredbycharm. I’d love to see your creations!

Vintage Christmas Decor + How to Style It #vintage #christmas #decorating #antique #holiday #decor #style #festive #santamug

Want to add a touch of nostalgia to your holiday decorating? Then this list of vintage Christmas decor ideas will be both helpful and inspiring. Let’s deck your halls with some vintage holiday style!

Vintage Christmas Decor + How to Style It #vintage #christmas #decorating #antique #holiday #decor #style #festive #santamug

If you are familiar with my blog and decorating style, you’ll know that I love incorporating vintage elements into my decor. Of course, this also applies to my seasonal and holiday decorating.

It’s hard to believe, but I’ve been sharing my Christmas decor ideas on this blog for 12 years. Over the last decade-plus, I have incorporated vintage items into my space in different ways.

In this post, I’ll walk you through some of my favorite vintage Christmas decor ideas from years past and how I use them to add festive cheer to my home.

Christmas In my Bulters Pantry #kitchen #christmas #decor #holiday #pantry #decorating #santamugs

What is vintage decor?

Before we jump in, I want to clarify what I mean by vintage decor. In this context, I’m mainly talking about truly authentic pieces that have lasted over the decades.

While there are plenty of stores that offer inexpensive reproductions, the quality of these items isn’t always up to par with true vintage pieces.

That’s why, when it’s within my budget, I’ll almost always prefer a genuine vintage item over a reproduction.

Ideas for Cozy Lodge Christmas Tree Decorations #christmastree #decor #holiday #decorations #christmas #tree #ideas

However, there are times when the reproductions make more sense. Whether they fit in my budget better or are just in much better shape, there’s nothing wrong with purchasing something new that’s manufactured to look older. In fact, at Bayberry house, you’ll always find a good mixture of new and vintage items. To me, it adds the perfect balance of character and charm.

Want more? Check out all these Christmas Ideas:

Where can I find vintage Christmas decor?

There are so many places you can shop for vintage items. A few of my favorites include:

  • estate sales
  • eBay
  • Facebook marketplace
  • Craigslist
  • antique store
  • thrift stores
  • Etsy
  • flea markets

One thing I will say is that vintage Christmas items (and vintage in general) gain popularity every year. Because of this, finding really special, unique items has become more difficult and more expensive.

I don’t say this to deter you from decorating with vintage items, but I just want you to be prepped and ready. If you see something you truly love, grab it!

Vintage Christmas Decor Items to Add to Your Home this Holiday Season

To help you get started with your holiday decor, here is some inspiration from my own home.

1. Vintage Santa Mugs

I am a huge fan of these vintage Santa mugs. They add the perfect touch of whimsey to your kitchen (or, in my case, my Christmas butler’s pantry)

Christmas In my Bulters Pantry #kitchen #christmas #decor #holiday #pantry #decorating #santamugs

These mugs are the result of several years of collecting. Hunting for these cheery mugs has been one of my favorite activities over the last few years.

I also have some new mugs layered in with the authentic vintage ones. I really like the ones from Pottery Barn. You can purchase either the standard size mug or the mini mugs, but I highly recommend both.

Christmas In my Bulters Pantry #kitchen #christmas #decor #holiday #pantry #decorating #santamugs

You can use these mugs to enjoy hot chocolate or a fun Christmas cocktail. And the little mini mugs are the perfect shot glass size.

See more ideas for how to decorate with these vintage mugs in the kitchen here.

2. Vintage Ornaments

There are so many things you can do with vintage ornaments. If you are looking for the perfect item to start collecting, this could be the one.

Here are just a few of the ways I’ve used thrifted glass ornaments over the years:

Festive Christmas Kitchen Decor Ideas #christmas #kitchen #decor #decorating #ideas #holiday

While all the projects above used mainly vintage ornaments, you don’t need to have a ton to get started. Almost all my Christmas trees throughout the years have been a mixture of new ornaments along with colored glass balls nestled among the Christmas lights to help fill in the tree.

If you are having a hard time finding vintage ornaments, consider purchasing reproductions instead. There are so many beautiful options these days, like the ones in this gingerbread tree. You can find similar ornaments everywhere from Target to Amazon and anywhere in between.

3. Vintage Tins and Packaging

Tins are a seriously underrated tool in your Christmas decor arsenal. These items are pretty affordable and very sturdy. You can use them as part of your decorating display (like I did here in my entryway) or stack them under the tree for added oomph.

Red and White Christmas Tree #christmas #christmastree #tree #decor #decorating #holiday #christmastreedecor #ornaments

I like using these tins because they can also double as storage if needed. They make the perfect spot to tuck away labels, twine, or any other gift wrapping supplies. You can find some of the vintage Scotch Tape tins here. They are my favorite!

4. Vintage Glassware and Dinnerware

I’ve got a soft spot in my heart for vintage dining items (particularly around the holidays when I’m all about nostalgia).

I’m especially fond of vintage glassware because it can easily elevate your entire tablescape, even if it’s the only vintage item there. You can see what I mean in this vintage-modern Christmas table decor.

Plus, they are fun for making festive cocktails in too!

5. Gift Wrap

Leading up to the holidays, you’ll likely have a stack of gifts under the tree. Why not make the presents themself part of your decor? Not only will you enjoy the look, but the recipient will too.

These DIY vintage bags are one of my all-time favorite ways to package a gift. Prefer to keep it simpler? Stick with plaid wrapping paper and then add one of these adorable printed gift tags on top.

6. Plastic Deer

This is my absolute favorite vintage decor I own. My Gram and Pop started out my collection with three vintage deer, and I’ve kept an eye out for them while thrifting ever since. They are hard to come by but worth the effort!

You can see them displayed on my vintage-themed fireplace mantle here.

7. Garland

It wouldn’t be a classic Christmas without a garland or two! Find some vintage garland or tinsel to bring magic to the basic garland. You can see my vintage crocheted star garland nestled around the pinecones and greenery on my mantel here.

8. Vintage Thermos

I love having a hot chocolate bar a few times a year when entertaining in the winter months. I always pull out this vintage thermos. Not only does it add a festive backdrop to my mugs, but it’s practical too as it keeps drinks warm.

You can see my thermos in action, plus learn how to make a delicious homemade hot chocolate mix here. I even found one to match my gingerbread-inspired tree! It was so perfect!

9. Putz Houses / Christmas Village

On a whim, I started collecting these vintage Putz houses. They are a little quirky and weird which makes me like them even more.

I found that these little vintage Putz houses are fairly easy to come by when I’m out antique hunting. They seem to be pretty affordable too.

1o. Vintage Cookie Cutters

Did you spy another vintage Christmas decor item above? Vintage Cookie Cutters! No only do I use these for cooking making, but I love using them as decor too.

Vintage Christmas Cabinet Decorating Ideas #christmas #vintage #putz #holiday #decor #ideas

My collection is pretty large at this point, so I use them in two ways. First, I simply tuck them into a bowl as filler. I’m especially fond of the cutters with colored wood handles.

Last year I had the idea to style this small little tree in my kitchen. I didn’t want to buy ornaments, so I opted to use some vintage cookie cutters.

They worked perfectly and I love the look.

11. Brass Candleholder

Candles are the perfect way to add coziness and holiday cheer to any space! If you look at my nighttime Christmas home tour you can spot my vintage brass candleholder in the living room acting as a centerpiece.

Salted Caramel Crumb Bars #saltedcaramel #bars #butterbars #caramel #cookies #recipe #holidaybaking

These Salted Caramel Crumb Bars are a slice of heaven! With rich and creamy salted caramel layered between a buttery cookie crust and crumb topping, what’s not to love? Everyone will be asking for this recipe.

Salted Caramel Crumb Bars #saltedcaramel #bars #butterbars #caramel #cookies #recipe #holidaybaking

Salted Caramel Crumb Bars:

Friends, I have been wanting to share this Salted Caramel Crumb Bars recipe for almost a year now. Last year around this time, my mom’s friend (thank you, Julie) made these for me and I was instantly hooked! To be honest, I have been thinking about them ever since.

My family came to visit this past weekend and I was looking for the perfect sweet treat to make for their visit and I knew these Salted Caramel Crumb Bars would be something everyone would love. And I was right! They gobbled them up and asked to take home the extras.

Looking for more delicious bars? You’ll love these:

Salted Caramel Crumb Bars #saltedcaramel #bars #butterbars #caramel #cookies #recipe #holidaybaking Salted Caramel Crumb Bars #saltedcaramel #bars #butterbars #caramel #cookies #recipe #holidaybaking

Why are they so good? Well, I think they are the perfect combination of textures and flavors. First, salted caramel … need I say more? Second, both the cookie base and cookie crumble topping are like a soft, buttery shortbread-style cookie. Put those two together and it’s pure magic!

Salted Caramel Crumb Bars #saltedcaramel #bars #butterbars #caramel #cookies #recipe #holidaybaking

They really are a treat and I wholeheartedly recommend them. I know you’re going to love them.

Ready to give these Salted Caramel Crumb Bars a try? Let’s bake!

Kitchen Tools I Recommend for This Recipe:

Whether you’re wondering what equipment you’ll need for this recipe, curious about my favorite utensils, or if you’re just looking to stock your own kitchen, these are the kitchen tools I recommend for this recipe:

Want more? You can find the list of My Ultimate Kitchen Essentials HERE.

How to Make Salted Caramel Crumb Bars:

Begin by preheating your oven to 325 degrees F. Spray a 9×13 baking pan with baking spray. Set aside.

To the bowl of a stand mixer add the softened butter, granulated sugar, powdered sugar, and salt. With the paddle attachment, cream together for about 2-3 minutes. For your convenience, I’ve shared ingredient amounts and full instructions in the printable recipe card below.

Add in the vanilla and mix again to combine.

With your mixer on low, add the flour one cup at a time and mix until a dough forms. You may need to scrape the side of the bowl down to ensure everything is evenly combined.

Salted Caramel Crumb Bars #saltedcaramel #bars #butterbars #caramel #cookies #recipe #holidaybaking

Transfer 1/3 of the dough to your prepared pan and press with your fingers to form an even layer of dough on the bottom of the pan. Wrap the remaining dough in plastic and place it in the refrigerator to chill.

Salted Caramel Crumb Bars #saltedcaramel #bars #butterbars #caramel #cookies #recipe #holidaybaking

Bake the crust for about 20 minutes or until the edges just start to slightly brown. Allow the crust to cool completely.

In the meantime, prepare your caramel filling by placing the unwrapped caramels and milk into a microwave-safe bowl. For the caramel candies, you want the Kraft or Brach’s caramels. You can find those HERE or HERE. Microwave for 1 minute, then stir. Continue to microwave at 30-second intervals stirring in-between until the caramel is smooth. Mix in the vanilla.

Salted Caramel Crumb Bars #saltedcaramel #bars #butterbars #caramel #cookies #recipe #holidaybaking

Pour the caramel mixture over the cooled crust. Spread into a uniform layer and then sprinkle evenly with your sea salt flakes. Any flakey sea salt will work here, but my favorite is Maldon. I buy it by the tub, but you can get a smaller quantity here.

Salted Caramel Crumb Bars #saltedcaramel #bars #butterbars #caramel #cookies #recipe #holidaybaking Salted Caramel Crumb Bars #saltedcaramel #bars #butterbars #caramel #cookies #recipe #holidaybaking

Crumble the remaining chilled dough over the top of your caramel layer. (This will look odd but trust the process. Everything settles down in the oven.)

Salted Caramel Crumb Bars #saltedcaramel #bars #butterbars #caramel #cookies #recipe #holidaybaking

Bake again (at 325 degrees) for about 30 minutes. The caramel should be bubbly and the topping will be lightly golden.

Cool completely, then cut into squares for serving.

Salted Caramel Crumb Bars #saltedcaramel #bars #butterbars #caramel #cookies #recipe #holidaybaking Salted Caramel Crumb Bars #saltedcaramel #bars #butterbars #caramel #cookies #recipe #holidaybaking

And that’s it! While the recipe for these Salted Caramel Crumb Bars does have a lot of steps, these bars are actually quite easy to make. The effort you expend is totally worth it!

These bars are delicious any time of the year. I also think they would make a tasty addition to your holiday cookie trays, so don’t forget to put them on your Christmas baking list.

Truth be told, butternut squash might be one of my favorite things. Growing up, this recipe was the only way I ever ate it. However, over the years I’ve tried it in a multitude of recipes. I even love it when it’s presented in a savory way. Butternut Squash Ravioli with a brown butter sauce? Yes, please!

This particular recipe is really easy to make and is mostly hands-off. It is no fuss and it turns out deliciously every time. In our family, we don’t even do the “sweet potato casserole thing” because this takes its place. And while this has a sweetness to it, it’s not overly sweet. You can even lessen or omit the brown sugar completely and still have a delicious dish. The choice is yours.

Oh, and it’s worth mentioning that you can serve this as a side for any meal. There’s no need to save it just for Thanksgiving.

And with all of that said, let’s get into the recipe!

A Creative Retreat #thecreativeexponent #creativeretreat #creativity #creativework

Last week I went on a little creative retreat to Santa Rosa Beach, Florida. While I wish I could have taken you all with me, that wasn’t an option so I figured the best I could do was give you a little recap of the experience.

A Creative Retreat #thecreativeexponent #creativeretreat #creativity #creativeworkA Creative Retreat #thecreativeexponent #creativeretreat #creativity #creativework

The retreat was hosted by Shaunna Parker and The Creative Exponent. If you haven’t heard of Shaunna or The Creative Exponent, I highly recommend checking out both. Shaunna is a multi-talented writer, painter, and creative business coach. The Creative Exponent is a wealth of inspiration, an inspiring creative community, and a can’t miss podcast.

Like many, I haven’t traveled anywhere by plane since 2019. Feeling safe and knowing the retreat was a small group gathering, I was eager to attend.

A Creative Retreat #thecreativeexponent #creativeretreat #creativity #creativework

Why A Creative Retreat?

Creativity might be the biggest part of my job as a full-time blogger. My brain is constantly working (sometimes in overdrive) to think of new and creative content, ideas, recipes, etc. to share with the readers of Inspired by Charm. Creativity is like a vehicle in that it will eventually run out of gas if one doesn’t refill the tank. Shaunna’s creative retreat was a way for me to refuel my inspiration vehicle.

This isn’t the first time I’ve gone on a creative retreat. A few years ago I went to Ireland for a week-long photography retreat. It was life-giving. To be honest, if I could do two retreats a year, I would. One would be a retreat with others, another would be a retreat all by myself. In fact, this retreat might have been the push I need to make this a reality.

What to Expect on a Creative Retreat:

All retreats are different and if you are hosting your own, you can really do whatever fills your soul. Here are some of the things we did on this retreat that I thoroughly enjoyed.

– LOTS of conversation
At the end of the day, as much as I enjoyed all the activities and exercises, the helpful and inspiring conversation among the host and attendees will always be my favorite part. This is where I learned the most and it is what leaves me feeling fired up.

A Creative Retreat #thecreativeexponent #creativeretreat #creativity #creativework– Creative Exercises
Since Shaunna is a fellow creative, I knew this retreat would have a few hands-on exercises and I was right. We styled beautiful flat-lay photography, visited the local bookstores and shops, and even did a little oil painting.

A Creative Retreat #thecreativeexponent #creativeretreat #creativity #creativework– A Deeper Look
Another item I appreciated about this retreat is that Shaunna provided us with an invaluable workbook. It is full of exercises and writing prompts for us to complete in order to get the most out of the retreat. The best part? This workbook can be used again and again as a guide for any retreat. It will especially come in handy should I do some solo retreats.

A Creative Retreat #thecreativeexponent #creativeretreat #creativity #creativeworkA Creative Retreat #thecreativeexponent #creativeretreat #creativity #creativework

As a group, we did a few of the exercises together. I really loved this because, as someone that works from home alone, I’m often left thinking I’m the only one that struggles with certain things. It turns out that’s not the case at all. As we worked through some of these things, the participants at the retreat found that we had a lot in common. It was wonderful to discover this and healing to talk it out.

A Creative Retreat #thecreativeexponent #creativeretreat #creativity #creativeworkA Creative Retreat #thecreativeexponent #creativeretreat #creativity #creativework– Alone Time
Being an introverted person, I love that alone time was built into this retreat. It gave me a chance to absorb what I was learning, think about changes I need to make, and it even gave me some time to explore the beautiful gulf coast. (If you’ve never been to this part of Florida, I highly recommend it!) Having not walked the beach in years, this was good for my soul.

A Creative Retreat #thecreativeexponent #creativeretreat #creativity #creativeworkA Creative Retreat #thecreativeexponent #creativeretreat #creativity #creativework

And while this wasn’t an activity, I must say that the meals were amazing. We had a big charcuterie spread, a stunning packed picnic lunch, and even an in-home chef-prepared meal.

I even got to prepare a cocktail for the group. I made a delicious bourbon, ginger, and lemon cocktail using my favorite Four Roses Single Barrel Bourbon. I’ll be sharing the recipe with you soon! Stay tuned!

Needless to say, I felt special and cared for the entire time!

Creative Retreat Special Mentions:

I also wanted to give a quick shout-out to two brands that I love who were kind enough to provide some beauty and deliciousness for the retreat. Their participation was invaluable and helped to make this retreat even more beautiful and delicious!

Marqués De Riscal

Every retreat needs wine, right? Marqués De Riscal was kind enough to provide two wines for the retreat. We drank wine every night. I was familiar with Marqués De Riscal because of their Rioja, the red wine they provided for our event. Back when I worked for the Four Seasons, this was one of the red wines they had on their menu. It’s delicious, pairs beautifully with food, and the bottle is gorgeous. It’s wrapped in gold netting that makes it beautiful to present or to even give as a gift.

A Creative Retreat #thecreativeexponent #creativeretreat #creativity #creativeworkA Creative Retreat #thecreativeexponent #creativeretreat #creativity #creativework

They also sent a white wine, their Verdejo, which was wonderfully delicious too. This variety was new to me, but I found myself really enjoying it and gravitating to it as my go-to. I think it’s a great wine just for sipping and enjoying. It would pair nicely with a light lunch.

A Creative Retreat #thecreativeexponent #creativeretreat #creativity #creativework

Thank you Marqués De Riscal! Cheers! (Be sure to visit their website HERE to see more of their delicious wines!)

A Creative Retreat #thecreativeexponent #creativeretreat #creativity #creativeworkPetalDriven

You might remember that several weeks ago I shared my tips for styling fall flower arrangements. All of the beautiful blooms were from my friends at PetalDriven. Because I really enjoyed working with their flowers, I asked if they would be willing to share some more blooms so I could decorate the home we were staying in for the retreat. PedalDriven was more than happy to oblige.

A Creative Retreat #thecreativeexponent #creativeretreat #creativity #creativeworkA Creative Retreat #thecreativeexponent #creativeretreat #creativity #creativework

I picked some of my favorite blooms including White Dahlias, Pink Alstroemeria, Mixed Eucalyptus, Miss Piggy Roses, and Roseum Viburnum. The combination was stunning. They looked gorgeous throughout the entire retreat.

I styled all the arrangements myself. The selection of flowers worked perfectly to style large arrangements for the gathering spaces and smaller vases for the bedrooms.

Creative Retreat – Final Thoughts:

And that’s a wrap on this creative retreat. It is my understanding that Shaunna and The Creative Exponent plan to host more retreats in the future. There’s even talk about doing an abroad retreat next year. (I’m keeping my fingers crossed.) If a creative retreat sounds interesting or helpful, give The Creative Exponent a follow, and sign up for their mailing list so you don’t miss out on details of future retreats.

Also, this just happens to be the creative retreat I took. This isn’t sponsored in any way. I assume there are dozens if not hundreds of creative retreats out there to choose from every year. Do some research and find the retreat that speaks most to your creative heart. And if you can’t find one, take yourself on your own creative retreat or gather some friends and do a group thing. These things do take effort to coordinate and plan, but I can’t explain how wonderful, helpful, and refueling a creative retreat can be!

Best Bourbon Cocktails - Easy Bourbon Drinks #bourbon #cocktail #oldfashioned #drink #recipe #easy #cockatils #cranberry #maple

If you’ve been a reader for any amount of time, you likely know that I enjoy a good cocktail every now and then. Lately, as the weather has started to chill, I’ve found myself reaching for easy bourbon cocktails more and more.

I’ll admit I wasn’t always the biggest fan of bourbon drinks, but they have grown on me. While I still am learning to tolerate bourbon neat, I have been pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoy cocktails made with bourbon.

Best Bourbon Cocktails - Easy Bourbon Drinks #bourbon #cocktail #oldfashioned #drink #recipe #easy #cockatils #cranberry #maple

Bourbon Cocktail Tips

Before we jump into the recipes, I have some helpful tips to share about drinking bourbon. I learned the hard way with some of these, so I hope these quick tips point you in the right direction!

Choose the Correct Glassware

Traditionally, bourbon drinks are served in a rocks glass (also called a whiskey tumbler or an old-fashioned glass). You can also use a double old fashioned glass.

Could you serve these easy bourbon cocktails in a mug and call it a day? Sure, but you may not get the full experience. Part of the joy of mixed drinks is the presentation.

Plus, a rocks glass offers much more than just aesthetics. The shape of the glass allows your nose more access, enjoying the sensory sniff of the cocktail. It also enables you to swirl the drink and release even more of those delicious notes.

Learn the Difference Between Bourbon and Whiskey

Many people incorrectly use whiskey and bourbon interchangeably. While all bourbon is whiskey, not all whiskey is bourbon. Bourbon is held to some different standards than whiskey. For example, a true bourbon must be distilled from a mixture include at least 51% corn for that signature sweet flavor.

Bourbon must also be produced in America, while whiskey does not. It also cannot contain any additives, flavorings, or colors. The only thing in the bottle is pure bourbon!

Bourbon and Whisky - Best Bourbon Cocktails

Buy the Best Quality Bourbon You Can Afford

While some cocktails rely on syrups and flavors that can disguise (or at least mask) alcohol, these bourbon drinks are truly all about the bourbon itself.

That’s why I recommend spending a bit more to get a good quality bourbon. I took the liberty of trying several and have a clear favorite bourbon maker, Four Roses.

When you want the bourbon to be front and center, or if you plan on sipping it on the rocks, go with Four Roses Single Barrel. However, if you are mixing in several other flavors like citrus or spices (like in many of the bourbon drinks below) then I recommend their Small Batch variety.

Now, onto the good part: the bourbon drinks. Here you’ll find recipes ranging from twists on classics to new bold combinations.

Delicious Bourbon & Sage Cocktail Recipe #bourbon #sage #cocktail #recipe #lemon #sagesimplesyrup

1. Bourbon and Sage Cocktail

The diverse flavors in this cocktail make for a bold, new experience. This is one of my favorite easy bourbon cocktails thanks to the combination of lemon, bourbon, and a lovely sage-infused simple syrup.

Sweet + Spicy Bourbon Cocktail #strawberry #jalapeño #bourbon #gingerbeer #summer #cocktail #recipe #spicy

2. Sweet and Spicy Bourbon Cocktail

The spiciness of bourbon and warm ginger beer perfectly balances out with a refreshing sweetness and tang from lime juice. Muddle in jalapeno and strawberries to enhance this sweet yet spicy drink.

3. Maple Cranberry Bourbon Cocktail

Looking for easy bourbon cocktail recipes to make for the holidays? This one is a winner—not only does it look festive with floating cranberries and a sprig of rosemary as a garnish, but this drink warms you from head to toe.

In fact, this is one of my go-to holiday cocktails for my friends and family at Bayberry house this season.

Frozen Old Fashioned Slush Recipe #oldfashioned #slush #recipe #frozen #cocktail #bourbon

4. Frozen Old Fashioned Slush

This frozen cocktail is another that has a special place in my heart. It may seem counterintuitive, but my family always serves frozen cocktails (or “slushes” as we call them) during the holiday season.

For this slush, you’ll need bourbon, orange juice, cherry juice, bitters, lemon-lime soda water (yes, sodas like Sprite totally work), and a few other ingredients.

You’ll want to make this one 10-12 hours in advance so it has freezing time. But I promise the extra effort will be worth it.

5. Cranberry Bourbon Cocktail

Remember when I said I wasn’t always a bourbon fan? This is the drink that made me reconsider my position on this spirit.

To make this cranberry bourbon cocktail, you’ll need to whip up a rosemary sage simple syrup (it’s easier than it sounds, promise). Combine it with cranberry juice, bourbon, and a squeeze of fresh lemon juice, and this drink may have you changing your mind about bourbon drinks too!

Cider and Maple Old Fashioned Cocktail Recipe #applecider #maplesyrup #cider #bourbon #oldfashioned #cocktail #fallcocktail #recipe

6. Cider and Maple Old Fashioned

I took the classic old fashioned recipe and fancified it a bit with the addition of apple cider and pure maple syrup. This one tastes like fall in a glass to me.

A few sips and you’ll fall in love with this new old fashioned too.

7. Kentucky Mule

Ever heard of a Moscow mule? This is its southern cousin, the Kentucky mule.

2 oz of bourbon, a few squeezes of lime, and zesty ginger beer make for one of my all-time favorite easy bourbon cocktails. Pour a glass and see what I mean.

Naughty but Nice Christmas Cocktail #christmas #holiday #cocktail #easy #recipe #cranberry #drink #ChristmasCocktail

8. Naughty But Nice Cocktail

This Christmas cocktail has a refreshing and delicious taste that will make your mouth water. It’s made with orange juice, ginger syrup (gotta have some Christmas spice), and cranberry juice as well as club soda.

This drink is served over ice and garnished with orange slices and fresh cranberries. While this is a bourbon drink, you can even switch out booze if desired. Vodka and rye whiskey both work well in this cocktail.

Pumpkin Old Fashioned Fall Cocktail Recipe #pumpkin #oldfashioned #cocktail #fall #recipe

9. Pumpkin Old Fashioned

Here’s a fall-forward version of the typical old fashioned. Using maple syrup instead of simple syrup and black walnut bitters instead of dashes of angostura bitters makes this recipe really pop. And yes, I even added pure pumpkin puree into this recipe…does that mean we can call it a fruit juice?

Shaking the ingredients together before giving them a strain in a cocktail shaker is essential in this recipe to get a smooth velvety flavor. Don’t skip it! Simply giving the drink a stir won’t yield the same results.

Holiday cocktail recipe ideas - Cranberry Old Fashioned

10. Cranberry Old Fashioned

If you haven’t noticed a pattern yet, I love doing twists on classic cocktails here on IBC. This cranberry old fashioned is definitely one of the more simple bourbon drinks with just three ingredients: cranberry simple syrup, bourbon whiskey, and a few dashes Angostura bitters.

Then garnish with an orange peel, cranberries, and a sprig of rosemary for a pop of color.

If nothing else, this post is worth checking out to see a cranberry bog in the middle of NYC. Yup – you’ll just have to look and see what I mean.

11. Sweet Tea Mint Julep

We’re combining two Southern classics (sweet tea and mint juleps) to create these delicious and refreshing Sweet Tea Mint Juleps. If you’re looking for a refreshing cocktail where you can whip up an entire batch all at once, this may be the drink for you.

Learn how to make these homemade Bourbon Cherries. #bourbon #cherries #cocktail #garnish #recipe

11. Bourbon Cherries

Okay, technically this isn’t a cocktail. But, I use bourbon cherries as a garnish in many of my recipes (such as the pumpkin old fashioned cocktail above).

This bourbon cherry recipe is easy to follow and lasts for up to a year in the fridge. I like to make these in batches and gift them out to friends along with a bottle of my favorite bourbon.

That’s a Wrap on Easy Bourbon Cocktails!

There you have it – 11 easy bourbon cocktails that practically anyone will enjoy. Let me know in the comments which one you’ll be trying first, or if you have another bourbon drink to share. Cheers!

Cheesy Veggie Dip:

As you know, I have a veggie dip recipe here on Inspired by Charm which I love; it will always be my favorite. I’ve made it countless times and always get asked for the recipe.

Delicious Cheesy Veggie Dip #vegetable #veggiedip #dip #appetizer #snack #recipe #cheese

While I consistently turn to that recipe for my veggie dipping needs, I also love mixing things up and trying something new from time to time. That is why I’m sharing this new Cheesy Veggie Dip recipe.

If I had to pick a favorite food, it would be cheese. You may be asking, “What kind?” Well…… ALL OF THEM!!!

So naturally, if there’s a delicious way to slather cheese on vegetables, you can count me in. This Cheesy Veggie Dip is the answer.

To make this veggie dip recipe you will need:

  • sour cream
  • cream cheese
  • Havarti dill cheese
  • shredded Parmesan cheese
  • onion powder
  • garlic powder
  • salt
  • ground pepper

While all of these ingredients help to add to the deliciousness of this recipe, I think the rock-star ingredient is the Havarti dill cheese. Havarti is one of my favorite cheeses and the addition of the dill adds that flavor you come to know and love in a vegetable dip.

To serve this Cheesy Veggie Dip, I loaded a big cutting board with some of my favorite fresh veggies. I also wanted to add another treat to this veggie board so I included my Mini Pumpkin Cheese Balls. They are so delicious and beyond adorable.

I am preparing this recipe in the fall, hence the pumpkins, but you could easily make this any time of the year by not shaping the cheese balls into pumpkins. Just leave them as little balls of cheesy goodness! You can find that recipe HERE.

So, if you’re ready to mix things up and try a new way to dip your veggies, let me walk you through this recipe.

Do you love a good dip recipe? I sure do! (I have an entire post dedicated to dip recipes. You can find that HERE.)

Salted Caramel Popcorn Bars

Move over Rice Krispies treats, there’s a new snack in town! Let me introduce you to these Salted Caramel Popcorn Bars! I’m a fan of anything that contains salted caramel, so these bars were an instant winner for me.

Salted Caramel Popcorn Bars #saltedcaramel #popcorn #bars #recipe #snack #dessert #easy

I decided to make them after whipping up a batch of my Cinnamon Pecans and Walnuts. I folded the cinnamon nuts into the salted caramel and popcorn and it was a match made in heaven. If you’re not a fan of nuts, you can certainly leave them out, however, I love the texture and flavor that they add.

While I obviously recommend my homemade Cinnamon Nuts, any similar seasoned or sweet glazed nuts from the store will do the trick!

I think that these Salted Caramel Popcorn Bars make a delicious fall sweet treat, but you can certainly serve these any time of the year. I don’t think anyone will complain. Also, unlike a Rice Krispies treat, these have more of a soft, gooey texture versus a crispy, hard texture. You can clearly see this in the photo above where I’m pulling apart the bar. Look at all that goodness!

If those photos haven’t convinced you to try this recipe, I don’t know what will. Let’s whip up a batch!

  • Add the popcorn and cinnamon nuts to an extra-large bowl. Set aside. Grease a 9 x 13 baking pan with cooking spray or melted butter.
  • In a small saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. When the butter is melted, add in the caramels and water.
  • Cook while stirring with a silicone spatula until the caramels are completely melted. Add the marshmallows and continue to cook while constantly stirring. Cook until the marshmallows are completely melted and the mixture is smooth.
  • Quickly but carefully pour the caramel over your popcorn mixture. While stirring, sprinkle in the flake sea salt. Once evenly combined, or when stirring becomes difficult, press into your greased pan. (You can spray your hands with cooking spray to prevent the mixture from sticking to your hands while pressing.)
  • Let the salted caramel popcorn mixture set for 10-15 minutes or until completely cooled. Cut into bars and serve. Extras can be stored in an airtight container.

Notes

*For the caramels, you want the individual wrapped soft caramels like THESE from Kraft.
** I have a delicious homemade recipe for Cinnamon Pecans and Walnuts which you can find HERE. While I obviously recommend my homemade Cinnamon Nuts, similar seasoned or sweet glazed nuts from the store will do the trick!

These Mini Pumpkin Cheese Balls just might be the perfect appetizer for all of your fall and Halloween gatherings. Not only are they adorable, but they are quite delicious too!

Mini Pumpkin Cheese Balls

Friends, you know how much I love a cheese ball. It’s been way too long since I prepared one here on Inspired by Charm so I thought it was time for another. These Mini Pumpkin Cheese Balls just might be my latest favorite.

If you’re new here, know that I think cheese balls are not only delicious but a cute and clever appetizer idea for basically every occasion. Many years ago, my fascination with cheese balls started when I made these apple-shaped ones. From there, I’ve made one that looks like a Christmas tree, spider cheese balls, a dessert-flavored cheesed ball, and many more. You can find them all HERE.

Several years ago, I made a Pumpkin-Shaped Everything Bagel Cheese Ball that continues to be one of the most popular recipes here on Inspired by Charm.

This week I’m back with my Tastes of the Seasons blogger friends and our theme for the week is fall appetizers. I immediately knew what had to be done: Mini Pumpkin Cheese Balls.

Side note: Hanging out with my Tastes of the Seasons blogger friends this time of year is one of my favorite things. I’ve linked all of their delicious recipes below. Be sure to click through all of their blogs because they’ve made some delightful fall appetizer treats!

I couldn’t be more pleased with how these Mini Pumpkin Cheese Balls turned out. From flavor to presentation, they are a winner all around.

Looking for more fall appetizer recipes? Try these:

As you can see, instead of making just one style of cheeseball, I varied up the look by rolling them in different coatings. I used paprika for the rust-colored pumpkin, black sesame seeds for the black-colored pumpkin, and crushed Doritos for the orange-colored pumpkin. (Doritos create the perfect orange color and I love the flavor they add.) To create the grooves on these mini pumpkins, a wooden skewer works perfectly.

For the stem, I used half of a pretzel stick and a small leaf of parsley. I didn’t add the parsley leaf to every pumpkin because I wanted a little visual variety.

While these Mini Pumpkin Cheese Balls do take a little time to whip up, I think they are well worth the effort. If you wanted to skip the mini version, you could create one or two large cheese balls as I did here.

Also, I should mention that this post is overloaded with photos. (Yes, I know I’m always guilty of adding too many pictures to my blog posts — please forgive me). The extra number of photos occurred because I ended up taking pictures of the cheese balls in two different settings.

With the first setting I created this seasonal veggie board. I wanted to pair these Mini Pumpkin Cheese Balls with this delicious Cheesy Veggie Dip. The recipe for the veggie dip will be posted in the next day or two.

Looking for more tasty and cozy fall appetizer recipes? You got it! I have a blog post dedicated to my favorite fall snack and bites. You can find that HERE.

For the second setting, I wanted to do a presentation with a little Halloween twist. My friends over at My Mind’s Eye (my favorite paper goods and party decor company) sent me some of their new Halloween lines and I couldn’t wait to put them to use.

You’ll see in this styling that I used a few of their goodies including a Vintage Halloween Platter, Cauldron Plates, and Potion Bottle Napkins. They are so cute!

No matter how you present or serve these adorable little balls of cheese, I think you’re going to love them! With all of that being said, let me walk you through the recipe.

How to Make Mini Pumpkin Cheese Balls:

Add the cream cheese, shredded cheddar cheese, roasted red peppers, green onions, garlic powder, and cayenne pepper to a medium bowl. Mix together with a wooden spoon until evenly combined. Add salt and pepper to taste. I’ve provided a full ingredient list and step-by-step instructions in the printable recipe card below.

Cover and chill for about an hour.

Add your selected coatings to small plates. I’m using crushed Nacho Cheese Doritos, paprika, and black sesame seeds. You can use as many or as few coatings as you’d like. I used three to create a little interest in texture and color. If you’re selecting only one, I tend to think the Nacho Cheese Doritos is the best choice as it adds great flavor and the perfect pumpkin color. To crush the Doritos, add them to a plastic bag and smash them with a rolling pin until you achieve a fine crumb.

Use a tablespoon measuring scoop to get a portion of the cheese mixture. Roll into a ball and set on a plate. Continue until all of the cheese mixture is rolled into balls.

Roll each of the balls in one of your prepared coatings and set aside.

Use a wooden skewer to make marks up the side of each ball and across the top to achieve a pumpkin look. Place half of a pretzel stick into the top center of each mini cheese ball, then garnish with a small leaf of parsley. In order to create a little variety in the presentation, I didn’t put the parsley leaf on every pumpkin.

Refrigerate until you’re ready to serve and that’s it!

To be honest, I envisioned these turning out to be cute, but never this cute. I’m in love with them.

Also, the base recipe for this cheeseball is really delicious too. While it might seem rather simple, it’s a delicious combination of flavors that I think everyone will like.

Boo-tiful Halloween Mantel Decor

Yes my friends, we are taking a peek at some of my Halloween decorations today. I’m inviting you back into my family room to share my candlelit ghost-inspired Halloween Mantel Decor today.

And speaking of candlelit, I’m back with my Seasons of Home blogger friends. Last year we had fun sharing our cozy candlelight spaces (see mime HERE and HERE) so we decided to do it again this year. If you’re looking for more fall decor inspiration by way of candlelight, be sure to check out all the post I’ve linked below. Inspiration abounds!

If you saw my Fall Home Tour, then you got a little sneak peek at this Halloween mantel decor. However, I resisted the urge to light all the candles in that post, so I could save the fun and magic for now.

Halloween Mantel Decor

This Halloween mantel decor was inspired by my little collection of pottery ghost tea-light holders I’ve been collecting from Mollie Jenkins Pottery. She typically sells these ghosts on a special day in August and they sell out in minutes. I’ve purchased a couple every year for the past three to build up this collection.

I was trying to decided where to put them this year and I thought my family room mantel would be the perfect place.

Boo-tiful Halloween Mantel Decor #halloween #mantel #decor #decorating #spooky #chic #ghosts #candlesBoo-tiful Halloween Mantel Decor #halloween #mantel #decor #decorating #spooky #chic #ghosts #candlesBoo-tiful Halloween Mantel Decor #halloween #mantel #decor #decorating #spooky #chic #ghosts #candles

As a backdrop for the ghosts, I hung a framed chalkboard above the mantel. If you were here last year, you might remember I used this same chalkboard to recreate my Hocus Pocus Broom Co. drawing. This year I went a bit more simple and just used the word “boo”. It seemed fitting given the rest of the halloween mantel decor.

With my chalkboard and ghosts in place, I filled in with some candlesticks, some white pumpkins I got from Target last year, and some preserved fall leaves for a little splash of color.

And with that, my Boo-tiful Halloween Mantel was complete! The resulting look is both cute and a little spooky. It’s totally perfect for the season.

With all of the candles lit, I think it creates such a magical touch. There is something about a bunch of candles flickering that really lends itself to the season, don’t you think? I think it adds a little eeriness too!

The whole look is really simple but still looks fun, whimsical, and perfect for the season. I would have lit a fire in the fireplace to really complete the look, but it’s still a bit too warm here. (Come on cooler weather!!) Once I do, I’ll try and remember to share a picture over on Instagram at @inspiredbycharm.

And that’s a wrap on my Halloween mantel decor. If you want to see more of this space or have a look around the rest of my home decorated for fall, be sure to check out my full Fall Home Tour HERE.

As always, thank you for joining me!
