a new fall wreath

the past two days have been beautiful here. the perfect fall weather. mid 60s, cool nights and mornings, and the sun shinning with no clouds in sight! it’s giving me a chance to finish up some much needed plant removing, weeding and general yard work.

with all the summer flowers slowly dying i decided to add a fresh bouquet to my front door. a new fall wreath.

i have been putting together wreaths since high school. yep, you read that right, high school. i’m no expert wreath maker, but i do an okay job and i’m pretty pleased with the results. and i actually really enjoy the process.

i just start with a plain grapevine wreath and work around with flowers and greenery… or in this case yellowery. i just force the stems into the grapevine. no hot glue or wire required. this way, at the end of the season, i can take everything out of the wreath and start fresh! pretty simple, right?

and did you notice the crow at the top? he’s my favorite part,  kind of cute and unexpected.

and that’s it! a new fall wreath.

have you ever made a wreath? what’s hanging on your front door for the fall?

Just beautiful, Michael! I like the use of purple–not a color one usually sees in autumnal decorations but it works really well. Your trick of just sticking the stems in is one I finally figured out last year. Makes it fun and super-easy to change out the look of my front door wreath without every having to take it down.

Very nice! Yes, I’ve made a few before but currently nothing is hanging on our front door– still unpacking this new house. PS the waffles look wonderful, bet they were good.
