As most of you already know, in January of this year I closed my little inn and took over the entire house. Let me tell you, this has been a huge blessing. I’m loving it. During the past few months, I’ve been slowly making changes to take the house from little inn to my home. You’d think this would be a pretty simple process, but I’ve been really dragging my feet for some reason. Honestly, I think I’m suffering from a case of “I have so much I want to do, that I don’t know where to start, so I’ve barely started at all.” Does that make sense? I’m a little overwhelmed.

Lately, living in a space that is in a state of transition is starting to drive me bananas. So, I’m now putting together a Master To-Do list. If you follow Young House Love, you know that they do something like this, and it seems to be really effective. Hopefully, such a list will provide a starting point for me to get some projects started. Then along the way, I get to share them all with you.

One of the spaces that’s pretty high on my list is my bedroom. I’m not sure if I ever really mentioned this, but what used to be the Garden Suite in my old inn is nowmy bedroom. A few years ago this room got a mini-makeover including paint, curtains, a fun peg rail, and lots more. As much as I love it, I want to inject a few modern elements to make the space look and feel a little more like me. I don’t like to refer to a room as being masculine or feminine (Guys can like flowers and pink, too,), but this space needs less aprons and florals for my taste.

Anyway, I was at Target the other day and picked up a few gold accessories and some frames in hopes of finding some inspiration to get my bedroom changed around.

Gold and I have become BFFs lately, so I was instantly enamoured with this set of lanterns. I seriously want a set for almost every room in my house, but that’s obviously going a little overboard. I also had to have a couple brass animals. I ended up getting the rhino and the elephant. Love them!

Another one of my favorite elements from the Threshold collection is their pillows. Remember the ones I got for my kitchen? Not only are they gorgeous, but the price is perfect. I brought home two of these yellow striped pillows for less than $20 each.

I also want to start incorporating more artwork and photos into my home. Nothing makes a space more personal. So I picked up two frames. The selection of frames was amazing, but I was especially thrilled to find these distressed natural wood frames. Introducing a little natural wood element into a space adds a bit of texture and creates a really homey feel. (And yes, I realize these frames having nothing in them. Oops!)

So, while I have a long way to go (stay tuned for my Master To-Do List), I’m making a little progress and feeling inspired. While I love the Internet, it’s still so very important to get out of the house and find some unique and original inspiration. Don’t you agree?

Have you had a chance to shop the Threshold collection at Target? What pieces are your favorites?

Details for other items in this space: curtains, shaker peg rail, red leather chairs (similar)
Thrifted: cream dresser, turquoise metal table, aprons

A big thanks to the awesome folks at Target for supplying me with these beautiful Threshold products at no cost in exchange for my review. Please note that the opinions, thoughts and ideas listed above are my own. I really do love and recommend these products.

You are seriously so talented, Target should hire you to style their stores. When I saw these products at the store they didn’t even catch my eye, now I want to go back and buy them!

What a beautiful room this is! I especially love the little table that gave your gold elephant and lantern a new home!

I know! It’s one of my favorite pieces. I found it at a flea market in Philadelphia years ago.

I love the changes! I am obsessed with those gold lanterns too 🙂 What’s really crazy is that I bought the same wood frames from the Threshold collection. Mine are hanging on the wall with no pics as well!

Kari – Great minds!! Haha. I’m glad I’m not the only one. 🙂

I love the curtains….even though I know you didn’t mention them in this post! Where did you get them?

    • Michael Wurm, Jr. at

Thanks Cindi! I made them. There is a link in the post detailing how I did it. Just click on the teal words that say ‘curtains’. Thanks again.

We are about 7 months away til the Target opens near us. They have just recently ventured in to the Canadian market and I am so hopping they will be carrying their Threshold line! You are one talented fella!

Michael, I love your room and the great mix of colors. Red and yellow are two of my favorites. I think it’s so true that when there is so much to do and it feels overwhleming it’s hard to get started. I am about one trinket away from the next episode of, “Hoarders,” (I am going to blame it on my Etsy shop) and it’s just so hard to dive into organizing it all!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE those lanterns, I pick up and caress them every time I go to Target.

A good list is essential when you are making big changes-it makes it look so easy on a piece of paper/in a word.doc, LOL

I like the gold accents with the red in the curtains. A nice start…oh and if you need some art, check out my son;s ETSY shop-he just finished a new elephant/gold leaf painting, not sure if it’s up yet-but it would look great in your room!

I really like what you’ve done! The gold lanterns are a nice touch. Target has some really great things for the home!

Michael, you are a genius!! I will definitely continue to follow you on Pinterest as well–you have sooooo many great decorating ideas. I am about to go empty nest soon and am looking to re-invent my house! Your cheese party for two is a great idea that I can use once hubby and I are alone in the house. Keep up the great ideas (I know you will!).

Awww! How sweet are you? I’m not sure I’d say genius, but I appreciate your kind words. Thank you! I’ll do my best to keep sharing as much as I can. Keep following along.

As I used to say when I was 16, “OH. MOY. GAWD!!!” I am loving all things red and turquoise in decorating. Ah, be still my heart. Oh, and that little pop of yellow in the pillow. It made my skirt fly up. In my head, we’re neighbors and friends and we drink various sangria’s (that we found on Pinterest) and we sit on my front porch every Friday night and talk about my neighbor, Crazy McCrazy, across the street who sings to herself as she blasts her 80’s boombox that plays nothing but static.

    • Michael Wurm, Jr. at

Hahaha! You rock. Love this. Yes – this sounds like the perfect Friday night!

Michael, this is my first time here, jumped over from YHL after Sherri referenced your terrarium project. Your designs — be still my heart! Will be visiting a lot! Love the crispness yet comfortableness. In this room the mix of colors, the curtains, and especially that table, just make me happy. Thanks!

    • Michael Wurm, Jr. at

Awww! Thanks a million Paula! I was so honored and tickled to see my name and blog on YHL! 🙂 Happy to have you following along.
