I can’t believe it. I finally got a light fixture in my upstairs hallway. Remember back in March when I showed you the exposed wires sticking out of my ceiling? Well, they are gone and finally there is a light.

I really have no good explanation for why it took months to complete this project. Part of the problem may have been what I found under the old canopy cover attached to the ceiling. This required patching, and I thought I would have to repaint the entire ceiling. Also, since my house is close to 100 years old, it used to have gas ceiling fixtures. Which, to be honest, is totally amazing, but it makes hanging a new fixture a nightmare. There is a capped off gas pipe sticking out of the ceiling where most of the light fixtures hang. That means everything needs to be retrofitted to fit properly and safely.

At any rate, the light fixture is hung and I’m totally loving it. It’s the Clarrisa Glass Drop Chandelier from Pottery Barn. I’ve loved this fixture since it first came out. A few weeks ago my BFF hung a similar one in her house and that sealed the deal for me. Plus, I had a gift card, some store credit, and a coupon – so it was quite the steal. I’m actually a huge fan of Pottery Barn’s lighting. I have five fixtures from them. Crazy.

I thought this would be a good time to also show you some other changes around this area. Other than getting new carpet in December, I haven’t really done much in this space since closing my B & B. I figured it was time to make it feel a bit more like my home. So I pulled some random accessories from around my house to give it a little something-something.

First, I found this amazing set of letters on Etsy a couple months ago. Yes, that’s A,N and E. Hung on it’s side it just looks like a fun squiggle or symbol. If you remember, there used to be a giant mirror on this wall. It was there to block a door into this bathroom. I always hated having the mirror there, but it was essential to block off the space when my house was functioning as an inn. Blocking the door kept the bathroom private and secure for those in the room. This was actually the only bathroom in the house when it was first built. As you may or may not be able to tell, it needs a major update.
The room to the left of the bathroom is currently being used as a (very cluttered) storage space. (That’s where my cowhide chairs have been hiding out.) Before I decided to close my shoppe, the room was going to be my office. Now I have plans for turning it into a spare bedroom.

Last week I showed you the temporary office portion of my bedroom; this is the actual bedroom. Not much has changed in here. I did find this art at a local antique shop. I’m not sure I love it here, but it works for now. Also, I just noticed that one of the frames is a tiny bit smaller than the other. So that will surely drive me crazy. I think the ikat pillows are also new. I found them at HomeGoods. The pattern is gorgeous, and I figure they are neutral enough to work anywhere.

My wonderful mom bought me these amazing gold sculptural spheres from West Elm for my birthday. I freaking love them!

I also got this mini-frog (at least that’s what the folks at Buick called it). It was a gift from the designers I worked with when I created my dream Encore. This was actually the color I choose for my winning design. Isn’t it beautiful?

That’s it, folks. My new light and a couple other small updates. I still have lots of plans and ideas so it feels good to be making some baby steps. What spaces are you working on in your home?

Man!..& this is an old post, so there’s no hope for me finding that fabric! Haha! Thanks for the info! Love your blog & the daily emails! You’re the best!
Hi Michael!
Where where where did you get that wonderful shamrock bedskirt?
Hey Katie! It was actually a DIY. I found the fabric on clearance at Wal-Mart! Can you believe that!? Haha.

I just came across your blog. Love your home and style! I have this chandelier in my bathroom. Looks great where you have it, too!
Love the light fixture where did you purchase? Thank you for sharing
It’s from Pottery Barn.

I love the light fixture, but to be honest it’s the carpet that caught my eye. I am not a big fan of carpet but that one looks almost organic. Could you give some info on brand, style, color, etc.
Your home is amazing! Such a nice flow of colors, textures, and patterns:)
You are so sweet Sara! Thank you! Ditto to you!

Gorgeous fixture, but I’m really interested in the wall color! Would you have the color and brand for sharing?
I’m so incredibly jealous of this light….Loved it when I saw the picture in Pottery Barn catalog and love it hanging in your hallway, too. You are making some great transformations in that house of yours. So sad I won’t be able visit your shop anymore, though!
Awww. I’m sorry too! Thanks so much for the light love! It’s really fantastic!

I am soooo in love with that light fixture!! Gorgeous! I think I would like the pictures better if the slightly smaller one was on top, but that’s just me. Thanks for sharing your pics, your place is charming!
I appreciate it Laurel! Thank you!!

I’m reading this at a cafe and the waitress just stopped to comment on how gorgeous the light fixture is. She thought it was an antique, as did I at first. Lovely! And it fits so nicely into your home.
Hahaha. That’s so awesome. Thanks for the light-fixture-love! And to the waitress too!

I soooo love the light fixture and it looks lovely in that space. I really, really love the script letters hanging vertically. That is absolutely ingenious!!! It is something I never would have thought of. The whole space is absolutely charming, even the frames that aren’t the same size…LOLOL!!! Thanks for sharing and giving out some great ideas. 🙂
Hahaha. Thank you so much Marybeth. It’s coming together. Slowly, but surely!

I loved the light fixture as soon as I saw it on Instagram, Michael. It looks fantastic. And thanks for the sweet tour of your home. Gosh, you have such a great eye for design. Awesome!
How sweet Deb! Thank you so much. I’m loving the chandelier too! It’s amazing how only little thing can make a space come to life!

Thanks so much! It’s a really great piece!

LOVE the new light fixture (as well as all the others you have shown so far!) I am working on getting my bedroom to be the kind of room it is meant to be; bringing in accent colors I like with what is already there; bringing stuff in from other areas of the house…just figuring it all out.
I totally understand. Decorating for me is a never ending process – and I like it that way! I’m always moving things around.

OOH, such a gorgeous light! And I love seeing all the other peeks into your gorgeous home too!
Thank you! Hopefully I can get more of these spaces complete and show some more peeks into my house.

Beautiful! I love, love the light fixture!! And all the small details come together so nicely, it’s very welcoming 🙂 My husband and I just bought our first house, which is more than 75 years old – so needless to say we have projects galore! But right now we’re working on refinishing the original hardwood floors, which had been covered up by carpet. Can’t wait to see them shine again!
Oh I hear you. Older homes come with tons of projects. And what a great idea to restore the floors! I bet the are going to look gorgeous!

Love, Love, Love the new light!
p.s. Again, bring back the cowhide chairs 😉
Thanks Lisa! Haha. I don’t think the cowhide chairs will be making a return to the dining room, but I’m hoping to figure out a way to use them in another space.
